• Developing high-performance and scalable zend framework website

  We are going to develop an ads website like http://www.gumtree.com/ (it will not be like this one but just to give you an ideea) and we are having some issues regarding performance and scalability. We are planning on using Zend Framework for this project but this is all that I'm sure off at this point. I don't think a classic approch like Zend Framework (PHP) + MySQL + Memcache + jQuery (and I would throw Doctrine 2 in there to) will fix result in a high-performance application. I was thinking on making this a RESTful application (with Zend Framework) + NGINX (or maybe MongoDB) + Memcache (or eAccelerator -- I understand this will create problems with scalability on multiple servers) + jQuery, a CDN for static content, a server for images and a scalable server for the requests and the rest. My questions are: - What do you think about my approch? - What solutions would you recommand in terms of servers approch (MySQL, NGINX, MongoDB or pgsql) for a scalable application expected to have a lot of traffic using PHP?...I would be interested in your approch. Note: I'm a Zend Framework developer and don't have to much experience with the servers part (to determin what would be best solution for my scalable application)

• How do I install MySQLdb on a Python 2.6 source build, on Debian Lenny?

  I've installed Python 2.6 from source on my Debian Lenny server, as Lenny does not have the python2.6 package. So, my Python 2.5 has MySQLdb installed and working just fine because I installed the python-mysqldb package. • how to 'load data infile' on amazon RDS?

  not sure if this is a question better suited for serverfault but I've been messing with amazon RDS lately and was having trouble getting 'file' privileges to my web host mysql user. I'd assume that a simple: grant file on *.* to 'webuser@'%'; would work but it does not and I can't seem to do it with my 'root' user as well. What gives? The reason we use load data is because it is super super fast for doing thousands of inserts at once. anyone know how to remedy this or do I need to find a different way? This page, http://docs.amazonwebservices.com/AmazonRDS/latest/DeveloperGuide/index.html?Concepts.DBInstance.html seems to suggest that I need to find a different way around this. Help? • flushing database cache in SWI-Prolog

  We are using swi-prolog to run our testcases. Whenever the test starts, I am opening the connection to MYSQL database and storing the Name of the Test hat is being done and then closing the DB. These tests run for about 2 days continuously. After the tests are done, the results basically gets stored in folder in the server. There is a predicate in another prolog file that is called to update the results to the MYSQL database. The code is simple, I use odbc library and just call odbc_* predicates to connect and update the mysql by issuing direct queries. The actual problem is : If I try to call the Predicate from the same Prolog window, where the test just got completed, I get an error as updating to the DB server. Although I do not get any error in the connection. If I close the session of that prolog with halt and closing all the open prolog windows , then open an other complete new instance of Prolog and run the predicate the update goes well. I have a feeling that there is some connection reference to the MySQL DB in Prolog database. Is there any way to clear the database in prolog so that I can run the same predicate without closing any existing prolog windows? Any ideas appreciated. Thanks.

  I have googled but I can't find answers for these questions. Your advice is appreciated. centOS on vps with 512MB RAM, nginx, php5 (fastcgi), mysql5 (myisam, not innodb). I need to optimize this app created by some ex-employee. This app is working, but it's slow. Table: t1(id[bigint(20)],c1[mediumtext],c2[mediumtext],c3[mediumtext],c4[mediumtext]) id is some random big number, and is PK Those mediumtext rows look like this: c1="|box-002877|" c2="|ct-2348|rd-11124854|hw-3949|wd-8872|hw-119037736|...etc.. " c3="|fg-2448|wd-11172|hw-1656|...etc.. " c4="|hg-2448|qd-16667|...etc." (some columns contain a lot of data, around 900 KiB, database around 300 MiB) Yes, mediumtext "is bad", and (20) is too big... but I didn't create this. Those codes can be found on any of those 4 mediumtext's... //he needs all the columns of the row containing $code, so he wrote this: function f1($code) { SELECT * FROM t1 WHERE c1 LIKE '%$code%' OR c2 LIKE '%$code%' OR c3 LIKE '%$code%' OR c4 LIKE '%$code%'; Questions: Q1. If $code is found on c1... mysql automatically stops checking and returns row=id+c1+c2+c3+c4? or it will continue (wasting time) checking c2, c3 and c4?... Q2. Mysql is working with this table on disk (not RAM) because of the mediumtext, right? is this the primary cause of slowness? Q3. That query can be cached by mysql (if using a big query_cache_size=128M value on the my.cnf)? or that's not cacheable due to the mediumtexts, or due to the "OR LIKE"...? Q4. Do you recommend rewriting this with mysql's INSTR() / LOCATE() / MATCH..AGAINST [FULLTEXT]?

