Given that we are creating fairly simple desktop software which connects to backend Web Services, (ie. not a particularly processor-intensive application) then what if any sort of performance hit might be expected? And is any particular platform likely to be worse affected? Eg. multi-processor / 64 bit.

    Hi, since in mysql datetime field is represented as string (i'm not sure how it works internally), wouldn't be from performance point of view faster to store date as unix timestamp? I don't need to use any mysql native date functions, i'm going for performance of sorting and selecting data. if there was an index for that column, would be difference between int and datetime? The problem is that when I try to select another date, it doesn't update the textfield. It seems that when the textfield already has a value, it doesn't update it.

    I am trying out the new Spring 4 release, and I found out that the BeanDefinition interface has been removed, if so what is the replacement class we should use in a scenario where we define a scope for a bean ? Prior to Spring release of 4 you could do this. @Bean @Scope(BeanDefinition.SCOPE_PROTOTYPE) class MyBean{ ... } EDIT As of Spring 4, can't you specify the spring bean scope in the @Scope Annotation, the only option given is to add a string and then the ProxyMode ?

For this I use a CompareValidator with Operator="DataTypeCheck" Type="Date" The problem is that this Validator doesn't work properly on Firefox with 2 digit years. ( javascript error: m[2] is undefined) With a 4 digits year it's working properly.   • "freeze" one column in flex datagrid

    I'm using a datagrid to display a column of date ranges and several columns of data. I'd like to make the first column (the date ranges) fixed; i.e. that column stays in place when the user scrolls the other columns. That way, the dates column will always be visible as the user scrolls through many data columns. I don't see a datagrid property for this; anyone have a solution? TIA

    I have a django app that tracks activities that can benefit a classroom. Using the django examples, I was able to build a form to enter this data. But when I try to add widgets to that form, things get tricky. What I want is a calendar widget that lets the user enter the 'activity_date' field using a widget. If I use Admin interface. The AdminDateWidget works fine. however. This particular user isn't allowed access to the admin interface so I need a different way to present this widget. Also I couldn't figure out how to make the bring the admin widget over into non-admin pages. So I tried a custom widget. This is the first custom widget I've built, so I'm not quite sure what is supposed to be going on here. Any Expert Advice? The flash player does not appear any more, so, i assume that is something wrong in the cstextForPlayer. I've spent over one hour to figure it out but i've failed. Does anyone see the problem?   • Does NSKeyedUnarchiver autorelease?

    I'm doing some archiving to a property list and when I unarchive my data using NSKeyedUnarchiver I find that my app crashes if I release the object afterward. I was wondering if the finishDecoding message also autoreleases the object. Seems weird that it crashes when I release it.
