• PHP postgres backup.

  Hi. I am trying to make a Postgres PHP backup script. I have downloaded one for the command line which looks like this: #!/bin/bash find /home/russell/pg_bkp -type f -mtime +7 -exec rm {} \; time=`date +%Y-%m-%d`; # date in reverse so that lastest date appears last in the list of backup files. PGPASSWORD=****** pg_dump -i -h localhost -p 5432 -U postgres -F c -b -v -f "/home/russell/pg_bkp/$time.backup" ah3 How can I implement this in PHP? The extension that this creates is .backup. It works great and have used it many times. the data is perfect, but doing it from inside my website would be better. Thanks

  In the query the top part is getting all the years that will run in the stored procedure. • Prevent form field to be edited without disabling field

  I am currently working on a page that has a date picker for one of the field. One of the requirements by my client is to prevent the user from editing the field manually. Only the date picker would be possible to be used. (jQuery DatePicker) I had in mind to disable the field and use an hidden field to store the data (disabled from object ton send data on post). This sounds a bit wacky for something that could be done by javascript I'm pretty sure. So the big question, in javascript is it possible to prevent manual edition of a field without stopping datepicker plugin?

  I am using the excellent FileHelpers library to process a fixed-length airline schedule file. I have a date field, then a few fields later on in the record, a time field. I want to combine both of these in the FileHelpers record class, and know there is a custom FieldConverter attribute. With this attribute, you provide a custom function to handle your field data and implement StringToField and FieldToString. My question is: can I pass other fields (already read) to this customer FieldConverter too, so I can combine Date and Time together. FieldConverter has an implementation that allows you to refer to both a custom processing class AND 'other strings' or even an array of object.   I have installed proftpd on my debian 4.0 server. I have modified the proftpd.conf file so that there is a statement for AuthUserFile, which points to a valid file. The file is configured per the proftpd specs, however the user that I have placed in this file is not able to log-in to the server. What could I be doing wrong?   I'm trying to create a simple login window with the very common 'Remember me' functionality. The login validation is done AJAX style, thus the browser won't remember my input. My approach is to use the built-in state functionality, but how to use it confuses me.   I have a DataGridView in a windows form with 3 columns: Serial number, Name, and Date-Time. The Name column will always have either of the two values: "name1" or "name2". I need to sort these columns such that the grid displays all the rows with name values in a specific order (first display all the "name1" rows and then all the "name2" rows). Within the "name1" rows, I want the rows to be sorted by the Date-Time. Please note programmatically, all the 3 columns are strings. • Automating the choice between JPEG and PNG with a script

  Choosing the right format to save your images in is crucial for preserving image quality and reducing artifacts. Different formats follow different compression methods and come with their own set of advantages and disadvantages. JPG, for instance is suited for real life photographs that are rich in color gradients. The lossless PNG, on the other hand, is far superior when it comes to schematic figures: Picking the right format can be a chore when working with a large number of files. That's why I would love to find a way to automate it. A little bit of background on my particular use case: I am working on a number of handouts for a series of lectures at my unversity. The handouts are rich in figures, which I have to extract from PDF-formatted slides. Extracting these images gives me lossless PNGs, which are needlessly large at times. Converting these particular files to JPEG can reduce their size to up to less than 20% of their original file size, while maintaining the same quality. This is important as working with hundreds of large images in word processors is pretty crash-prone. Batch converting all extracted PNGs to JPEGs is not an option I am willing to follow, as many if not most images are better suited to be formatted as PNGs. Converting these would result in insignificant size reductions and sometimes even increases in filesize - that's at least what my test runs showed. What we can take from this is that file size after compression can serve as an indicator on what format is suited best for a particular image. It's not a particularly accurate predictor, but works well enough. So why not use it in form of a script: I included inotifywait because I would prefer for the script be executed automatically as soon as I drag an extracted image into a folder. This is a simpler version of the script that I've been using for the last couple of weeks: #!/bin/bash inotifywait -m --format "%w%f" --exclude '.jpg' -r -e create -e moved_to --fromfile '/home/MHC/.scripts/Workflow/Conversion/include_inotifywait' | while read file; do mogrify -format jpg -quality 92 "$file" done The advanced version of the script would have to be able to handle spaces in file names and directory names preserve the original file names flatten PNG images if an alpha value is set compare the file size between the temporary converted image and its original determine if the difference is greater than a given precentage act accordingly The actual conversion could be done with imagemagick tools: convert -quality 92 -flatten -background white file.png file.jpg Unfortunately, my bash skills aren't even close to advanced enough to convert the scheme above into an actual script, but I am sure many of you can. My reputation points on here are pretty low, but I will gladly award the most helpful answer with the highest bounty I can set.   On the select event of the datepicker I need to add and set values in multiple rows. In other words, I have something like this... Days Value Row 1 1 Row 2 2 Row 3 3 I have the "Days" and "Value" columns as textboxes. When I select a date from the datepicker I need to add the "Days" value for each row to the date selected. That value is what goes into the "Value" column. Example, I select 4/20/2010. The value in each respective row would then be 4/21/2010, 4/22/2010, 4/23/2010. Hopefully this makes sense and thank you for the help in advance.

• Database per application VS One big database for all applications

  Hello, I'm designing a few applications that will share 2 or 3 database tables and all of the other tables will be independent of each app. The shared databases contain mostly user information, and there might occur the case where other tables need to be shared, but that's my instinct speaking. I'm leaning over the one database for all applications solution because I want to have referential integrity, and I won't have to keep the same information up to date in each of the databases, but I'm probably going to end with a database of 100+ tables where only groups of ten tables will have related information. The database per application approach helps me keep everything more organized, but I don't know a way to keep the related tables in all databases up to date.   Hi all, I am running a simple DATEDIFF query but it doesn't seem to calculate the days properly or i'm doing something wrong. If I run PRINT DATEDIFF(Day, 2010-01-20, 2010-01-01) RETURN 19 Which is correct. If i change the month in the first date to Feb (02) I get something strange. PRINT DATEDIFF(Day, 2010-02-20, 2010-01-01) RETURN 20 Now shouldn't it be 48 or something? Can anyone see what i'm doing wrong or is this not the correct function to be using if I want the No of days between these dates? I was trying to install git on a Linux machine today, and encountered some problems: Not knowing the version of the installed OS, I've opened the /proc/version file which said: Linux version 2.6.9-42.0.2.ELsmp ([email protected]) (gcc version 3.4.6 20060404 (Red Hat 3.4.6-3)) #1 SMP Thu Aug 17 17:57:31 EDT 2006 Then, as written in the git documents (http://git-scm.com/download/linux), I assumed I could use the yum install git command for Fedora, but got the following result. [root@myserver ~]# yum install git -bash: yum: command not found So I tried installing yum using wget, but wasn't so lucky. It works fine, but I want to ask something else: If today is Saturday or Sunday I want it to show the next week... how do I do that?
