• Access JavaScript variables with Selenium IDE

  I'm wondering if it's possible to access page JavaScript variables with Selenium. I have an application that's using a variable attached to the window object. It has a global scope and I can access it either with window._myvar, window['_myvar'], _myvar, this['_myvar'], this._myvar depending on the context. So I tried to get Selenium to echo it. As far as I understand, in Selenium IDE the context in which everything runs is selenium. I tried doing this.browserbot.getCurrentWindow()._myvar, this.browserbot.getCurrentWindow()[_myvar] to no avail. I get bumped with the following error Unexpected Exception: message -> eval(match[1]) is undefined. Anyone managed to access their page's JavaScript?

• Android: How to copy a SQLite database from one application to another

  I have a lite version of an application that uses a SQLite database. I want to copy that database over to the full version of the application when the user installs the full version. I have written some code to perform the file copy, but the lite database file always comes up as unreadable. The file is there and I can point to it, but I can't read it to perform the copy. In the Android documentation, we read: You can save files directly on the device's internal storage. By default, files saved to the internal storage are private to your application and other applications cannot access them (nor can the user). Note the words, "by default". Is there a way that I can override that default and make the SQLite file readable by my other application? Thank you.

  I have previously installed WAMP on my windows, and now I am trying to install Zend Server 5 CE 5.3.1 Win x86. During the installation of Zend Server, there is a step asking about: web server port : 80 zend server interface port : 10081 I kept to the default. After the installation, I tried to access http://localhost,and is able to see zend test page. But I am unable to access http://localhost:10081/ZendServer, it was stated as page not found. Is it a conflict of my WAMP and the Zend Server? I remembered stopping the apache for WAMP, before trying to access ZS. Could anyone please advise me how to fix it? Thank you.

  I know implementing database is a huge topic, but I want to have a basic understanding of how database systems work (e.g. memory management, binary tree, transaction, sql parsing, multi-threading, partitions, etc) by investigating the source code of the database. Since there are a few already proven very robust open source databases like mysql, sqlite and so on. However, the code are very complicated and I have no clue where to start. Also I find that the old school database textbooks are only explaining the theory, not the implementation details. Can anyone suggest how I should get started and if there are any books that emphasis on the technology and techniques of building dbms used in modern database industry?

  Howdy, I have a database I am using the Visual Studio 2010 Database Project tool vsdbcmd.exe to create a schema from. vsdbcmd /a:Import /dsp:Sql /model:"Database" /cs:"Server=SqlServer; Initial Catalog=DatabaseName; Integrated Security=SSPI;" The tool is reporting an error: Error TSD02016, Gen-259 (12,50) The column name is not valid. No table name was specified. How would I go about pinpointing where this error is originating? I have found one resource on the internet (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com....) that points to a possibility of a keyword used incorrectly, but the error messages are not the same. What is Gen-259? But in the lifetime of .NET I have to admit I've never actually had a situation where CAS has actually blocked something to my benefit. I have, however, had many times where something as simple as sharing a quick .NET application across a mapped drive becomes an enterprise code access nightmare. Having to break out caspol.exe to create trusted path rules and having no clear way of knowing why something failed makes it seem like CAS adds way more frustration to the development and deployment process than it offers in security. I'd like to hear either some situations where CAS has actually helped more than hurt, or if there are other people out there frustrated with its current implementation and defaults.

• Handling database failover for Rails applications on FreeBSD

  I'm working on implementing database (Postgresql) failover for a Rails app that runs with Passenger/FreeBSD. Due to certain constraints regarding the server OS, it's necessary to continue using FreeBSD (as opposed to say, Ubuntu). I'm finding it to be quite a challenge to have failover handled within the Rails application, by way of a customised database adapter due to the fact that this application will be load-balanced between several webservers, and the multiple Rails processes that Passenger spawned in each webserver. I previously looked at setting up Pacemaker/Corosync to manage database server failover on a common IP but unfortunately I wasn't able to get past building the packages on FreeBSD. It does work rather well on Ubuntu 10.04 but I'm not likely to be able to use Ubuntu due to the OS constraints. I'm considering a custom witness daemon that simply pings the primary DB server, and this witness daemon switches all the webservers to the standby DB server when the primary becomes uncontactable (permanently/temporarily), to avoid split-brain. Though I would really like to know if there is a way to get Pacemaker(or something similar) to do the switch on FreeBSD.

