• How does assembly language interact with something like the Internet?

  So I was thinking about languages the other day, and it struck me that any program written in a compiled language that interacts with the Internet is then translated into assembly that has to interact with the Internet. I've just begun learning a bit of x86 assembly to help me understand C++ a bit better, and I'm baffled by how something so low-level could do something like access the Internet. I'm sure the full answer to this question is much more than would fit in a SO answer, but could somebody give me maybe a basic summary?

• What happened to programming-books.com?

  A couple years ago I found a great site called something like 'programming-books.com' (but not exactly that). It let users submit links to their favorite books for various programming languages, and write a short blurb about why they're so good. You could include their Amazon page and the website would grab a cover picture. I've since lost that bookmark and am trying to find it again, anyone know what site I'm talking about?   I have a "small" enterprise application, aspnet mvc 3 + entity framework with POCO entity and repository pattern. I structured the solution in 4 projects: POCO entities Domain model Services web application When the application performs a query on the database, use one of the services provided, the service uses the repository and the small classes, as a result I have some dynamic proxy objects that I would like to convert in my domain entities, before using them in mvc views, but I do not know how. Dovrebber be set as the translator? This approach is reasonable?

  This seems to work (compiler doesn't complain, anyway): float adsr[4] = {0,1.0/PULSE_SPEED, 0,1}; [sequence setBaseADSR:adsr]; but I want to make it more concise and do this: [sequence setBaseADSR:{0,1.0/PULSE_SPEED, 0,1}]; How do I do it? In javascript, I'd call stuff in the brackets an "array literal". Not sure if C languages have the same concept or terminology though.

  Is it possible with Firebug to stop a javascript with a press of a button or a keyboard shortcut instead of stopping it by setting a breakpoint? Why would I like to do this? We have a very dynamic website with lots of animations. It would be a great help if I could just stop the scripts at the moment the animation is doing something I want to inspect. That would be a lot faster than fiddling with the breakpoints.

  When I try it I get: ImportError: dlopen(/Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.5/lib/python2.5/site-packages/cscalelib.so, 2): Symbol not found: _glBindFramebufferEXT Referenced from: /Library/Frameworks/Python.framework/Versions/2.5/lib/python2.5/site-packages/cscalelib.so Expected in: dynamic lookup I've tried all sort of things in the setup.py file. What do I actually need to put in it to link to OpenGL properly? My code compiles fine so there's no point putting that on there.
