  • Networking issues with Linux server (CentOS 5.3)

    I have a Linux server hosting our bug tracking software (CentOS 5.2 Kernel 2.6.18-128.4.1.el5) that I have having some strange network problems with. The machine is configured with two NICS, one for the public interface and the other for our server back end network. The problem is that after doing a service network restart I can ping the public interface and it sends anywhere from 200-500 ICMP packets and then all of a sudden I start getting a request timed out error. Strange but as soon as I connect to the private interface the ping starts working again to the public interface. I clearly have a routing issue somewhere. I have a Juniper Router with the following configuration. Interface 0/0 -- Connect subnet to the ISP at our co-location Interface 0/2 -- For our DRAC network Interface 0/3 -- The Server-backend network (plugs directly into a switch that feeds to all the NICs that are on the 10.3.20.x network. Interface 0/4 -- Plugs directly into another switch that feeds our public interfaces, that interface as all the gateways from our public ip rangs as secondary IP addresses. I hope that someone can ask the right questions that can lead me to check things and figure out what is going on. Has anyone had similar problems and what kind of things should I be checking?   • Google chrome is always searching in local google domain instead of Google.com

    I have changed in the searched preferences to google.com but still when I do search from the address bar (instant or non-instant) it will go to google.co.kr. Even though I change "Google.com in English", still same... The only way is to open google.com website first, then do search in it. So the question - is there any way to force Chrome to search in Google.com instead of google.co.kr? I understand there is some geolocational checking/redirecting, but there must be some way to force...

When I view my email addresses on my device, I see both of these email addresses, however when I send new messages it always selects the first email address as the reply address and not the second. It is probably worth pointing out that, like in the example provided above, the email addresses are shown alphabetically and the address being selected is the first alphabetically (just in case that matters). I would like to set the device to always select the reply address specified in the mailbox, or at least be able to ensure that the address I want is selected if I have to select it manually on the device, but cannot find any way to make this happen. Can anybody help?

Is this something malicious and if so what should I do about it?

  • Nginx / uWsgi / Django site can handle more traffic with rewrite URL

    Hi there. I'm running a Django app, using uWsgi behind Nginx. I've been doing some performance tuning and load testing using ApacheBench and have discovered something unexpected which I wonder if someone could explain for me. In my Nginx config I have a rewrite directive which catches lots of different URL permutations and then forwards them to the canonical URL I wish to use, eg, it traps www.mysite.com/whatever, www.mysite.co.uk/whatever and forwards them all to http://mysite.com/whatever. If I load test against any of the URLs listed with a redirect (ie, NOT the canonical URL which it is eventually forwarded to), it can serve 15000 concurrent connections without breaking a sweat. If I load test against the canonical URL, which the above test I would have expected got forwarded to anyway, it can't handle nearly as much. It will drop about 4000 of the 15000 requests, and can only handle about 9000 reliably. This is the command line I'm using to test: ab -c15000 -n15000 http://www.mysite.com/somepath/ and ab -c15000 -n15000 http://mysite.com/somepath/ I've tried several different types - it makes no different which order I do them in. This doesn't make sense to me - I can understand why the requests involving a redirect may not handle quite so many concurrent connections, but it's happening the other way round. Can anyone explain? I'd really prefer it if the canonical URL was the one which could handle more traffic. I'll post my Nginx config below.   • Automatically allowing SSH into a machine behind a UPNP router?

    Hi I have a MacBook connecting to the Internet from behind various routers from time to time (home, office, etc). All of the routers support UPNP. I need to allow a co-worker to SSH into the machine, without configuring each router each time to forward port 22 to the MacBook. Is there any way to get the MacBook to use UPNP (or some other method) to automatically configure any supporting router that it is behind to forward port 22 to itself? That would allow the co-worker to SSH into the MacBook but just knowing its external IP, which is easy.

    I tried to install Webmin on Ubuntu by following the instructions on http://www.webmin.com/deb.html.
