I have been reading this tutorial by Ray Wenderlich, I have modified it so it is flatter and gradually goes down hill. Basically I have a ball roll down a bumpy hill, but at the moment the ball only drops from about 100 pixels above. When ever the touch the app crashes (the app is a Mac Cocos2d Box2d app).   In the ApiDemos, there is a view example called Gallery1 which declares a custom style in attrs.xml, as such: <declare-styleable name="Gallery1"> <attr name="android:galleryItemBackground" /> </declare-styleable> now, I want to do the same thing for my widgets, but using a different namespace. However, as soon as I replace the android: namespace with something else, I get this error: ERROR: In Gallery1, unable to find attribute myns:galleryItemBackground Unable to find attribute? Why does it look for an attribute I am about to declare? Isn't the point of this file to be able to name your own custom attributes? It's interesting to note that it works if you do not supply a custom namespace, but just an attribute name.

• Using Response.Redirect with jQuery Thickbox

  I'm using jQuery Thickbox to display an iframe (upload.aspx) that allows a user to upload a file. In the code behind for the upload.aspx I finish by sending: Response.Redirect("blah.aspx"); The page I redirect to is dynamic based on the results of the upload process. When this redirect happens, it happens inside the Thickbox and not the parent window as I'd like it to. • Use android.R.layout.simple_list_item_1 with a light theme

  I have learned that when using android:entries with a ListView, it uses android.R.layout.simple_list_item_1 as the layout for a list item and android.R.id.text1 as the ID of the TextView inside that layout. Please, correct me if I'm wrong. Knowing this, I wanted to create my own adapter but use the same layout resources, in order to provide UI consistency with the platform. Thus, I tried the following: mAdapter = new SimpleCursorAdapter( getApplicationContext(), android.R.layout.simple_list_item_1, mSites, new String[] { SitesDatabase.KEY_SITE }, new int[] { android.R.id.text1 } ); Unfortunately, because I am using a light theme (I have android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Light" in my <application>), the list items appear with white text, making them unreadable. However, when using android:entries to specify a static list of items, the items appear correctly, with black text color. What am I doing wrong? How can I make my dynamic adapter use the standard layout but work with a light theme?

• Wix, Launch application after installation complete, with UAC turned on.

  Good day. I've been building an installer for our product using the WIX(Windows Installer XML) technology. The expected behavior is that the product is launched, if the check box is checked after installation. This has been working for some time now, but we found out recently that UAC of Win 7, and Vista is stopping the application from launching. I've done some research and it has been suggested to me that I should add the attributes Execute='deferred' and Impersonate='no'. Which I did, but then found out that to execute deferred, the CustomAction has to be performed, between the InstallInitialize, and IntallFinalize phases; which is not what I need. I need the product to launch AFTER install finalize, IF the launch checkbox is checked. Is there any other way to elevate permissions?   I have a custom UIViewController and a corresponding view in a nib file. The view is added to the UIWindow directly. [window addSubview:customViewController.view]; Sizes of the window and the view are default (480x320 and 460x320 correspondingly). When I create CustomViewController inside the nib file and check "Resize View From NIB" in IB Attributes tab everything works just fine. But when I create CustomViewController programmmatically with initWithNibName message the view is not positioned on the window correctly. There is an empty stripe at the bottom. Its height is 20px. I see it's because of status bar offset. IB handles that with "Resize View From NIB". How to emulate that programmatically?

• What's the best C# recommendation engine or framework?

  Is there anyway to use the examples for the "My Media" Microsoft research project? My Media is a "dynamic personalization and recommendation software framework toolkit" ( http://www.mymediaproject.org ), but out of the box it doesn't provide a sample database (only a LINQ-to-SQL .dbml schema), I don't believe it will be easy to re-create by hand. I was hoping to understand recommendation engines and machine learning with this C#/.Net as a testbed, but without a simple quick start or db it seems impractical. Any suggestions? (I guess it's time to switch to Java with Apache's Mahout, Weka or something similar?)

I've read loads of tutorials and some books which explain how you can use attributes to require authorisation (and membership in a role) like this: [Authorize(Roles="Admin")] public ActionResult Index() { return View(); } I've made classes that implement IIdentity and IPrincipal, I create a userPrincipal object once the user has successfully logged in and I add it to a session variable. When the user goes to another page I want it to set the HttpContext.Current.User to the object that I stored in the session, something like this: if (Session["User"] != null) { HttpContext.Current.User = Session["User"] as MyUser; } My question is: Where abouts do I put the code directly above? I tried Application_AuthenticateRequest but it tells me Session state is not available in this context. Many thanks.

• How to configure LocalSessionFactoryBean to release connections after transaction end?

  I am testing an application (Spring 2.5, Hibernate 3.5.0 Beta, Atomikos 3.6.2, and Postgreql 8.4.2) with the configuration for the DAO listed below. The problem that I see is that the pool of 10 connections with the dataSource gets exhausted after the 10's transaction. I know 'hibernate.connection.release_mode' has no effect unless the session is obtained with openSession rather then using a contextual session. I am wandering if anyone has found a way to configure the LocalSessionFactoryBean to release connections after any transaction. • Model binding nested collections in ASP.NET MVC

  Hi I'm using Steve Sanderson's BeginCollectionItem helper with ASP.NET MVC 2 to model bind a collection if items. That works fine, as long as the Model of the collection items does not contain another collection. I have a model like this: -Product --Variants ---IncludedAttributes Whenever I render and model bind the Variants collection, it works jusst fine. • ListView items not clickable with HorizontalScrollView inside

  I have quite a complicated ListView. Each item looks something like this: > LinearLayout (vertical) > LinearLayout (horizontal) > include (horizontal LinearLayout with two TextViews) > include (ditto) > include (ditto) > TextView > HorizontalScrollView (this guy is my problem) > LinearLayout (horizontal) In my activity, when an item is created (getView() is called) I add dynamic TextViews to the LinearLayout inside the HorizontalScrollView (besides filling the other, simpler stuff out). Amazingly, performance is pretty good. My problem is that when I added the HorizontalScrollView, my list items became unclickable. They don't get the orange background when clicked and they don't fire the OnItemClickedListener I have set up (to do a simple Log.d call). How can I make my list items clickable again?

And guess what, I found two projects owned both by two very well known persons here: protobuf-csharp-port, written by Jon Skeet and protobuf-net, written by Mark Gravell. My question is simple: which one do I have to choose ? I quite like Mark's solution as it seems to me closer to C# philisophy (for instance, you can just add attributes to the properties of existing class) and it looks like it can support .NET built-in types such as System.Guid. I am sure both of them are really great projects but what's your oppinion?

  I converted a local sound file to a resource, which built this in my XAML: <UserControl.Resources> <my:Uri x:Key="SoundFiles">file:///c:/Audio/HebrewDemo/Shalom.wav</my:Uri> </UserControl.Resources> I did this by pasting a local disk mp3 filename into source, then clicked on the "dot" by source and chose "Extract Value to Resource". When I run, it tells me that "Uri" is not valid, and sure enough, in the Intellisense, I see other elements that start with "uri" but not just URI by itself. In the real world I want to specify a dynamic mp3 file name. For example, I might have a database of foreign language words used for flashcards, I want to play a sound file on a URL. But I thought I would try to walk before running...
