• Meta Refresh for change of page name and content

  Hopefully just a quick one. I've got a client that is changing the name of a workshop that they run. This means a change of url, page title for keywords that they have first page ranking on. The keywords are still relevant so what I want to avoid is a 301 redirect to a page that has different keywords to the previous page. Is the best option to keep the old page live with url and title and use a meta refresh to redirect after a period of time (not instant)? That way the SEO ranking is retained for the previous workshop name while they work on the ranking for the name change? Would a 301 redirect have an inverse effect? Thanks!

• Should I change the name in the WTFPL?

  I'm using the WTFPL in my personal projects published on GitHub. Currently I'm using it verbatim, but I have the suspicion I shouldn't be leaving Copyright (C) 2004 Sam Hocevar <[email protected]> in there, and instead should use my name. But the license is very confusing about this. Half of the WTFPL is about the WTFPL itself, so I thought that copyright might refer to a copyright on the license text itself, and not on the project this is licensing. Also, it says Everyone is permitted to copy and distribute verbatim or modified copies of this license document, and changing it is allowed as long as the name is changed. So would I have to change the name, from WTFPL to, say, "WTFPL-Domenic"?

  I have someone i'm making a website for with a domain name and current website hosted at fasthosts. I've built them a website hosted at a different host, unlimitedwebhosting. The website i've made them is in a directory like this. www.mysite.com/dev/0002 So fasthosts: Is the registrar for the domain name, it also has all of the email addresses and their current site. unlimitedwebhosting: Has the new site in a sub directory, like .com/dev/0002 Is it possible to keep the domain name and email addresses all hosted at fasthosts and to have the new website hosted in my unlimitedwebhosting account and to somehow have the domain point to the new website?

• XNA: Retrieve texture file name during runtime

  I'm trying to retrieve the names of the texture files (or their locations) on a mesh. I realize that the texture file name information is not preserved when the model is loaded. I've been doing tons of searching and some experimenting but I've been met with no luck. I've gathered that I need to extended the content pipeline and store the file location in somewhere like ModelMeshPart.Tag. My problem is, even when I'm trying to make my own custom processor, I still can't figure out where the texture file name is. :( Any thoughts? Thanks! UPDATE: Okay, so I found something kind of promising. NodeContent.Identity.SourceFilename, only that returns the location of my .X model. When I go down the node tree he is always null. Then there's the ContentItem.Name property. It seems to have names of my mesh, but not my actual texture file names. :(

One example to make you see my problem a bit better: We have a set of classes that have to do with the way a company is organized (we can create organizational charts with it). Sure, Google will need some time to index new pages and we expect our SERP positions will be not so good as they are now for some time. We also have an old idea to remove www from our domain name. • ASP.NET MVC tries to load older version of Owin assembly

  As a bit of context, I'm developing an ASP.NET MVC 5 application that uses OAuth-based authentication via Microsoft's OWIN implementation, for Facebook and Google only at this stage. Currently (as of v3.0.0, git-commit 4932c2f), the FacebookAuthenticationOptions and GoogleOAuth2AuthenticationOptions don't provide any property to force Facebook nor Google respectively to reauthenticate users (via appending the appropriate query string parameters) when signing in. Initially, I set out to override the following classes: FacebookAuthenticationOptions GoogleOAuth2AuthenticationOptions FacebookAuthenticationHandler (specifically AuthenticateCoreAsync()) GoogleOAuth2AuthenticationHandler (specifically AuthenticateCoreAsync()) yet discovered that the ~AuthenticationHandler classes are marked as internal. So I pulled a copy of the source for the Katana project (http://katanaproject.codeplex.com/) and modified the source accordingly. After compiling, I found that there are several dependencies that needed updating in order to use these updated assemblies (Microsoft.Owin.Security.Facebook and Microsoft.Owin.Security.Google) in the MVC project: Microsoft.Owin Microsoft.Owin.Security Microsoft.Owin.Security.Cookies Microsoft.Owin.Security.OAuth Microsoft.Owin.Host.SystemWeb This was done by replacing the existing project references to the 3.0.0 versions and updating those in web.config. Good news: the project compiles successfully. In debugging, I received an exception on startup: An exception of type 'System.IO.FileLoadException' occurred in [MVC web assembly].dll but was not handled in user code Additional information: Could not load file or assembly 'Microsoft.Owin.Security, Version=3.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040) The underlying exception indicated that Microsoft.AspNet.Identity.Owin was trying to load v2.1.0 of Microsoft.Owin.Security when calling app.UseExternalSignInCookie() from Startup.ConfigureAuth(IAppBuilder app) in Startup.Auth.cs. Unfortunately that assembly (and its other dependency, Microsoft.AspNet.Identity.Owin) aren't part of the Project Katana solution, and I can't find any accessible repository for these assemblies online. Are the Microsoft.AspNet.Identity assemblies open source, like the Katana project? Is there a way to fool those assemblies to use the referenced v3.0.0 assemblies instead of v2.1.0? The /bin folder contains the 3.0.0 versions of the Owin assemblies. I've upgraded the NuGet packages for Microsoft.AspNet.Identity.Owin, and this is still an issue. Any ideas on how to resolve this issue?

