But when i want to change the attribute, I'm using this syntax: $($("input[id$='cbAddToNews']")[0]).show() Is there any way to do this without wrapping it with $(...[0]) ?

  • Accidentally Uninstalled Ubuntu Desktop and Anacron. Reinstalled. What Can I Expect?

    Unfortunately when I installed the cron package to take a look at it, I didn't realize that I was also uninstalling Ubuntu Desktop and Anacron. Crap!!! So, I then did apt-get install anacron ubuntu-desktop, which also removed fcron. However, I need to know what instability issues I may now encounter because I have done this change and changed it back. I mean, now that anacron is back and ubuntu-desktop is back, am I out of the woods? Or, will I lose any important jobs that need to run periodically from anacron?

  • Snow Leopard doesn't repair permissions, despite showing / saying its fixed them?

    Sometime ago, I used carbon copy as I was replacing my hard drive in my Mac Mini running Snow Leopard. Afterwards, on my new drive I had some permission problems.   • Why did Google remove the search box in developer tool from Chrome 22 stable release?

    In previous version of Chrome, there's the search box in developer tool, on the right top when I open it, just as shown below. (Sorry I can't upload image cuz' I don't have enough reputation for now.) http://i.minus.com/iklSx2vi0uzFB.JPG But, after I upgraded to the first release of Chrome 22 yesterday, that search box was gone, as shown below. http://i.minus.com/ibxXt9wnBekR7E.JPG It is such a useful search box that I rely on all the time, to search for something, or to validate an xpath. So does Google just 'hide' it somewhere else? Or do they really remove it? Anyone know why they made such changes?

    I'm running Kubuntu 10.04 x64 on a Lenovo ThinkPad R500, with an external monitor attached. If I configure extended desktop, everything works fine. The settings look like this: After a reboot, these settings are reset and both screens are mirrored. The settings look like this: I had my extended desktop working just fine under Ubuntu/GNOME, so I'm assuming there's something different about how KDE handles this config, I just can't seem to find the answer. Anyone know how to get my configuration to stick?

Edit: On Win8 Aero was removed but the taskbar is transparent (the desktop background picture is slightly visible 'behind' the taskbar). When I'm using the taskbar to switch programs I don't like seeing artifacts 'bleeding-through', I find it distracting.

    Thunderbird is a good rss reader in terms of being able to connect successfully to jira authenticated search feeds (where evolution-rss and Liferea can't), but really sucks when it comes to updating. A Jira search feed will give a link id to http://jira/browse/[ticket no], and if that ticket/feed-item is updated, thunderbird refuses to update it - it already has it! (even though the item date does not match). Also, if you delete the ticket update, it will never show up again for that news account. Has anybody found an RSS reader that can work with JIRA/updating RSS items? Note: this is not the same as Jira activity feeds - those work great, as each update has a unique item id To replicate: Grab a search (any search) Get it into your rss reader Read an item, modify the linked ticket Update rss and see if the ticket bumps to most recent and unread or, generically: Get an rss feed (from your hard drive?)     The search bar in Windows 7 is very convenient to quickly start applications by pressing the Win-key and then entering the name of the application. For applications with a Program Menu entry like Firefox, it is sufficient to type Fire and Firefox will be displayed in the Programs section of the search results. For other applications like regedit.exe, I have to type the full command regedit before the correct choice regedit.exe appears. Is there any way to have regedit.exe appear already when I have just entered a substring? Please note: I have seen Add my applications to Vista’s Start Search, but I don't want to add anything to the Start Menu manually. This question is about if there is some configuration that can be tuned to make the results appear. I have also seen Search behavior of Windows 7 start menu, but my problem is not that the exe appears under Files, regedit.exe correctly appears under Programs, but it should appear already for a substring match.

    We have a Small Business Server 2003 domain controller with Windows 7 workstations joined to the domain. I noticed recently that, if I make a user a local administrator on his computer, his redirected desktop and mapped network drives do not connect at login (error on login that network drives inaccessible and desktop is blank). However, it is still possible for this user to browse to his home directory where his redirected folders are located- so he still has access to that location. Does anyone have any theories as to what is going on here?

Laptop 1 was bought with Windows 8 and has now been upgraded. Laptop 2 is new and came with Windows 8.1. We've been trying to set up a HomeGroup such that we have one user on laptop 1, one on laptop 2 and both can log into the desktop, with each user able to edit their files on their laptop and desktop, while the other user has read-only access. And we now have that situation ... except ... because the user on laptop 1 was created in Windows 8 but the same user on the desktop was created in 8.1, they have different names in Windows Explorer (say, firstuser and first_000). Likewise, the other use was created on laptop 2 in Windows 8.1 and on the desktop in Windows 7 (so let's say secon_000 and seconduser). This is ultimately confusing. Now if we expand the HomeGroup, we get four users (firstuser, first_000, seconduser and secon_000) and each has a single computer inside it. What I'd like to see is firstuser = laptop1, desktop and seconduser = laptop2, desktop. An acceptable alternative is first_000 = laptop1, desktop and secon_000 = laptop2, desktop. But what I don't want to have to do is delete firstuser and seconduser and rebuild them. Is there a better way?

    Is there a way to have VIM do incremental search on text files? Vim already does incremental search within the currently open file. Examples of programs that demonstrate the type of search I'm trying to accomplish are Notational Velocity for MacOS, Resop for windows or SimpleNote for the web. These apps do an instant or incremental search in the files of a specific directory and make it easy/fast to narrow down the file you are looking for or create a new file. I use both but would rather live in one editor.(that being VIM) Is there some plug in that would do this?

  • small Windows network w/ printer issue

    printer 1 connected to the desktop printer 2 connected to the same desktop that desktop is connected via Cat 5 to a wireless router a notebook is connected to that same router via WiFi The desktop Control Panel has just been reconfigured to share printers. (I assume this means that the desktop will now allow a notebook coming through the router to be able to access the two printers that are presently hooked up via the desktop--am I correct? Is that what it means?) The desktop can still print to either printer. It is presently okay. This notebook/printer relationship is a new configuration. The notebook, however, can't print at all (yet it can access the internet just fine). Any suggestions for it to be able to access the printers and be able to print via the desktop via the router? Thank you for any assistance.

    The search bar in Windows 7 is very convenient to quickly start applications by pressing the Win-key and then entering the name of the application. For applications with a Program Menu entry like Firefox, it is sufficient to type Fire and Firefox will be displayed in the Programs section of the search results. For other applications like regedit.exe, I have to type the full command regedit before the correct choice regedit.exe appears. Is there any way to have regedit.exe appear already when I have just entered a substring? Please note: I have seen Add my applications to Vista’s Start Search, but I don't want to add anything to the Start Menu manually. This question is about if there is some configuration that can be tuned to make the results appear. I have also seen Search behavior of Windows 7 start menu, but my problem is not that the exe appears under Files, regedit.exe correctly appears under Programs, but it should appear already for a substring match.

    I've tried to run the following commands but neither work and I'm not sure how I should setup the query. I tried to find a full list of available search strings but couldn't locate one online or using help. I did find the list here (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb232132.aspx#AQS) but it doesn't include the search queries I am looking for (based on the fact that it doesn't even list "Received:" which I know is an option because I use it all the time.
