• Facebook Developer Toolkit doesn't redirect after authorization

• Extending the RoleProvider GetRolesForUser()

  The GetRolesForUser() method in the RoleProvider takes the user login name and returns the list of roles for that user. But in my application this is not enough, I need a few more pieces of information to be able to get the user's roles. How can I get this extra information into the method? I have it in the Session, but I found out that Session is not available in the RoleProvider. What I had in mind was putting this extra info in some class that extends MembershipUser, assuming I can get to it inside the RoleProvider. But I don't know how to create the CustomMembershipUser and make it part of the MembershipProvider. Is this even possible? The easy way out would be using cookies, but I'm trying to keep away from it.

• Django Per-site caching using memcached

  Hi, So I'm using per-site caching on a project and I've observed the following, which is kind of confusing. When I load a flat page in my browser then change it through admin and then do a refresh (within the cache timeout) there is no change in the page--as expected. However when I stat a new session in a different browser and load the page (still within the timeout) the app is hit instead of the cache, with the Isn't the cache key generated from the URL? it seems that the session state is getting in there somewhere, which is causing a cache miss. • Thread Synchronisation 101

  Previously I've written some very simple multithreaded code, and I've always been aware that at any time there could be a context switch right in the middle of what I'm doing, so I've always guarded access the shared variables through a CCriticalSection class that enters the critical section on construction and leaves it on destruction. I know this is fairly aggressive and I enter and leave critical sections quite frequently and sometimes egregiously (e.g. at the start of a function when I could put the CCriticalSection inside a tighter code block) but my code doesn't crash and it runs fast enough. At work my multithreaded code needs to be a tighter, only locking/synchronising at the lowest level needed. At work I was trying to debug some multithreaded code, and I came across this: EnterCriticalSection(&m_Crit4); m_bSomeVariable = true; LeaveCriticalSection(&m_Crit4); Now, m_bSomeVariable is a Win32 BOOL (not volatile), which as far as I know is defined to be an int, and on x86 reading and writing these values is a single instruction, and since context switches occur on an instruction boundary then there's no need for synchronising this operation with a critical section. I did some more research online to see whether this operation did not need synchronisation, and I came up with two scenarios it did: The CPU implements out of order execution or the second thread is running on a different core and the updated value is not written into RAM for the other core to see; and The int is not 4-byte aligned. I believe number 1 can be solved using the "volatile" keyword. In VS2005 and later the C++ compiler surrounds access to this variable using memory barriers, ensuring that the variable is always completely written/read to the main system memory before using it. Number 2 I cannot verify, I don't know why the byte alignment would make a difference. I don't know the x86 instruction set, but does mov need to be given a 4-byte aligned address? If not do you need to use a combination of instructions? That would introduce the problem. So... QUESTION 1: Does using the "volatile" keyword (implicity using memory barriers and hinting to the compiler not to optimise this code) absolve a programmer from the need to synchronise a 4-byte/8-byte on x86/x64 variable between read/write operations? QUESTION 2: Is there the explicit requirement that the variable be 4-byte/8-byte aligned? I did some more digging into our code and the variables defined in the class: class CExample { private: CRITICAL_SECTION m_Crit1; // Protects variable a CRITICAL_SECTION m_Crit2; // Protects variable b CRITICAL_SECTION m_Crit3; // Protects variable c CRITICAL_SECTION m_Crit4; // Protects variable d // ... }; Now, to me this seems excessive. I thought critical sections synchronised threads between a process, so if you've got one you can enter it and no other thread in that process can execute. There is no need for a critical section for each variable you want to protect, if you're in a critical section then nothing else can interrupt you. I think the only thing that can change the variables from outside a critical section is if the process shares a memory page with another process (can you do that?) and the other process starts to change the values. Mutexes would also help here, named mutexes are shared across processes, or only processes of the same name? QUESTION 3: Is my analysis of critical sections correct, and should this code be rewritten to use mutexes? I have had a look at other synchronisation objects (semaphores and spinlocks), are they better suited here? QUESTION 4: Where are critical sections/mutexes/semaphores/spinlocks best suited? That is, which synchronisation problem should they be applied to. Is there a vast performance penalty for choosing one over the other? And while we're on it, I read that spinlocks should not be used in a single-core multithreaded environment, only a multi-core multithreaded environment. So, QUESTION 5: Is this wrong, or if not, why is it right? Thanks in advance for any responses :)