• Out Of Memory error while executing mysqldump

  Hi, I am getting the following error when trying to backup a database using mysqldump from the command prompt. C:\Documents and Settings\bobC:\Adobe\LiveCycle8.2\mysql\bin\mysqldump --quick --add-locks --lock-tables -c --default-character-set=utf8 --skip-opt -pxxxx -u adobe -r C:\Adobe\LiveCycle8.2\configurationManager\working\upgrade\mysql\adobe. sql -B adobe --port=3306 --host=localhost mysqldump: Out of memory (Needed 10380928 bytes) mysqldump: Got error: 2008: MySQL client ran out of memory when retrieving data from server As you can see i am using the --quick and --skip-opt too; cannot figure out what is causing the issue. The server log has the following messages 100420 15:16:39 InnoDB: Error: cannot allocate 4814100 bytes of memory for InnoDB: a BLOB with malloc! Total allocated memory InnoDB: by InnoDB 33427880 bytes. Operating system errno: 2 InnoDB: Check if you should increase the swap file or InnoDB: ulimits of your operating system. InnoDB: On FreeBSD check you have compiled the OS with InnoDB: a big enough maximum process size. 100420 15:16:40 InnoDB: Warning: could not allocate 3814100 + 1000000 bytes to retrieve InnoDB: a big column. Table name adobe/tb_form_data Any help on this regard is highly appreciated P.S: The backup works fine without any issues when i use the MYSQL Administrator, but since an external app( adobe livecycle installer) uses the above command to backup the database during install, i need to get this working. • QSqlQuery UPDATE/INSERT DateTime with server's time (eg CURRENT_TIMESTAMP)

  I am using QSqlQuery to insert data into a MySQL database. Currently all I care about is getting this to work with MySQL, but ideally I'd like to keep this as platform-independent as possible. What I'm after, in the context of MySQL, is to end up with code that effectively executes something like the following query: UPDATE table SET time_field=CURRENT_TIMESTAMP() WHERE id='5' The following code is what I have attempted, but it fails: QSqlQuery query; query.prepare("INSERT INTO table SET time_field=? WHERE id=?"); query.addBindValue("CURRENT_TIMESTAMP()"); query.addBindValue(5); query.exec(); The error I get is: Incorrect datetime value: 'CURRENT_TIMESTAMP()' for column 'time_field' at row 1 QMYSQL3: Unable to execute statement. I am not surprised as I assume Qt is doing some type checking when it binds values. I have dug through the Qt documentation as well as I know how, but I can't find anything in the API designed specifically for supporting MySQL's CURRENT_TIMESTAMP() function, or that of any other DBMS. Any suggestions?

• Can one connection get details of another? Or, how can I get the most detailed pending transaction

  Is there a Mysql statement which provides full details of any other open connection or user? For this particular case, on myisam tables specifically. Looking at Mysql's SHOW TABLE STATUS documentation, it's missing some very important information for my purpose. For example: remote odbc connection one is inserting several thousand records, which due to a slow connection speed can take up to an hour. Tcp connection two, using PHP on the server's localhost, is running select queries with aggregate functions on that data. Before allowing connection two to run those queries, I'd like connection two to first check to make sure there's no pending inserts on any other connection on those specific tables so it can instead wait until all data is available. If the table is currently being written to, I'd like to spit back to the user of connection two an approximation of how much longer to wait based on the number of pending inserts. Ideally by table, I'd like to get back using a query the timestamp when connection one began the write, total inserts left to be done, and total inserts already completed. Instead of insert counts, even knowing number of bytes written and left to write would work just fine here. Obviously since connection two is a tcp connection via a PHP script, all I can really use in that script is some sort of query. I suppose if I have to, since it is on localhost, I can exec() it if the only way is by a mysql command line option that outputs this info, but I'd rather not. I suppose I could simply update a custom-made transaction log before and after this massive insert task which the PHP script can check, but hopefully there's already a built-in Mysql feature I can take advantage of.