And in this client class I have methods with signature like: public ResponseType InvokeMethod(RequestType request). I want to change its access modifier to protected, but then web service responds with "web service method name is not valid" exception. Do You know why is that so? I understand that maintaining method name can be important for some reasons, but why can't I change this access modifier? Shouldn't it be a matter of my code what access I want to give to this method? Thanks for all the answers in advance.

• Godaddy ASPNET membership database woes -- PLEASE HELP

  Ok heres the deal I purchased a windows shared hosting account on godaddy that came with 2 MSSQL databases. I setup one to hold my site data and the other installed aspnet membership schema to store site members. The site works perfectly even displaying data from the 1st database. However when I try to login or register I get this nasty error Exception Details: System.Configuration.Provider.ProviderException: The SSE Provider did not find the database file specified in the connection string. At the configured trust level (below High trust level), the SSE provider can not automatically create the database file. Ive gone through my web.config and theres nothing wrong with my 2 connection strings. It seems godaddy has a problem with using 2 mssql databases simultaneously when 1 is for membership. Googling just finds a whole lot of people with the same problem -- but no solutions! Does anyone know a solution or a workaround?...or has anyone ever successfully used 2 databases(1 for membership) on godaddy?

  Hello All This is my first post here. I have a rails server I'm running on a dedicated server that I have jail shell access to. I can start up a rails server and access it just fine using the text-based browser elinks running in that jail shell using both internal and public IP's. However, I cannot access the rails server from outside that chrooted environment. Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be going on? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

• AD-Integrated DNS failure: "Access was Denied"

  I have a single Windows 2008 R2 server configured as a domain controller with Active Directory Domain Services and DNS Server. The DNS Server was recently uninstalled and reinstalled in an attempt to fix a (possibly unrelated) problem; the event log was previously flooded with errors (#4000, "The DNS Server was unable to open Active Directory...") which reinstalling did not fix. However, while before it was at least showing and resolving names from the local network (slowly), now it's showing nothing at all. (The original error started with a #4015 error "The DNS server has encountered a critical error from the Active Directory," followed by a long string of #4000 and a few #4004. This may have been caused when a new DNS name was recently added, but I can't be sure of the timing.) Attempting to manage the DNS through Administrative Tools > DNS brings up an error: The server SERVERNAME could not be contacted. The error was: Access was denied. Would you like to add it anyway? Selecting yes just puts a SERVERNAME item on the list, but with all the configuration options grayed out. I attempted editing my hosts file as per this post but to no avail. Running dcdiag, it does identify the home server properly, but fails right away testing connectivity with: Starting test: Connectivity The host blahblahblahyaddayaddayadda could not be resolved to an IP address. Check the DNS server, DHCP, server name, etc. Got error while checking LDAP and RPC connectivity. Please check your firewall settings. ......................... SERVERNAME failed test Connectivity Adding the blahblahblahyaddayaddayadda address to hosts (pointing at 127.0.0.1), the connectivity test succeeded but it didn't seem to solve the fundamental problem (Access was denied) so I hashed it out again. Primary DNS server is properly pointing at 127.0.0.1 according to ipconfig /all. And the DNS server is forwarding requests to external addresses properly (if slowly), but the resolving of local network names is borked. The DNS database itself is small enough that I am (grudgingly) able to rebuild it if need be, but the DNS Server doesn't seem willing to let me work with (or around) it at all. (and yes before you ask there are no system backups available) Where do I go from here? • manage.py not updating database name

  I have a Django application, and I recently changed the name of the database it is supposed to use. However, manage.py doesn't seem to be using the new database. I've doublechecked the settings.py file, and I've even added a "print settings.DATABASE_NAME" to the manage.py file, and it prints out the correct name, but still connects to the old database. For example, using ./manage.py dbshell: NewDB Password for user : Welcome to psql 8.1.11, the PostgreSQL interactive terminal. OldDB=> So as far as I can see, it's completely ignoring what's in the settings file. What could be causing this?

• Strategies to use Database Sequences?

