  I want to use a method as a parameter of another method of the same class. I have a class and objects which are companions: class mM(var elem:Matrix){ //apply a function on a dimension rows (1) or cols (2) def app(func:Iterable[Double]=>Double)(dim : Int) : Matrix = { ... } //utility function def logsumexp(): Double = {...} } object mM{ def apply(elem:Matrix):mM={new mM(elem)} def logsumexp(elem:Iterable[Double]): Double ={ this.apply(elem.asInstanceOf[Matrix]).logsumexp() } } Normally I use logsumexp like this mM(matrix).logsumexp but if want to apply it to the rows I can't use mM(matrix).app(mM.logsumexp)(1), I get the error: error: reference to mM is ambiguous; it is imported twice in the same scope by import mM and import mM What is the most elegant solution ? • How to determine on which file system a file was created in Java

  Hi Everyone! I get files in different formats coming from different systems that I need to import into our database. Part of the import process it to check the line length to make sure the format is correct. We seem to be having issues with files coming from UNIX systems where one character is added. I suspect this is due to the return carriage being encoded differently on UNIX and windows platform. Is there a way to detect on which file system a file was created, other than checking the last character on the line? Or maybe a way of reading the files as text and not binary which I suspect is the issue? Thanks Guys !

  Eclipse's default template for new types (Window Preferences Code Style Code Templates New Java Files) looks like this: ${filecomment} ${package_declaration} ${typecomment} ${type_declaration} Creating a new class, it'll look something like this: package pkg; import blah.blah; public class FileName { // Class is accessible to everyone, and can be inherited } Now, I'm fervent in my belief that access should be as restricted as possible, and inheritance should be forbidden unless explicitly permitted, so I'd like to change the ${type_declaration} to declare all classes as final rather than public: package pkg; import blah.blah; final class FileName { // Class is only accessible in package, and can't be inherited } That seems easier said than done. The only thing I've found googling is a 2004 question on Eclipse's mailing list which was unanswered. So, the question in short: How can I change the default class/type modifiers in Eclipse? I'm using Eclipse Galileo (3.5) if that matters.

• IPhone iOs 5, need help getting my tab bar at the top to work

  I wanted to have the tab bar at the top. So i created a new project in XCode. Added a view and then inside that view i added (scrollbar, text and another view). See picture. What i wanted was to have my tab bar at the top. Then in the middle would be the contents from the tab bar and below it a small copyright text. See picture. No idea how to make this correctly. I have tried to create the UITabBarController on the fly and then assign it into the view at the top. (Top white space on the picture dedicated for the tab bar). Here is my code to init the MainWindow. • sys.path() and PYTHONPATH issues

  I've been learning Python, I'm working in 2.7.3, and I'm trying to understand import statements. The documentation says that when you attempt to import a module, the interpreter will first search for one of the built-in modules. What is meant by a built-in module? Then, the documentation says that the interpreter searches in the directories listed by sys.path, and that sys.path is initialized from these sources: the directory containing the input script (or the current directory). PYTHONPATH (a list of directory names, with the same syntax as the shell variable PATH). the installation-dependent default. Here is a sample output of a sys.path command from my computer using python in command-line mode: (I deleted a few so that it wouldn't be huge) ['', '/usr/lib/python2.7', '/usr/lib/python2.7/lib-old', '/usr/lib/python2.7/lib-dynload', '/usr/local/lib/python2.7/dist-packages', '/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages', '/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/PIL', '/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gst-0.10', '/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gtk-2.0', '/usr/lib/pymodules/python2.7', '/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/ubuntuone-couch', '/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/ubuntuone-storage-protocol'] Now, I'm assuming that the '' path refers to the directory containing the 'script', and so I figured the rest of them would be coming from my PYTHONPATH environmental variable. Do I really not have a PYTHONPATH environmental variable? I don't believe I ever specifically defined a PYTHONPATH environmental variable, but I assumed that when I installed new packages they automatically altered that environment variable. If I don't have a PYTHONPATH, how is my sys.path getting populated? If I download new packages, how does Python know where to look for them if I don't have this PYTHONPATH variable? How do environment variables work? From what I understand, environment variables are specific to the process for which they are set, however, if I open multiple terminal windows and run env, they all display a number of identical variables, for example, PATH. I know there file locations for persistent environment variables, for example /etc/environment, which contains my PATH variable. Is it possible to tell where a persistent environment variable is stored? What is the recommended location for storing new persistent environment variables? How do environment variables actually work with say, the Python interpreter? The Python interpreter looks for PYTHONPATH, but how does it work at the nitty-gritty level?

