  • Does hosting multiple sites on one server hurt your SEO?

    I have a handful of (content unrelated) sites with decent PRs and I'm considering hosting them all on the same server. I've heard that if you do this, internal linking between two seperate domains on that server may be seen as less "valid" by Google in PageRank terms (since you obviously own both of the sites as they share an IP address). Anyone have any experience in this? I'd love to save some hosting cash by consolidating, but not at the expense of losing the ability to link my sites together powerfully.

  • How to set multiple subdomains in the host file (DNS)?

    I have a lot of subdomains in the main domain xxx.zzz So, for this domain, I can have aaa.xxx.zzz bbb.xxx.zzz ccc.xxx.zzz ddd.xxx.zzz eee.xxx.zzz ....ETC.... Istead of adding each subdomain in the host file, I would like to add only the main domain xxx.zzz and then to be able to access all the subdomains. I have tryed with *.xxx.zzz but apparently, this will not work (Linux or Windows). Any idea is welcome. Thank you very much.

    I get a XLS-File as a database report. The File is in the following format: | Customer | Name | ... | Orders 1 | 6 | ... | ... | 1234 2 | | | | 4567 3 | | | | 8910 4 | 3 | ... | ... | 3210 5 | | | | 8765 6 | 1 | ... | ... | 1000 7 | | | | 1001 I need to sort this thing on a column which is only "filled" in the first line of a "record" (here: Line 1-3, 4+5, 6+7) like "Customer" in this example. Is there a way (without falling back to VBA) to keep the lines together which form a "record" while sorting on them. I know, this is abusing Excel but I have no other choise here. The expected output after sorting on "Customer" would be: | Customer | Name | ... | Orders 1 | 1 | ... | ... | 1000 2 | | | | 1001 3 | 3 | ... | ... | 3210 4 | | | | 8765 5 | 6 | ... | ... | 1234 6 | | | | 4567 7 | | | | 8910

  • IIS 7 Application Pools using a different amount of memory on multiple servers behind a load balancer

    We have 6 servers in a web farm behind an F5. There are approximately 25 AppPools on each of these servers. On servers 1 - 5 the apppools are consuming approx 500MB Private Bytes, and 5GB Virtual Bytes. On server 6 the apppools are consuming approx 800MB Private Bytes, and 8GB Virtual Bytes. I can not seem to figure out why we have this difference. The code is the exact same on each box. We replicate the apphost.config between the boxes, so the Appplication Configs are identical. The only difference seems to be that this box consumes more RAM, and in turn ends up using a lot more CPU. During Black Friday we observed the CPU on server 6 spiking to 100% and noticed that the % Memory Commit was also near 100%, while the rest of the farm was at closer to 50% utilization. Pulling the 6th server from the load balancer dropped CPU/Memory on the 6th server back to normal, and did not cause a noticeable strain on the other servers.

  • Is there a find and replace application with multiple rules?

    I'm looking for a search and replace tool that takes a list of rules and either a file (or directory) and runs those rules on the files. I have a bunch of different things that need to be changed in many files, and I'd like to be able to run all the rules in one shot. I was hoping I could put the rules separate file, and use the same set of rules over and over again. Does such a tool exist?

  • SQL Server 2005 Disk Configuration: Single RAID 1+0 or multiple RAID 1+0s?