• Sharing an assembly between ASP.NET and Silverlight

  Hi, I've created an assembly to share it between my main app and the silverlight app. At the beginning it looked like it was going to work but now I get this exception: "System.IO.FileNotFoundException was caught, Message="Could not load file or assembly 'System.Xml.Linq". I'm using .NET 3.5 Sp1 and Silverlight 3. That shared assembly uses System.Xml.Linq, and it cannot find it... I think because it is trying to find that version in the .NET framework instead looking in the silverlight one. How can I fix this? Cheers.   I wrote a .net assembly using c# to perform functions that will be used by both managed and unmanaged code. I have a VB6 project that now needs to use the assembly via COM. I created my .net assembly, made sure that ComVisible is set to true and that it is registered for COM interop via project properties. public class MyClass [ComVisible(true)] public string GetResponse() { return "Testing Response" } } I build the assembly and copied the file into a folder. TestInterop.dll I then run a batch file to register the assembly tool to register the object for COM. cd C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework\v4.0.30319\ regasm "c:\Program Files\TestApp\TestInterop.dll" /tlb:TestInterop.tlb I open a new VB6 application and reference TestInterop.dll In VB6 I write the following code and it compiles. Dim obj as TestInterop.MyClass Set obj = new TestInterop.MyClass Dim strTest as string strTest = obj.GetRespose() When I run the program it errors on the obj.GetResponse() line. Run-time error' -2147024894 (80070002'): Automation error The system cannot find the file specified Also, the intellesense does not work on obj. I had to type the GetResponse method. Is this normal? Does anyone have any clue what could be wrong or what steps I missed. Thanks!

  I've been asked to take a look at an error in an ASP/C# application with its Paypal integration. The error, shown in full, is: Could not load file or assembly 'log4net, Version=1.2.0.30714, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b32731d11ce58905' or one of its dependencies. The located assembly's manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80131040) From what I understand, this means that the actual file located (that is, log4net.dll in my bin directory) does not match the version expected based on some assembly configuration. The problem I'm having is that I cannot locate where this file is being referenced. I have access to all the files in the web root directory of the site, and cannot locate any config files that reference this DLL. Where else might I need to look to determine what's causing the mis-match? As a note, I've made sure that the version of the DLL in the bin directory is up to date, but this does not seem to have resolved anything.

  I use an assembly of a 3rd party vendor. In an older version this assembly used authenticode. This caused the assembly loading to last quiet long. The developer of the vendor told me that the new version is not signed with authenticode. How can I check if this is true. On my development machine the assembly loading was quiet fast. Only on client machines it took quiet a while. Is it possible to check this using a network sniffer? Regards

My questions What happens when that line is called? Where is the assembly loaded? Why is it that I can't overwrite the assembly located in the extras folder that contains myNameSpace with a newer version? (I get an error saying that the assembly is "open" in another program) Is there a way to overwrite the assembly with a newer version without having the application restart?

  I have a solution in Visual Studio with 5 projects. They are: Foo.Core: Core functionality Foo.Api: Generated code built on top of core Foo.Web: Web-specific extensions Foo.Web.Mvc: MVC-specific extensions Newtonsoft.Json: 3rd party library I want to use ILMerge to merge Foo.Core, Foo.Api and Newtonsoft.Json into a single assembly, called Foo. That's the easy part. The problem I'm running into is that Foo.Web and Foo.Web.Mvc both need to reference all three of the merged assemblies. If I reference the original assemblies, they will have invalid references after I do the ILMerge. If I reference the ILMerged assembly, I have to reference a debug assembly and then change it before I package everything up, which doesn't seem ideal. I've tried creating a project called Foo, which references the 3 merged assemblies and replaces its own output with the ILmerged assembly, but that doesn't seem to work at all. Is there a reliable way to do this?

  I am getting an error about the assembly "C:\Ora10g\bin\Zip.exe". The trouble is this solution does NOT use anything in Oracle at all. I could not find a single reference to 10g anywhere in the project. I inherited this from another person who left our group. He never had this issue. Another member of my team said he got this before but reinstalling the client portion of 10g fixed it. No such luck there. I even tried using WinGrep to search the entire solution folder for "Ora10g" but it wasn't there. Any ideas? I can't build this solution until I can figure out how to get rid of this false reference to Oracle. VS 2005 solution. Contains a couple WinForm apps, a couple class libraries, and a web service. The error occurs in the main class library project. Here is the error message: Error 1 The "ResolveAssemblyReference" task failed unexpectedly. System.BadImageFormatException: Could not load file or assembly 'C:\Ora10g\bin\Zip.exe' or one of its dependencies. The module was expected to contain an assembly manifest. • Setup Project is not correctly registering assembly in GAC

  I have created a custom Rewrite Provider for IIS 7 following instructions in this article: Developing a Custom Rewrite Provider for URL Rewrite Module To simplify deployment, I have created a VS2010 Setup Project and configured it to deploy my assembly to GAC. When I run the installer, it completes successfully, and appears to be registered the assembly in GAC (I have verified using gacutil.exe /l). However, when I go to IIS Manager to register the new rewrite provider it is not displayed in the list of available providers. I have also tried to install the assembly manually using gacutil.exe /if. This does work and makes assembly visible in the list of available providers in IIS Manager. Am I missing some sort of configuration in my Setup Project?

• Referencing a x86 assembly in a 64bit one

  In one project we have a dependency on a legacy system and its .Net assembly which is delivered as a 'x86' and they do not provide a 'Any CPU' and/or 64bit one. Now the project itself juggles with lots of data and we hit the limitations we have with a forced x86 on the whole project due to that one assembly (if we used 64bit/any cpu it would raise a BadImageFormatException once that x86 is loaded on a 64bit machine). Now is there a (workaround)way to use a x86 assembly in a 64bit .net host app? That tiny dependency on that x86 assembly makes and keeps 99% of the project heavily limited.
