• GNU make copy files to distro directory

  I keep my source html (and images etc.) in separate directories for source control. Part of making the distro is to have make copy files to output folder and set the attributes. Today my makefile shows (extract): %.html: /usr/bin/install -c -p -m 644 $< $@ www: $(HTMLDST)/firmware.html $(HTMLDST)/firmware_status.html $(HTMLDST)/index.html $(HTMLDST)/firmware.html: $(HTMLSRC)/firmware.html $(HTMLDST)/firmware_status.html: $(HTMLSRC)/firmware_status.html $(HTMLDST)/index.html: $(HTMLSRC)/index.html This is shown with only three html files, but in reality, there are lots. I would like to just list the filenames (without paths) and have make do the comparison between source and destination and copy the files that have been updated. Thank you in advance Søren

• How to create a web framework in C# without ASPX?

  I've managed to get a C# asp page running under ubuntu/apache/mono, but I don't want to write my framework in these ASP pages, I want to use straight C# and then I'll use a templating language for my views. But I don't know where to begin? C# is a compiled language, so... how would I do this? Would I compile everything and then have apache hook into the (single) executable and pass in the the request URL? Could I request specific .cs pages and then have apache tell it to compile and then "display" it only if it's been updated? Can the "view" files be compiled individually to avoid having to recompile everything every time there's a change? Is there some "base" I can work from, or am I going to have to reinvent accessing GET and POST variables (by reading header info) and all sorts of other stuff we take for granted in languages like PHP?

• ASP .NET MVC; return HTML along with JavaScript

  I have a partial view which renders a table. On page load, I am using JQuery to perform Zebra Stripping on it. Whenever ajax refreshes the table, DOM elements are updated, but since JQuery code to do the Zebra Stripping is not executed; table looks ugly. I have tried adding Javascript in my partial view if( Request.IsAjaxRequest() ) return PartialView( "AdministrationGrid", Users ); but javascript is not executed. I guess the only way to execute the Javascript as reply is to do: return JavaScript( "alert( '' )" ); Anyone with an idea how can I achieve this? I thought about JQuery Live, but it is used to bind itself to events.

• How to prevent a javascript/backbone.js cloned model from sharing attributes

  I'm working with backbone.js models, so I don't know if my question is particular to the way backbone handles cloning or if it applies to javascript in general. Basically, I need to clone a model which has an attribute property assigned an object. The problem is that when I update the parent or clone's attribute, the other model is also updated. Here is a quick example: var A = Backbone.Model.extend({}); var a = new A({'test': {'some': 'crap'}}); var b = a.clone(); a.get('test')['some'] = 'thing'; // I could also use a.set() to set the attribute with the same result console.log(JSON.stringify(a)) console.log(JSON.stringify(b)) which logs the following: {"test":{"some":"thing"}} {"test":{"some":"thing"}} I would prefer to clone a such that b won't be referencing any of its attributes.   The facts: When a file is moved, there's two possibilities: The source and destination file are on the same partition and only the file system index is updated The source and destination are on two different file system and the file need to be moved byte per byte. (aka copy on move) The question: How can I determine if a file will be either logically or physically moved ? I'm transferring large files (700+ megs) and would adopt a different behaviors for each situation. Edit: I've already coded a moving file dialog with a worker thread that perform the blocking io call to copy the file a meg at a time. It provide information to the user like rough estimate of the remaining time and transfer rate. The problem is: how do I know if the file can be moved logically before trying to move it physically ?

• Entity Framework - Using a lookup (picklist) table with a lookup key

  I'm working on a WPF application that is working well using the Entity Framework (3.5 SP1) for complicated table structures. The problem now is I want to get a list from the EF that includes lookups into a picklist table that has multiple picklists in it. In SQL I would write a sub select as such: SELECT Name, (Select typeName from PickLists where type_id = items.type_id and picklist_key=333) as Type_desc FROM Items There are no Foreign keys for this, and the picklists table is never updated using the EF, so it is read only as far as the EF is concerned. I'm not sure the best method to put this into the model if at all. I'm displaying in a read-only datagrid on a dashboard. Thanks!