    Assuming that the workload for the SQL Server is just a normal OLTP database, and that there are a total of 20 disks available, which configuration would make more sense? A single RAID 1+0, containing all 20 disks. This physical volume would contain both the data files and the transaction log files, but two logical drives would be created from this RAID: one for the data files and one for the log files. Or... Two RAID 1+0s, each containing 10 disks. One physical volume would contain the data files, and the other would contain the log files. The reason for this question is due to a disagreement between me (SQL Developer) and a co-worker (DBA). For every configuration that I've done, or seen others do, the data files and transaction log files were separated at the physical level, and were placed on separate RAIDs. However, my co-workers argument is that by placing all the disks into a single RAID 1+0, then any IO that is done by the server is potentially shared between all 20 disks, instead of just 10 disks in my suggested configuration. Conceptually, his argument makes sense to me. Also, I've found some information from Microsoft that seems to supports his position. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc966414.aspx In the section titled "3. RAID10 Configuration", showing a configuration in which all 20 disks are allocated to a single RAID 1+0, it states: In this scenario, the I/O parallelism can be used to its fullest by all partitions. Therefore, distribution of I/O workload is among 20 physical spindles instead of four at the partition level. But... every other configuration I've seen suggests physically separating the data and log files onto separate RAIDs. Everything I've found here on Server Fault suggests the same. I understand that a log files will be write heavy, and that data files will be a combination of reads and writes, but does this require that the files be placed onto separate RAIDs instead of a single RAID?

  • Can you have multiple PHP 5.x versions with cPanel 11.3x?

    I've been Googling around for a while on this one but I haven't found a good answer yet! Is it possible to set up cPanel 11.3x so that it can run different versions of PHP 5.x (e.g. 5.2, 5.3 and later on 5.4) for each of the configured apache vhosts / domains? It would be great to do this either using .htaccess, php.ini or a setting within cPanel itself. I've seen EasyApache 3 mentioned in the documentation but even after reading through several times I haven't seen a definitive yes or no for whether this is possible - please let me know if you need any more info.     My two tables are titled analyzed and analyzedCopy3. I'm trying to put information from analyzedCopy3 into multiple columns in analyzed. Sample data from analyzedCopy3: readings_miu_id OriginalCol ColRSSIz 110001366 Frederick Road -108 110001366 Steel Street 110001366 Fifth Ave. 110001508 Steel Street -104 What I want to do is put the top 3 OriginalCol, ColRSSIz combinations into columns that I have in the table analyzed. In analyzed there is only one record for each unique readings_miu_id. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Additional Info: By "top 3 OriginalCol, ColRSSIz combinations" I mean the first 3 combinations with the highest value in the ColRSSIz column. For any readings_miu_id there could be anywhere from 1 row of information to 6 rows of information. So at most I'm only wanting the top 3. If there is less than 3 rows for the readings_miu_id then the other columns need to be blank.   • Is it preferable to use POP or IMAP to check multiple google mail accounts from one?

    I have email accounts on several domains that use Google Mail, and thus far I've only ever used POP to send and receive mail from a single inbox. This is quite functional, and as long as I remember to select the appropriate FROM address when starting a new thread, mostly works without any additional thought: messages received on account A are replied to via account A, and so on. My only complaint is the lag -- I've seen sometimes as much as a half hour between messages arriving in an inbox before being imported into my primary inbox via POP. My question is this: Google also supports IMAP. Would that be in any way preferable over POP access? Reduced lag would be nice, but not at a general speed cost, if everything I do has to check another mailbox too.

  • How best to automatically deal with multiple site_ruby locations?

    Is there a way to automatically append to $: variable in ruby to account for additional site_ruby locations? Ruby is installed in /usr/local/ and using gem_install will properly install the new ruby files in to /usr/local/lib/ruby/site_ruby. However there are some RPMs for ruby bindings to tools like shadow which we'd like to install and they install to /usr/lib/ruby/site_ruby (no local). Is there a standard way to tell ruby that this directory should also be included by default? I know scripts could dynamically update $: or they could be called with -I but it seems like this is something that should be handled in the install. Has anyone else found a clean way around this kind of problem? thanks, chuck

  • How can I get all my itunes files from multiple computers onto my new PC?