• PDO closeCursor Error

  Hey Everyone, I currently have a database layer that I wrote myself and I have been using it now for over a year without any problems. The database class uses PDO, and there are two different databases that I regularly connect to (MySQL and MS SQL). The MS SQL database is used for Accpac accounting storage, and the MySQL database is used for everything else. In one of the MySQL databases I have all of the dsn's listed which I use to create the string I need to connect to the MS SQL databases. I have a new program I am trying to write which I am taking employee data from one of the MySQL databases, and using the employee ID to get the employee's information from the MS SQL database. For some reason, whenever I run the program it will get through about 1200 records (out of 11k) and then crash with an error like the following, Fatal error: Call to a member function closeCursor() on a non-object I have tried moving the loops around in many different ways, and I have tried manually closing the connections by setting the database handle to null. Nothing I do seems to work. Thanks for any help! Metropolis

  I'm going to start a new project which is going to be small initially but may grow to big over the years. I'm strongly convinced that I'm going to use ASP.NET MVC with jQuery for UI. I want to go for MySQL as database for some reasons but worried on few things. I've a good years of experience working on SQL Server databases and on one project I've had a bad experience creating and managing stored procedures on MySQL database. I'm totally new to Linq but I see that it is easier to use once you are familiar with it. First thing is that accessing data should be easy. So I thought I should use MySQL to Linq but somewhere I read that it is not directly supported but MySQL .NET connector adds support for EntityFramework. I don't know what are the pros and cons of it. I would love if I can implement repository pattern. Will it be possible if I use Entity Framework? I'm not clear on how I should go about all this or I should just forget every thing and directly use SQL to Linq on SQL Server. I'm also concerned about the performance. Someone told me that if we use Entity framework it fetches lot of data and then filter it. Is that right?

• Having trouble with php and ajax search function

  I am still quite new to php/ajax/mysql. In anycase, I'm creating a search function which is returning properly the data I'm looking for. In brief, I have a mysql database set up. A php website that has a search function. I'm now trying to add a link to a mysql database search rather than just showing the results. In my search.php, the echo line is working fine but the $string .= is not returning anything. I'm just trying to get the same as the echo but with the link to the mysql php record.   When I try and use a populator or sphinx on a Ruby app I keep receiving dyld errors. I used to use MAMP on OS X Leopard but since I've upgraded to Snow Leopard and am now using standalone MySQL (10.5 64-bit). $ rake ts:index Would return dyld: Library not loaded: /Applications/MAMP/Library/lib/mysql/libmysqlclient.15.dylib Referenced from: /usr/local/bin/indexer Reason: image not found rake aborted! Even though to remove MAMP I just deleted the /Applications/MAMP directory. But it still looks like dylib has references to it. I'm using the MySQL connector so the rowtype is MySql.Data.Types.MySqlDateTime. Is there any quick way to convert it into System.DateTime so I can slot it straight into the case statement? Here's a link to the code I used, I copied it verbatim so I've not copied and pasted it here. It throws a MySql.Data.Types.MySqlDateTime not handled exception: Code Project Thanks in advance for any help.

• Can't get access to PHPmyAdmin after setting a root password and using Instant Rails

  Wanted to get started with Ruby on Rails so I installed instant rails and set up a mysql password. Problem is now I can't get access to phpmyadmin. From the rails control panel, when I go to configure database (via PhpMyadmin) it opens up phpmyadmin with the message Error MySQL said: Documentation #1045 - Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO) When I used to use XAMPP after setting a password instead of taking me directly within phpmyadmin (as it did without a password) it took me to the login screen instead. With instant rails that's not the case. Anyone had this problem when they first set a mysql password and using the instant rails package?

• MySQLdb through proxy

  I'm using the above mentioned Python lib to connect to a MySQL server. So far I've worked locally and all worked fine, until i realized I'll have to use my program in a network where all access goes through a proxy. Does anyone now how I can set the connections managed by that lib to use a proxy? Alternatively: do you know of another Python lib for MySQL that can handle this? I also have no idea if the if the proxy server will allow access to the standard MySQL port or how I can trick it to allow it. Help on this is also welcomed.
