  • Storing user settings in table - how?

    I have settings for the user about 200 settings, these include notice settings and tracing settings from user activities on objects. The problem is how to store it in the DB? Should each setting be a row or a column? If colunm then table will have 200 colunms. If row then about 3 colunms but 200 rows per user x even 10 million users = not good. So how else can i store all these settings? NOTE: these settings are a mix of text entry and FK lookups to other tables. Thanks.

    I am trying to create a UIImageView called theImageView in the touchesBegan method that I can then then move to a new location in touchesMoved. Currently I am receiving an "undeclared" error in touchesMoved where I set the new location for theImageView.   • asp.net drop down list viewstate issue after client side Ajax update

    In my aspx page I have drop down list that initialy in page load event loads up with list of values which is shown to client(drop down list "A") and in client side, depending on client selecion of another drop down list(drop down list "B") I have written a javascript to update drop down list "A" with corresponding values with Ajax behaviour(without full page postback). But when we post page to the server, in server side page load event shows initialy sent list of values for drop down list "A" but not the values that were loaded by Ajax calls due to ViewState not being updated correctly due to Ajax call. I could fix this easily with update panel but it increased Ajax request size to 44KB which is much higher than what currently is for hand made Ajax script I have written( 0.5KB) Is there special way of fixing this rather than using update panel?

    Hi! This question follows this: handling to onchange event of AutoCompleteTextField in wicket I'm trying to use the AutoCompleteTextField with a custom class as the generic type, and to add an AjaxFormComponentUpdatingBehavior. What I mean is I want to have a AutoCompleteTextField<SomeClass> myAutoComplete = ...; and after that add a AjaxFormComponentUpdatingBehavior: myAutoComplete.add(new AjaxFormComponentUpdatingBehavior("onchange") { @Override protected void onUpdate(AjaxRequestTarget target) { System.out.println( "Value: "+getValue() ); } }); The problem is that for some reason, adding that behavior makes the form try to set the model object with a String (even though the AutoCompleteTextField has a generic type of SomeClass), causing a ClassCastException when the onchange event fires. Is there a way to use AutoCompleteTextField without it being AutoCompleteTextField<String>? I couldn't find any example.   • How can I ensure that JavaScript inserted via AJAX will be executed after the accompanying HTML (als

    I've got portions of pages being replaced with HTML retrieved via AJAX calls. Some of the HTML coming back has JavaScript that needs to be run once in order to initialize the accompanying HTML (setting up event handlers). Since the document has already been loaded, when I replace chunks of HTML using jQuery's .html function, having jQuery(document).ready(function() {...}); doesn't execute since the page loaded long before and this is just a snippet of HTML being replaced. What's the best way to attach event handlers whose code is packaged along with the HTML it's interested in, when that content is loaded via AJAX? Should I just put a procedural block of javascript after the HTML , so that when I insert the new HTML block, jQuery will execute the javascript immediately? Is the HTML definitely in the DOM and ready to be acted upon by JavaScript which is in the same .html call?

    I've been programming in C++ for a few years, and I've used STL quite a bit and have created my own template classes a few times to see how it's done. Now I'm trying to integrate templates deeper into my OO design, and a nagging thought keeps coming back to me: They're just a macros, really... You could implement (rather UGLY) auto_ptrs using #defines, if you really wanted to. This way of thinking about templates helps me understand how my code will actually work, but I feel that I must be missing the point somehow. Macros are meant evil incarnate, yet "template metaprogramming" is all the rage. So, what ARE the real distinctions? and how can templates avoid the dangers that #define leads you into, like Inscrutable compiler errors in places where you don't expect them? Code bloat? Difficulty in tracing code? Setting Debugger Breakpoints?

  • How do you stop a dynamically loaded form from submitting with jquery?

    I'm working on an AJAX login system. Right now, when the user clicks on a link, the login form is dynamically loaded when the person clicks on a "log in" link. Since I'm using AJAX for this, I want to prevent the form from actually submitting when the submit button is clicked. I tried the following code as part of my load function, and the form loads correctely, but the form still submits normally. $('#loginBox').load('loginform.php'); $('#loginBox form').submit(function(event) { event.preventDefault(); }); How can I fix this?

    I'm following a guide (http://www.jsparrowhawk.com/blog/?p=75) on how to use the As3IsoLib library. It seems his examples are a little erroneous at times. I'm at the part of creating a sprite, assigning it an image and then rendering.   • Soundboard app: Play sound as long as the user is pressing the button

    I am making a soundboard app and i am using sounds with over 30sec duration. I am playing the sound by connecting in IB my action with a "touch down" event, however the sound keeps playing once started. I connected in the some button a "touch cancel" & "touch up outside" event that is supposed to stop the sound but for some reason it doesn't.   • How to load an external swf to the main stage from an instanced child class?

    Hi, I am trying to get an instance of a class to the load an external swf and show it. So far I have the following: 1) I wrote a class that uses the Loader class to load an external swf "loadExtSWF". 2) I have a fla named "MainSWF.fla" that uses a document class "MainSWF.as". 3) I have the MainSWF.as file that instances "loadExtSWF" and calls loadExtSWF.startLoad to load the swf. This almost works. The instance of loadExtSWF loads the external swf, but the swf is not displayed. If I replace the fla's document class with loadExtSWF (this has an empty constructor) instead of MainSWF, and run loadExtSWF.startLoad, then the external swf is loaded and displayed. It seems that the way I initially do it, loads the swf to the wrong stage (?). Any ideas? Thanks for the help. Bye, RaamEE P.S.     Hi, I have followed some advices I got here today and would need a bit more help now: I have an user control with login logic. In mainForm I am using this: private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { LoginScreen login = new MainMenu(); login.Parent = this; login.Dock = DockStyle.Fill; login.Show(); } But I guess it is not modal and thus does not stop the original Form application. Sure I would need the main Form to do not continue until the login form is closed (and login sucessfull). Would using an event correct? Let login object to raise an event that login was successfull and let the MainForm handle it - run the app?