    Managing my itunes files (music,video,tv shows, iphone apps) is a really hard task and I have not had much luck yet. If I had a single PC for the rest of my life with the same hard drive, it would work great but infortunately it cannot be that simple. I just build a new PC as my old hard drive crashed with all my itunes purchased songs, video, etc. So is there anyway to get itunes to recognize that I own all them and let me re-download everything? As I see it so far, it knows what I own by my itunes account login (it knows if I purchased a file or not ever) but does not seem to let you just re-download everything to a new PC or new hard drive. I realize I should of had backups but I didn't. My backup plan is a work in process and it is getting much better but that doesnt help with my situation at the moment. So I am asking for any help, ideas of how to retrieve all my previous itunes purchases?

    in iTerm, you can send a command to execute simultaneously on a set of already opened tabs. Is there a way to do this in linux (with gnome-terminal preferably)? for instance, supposed that I had 10 tabs already ssh'd into [email protected] and sudoed to root and wanted to send a command to run on all 10 tabs. The goal of this is to be able to stay within a set of tabs and command them, rather than having to use expect scripts to ssh and elevate and run commands. Basically, like how you could do in iTerm.

  • How to read from multiple queues in real-world?

    Here's a theoretical question: When I'm building an application using message queueing, I'm going to need multiple queues support different data types for different purposes. Let's assume I have 20 queues (e.g. one to create new users, one to process new orders, one to edit user settings, etc.). I'm going to deploy this to Windows Azure using the 'minimum' of 1 web role and 1 worker role. How does one read from all those 20 queues in a proper way? This is what I had in mind, but I have little or no real-world practical experience with this: Create a class that spawns 20 threads in the worker role 'main' class. Let each of these threads execute a method to poll a different queue, and let all those threads sleep between each poll (of course with a back-off mechanism that increases the sleep time). This leads to have 20 threads (or 21?), and 20 queues that are being actively polled, resulting in a lot of wasted messages (each time you poll an empty queue it's being billed as a message). How do you solve this problem?

    I can't seem to find this anywhere... it may not even be possible without coding? I have a spreadsheet containing more than one heading in a single column. These headings are identified with blue background and white font. Each of these headings have items listed below them. These "subheadings" are smaller, auto-black font and no fill background. Currently I have to scroll down the spreadsheet to view all headers and their contents. How do I create a filter that would allow me to sort on whichever header I want, so that (only) the contents of that particular header are displayed?

  • Can you span a single file share across multiple servers?

    Let's say I have one large file server that has a company-wide share. That file server constantly runs into space issues. Now let's say I have a dozen or so random servers (print servers, web servers, etc) that have a ton of free space. Is there a way to utilize that in the company-wide file share? Like spanning the storage across different servers but making that transparent to the user? I know the likely answer is going to be get more storage for the file server, but I just curious if this is conceptually possible. Thanks!

    Hi all and thanks in advance. I'll start with some background. I live in an apartment which provides internet service included in the rent. They use company called pavlov for the internet http://pavlovmedia.net/ wireless seems to be working fine but wired connection is at least %30 faster. Ethernet, cat5 outlet is built in the wall, and there is only 1 outlet in each room. I would like to take this 1 outlet coming out the wall and multiply it into 4 wires, for desktop, playstation, tv and laptop without loosing any internet bandwidth. i have absolutely no idea weather this line is coming from a switch or a router but i have been researching Ethernet splitter, routers, switches, hubs and haven't found a solid answer. what is the best solution for me? thank you once again!     In 0-th approximation I have a class class MyClass{ public: ... std::ostream & getOStream(){return f;} private: ofstream f; ... }; Which is used sometimes in the following way: MyClass myclass; myclass.getOStream()<<some<<information<<printed<<here; But now I want to change the class MyClass, so that information will be printed both to f and to std::out, i.e. I want the above line to be equivalent to myclass.f<<some<<information<<printed<<here; std::cout<<some<<information<<printed<<here; I don't know any good way to do that. Do you? Is there any standard solution (for example in stl or in boost)? P.S. I tried to search on this, but it seems that I don't know good keywords. Words multiple, output, ostream, C++, boost seem to be too general.
