• NullPointerException in NetBeans 6.5 IDE itself

  When I use NetBeans for almost any task (in particular, attempting to open a project), a red minus sign in the bottom right corner of the IDE starts blinking and I get the following NullPointerException error when I click it. • Geocode multiple addresses

  I need to geocode around 200 addresses per request and do around 3,000 request per day. I will be doing this server side using PHP. I have looked at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/98449/how-to-convert-an-address-to-a-latlon, but could not find a way for either Google Maps HTTP Request API or the Yahoo Geocoding REST API (cannot use JavaScript as this is server side) to send multiple addresses. I will be primarily using this to sort addresses based on the coordinates and if the API supports, fill in any missing data for each address. The addresses will be in the United States only. The addresses to geocode will be from user input, so be free form, like "street address, postal code", or "city, state", etc. Accuracy is not too important for the coordinates, say within five hundred feet or so. Is there a free API to handle this? Is there a way to get Yahoo or Google to do multiple locations in a request?

  Hi, I have and old content database which i restored in my sharepoint 2007. But whenver i try to access web sites in my sharepoint i get error : 500 INTERNAL SERVER ERROR. I can see the old content database at :- Sharepoint Centre Admin-Application Management-Content databases. There is no difference in the version of the old content database. • Thread-safe data structure design

  Hello, I have to design a data structure that is to be used in a multi-threaded environment. The basic API is simple: insert element, remove element, retrieve element, check that element exists. The structure's implementation uses implicit locking to guarantee the atomicity of a single API call. After i implemented this it became apparent, that what i really need is atomicity across several API calls. For example if a caller needs to check the existence of an element before trying to insert it he can't do that atomically even if each single API call is atomic: if(!data_structure.exists(element)) { data_structure.insert(element); } The example is somewhat awkward, but the basic point is that we can't trust the result of "exists" call anymore after we return from atomic context (the generated assembly clearly shows a minor chance of context switch between the two calls). What i currently have in mind to solve this is exposing the lock through the data structure's public API. This way clients will have to explicitly lock things, but at least they won't have to create their own locks. Is there a better commonly-known solution to these kinds of problems? And as long as we're at it, can you advise some good literature on thread-safe design? EDIT: I have a better example. Suppose that element retrieval returns either a reference or a pointer to the stored element and not it's copy. How can a caller be protected to safely use this pointer\reference after the call returns? If you think that not returning copies is a problem, then think about deep copies, i.e. objects that should also copy another objects they point to internally. Thank you.

• Using Facebook Login to create a user?

  I've read this SO post which led me to this FB policy page, which seemed to include some pertinent information, but I'd like more of a community response, maybe some experienced FB API people who know the limits. My question is if I can use Facebook's Login api to, essentially, create a new user on my website. I really would just like to allow users to easily "transfer" some data from FB in order to more easily create a new account on my site. I realize, first and foremost, that I would obviously announce to the user that by click "submit" in the form, that they are creating a separate account on my site. Pertinent blocks on the policy page state: You may cache data you receive through use of the Facebook API in order to improve your application’s user experience, but you should try to keep the data up to date. This permission does not give you any rights to such data. Which doesn't look good for me, but also this: If you stop using Platform or we disable your application, you must delete all data you have received through use of the Facebook API unless: (a) it is basic account information; or (b) you have received explicit consent from the user to retain their data. Which, in my case, I would be satisfying part B. I would be asking the user's permission to retain the data, as I am simply using Facebook as a conveience to the user when creating an account. I also realize that Facebook has a registration API, but this would require a Facebook styled login form, along with my own sites login form, and I'd rather one interface, as this makes it easier for me on the front and back end. Any thoughts?

  I started to be more and more interested in the REST architecture style and client side development and I was thinking of using backbone.js on the client and a REST API (using ASP.NET Web API) for a little meeting management application. One of my requirements is that users with admin rights can edit meetings and other user can only see them. I was then wondering how to integrate the current user rights in the response for a given resource? My problem is beyond knowing if a user is authenticated or not, I want to know if I need to render the little 'edit' button next to the meeting (let's say I'm listing the current meetings in a grid) or not. Let's say I'm GETing /api/meetings and this is returning a list of meetings with their respective individual URI. How can I add if the user is able to edit this resource or not? This is an interesting passage from one of Roy's blog posts: A REST API should be entered with no prior knowledge beyond the initial URI (bookmark) and set of standardized media types that are appropriate for the intended audience (i.e., expected to be understood by any client that might use the API). From that point on, all application state transitions must be driven by client selection of server-provided choices that are present in the received representations or implied by the user’s manipulation of those representations It states that all transitions must be driven by the choices that are present in the representation. Does that mean that I can add an 'editURI' and a 'deleteURI' to each of the meeting i'm returning? if this information is there I can render the 'edit' button and if it's not there I just don't? What's the best practices on how to integrate the user's rights in the entity's representation? Or is this a super bad idea and another round trip is needed to fetch that information?

