• What's the fastest desktop search tools you've used on Windows?

  What do you use to search folders with 1000s of files. Surely not WinExplorer's default search and filter on Vista? If possible, something accessible from within the explorer shell.   I'm looking for a tool that is able to (remotely) monitor CPU and Memory in a Windows server but most importantly, which service/process is using it. Or-- is it possible to monitor a specific running service? We got a server that freezes on regular basis and we're trying to find the culprit without using a local debugger. Would be great if the monitoring software came with an agent that we can install on the remote clients for maximum accuracy. Any suggestions are very much appreciated.

  I'm getting repeated errors in my console log that look (basically) like this: 10-09-29 10:06:08 AM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[51581]) getpwuid("501") failed 10-09-29 10:06:08 AM com.apple.launchd[1] (com.apple.launchd.peruser.501[51581]) Exited with exit code: 1 This machine was set up using the migration assistant, from a machine where my UID was 501, but here it's 505. I have the same username and group set, of course, but... So, where is this peruser launchd tool configured, so that I can disable the daemons that are causing this error message?

  Is there a command line tool that will simply evaluate a cron expression and return a bool response if it is supposed to be running right now? I'm looking for something I can use as a utility in another bash script.   On Windows Server 2008 R2, my IT administrator has installed a certificate using the windows certificate management tool. The certificate is for *.thedomain.com. He set it up as not exportable for security reasons: I'm not suposed to be able to put my hands on the certificate. This configuration would allow me to use the certificate with microsoft products, but not to go away with the certificate. Q: It there a way to configure Apache 2 to use this certificate "the windows way"?

  Is there any DirectX diagnostcs tool which will allow me to understand if Graphics acceleration from my GPU is actually working or software rendering is kicking-in instead? I ask this because If I go properties (right click on desktop) -- settings -- I get an error saying my drivers are not working for my Intel Embedded GPU (Intel Embedded Graphics Driver - IEGD) and the system is defaulting to standard VGA drivers. • New laptop battery: 80% capacity [migrated]

  I have got an old laptop (HP Pavilion DV2000, 5.5 years old) and I just bought a new battery for it (10,8V 5200mAh 6 Cells) probably not an original one. When I charged it full the first time, it reached a capacity (as see through the Ubuntu 12.04 Power Statistics tool) of 80%. After 3 full cycles, it's at 79.5%. Do you think it is normal, or the battery may be damaged (and I can complain with the vendor)?

• Why is my SharePoint people search WorkEmail property blank?

  I have an SSP setup for my site and I am trying to get the presence bubble working correctly. However, I cannot get the people search core results webpart to display the workemail. I have output the raw xml into my people search core results xslt and used the SharePoint Query Web Service Test Tool to try and find values for these properties, but they are appearing blank (including sipAddress and HighConfidenceDisplayProperty11). Note: The presence bubble does work when hard coded to users email address, so the problem is absolutely to do with the search results.

• MCollective alternative?

  I really want to run MCollective on my fleet of servers however there are a large number of untrusted users on each machine which makes using MCollective not ideal in my eyes. I'm aware that there is some things you can do to take precaution but I'm not familiar enough with ActiveMQ / want something that's a bit more mindful of similar environments to mine outside the box.