• Rails: Creating subfolders in model?

  I'm going to have a ton of subclasses, so want to organize them under a subfolder called stream. I added the following line to the environment.rb so that all classes in the subfolder would be loaded: Rails::Initializer.run do |config| ... config.load_paths += Dir["#{RAILS_ROOT}/app/models/*"].find_all { |f| File.stat(f).directory? } ... end I thought this would solve the issue in which by convention the model class is namespaced into an according module. However, when I try to call one of the classes called stream in the stream folder, I get the following error: NoMethodError: undefined method `new' for Stream:Module from (irb):28 from /usr/local/bin/irb:12:in `<main>' Here's the model for the parent and one child: class Stream end class EventStream < Stream end Any idea what the issue is?

• Eclipse - Ouline View - Turn Off Filtering

  Hi. I recently installed Eclipse on my new computer, and this installation somewhat filters the class members. I think it is somehow related to the Outline, but i couldn't find any settings related to it. The thing is that when i, for example, have an error in a method, and click on the little red square on the margin, eclipse shows me only that method, and nothing else. When i then click on the class name in the outline panel, eclipse shows me the class without import declarations. I can, of course, click on the import declarations in the outline panel, but then i get only them. When I want to jump to the declaration of some method by command-clicking that method's name, I again get only that method on the screen. It is really annoying. Can anyone please help me fix it?   I have this xml document that is provided as a data feed (right off the bat I can not modify the source of the data feed) and i import it into excel with the xml import. there is no schema that comes with this xml so i get a table that ends up having a whole bunch of duplicates for an identifier, because of the unique values spread throughout the spreadsheet. XML in XLS Col1(IDnum) Col2(name) Col3(Type) Col4(Category) Col(etc) ================================================================= 0011 Item 01 6B 0011 Item xxj9 7B 0011 Item xxj9 0011 Item 02 0011 Item 01 xxj9 6B 0012 etc I need to delete all rows where columnA string/number matches while concatenating all potential values from Col3, Col4 & Col5 together so it looks like this Col1(IDnum) Col2(name) Col3(Type) Col4(Category) Col(etc) ================================================================= 0011 Item 01, 02 xxj9 6B, 7B what visual basic method would allow me to accomplish this? thanks

• OpenERP model tracking external resource, hooking into parent's copy() or copy_data()

  I have added a new model (call it crm_lead_external) that is linked via a new one2many on crm_lead. Thus, my module has two models defined: an updated crm_lead (with _name=crm_lead) and a new crm_lead_external. This external model tracks a file and as such has a 'filename' field. I also created a unique SQL index on this filename field. This is part of my module: def copy(self, cr, uid, id, default=None, context=None): if not default: default = {} default.update({ 'state': 'new', 'filename': '', }) ret = super(crm_lead_external, self).copy(cr, uid, id, default, context=context) #do file copy return ret The intent here is to allow an external entity to be duplicated, but to retarget the file path. Now, if I click duplicate on the Lead, I get an IntegrityError on my unique constraint. Is there a particular reason why copy() isn't being called? Should I add this logic to copy_data()? Myst I really override copy() for the lead? Thanks in advance.