  We are working on a C# DLL that stores the values of a Classic ASP Session. Everything is okay but some QueryStrings being stored in Session. Problem is: we are able to read the QueryString from the DLL using IRequestDictionary and IStringList, but we can't find a way to recreate them the next time a page ask for them. We have stored all information necessary to recreate them. So, the question is: Is it possible to instantiate and set their values back? Is there any other option?

• Modify MDT wizard to automate computer naming

  I originally posted this question to StackOverflow, but upon further consideration it might be more appropriate here. Situation: I am imaging new systems using MDT Lite-Touch. I am trying to customize the wizard to automate the naming of new systems so that they include a prefix "AG-", a department code which is selected from a drop-down box in the wizard page (eg. "COMM"), and finally the serial number of the computer being imaged, so that my result in this case would be "AG-COMM-1234567890" Status: I have banged away at this for a while but my Google searches have not turned up answers, my trial-and-error is not producing useful error messages and I think I am missing some fundamentals of how to get variables from the wizard page into the variables used by the lite-touch wizard. Progress: I first created the HTML page which I will include below and added a script to the page to concatenate the pieces into a variable called OSDComputername which, for testing, I could output in a msgbox and get to display correctly. The problem with this is I don't know how to trigger the script then assign it to the OSDComputername variable that is used throughout the rest of the Light-Touch process. I changed the script to a function and added it to DeployWiz_Initization.vbs then used the Initialization field in WDS to call it. I'll include the function below. The problem with this is I would get "Undefined Variable" for OSDComputername and I am not sure it is pulling the data from the HTML correctly. I tried adding the scripting into the customsettings.ini file after the "OSDComputername=" This resulted in the wizard just outputting my code in text as the computer name. I am now trying adding variables to "Properties=" (eg.DepartmentName) in the customsettings.ini, pulling thier value from the HTML Form and setting that value to the variable in my function in DeployWiz_Initization.vbs and calling them after "OSDComputername=" in the fashion "OSDComputername="AG-" & %DepartmentName%" in customsettings.ini I am rebuilding right now and will see how this goes Any help would be appreciated. • Am I using EJBs properly?

  I am using a JEE6 stack including JPA 2.0, JSF 2.0, EJB 3.1 etc. The way my architecture is setup is the following: I have JPA annotated DAOs using hibernate as my JPA provider. I have JSF Managed beans which correspond to my facelet/xhtml pages. I have EJBs that handle all of my database requests. My XHTML pages have JSF EL which make calls to my Managed beans. My managed beans contain references to my DAO entities which are managed by EJBs. For example, I have a user entity which is mapped to a db table. I have a user EJB which handles all CRUD operations that return Users. I have a page that edits a user. The highlevel workflow would be: navigate to user edit page - EL calls a method located in the managed bean that loads a user. The method calls userEJB.loadUser(user) from the EJB to get the user from the database. The user is edited and submit - a function is called in the managed bean which calls a function in the EJB to save the user. etc. I am running into issues accessing my data within my JSF pages using EJBs. I am having a lot of problems with lazy initialization errors, which I believe is due to how I have set things up. For example, I have a Client entity that has a List of users which are lazily loaded. In order to get a client I call a method in my EJB which goes to the database, finds a client and returns it. Later on i wish to access this clients list of users, in order to do so i have to go back to the EJB by calling some sort of method in order to load those users (since they are lazily loaded). This means that I have to create a method such as public List<User> getUserListByClient(Client c) { c = em.merge(c); return c.getUserList(); } The only purpose of this method is to load the users (and I'm not even positive this approach is good or works). If i was doing session management myself, I would like just leave the session open for the entire request and access the property directly, this would be fine as the session would be open anyway, there seems to be this one extra layer of indirection in EJBs which is making things difficult for me. I do like EJBs as I like the fact that they are controlled by the container, pooled, offer transaction management for free etc. However, I get the feeling that I am using them incorrectly, or I have set up my JSF app incorrectly. • Using the Facebook Graph APIs PHP library