• Update/Increment a single column on multiple rows at once

  I'm trying to add rows to a column, keeping the order of the newest column set to one, and all other rows counting up from there. In this case, I add a new row with order=0, then use this query to update all the rows by one. "UPDATE favorits SET order = order+1" However, what happens is that all the rows are updated to the same value. I get a stack of favorites, all with order 6 for example, when it should be one with 1, the next with 2 and so on. How do I update these rows in a way that orders them the way they should be?   For quite some time , I was reading about the optimistic concurrency in NHibernate. If what i understood was correct then the below sample should hold good. Consider two transactions T1 and T2. When T1 and T2 are done simultaneously , the state(DB entries) gets updated with the values of the most latest update.(T1 or T2). Though it seems to be conceptually sound , how do i simulate this for the purpose of understanding and integration testing.? Can someone help me with a sample c# code.? Thanks , vijay

  In my viewForAnnotation delegate, I create a MKAnnotationView with leftCalloutaccessory as a info button. When the info button is tapped, I want to replace it with a UIActivityIndicator. So in the calloutAccessoryTapped delegate, I wrote view.leftCalloutaccessoryView = [UIActivityIndicator indicatorWithStyle:UIActivityIndicatorWhite]; The callout accessory seems to change, but it seems like the view doesn't get updated immediately. That's when the callout accessory gets hidden (by tapping another pin) and is re-opened, I see a spinner. But otherwise, I don't. I tried calling [view setNeedsdisplay] and [view setNeedsLayout] and [view layoutsubviews] as well but in vain. Any suggestions/pointers?

  My app starts by presenting a tableview whose datasource is a Core Data SQLite store. When the app starts, a secondary thread with its own store controller and context is created to obtain updates from the web for data in the store. However, any resulting changes to the store are not notified to the fetchedresults controller (I presume because it has its own coordinator) and consequently the table is not updated with store changes. What would be the most efficient way to refresh the context on the main thread? I am considering tracking the objectIDs of any objects changed on the secondary thread, sending those to the main thread when the secondary thread completes and invoking "[context refreshObject:....] Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• How get Android 2.1 SDK to recognize new class: SignalStrength

  The new Android 2.1 SDK (version 7) has a new class called SignalStrength: http://developer.android.com/reference/android/telephony/SignalStrength.html I updated my SDK in Eclipse to include the 2.1 add-on, and now I am trying to use this new class. However, when I go to do an import android.telephony.SignalStrength, it can't find it. Do I have to somehow reset my project to refresh the SDK so it knows about the new libraries? How can I get it to recognize this new class? Thanks.

• I need git-svn to act as a Subversion v1.5+ client

  I'm running git 1.7 on Mac OSX, installed via Homebrew. I'm trying to use git svn to work with a Subversion server that requires Subversion 1.5 clients (a restriction enforced via a pre-commit hook.) Running git svn --version reveals that as far as git is concerned, git svn is equivalent to svn v1.4.4. I can't establish whether git svn is a total clone of subversion, and thus needs to be updated to meet subversion v1.5 functionality, or if git is compiled against or just points to some version of subversion under the hood. I've struggled finding anyone else trying to upgrade the version of git-svn, and I'm guessing this client version restriction is unusual, but I'm stuck with it (corporate environment.) Is it possible to have git operate as svn 1.5?

My understanding of how to implement Ajax with MVC is to use an Ajax.ActionLink which allows the content to be updated based on user interaction. I have an Ajax.ActionLink that looks like the following: <%= Ajax.ActionLink("Call Ajax", "Ajax", new AjaxOptions{UpdateTargetId = "updateDiv"}) %> If, in the controller, I return a string it works fine. However, when returning a PartialView instead, nothing happens. I can step through and verify that the controller is "returning" the partial view but nothing shows up in what I'm calling the updateDiv. How can I go about determining what the problem is?

• Combining Hg Commits Before Pushing?

  Let's say I am working on a feature branch cloned from an hg repository - I make some commits and then push the changes back to the repository as expected. However, is there any way to combine multiple commits into a single changeset for the push? For example, today I committed some changes and then remembered I hadn't updated the README file - which meant a 'single' set of changes actually consisted of 2 commits to my local repository. When I pushed these changes back to the original repository it would of been useful to combine the two as a single entity to save cluttering up the repository history.

• WebSVN install on IIS 6.0

  I am trying to set up WebSVN on a Windows Server 2003 machine and not having any luck. I have done the following: Installed FastCGI Installed PHP 5.3.1.0 to c:\PHP Updated php.ini with the following: cgi.force_redirect = 0 cgi.fix_pathinfo = 1 fastcgi.impersonate = 1 fastcgi.logging = 0 Downloaded and extracted WebSVN 2.3.0 to D:\myWebRoot\websvn Copy distconfig.php to config.php Added the following: $config-setSVNCommandPath('c:\Program Files\Subversion\bin'); $config-setDiffPath('C:\Program Files\FogBugz\accessories'); $config-addRepository('Documents', 'https://myServer/myDir/Docs)', null, 'myDocsUser', 'myDocsPassword'); When I browse to URL myServer//websvn, I get the following error: Error running this command: "c:\Program Files\Subversion\bin\svn" --version --config-dir /tmp Any ideas?