  I'm creating an admin module for my client that gives then access to some administration functionality concerning their content. I'm starting off my adding some permissions in my module by implementing hook_perm: function mymodule_perm() { return array( 'manage projects', ); } I can then create my menu by adding to the admin section that already exists: function mymodule_menu() { $items['admin/projects'] = array( 'title' => 'Projects', 'description' => 'Manage your projects.', 'page callback' => 'manage_projects_overview', 'access callback' => 'user_access', 'access arguments' => array('manage projects'), 'type' => MENU_NORMAL_ITEM, 'weight' => -100, ); $items['admin/projects/add'] = array( 'title' => 'Add project', 'access arguments' => array('manage projects'), 'page callback' => 'mymodule_projects_add', 'type' => MENU_NORMAL_ITEM, 'weight' => 1, ); return $items; } This will add a Projects section to the Administration area with an Add project sub section. All good. The behavior I want is that my client can only see the Projects section when they log in. I've accomplished this by ticking the "manage projects" permission for authenticated users. Now to give my client actual access to the Administration area I also need to tick "access administration pages" under the "system module" in the users permissions section. This works great, when I log in as my client I can only see the Projects section in the Administration area. There is one thing though, I my Navigation menu shown in the left column I can see the following items: - Administer - Projects - Content management - Site building - Site configuration - User management I was expecting only the see Administer and Projects, not the other ones. When I click e.g. Content Management I get a Content Management titled page with no options. Same for Site Building, Site Configuration and User Management. What's really odd is that Reports is not being shown which is also a top level Administration section. Why are these other items, besides my Projects section, being shown and how can I make them stop from appearing if I'm not logged in as administrator?

  In Access 2007 I have created a form with a textbox and a button. At the moment, when I press the button, I load a query with the textbox data passed as a parameter to the query criteria. I would like to change this so that all (manually input) options appear in a combobox (in place of the textbox). I would then like to pass the combobox text to a VBA module upon pressing the button. How do I do this? Similarly, I hope to output a different string from this module, and I hope to use this as the query criteria. How do I do this?

• How to have CVS files in different directory than source files in NetBeans?

  I have a project in NetBeans which haven't used CVS until now. Let's say the directory with source files is called /www/source_files and directory with project files /www/project_files. Module in repository is called differently than source files directory. When I'm trying to check out CVS, it forces me to create a directory called exactly how module is called, which is fine by me in fact. Straight after it asks me if I wanted to create new project. And here the problem begins. I don't want to do that and I have no idea how to link newly created directory with CVS and checked out files with my project. I'd like to end up with following structure: /www /source_files /project_files /cvs_files Any ideas how to do this? I'm using NetBeans 6.8.

  I am trying to access a file I have contained in the jar. Does anybody know what I'm doing wrong? Help would be appreciated.

  Okay, I used selenium to test some automation, which I got to work. I did an export of the script for python. When I tried to run the python script it generated, it gave me a "SyntaxError: invalid syntax" error message.   Hi all, I keep all modules of our system in one dir (e.g. All\ModuleA; All\ModuleB). I want to see what types of files are most numerous and take up the most space, by module. So, I'd like output along the lines of: ModName,java-count,java-size,xml-count,xml-size,png-count,png-size... ModuleA,30,0.2,100,2.3,0,0,... ModuleB,21,0.1,20,0.7,1,1.2 Not all modules have files of all types, so this will only work if I list all types for all module (with lots of zeros). I have something that almost works, but it's hideous, verbose and inefficient. I'm sure someone can help me see the light :-) (which, by the way, can be a piece of freeware software that does this out of the box; I only chose to do this in powershell out of interest). thanks

  Hey, So I'm dealing with a csv file that has missing values. What I want my script to is: #!/usr/bin/python import csv import sys #1. Place each record of a file in a list. #2. Iterate thru each element of the list and get its length. #3. If the length is less than one replace with value x. reader = csv.reader(open(sys.argv[1], "rb")) for row in reader: for x in row[:]: if len(x)< 1: x = 0 print x print row Here is an example of data, I trying it on, ideally it should work on any column lenghth Before: actnum,col2,col4 xxxxx , , xxxxx , 845 , xxxxx , ,545 After actnum,col2,col4 xxxxx , 0 , 0 xxxxx , 845, 0 xxxxx , 0 ,545 Any guidance would be appreciated