  I am using the PHP library for the Graph API (http://github.com/facebook/php-sdk) but am a bit confused about how it is all working (or not). I just want to authenticate the user and get the user ID back. What I really want to know is what to do once the user has logged in to Facebook and returned to my site. There is data called 'session' in the URL. Does this need to be stored in order to continually get the user ID? It is really not apparent, to me, from the samples or (lack of) documentation. Also, would it be easier to just cut out the PHP library altogether and just handle the reponse myself, storing it in a session variable. If i were to do this, what is the best method of getting/extracting the current users ID?

  I went to a PHP job interview, I was asked to implement a piece of code to detect visitors are bots to crawl thru the website and steal content. So I implemented a few lines of code to detect if the site is being refreshed/visited too quickly/often by using a session variable to store last visit timestamp. I got told that session varaibles can be manupilated by cookies etc, so I am wondering if there is a application variable that I can use to store the timestamp information against visitor IPs eg $_SERVER[REMOTE_ADDR]? I know that I can write the data to a file but it's not very good for a high traffic website. Regards James

I load objects via: _lightSabers = session.CreateCriteria(typeof(LightSaber)).List<LightSaber>(); I apply raw user input directly to one property on the "LightSaber" class: myLightSaber.NameTag = "Raw malicious text from user"; I then save the LightSaber: session.SaveOrUpdate(myLightSaber); Everything I've seen says that yes, under this situation you are immune to SQL injection, because of the way NHibernate parameterizes and escapes the queries under the hood. However, I'm also a relative NHibernate beginner so I wanted to double-check. *waves hand* these aren't the droids you're looking for. Thanks!

  Hello I have a web application, which is using a MS SQL 2005 database. My problem is, that the application has no rolemanagement. So the application always accesses the database with one default user. But now I have to save and access a value only for the current user. Is there any way to do this? Maybe something like a session on the webserver? The best way would be, if there is any possibility to access the current session id of the webserver from T-SQL. Do anyone understand my problem? :) Torben

• Adding an attachment to a .NET Email

  How do I attach a file with a very unfriendly name (like a file with a session Id number in it) but have it attached as another name?The file has the session ID in it to avoid clashes name on the web server nut when I attach it to the file, a friendlier name is preferable. Is there a way to attach the file with teh unfriendly name as anotehr name so that when the user gets the email he can tell from the name what the content of the file is? I'd hate to have to create a unique folder just to put a common file name in it for the purpose of simply attaching it to an email. • PHP Retrieve Cookie which was not set with setcookie

