Getting a query to index seek (rather than scan)

Running the following query (SQL Server 2000) the execution plan shows that it used an index seek and Profiler shows it's doing 71 reads with a duration of 0. select top 1 id from table where name = '0010000546163' order by id desc Contrast that with the following with uses an index scan with 8500 reads and a duration of about a second. declare @p varchar(20) select @p = '0010000546163' select top 1 id from table where name = @p order by id desc Why is the execution plan different? Is there a way to change the second method to seek? thanks EDIT Table looks like CREATE TABLE [table] ( [Id] [int] IDENTITY (1, 1) NOT NULL , [Name] [varchar] (13) COLLATE Latin1_General_CI_AS NOT NULL) Id is primary clustered key There is a non-unique index on Name and a unique composite index on id/name There are other columns - left them out for brevity

Is there an easy way to make Struts 2 action names case insensitive? Currently I have the following action defined: <action name="printTest" class="MyClass" > <result name="error">/WEB-INF/jsp/error.jsp</result> <result name="input">/WEB-INF/jsp/test.jsp</result> <result name="success">/WEB-INF/jsp/test.jsp</result> </action> If the user types URL "/app/printtest.do" instead of "/app/printtest.do" this action is not executed. Other then mod_rewrite on the httpd level or something like that, the only option that I know about right now is simply adding the same exact action and changing the name to "printtest". Ideally it would be a simple config change to struts.xml

When I go to Functional Import of a Stored Procedure name and it ask me to type in the Complex name, is that supposed to be the name of of a class that can handle that output. I have this query which displays some properties and count the number of references to it from an other table: SELECT p.id,p.propName ( SELECT COUNT(*) FROM propLoc WHERE propLoc.propID = p.id ) AS number FROM property as p WHERE p.category != 'natural' This generates a good table with all the information I want to filter: id | propName | number 3 | Name 1 | 3 4 | Name 2 | 1 5 | Name 3 | 0 6 | Name 4 | 10 etc etc I now want to filter out the properties with number <= 0 So I tried to add an AND number > 0 But it reacts with Unknown column 'number' in 'where clause' apparently you can't filter on a name specified by a subquery? How can I achieve my goal?

How to simulate browser form POST method using PHP/cURL

I'm trying to simulate browser with POST method using PHP/cURL. When I looked at that live Http header it shows Content-Type: multipart/form-data. I checked on the internet where it was suggested that cURL will send multipart/form-data when a custom headers is specified to Content-Type: multipart/form-data. $headers = array( 'Content-Type' => 'multipart/form-data; boundary='.$boundary ); This didn't work for me either when I print_r(curl_getinfo()) it showed [content_type] => text/html; charset=UTF-8 Which means cURL sent a default headers I also read that sending/uploading a file with cURL will cause data to be send as multipart/form-data. Wired component null in seam EntityHome action

I have a custom EntityHome class. I wire the dependent entity in the wire method, but when I call the action (persist) the wired component is always null. What could be the reason, similar code generated by seam gen is apparently working. Here is the entity class. I have registered broadcast receiver and provided required permission in Manifest file. But when I run this application it changes the connection state and after that it crashes. But when I don't include this broadcast receiver it works fine. I am not able to see any kind of log which can provide some clue. Any idea why I am getting this error? PS: Some information about Android environment and platform. - Android API 10. - Running on Samsung Galaxy II which has android 2.3.6 Edit: my broadcast receiver file ConnectivityReceiver.java was present in default package and it was not being recognized by Android. Android was looking for this file in current package i.e com.rakesh.simplewidget; I just moved connectivityReciever.java file to com.rakesh.simplewidget package and problem was solved.

Content Box is a Little Off in IE9 ... How to Fix?

Hi there! I have a website at www.thetotempole.ca and when viewed in IE9... My websites content box (The green wooden backgrounded box with content inside) is moved slightly over to the left making a space between the actual container and the content box... Is there anyway I can fix this without harming any of the other browsers? Thanks!