  • jQuery Mobile focus next input on keypress

    I have a jquery mobile site with a html form consisting of 4 pin entry input boxes. I want the user to be able to enter a pin in each input field without having to press the iphone keyboards "next" button. I have tried the following and although it appears to set the focus to the second input and insert the value, the keyboard disappears so the user still has to activate the required input with a tap event. $('#txtPin1').keypress(function() { $('#txtPin1').bind('change', function(){ $("#txtPin1").val($("#txtPin1").val()); }); $("#txtPin2").focus(); $("#txtPin2").val('pin2'); }); Is there a different event that I should be assigning to $("#txtPin2")?     I have a class, containing a list property, where the list contains objects that has an enum property. When I serialize this, it looks like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ibm850"?> <test> <events> <test-event type="changing" /> <test-event type="changed" /> </events> </test> Is it possible, through attributes, or similar, to get the Xml to look like this? <?xml version="1.0" encoding="ibm850"?> <test> <events> <changing /> <changed /> </events> </test> Basically, use the property value of the enum as a way to determine the tag-name? Is using a class hierarchy (ie. creating subclasses instead of using the property value) the only way? Edit: After testing, it seems even a class-hierarchy won't actually work. If there is a way to structure the classes to get the output I want, even with sub-classes, that is also an acceptable answer.   • jquery ajax calls with scope safety

    My gut tells me that if i am on a laggy server and the user fires two events fast enough on the success function c will be the value of the most recent event causing func1 to use the wrong value. <--- This is a guess, i haven't proved it. Its a feeling. How do i ensure that i use the right value when calling func1? I prefer not to send c to the server and i dont know if or how to serialize the data and deserialize it back.   • Objective-C property getter

    What is technically wrong with the following: @property(nonatomic, assign) NSUInteger timestamp; @property(nonatomic, readonly, getter = timestamp) NSUInteger startTime; @property(nonatomic, assign) NSUInteger endTime; I am sure I can find a better way to organise this, but this is what I ended up with at one point in my project and I noticed that accessing the startTime property always returned 0, even when the timestamp property was set to a correct timestamp. It seems having set the getter of startTime to an existing property (timestamp), it is not forwarding the value of timestamp when I do: event.startTime => 0 event.timestamp => 1340920893 All these are timestamps by the way. Just a reminder, I know the above should have happened in my project but I don't understand why accessing startTime doesn't forward onto timestamp property.   • Gridview inside UpdatePanel refresh

    I use a GridView to represent data from a table in my DB. the GridView has some template fields whose content are determined before displaying the Grid ( I use the RowDataBound event to determine content of template fields before displaying the GridView). The page displays a list of records from the table records and then, the recording process starts. after the process is over, the template fields should be updated. how do I automatically refresh the GridView after the process is finished ? it should be noted that the GridView is contained within an control and that I continuously poll the server using a Timer control that executes "GridView1.DataBind()" at the server level every 60 seconds. since the GridView is inside an UpdatePanel, calling DataBind() method on it doesn't seem to call the RowDataBound event. How can I solve this ?

    We would like under some circumstances to block the action of the close button in the title bar. The problem is that it's a MDI applications and it seems that we will have to add code in each forms to cancel the operation in the Closingevent handler. It seems that the child forms are the first to receive the event. There is no way to add code at a single place to cancel the close operation. Information on how the close event is propagated to the child form would be welcome. Is there a simple way of doing what we want to do?

    I'm using Flex 3.3, with hamcrest-as3 used to test for item membership in a list as part of my unit tests: var myList: IList = new ArrayCollection(['a', 'b', 'c']).list; assertThat(myList, hasItems('a', 'b', 'c')); The problem is that apparently the IList class doesn't support for each iteration; for example, with the above list, this will not trace anything: for each (var i: * in myList) { trace (i); } However, tracing either an Array or an ArrayCollection containing the same data will work just fine. What I want to do is (without having to tear apart my existing IList-based interface) be able to treat an IList like an Array or an ArrayCollection for the purposes of testing, because that's what hamcrest does: override public function matches(collection:Object):Boolean { for each (var item:Object in collection) { if (_elementMatcher.matches(item)) { return true; } } return false; } Is this simply doomed to failure? As a side note, why would the IList interface not be amenable to iteration this way? That just seems wrong.

  • Why I cannot access the properties of my Custom ComboBox

    Ok, I created a windows control project....dropped a comboBox on it, wrote some custom code that I wanted on its event ( Text Changed event, etc) ... I can also compile it and drop it on a new WinForms App... good. But in my sample WinForms app that I want to use it, I cannot access the properties of that combo box.. it does not list them .. properties like SelectedItems, etc... what Am I doing wrong? this is my first time creating a custom control tho. Currently I am displaying all the events in form of list from the file, As the file contains out dated events as well but I want to display on the basis of today's date events and a week events then week after. How would I go about doing this if it's even possible? Raw sql queries are good answers too because they're pretty easy to turn into DQL.

    I wanted to trace for all functions in an erlang module, with dbg:tpl, but one of the internal functions took up 95% of the trace file. I then wanted to exclude only that single function and found that it was not as easy as I thought it would be. I know there are great pattern matching possibilities for arguments when tracing. Is there a similar possibility to apply pattern matching for functions? eg.: {'=/=', '$2', function_name} I am open for outside-the-box solutions as well! Thank You!