  I have the following problem - a third party software is setting a cookie with the login credentials and then forward the user to my app. I now need to retrieve the cookie values: The problem is - I can do this easily in the Frontend/AS3 with var ticket : String = CookieUtil.getCookie( 'ticket' ).toString(); but in PHP, the cookie is not within the $_COOKIES array. The cookie values are: Name: ticket Domain: .www.myserver.com Path : / Send for: encrypted connections only Expires: at end of session The one I see, and set before in PHP is: Name: myCookie Host: www.myserver.com Path : / Send for: any type of connection Expires: at end of session Actually, since host/domain are both the same, it should be visible in the PHP script, since it is running on this domain.   Hi I have a weird problems with NSArray where some of the members of the objects in my array are going out of scope but not the others: I have a simple object called Section. It has 3 members. @interface Section : NSObject { NSNumber *section_Id; NSNumber *routeId; NSString *startLocationName; } @property(nonatomic,retain) NSNumber *section_Id; @property(nonatomic,retain) NSNumber *routeId; @property(nonatomic,retain) NSString *startLocationName; @end @implementation Section @synthesize section_Id; @synthesize routeId; @synthesize startLocationName; //Some static finder methods to get list of Sections from the db + (NSMutableArray *) findAllSections:{ - (void)dealloc { [section_Id release]; [routeId release]; [startLocationName release]; [super dealloc]; } @end I fill it from a database in a method called findAllSection self.sections = [Section findAllSections]; In find all sections I create some local variables fill them with data from db. NSNumber *secId = [NSNumber numberWithInt:id_section]; NSNumber *rteId = [NSNumber numberWithInt:id_route]; NSString *startName = @""; Then create a new Section and store these local variable's data in the Section Section *section = [[Section alloc] init]; section.section_Id = secId; section.routeId = rteId; section.startLocationName = startName; Then I add the section to the array [sectionsArray addObject:section]; Then I clean up, releasing local variables and the section I added to the array [secId release]; [rteId release]; [startName release]; [locEnd_name release]; [section release]; In a loop repeat for all Sections (release local variables and section is done in every loop) The method returns and I check the array and all the Sections are there. I cant seem to dig further down to see the values of the Section objects in the array (is this possible) Later I try and retrieve one of the Sections I get it from the array Section * section = [self.sections objectAtIndex:row]; Then check the value NSLog(@" SECTION SELECTED:%@",section.section_Id); BUT call to section.section_Id crashed as section.section_Id is out of scope. I check the other members of this Section object and theyre ok. After some trial and error I find that by commenting out the release of the member variable the object is OK. //[secId release]; [rteId release]; [startName release]; [locEnd_name release]; [section release]; My questions are: Am I cleaning up ok? Should I release the object added to an array and the local variable in the function? Is my dealloc ok in Section? Does this code look ok and should I be looking elsewhere for the problem? I'm not doing anything complicated just filling array from DB use it in Table Cell. If its a stupid mistake then tell me (I did put NEWBIE on the question so dont be shocked it was asked) I can comment out the release but would prefer to know why or if code looks ok then ill need further digging. the only place that secId is released is in the dealloc. Thanks

• Problem passing ELMAH log id to Custom Error page in ASP.NET

  I am using ELMAH to log unhandled exceptions in an ASP.NET Webforms application. Logging is working fine. I want to pass the ELMAH error log id to a custom error page that will give the user the ability to email an administrator about the error. I have followed the advice from this answer. • Using Connection Based State with Apache2

  I am writing an HTTPS based application using Apache2 as the web server, and python as the language (not sure which framework or Apache2 mod yet). After clients (which are not web browsers) first establish an HTTPS connection to the server, they are expected to send an authentication message. If authentication is successful, they are able to send more commands, until the connection is closed (HTTP 1.1 will be used, with a long keep alive time). My question is, is it possible to have state associated with the connection? I don't want the client to have to send cookies or session ids -- the HTTPS application should be able to figure out the session based on the connection that each request belongs to...the question is how?