• NTPD issue - syncs then slowly loses ground

  RHEL 5 workstation. Has been running smoothly for years. I did a 'pup' recently and followed with a nice, cleansing reboot. Afterwards the system had some startup issues: namely MySQL refused to start. It just went "...." for 5-10 minutes before I did another boot and skipped that step (using 'interactive'). This was the only service that didn't wan't to start normally. So now that the system is booted I've found that it doesn't want to stay in sync with the NTP master and after 48 hours is refusing any SSH other than root. NTPD: this service starts normally and gets a lock on 4 servers. Almost immediately it starts to lose ground and now (after 3 days) is almost 40 hours behind. If I stop/start the service it gets the lock, resets the system clock and starts losing ground again. The 'hwclock' is set properly and maintains its time. Login: when I (re)start the ntp server I am able to login normally. I assume this problem is due to losing sync with LDAP. This appears to be verified by LDAP errors in /var/log/messages. Suggestions on where to look? ADDENDA: Tried deleting the 'drift' file. • Stable random color algorithm

  Here we have an interesting real-world algorithm requirement involving colors. 1) Nice random colors: In ordeeing to draw a beautifull chart (i.e: pie chart) we need to pick a random set of Colors that: a) are different enought b) Play nicely Doesnt Look hard. For example u fix bright and saturation and divide hue in steps of 360/Num_sectors 2) Stable: given Pie1 with sectors with labes ('A','B','C') and Pie2 with sector with labels ('B','C','D'), will be nice if color('B',pie1)= color('B',pie2) and the same for 'C' and so on, so people don't get crazy when seeing similar updated charts, even if some sectors appear some dissapeared or the number of sectors changed. The label is the only stable thing. 3) hard-coded colors: the algorithm allows hardcoded label-color relationships as an input but stills doing a good work (1 & 2) for the rest of free labels. I think this algorithm, even if it looks quite ad-hoc, will be usefull in more then one situation. Any ideas?

• Linq2SQL using Update StoredProcedure

  We use queries generated by Linq for data retrieval but for INSERT and UPDATE we do not allow generated SQL, but restrict to the use of stored procedures. I connected the Update and the Insert behaviour in the DBML to the stored procedures. The procedures are called, the data gets inserted/updated = all if fine, except in the case of optimistic concurrency. If a record was changed between retrieval and update, the update should fail. When Linq generates the Update statement itself, it throws a ChangeConflictException as expected, but using the stored procedure no Exception is thrown. Thanks a lot for any help on this!

• Flex Datagrid editing cells in same row not firing collection change event

  Hi, I am using the flex datagrid to allow the user to edit some data. My update process relies on a CollectionEvent of type update. Basically I catch this event package the values and update the database. However, if the user edits a cell then moves to edit a cell in the same row the value is updated but a collection event is not fired. Only when clicking out of the row the event is fired. Has anyone had experience with this. I have heard the datagrid is a little quirky is this one of those quirks or am I doing this all wrong? Any help appreciated.

• Java EE 6 - ordering Servlet Request Listeners

  Hi all, I finally updated to Java EE 6 (web profile) and would like to control the ordering of my servlet request listeners. I did that before through the XML ordering by listing the listeners in a particular order. Now, I have placed the @WebListener annotation on the classes which are listeners and am trying to figure out how to order the listeners such that they work properly. One must run before another one, otherwise, it won't have the information it needs and won't work. Also, it doesn't seem my listeners are actually being invoked even though they're marked with @WebListener. I am running embedded glassfish 3.0. Another question that is somewhat related - ServletRequestListeners in Java EE 6 by default are still synchronous meaning they're hit first, then servlet filters, right? ServletRequestListeners are not asynchronous where they merely get notified of an event without interrupting the execution? Walter

• Django 1.2 object level permissions - third party solutions?

  Since Django 1.2 final is almost out, I am curious if there are already projects that use the new object level permissions / row level permissions system. [django-authority][1] which is a possible solution for Django up to 1.1 has not been updated for a while, and does not (yet) use the new permissions system. It seems to me that Django-Authority is in a comatose state. Does someone know about upcoming or maybe even finished solutions?