  Hello all, I have a high-end architecture which receives many requests every second (in fact, it can receive many requests every millisecond). The architecture is designed so that some controls rely on a certain unique id assigned to each request. To create such UID we use a DB2 Sequence. Right now I already understand that this approach is flawed, since using the database is costly, but it makes sense to do so because this value will also be used to log information on the database. My team has just found out an increase of almost 1000% in elapsed time for each transaction, which we are assuming happened because of the sequence. Now I wonder, using sequences will serialize access to my application? Since they have to guarantee that increments works the way they should, they have to, right? So, are there better strategies when using sequences? Please assume that I have no other way of obtaining a unique id other than relying on the database.

• Slow SQLite access on iPhone

  I have a quite slow data retrieval from a sqlite database on my iPhone and perhaps someone have an alternative idea to explain this. From what I tracked down so far sqlite3_step(statement) is sometimes unusually slow. While retrieving e.g. 50 rows from the database to execute this step takes normally some milliseconds but sometimes it takes several seconds. My database is not small (80MB) and my theory is that the reason is paging. But can someone else think of an other reason for this?

  Basically, I want to translate the following into Seaside Smalltalk: $(".myDiv").bind('click', function(e) { console.log(e); }); Besides that I don't want to console.log the event, but access it in my ajax callback. The most promising approach seemed to be something like html div onClick: (html jQuery ajax callback: [:v | self halt] value: (???); with: 'Foo'. But I couldn't find any way to access the event that caused the callback. Intuitively, I would try html jQuery this event for the ??? part, but the Seaside jQuery wrapper doesn't know any message that comes close to event. Any help is appreciated. There has to be away to access the event data...

• Polymorphism in SQL database tables?

  I currently have multiple tables in my database which consist of the same 'basic fields' like: name character varying(100), description text, url character varying(255) But I have multiple specializations of that basic table, which is for example that tv_series has the fields season, episode, airing, while the movies table has release_date, budget etc. Now at first this is not a problem, but I want to create a second table, called linkgroups with a Foreign Key to these specialized tables. That means I would somehow have to normalize it within itself. One way of solving this I have heard of is to normalize it with a key-value-pair-table, but I do not like that idea since it is kind of a 'database-within-a-database' scheme, I do not have a way to require certain keys/fields nor require a special type, and it would be a huge pain to fetch and order the data later. So I am looking for a way now to 'share' a Primary Key between multiple tables or even better: a way to normalize it by having a general table and multiple specialized tables.

• What is a good Visio Enterprise Architect replacement?

  I've been using Visio 2002/2003 Enterprise Architect to do my database schema design visually and then forward-generate the DDL to create the database. I wanted to switch to Visio 2007, but while it does have database diagramming support, it doesn't have the ability to generate DDL. Bummer. I am really disappointed because it seems like Microsoft has completely abandoned this feature. You can't do it in Visual Studio (that I've found). You can sorta do it with SQL Server Management Studio if you insert database diagrams into your database, but any edits to the schema immediately take effect. Has anyone found a good program to do this? I'm hoping to find one that is free and can generate DDL/SQL for SQL Server.

  Scenario I've got an application written in C# that needs to dump some data every minute to a database. Because its not me that has written the spec, I have been told to store the data as XML in the SQL Server database and NOT TO USE the "bulk upload" feature. Essentially I just wanted to have a single stored procedure that would take XML (that I would produce from my datatable) and insert it into the database.....and do this every minute. Current Situation I've heard about the use of "Sp_xml_preparedocument" but I'm struggling to understand most of the examples that I've seen (My XML is far narrower than my C Sharp ability). Question I would really appreciate someone either pointing me in the direction of a worthwhile tutorial or helping explain things. EDIT - Using (SQL Server 2005)

When i debug the code it says database path "out of scope" on the break point and it does not compile the statement. • Cant access log files in production.

  I was trying to run my application and check for some output on the production.log. However Rails throws this error. Apache log Rails Error: Unable to access log file. Please ensure that /var/www/somefolder/someapp/log/production.log exists and is chmod 0666. The log level has been raised to WARN and the output directed to STDERR until the problem is fixed. I have performed the necessary chmod 666 production.log to make it work but I realized that the file is under root access. So my file permissions are -rw-rw-rw- 1 root root 20845 2010-03-18 01:18 production.log Im not sure how to allow Rails to access this file. Im fairly new to managing linux production env so I request you to excuse my ignorance.