  I'm having an issue accessing raw request information from PHP when accessing a script using the HTTP DELETE directive. I'm using a JS front end which is accessing a script using Ajax. This script is actually part of a RESTful API which I am developing. The endpoint in this example is: http://api.site.com/session This endpoint is used to generate an authentication token which can be used for subsequent API requests. Using the GET method on this URL along with a modified version of HTTP Basic Authentication will provide an access token for the client. This token must then be included in all other interactions with the service until it expires. Once a token is generated, it is passed back to the client in a format specified by an 'Accept' header which the client sends the service; in this case 'application/json'. Upon success it responds with an HTTP 200 Ok status code. Upon failure, it throws an exception using the HTTP 401 Authorization Required code. Now, when you want to delete a session, or 'log out', you hit the same URL, but with the HTTP DELETE directive. To verify access to this endpoint, the client must prove they were previously authenticated by providing the token they want to terminate. If they are 'logged in', the token and session are terminated and the service should respond with the HTTP 204 No Content status code, otherwise, they are greeted with the 401 exception again. Now, the problem I'm having is with removing sessions. With the DELETE directive, using Ajax, I can't seem to access any parameters I've set once the request hits the service. In this case, I'm looking for the parameter entitled 'token'. I look at the raw request headers using Firebug and I notice the 'Content-Length' header changes with the size of the token being sent. This is telling me that this data is indeed being sent to the server. The question is, using PHP, how the hell to I access parameter information? It's not a POST or GET request, so I can't access it as you normally would in PHP. The parameters are within the content portion of the request. I've tried looking in $_SERVER, but that shows me limited amount of headers. I tried 'apache_request_headers()', which gives me more detailed information, but still, only for headers. I even tried 'file_get_contents('php://stdin');' and I get nothing. How can I access the content portion of a raw HTTP request? Sorry for the lengthy post, but I figured too much information is better than too little. :)

• Ending php sessions for debugging purposes

  Hi, This might be very easy to do, but I haven't been able to figure it out. Basically, I have a loosely couple web-app written in python and php. The python code uses PHP sessions (generated from the PHP app when the user logs in) to check if the user is logged in/has permission to access the given python resource. My question is this: What is the easiest way to force all active sessions to timeout. I would like to do this for debugging purposes, to test out the python code. I tried changing the session.max_lifetime PHP variable, but that still doesn't guarantee that the session has ended and is removed. I tried just deleting the file, but this seems to cause problems (when i refresh the php page, errors show up in my apache logs and it won't reload quickly) Any ideas?

• Eclipse takes ages to display breakpoint when running tomcat

  Hi, When tomcat hits a breakpoint in Eclipse, the execution thread stops, but the breakpoint takes absolutely ages to appear in Eclipse. The same is true if I try to inspect a variable; the first time takes about 2 minutes. After that, the debug session is fine. What with that and the CONSTANT need to keep re-publishing to tomcat every time I change something, it's driving me nuts. Does anybody have any ideas why it's so slow? Also, how can I stop tomcat restarting the webapp every time I try to change something during a debug session? I am sure it never used to do that... Eclipse is 3.3.1.1 with J2EE Standard Tools and Web Standard Tools. Tomcat is 5.5 Thanks a lot for any advice! Ryan

• Spring @Autowired and WebApplicationContext in Tomcat

  @Autowired works only once. What to do to make it wire the bean every time the Servlet is recreated? My web-app (Tomcat6 container) consists of 2 Servlets. Every servlet has private fields. Their setters are marked with @Autowired In the init method I use WebApplicationContextUtils ... autowireBean(this); It autowires the properties marked with @Autowired once - during the initialization of the Servlet. Any other session will see these fields values, they will not be rewired after the previous session is destroyed. What to do to make them rewire them each time a Servlet constructor is called? a) Put the autowiring into the constructor? Or better 2) get a web app context and extract a bean from there?

• [Rais] OAuth with Digg API

  I'm attempting to get Rails to play nice with the Digg API's OAuth. I'm using the oauth gem (ruby one, not the rails one). My code looks approximately like this: @consumer = OAuth::Consumer.new(API_KEY, API_SECRET, :scheme => :header, :http_method => :post, :oauth_callback => "http://locahost:3000", :request_token_url => 'http://services.digg.com/1.0/endpoint?method=oauth.getRequestToken', :access_token_url => 'http://services.digg.com/1.0/endpoint?method=oauth.getAccessToken', :authorize_url => 'http://digg.com/oauth/authorize') @request_token = @consumer.get_request_token session[:request_token] = @request_token.token session[:request_token_secret] = @request_token.secret redirect_to @request_token.authorize_url Which is by-the-book in terms of what the gem documentation gave me. However, Digg spits a "400 Bad Request" error back at me when @consumer.get_request_token is called. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong. Any ideas?