• Android - Looking for an AOP solution

  I'm writing an application that on the bottom line uses it's internal API for some manipulations. The problem is that to call any method provided by that class first I (or anybody who uses the API) have to call #prepare() and after that #cleanup(). It all worked fine until the application and the API started to grow. And the risk of not calling one of the supplied methods before or after the API is now to big to be ignored (which makes it a bug risky application). Searching for a solution I found this question. I use Google Guice in my app for other purposes, but Android doesn't support AOP, that's why a use only guice-no_aop-x.jar. So I end-up with two questions: Is there an AOP solution for android to implement the same approach that is shown in the link above? Or may be someone has an idea that will be suitable for my case?   Hey, I understand that using the facebook API I need an api key to connect, but I still don't understand how i would go about doing this, and how can i retrieve information upon users using the API (i'm only interested in retrieving the information that is publicly available e.g: username, birthdate, and other info that a specific user left public) I downloaded the facebook development kit, and tried adding the FacebookService control, but i don't get it... All the examples/samples i found on the internet are older than the version i have and therefore work a little different.. I am using the Codeigniter framework but I am not sure if the problem lies there. Also using %20 or just a space in the url bar produces no different results.   This question is an extension of a previous one I have asked. I have a table (2014_05_31_transformed.Video) with a schema that looks like this. I have put up the JSON returned by the BigQuery API describing it's schema in this gist. I am trying to create a view against this table with an API call that looks like this: { 'view': { 'query': u 'SELECT deleted_mod_time FROM [2014_05_31_transformed.Video]' }, 'tableReference': { 'datasetId': 'latest_transformed', 'tableId': u 'Video', 'projectId': 'redacted' } } But, the BigQuery API is returning this error: HttpError: https://www.googleapis.com/bigquery/v2/projects/124072386181/datasets/latest_transformed/tables?alt=json returned "Invalid field name "deleted_mod_time.usec". Fields must contain only letters, numbers, and underscores, start with a letter or underscore, and be at most 128 characters long." The schema that the BigQuery API does not make any distinction between a TIMESTAMP data type and a regular nullable INTEGER data type, so I can't think of a way to programmatically correct this problem. Is there anything I can do, or is this a bug with BigQuery's view implementation?

• Error creating Google Calendar

  Hi, I'm trying to use the Google Calendar Java API to create a secondary calendar for a Google apps user. The relevant code is: // Initialise the API client CalendarService googleCalendar = new GCalendarService("canimo.ca"); googleCalendar.setUserCredentials("[email protected]", "secret"); // Create the calendar CalendarEntry cal = new CalendarEntry(); cal.title = new PlainTextConstruct(user.email); cal.summary = new PlainTextConstruct("Collection calendar"); cal.timeZone = new TimeZoneProperty("America/Montreal"); cal.hidden = HiddenProperty.FALSE; googleCalendar.insert(CALENDAR_URL, calendar); The call to insert() above results in com.google.gdata.util.ServiceException: Internal Server Error and no calendar is created. If I try and perform the same operation through the Google calendar website, it also fails with the error message: We could not save changes. Please try again in a few minutes. An obvious conclusion is that there's some problem on Google's side, but this has been going on for several days now. Strangely, if I create a new user, everything works fine for a while. I can create calendars via the website, and download them via the API. But as soon as I try and create a new calendar using the API, I get the exception above, and thereafter can't create new calendars using either the website or the API. Thanks, Don

• Is is bad practice to put a period in a URI path?

  I am designing a REST API for a web application. I want to clearly version the API so that the interface can be changed in future without breaking existing services. So in my v1.0 API I want to clearly identify it as the v1.0 API, leaving me the freedom to release a future v1.1 version with breaking changes. My question is, would a period in the path component of a URI be bad practice? eg. Is there any good reason not to use http://mysite.com/myapi/v1.0/services as a URI to my service?

  Hi, I wanted to extract the Signer Informations from PKCS#7 Signed Code Image using C/CPP. I wanted to know the openssl API's. I am Able to extract Using bouncy castle (CMSSignedData). Please let me know the openssl API's which I can use in C/CPP to extract the each signers and signer informations and verify the Signers. is there any API like X509_LOOKUP_buffer() instead of X509_LOOKUP_file() ???
