  • How to mix C++ Qt objects and Qt Jambi objects

    - by Dan
Hi, I'm trying to combine some existing Qt code written in C++ with some code written in Java using Qt Jambi, but I'm not quite sure how to do it. I'm basically trying to acieve two things: Pass a QObject from C++ to Java using JNI Pass a Qt Jambi QObject from Java to C++ It looks like I can pass the pointer directly and then wrap it in QNativePointer on the Java side, but I can't figure out how to turn a QNativePointer back into the original object, wrapped by Qt Jambi. Eg: I can pass a QWidget* as a long to Java and then create a QNativePointer in Java, but how can I then construct a QWidget out of this? QJambiObject and QObject dont seem to have a "setNativePointer" method and I'm not sure how to convert it. In C++: QWidget* widget = ... jclass cls = env->FindClass("Test"); jmethodID mid = env->GetStaticMethodID(cls, "test", "(I)V"); env->CallStaticVoidMethod(cls, mid, int(widget)); In Java: public class Test { public static void test (int ptr) { QNativePointer pointer = new QNativePointer(QNativePointer.Type.Int); pointer.setIntValue(ptr); QWidget widget = ... Thanks!

  • Improving ANTLR DSL parse-error messages

    - by Dan Fabulich
I'm working on a domain-specific language (DSL) for non-programmers. Non-programmers make a lot of grammar mistakes: they misspell keywords, they don't close parentheses, they don't terminate blocks, etc. I'm using ANTLR to generate my parser; it provides a nifty mechanism for handling RecognitionExceptions to improve error handling. But I'm finding it pretty hard to develop good error-handling code for my DSL. At this point, I'm considering ways to simplify the language to make it easier for me to provide users with high-quality error messages, but I'm not really sure how to go about this. I think I want to reduce the ambiguity of errors somehow, but I'm not sure how to implement that idea in a grammar. In what ways can I simplify my language to improve parse-error messages for my users? EDIT: Updated to clarify that I'm interested in ways to simplify my language, not just ANTLR error-handling tips in general. (Though, thanks for those!)

  • jquery dialog - which button opened the dialog?

    - by Dan
In the example below, how can you use the event and ui objects to detect which link opened the dialog? Can't seem to get $(event.target).attr("title"); to work properly, and I'm having trouble finding documentation on the 'ui object that is passed. Thanks! $( ".selector" ).dialog({ link_title = $(event.target).attr("title"); alert(link_title); }); $("a").live("click", function() { btn_rel = $(this).attr("rel"); $(btn_rel).dialog("open"); }); <a class="btn pencil" rel="#dialog_support_option_form" title="Edit Support Option">Edit</button>

  • Python Wildcard Import Vs Named Import

    - by Dan
Ok, I have some rather odd behavior in one of my Projects and I'm hoping someone can tell me why. My file structure looks like this: MainApp.py res/ __init__.py elements/ __init__.py MainFrame.py Inside of MainFrame.py I've defined a class named RPMWindow which extends wx.Frame. In MainApp.py this works: from res.elements.MainFrame import * And this does not: from res.elements.MainFrame import RPMWindow I realize that the wild card import won't hurt anything, but I'm more interested in understanding why the named import is failing when the wild card succeeds.

  • WWW::Mechanize for Objective C / iPhone?

    - by dan
Hi, I want to port a python app that uses mechanize for the iPhone. This app needs to login to a webpage and using the site cookie to go to other pages on that site to get some data. With my python app I was using mechanize for automatic cookie management. Is there something similar for Objective C that is portable to the iPhone? Thanks for any help.

  • __doPostBack is not working in firefox

    - by Dan Williams
The __doPostBack is not working in firefox 3 (have not checked 2). Everything is working great in IE 6&7 and it even works in Chrome?? It's a simple asp:LinkButton with an OnClick event <asp:LinkButton ID="DeleteAllPicturesLinkButton" Enabled="False" OnClientClick="javascript:return confirm('Are you sure you want to delete all pictures? \n This action cannot be undone.');" OnClick="DeletePictureLinkButton_Click" CommandName="DeleteAll" CssClass="button" runat="server"> The javascript confirm is firing so I know the javascript is working, it's specirically the __doPostBack event. There is a lot more going on on the page, just didn't know if it's work it to post the entire page. I enable the control on the page load event. Any ideas? I hope this is the correct way to do this, but I found the answer. I figured I'd put it up here rather then in a stackoverflow "answer" Seems it had something to do with nesting ajax toolkit UpdatePanel. When I removed the top level panel it was fixed. Hope this helps if anyone else has the same problem. I still don't know what specifically was causing the problem, but that was the solution for me.

  • What resolution should my Android splash screens be?

    - by Dan Fabulich
I'm creating a splash screen that will display while my Android application loads. I'd like to create it at the correct size so Android won't auto-scale it up or down to fit the screen. But there are at least three important screen sizes I care about: 320x480, 480x854 (Droid), and 480x800 (Nexus One). I've read the documentation on supporting multiple screen sizes, but I still don't see how I'm supposed to configure different splash screens for Droid/Nexus one (they're both "hdpi" resources as far as Android is concerned), and I don't know exactly how large my splash screen should be in any case. (How tall is the OS title bar/menu in Droid? N1?) What size should I make these images, and how do I tell Android to use the correct size on a given screen?

  • Silverlight 4 HttpWebRequest user agent string is null

    - by Dan B
The problem I have a page with a silverlight object. It attempts to retrieve XML from the page. But I am struggling with a security exception. I have this code working brilliantly in WPF. When using a website hosting a silverlight application with the same code, the user agent string of the HttpRequest object is null (and seemingly cannot be set). In fact there is no header information at all - this causes a security exception when attempting to make my asynchronous call. The question Why is the user-agent string (and header information) null in my silverlight 4 application when making an asynchronous call using HttpWebRequest? Thanks in advance!

I am about to give a TDD workshop. I have the theoretical part pretty much sorted out, but I wish to avoid typical Tic-tac-toe, Currency or god forbid Calculator exercise. Any suggestions for a good TDD exercise that can be ideally finished in a couple of hours? Oh, and one exercise per answer if you can!

  • WebClient vs. HttpWebRequest/HttpWebResponse

    - by Dan
It seems to me that most of what can be accomplished with HttpWebRequest/Response can also be accomplished with the WebClient class. I read somewhere that WebClient is a high-level wrapper for WebRequest/Response. So far, I can't see anything that can be accomplished with HttpWebRequest/Response that can not be accomplished with WebClient, nor where HttpWebRequest/Response will give you more "fine-grained" control. When should I use WebClient and when HttpWebRequest/Response? (Obviously, HttpWebRequest/Response are HTTP specific.) If HttpWebRequest/Response are lower level then WebClient, what can I accomplish with HttpWebRequest/Response that I cannot accomplish with WebClient?

  • How can I install the BlackBerry v5.0.0 component pack into Eclipse?

    - by Dan J
I'm trying to install the latest v5.0.0 "beta 2" BlackBerry OS Component Pack into Eclipse 3.4.2 with BlackBerry Eclipse plugin v1.0.0.67, but have hit a few problems. Has anybody found an easy way to do this? I had no trouble installing the v4.5.0 and v4.7.0 Component Packs. It's rather strange that BlackBerry are shipping new phones with the v5.0.0 OS installed (e.g. a Storm 2 9550 and Bold 9700 that I just bought), and pushing that update to phones whilst the BlackBerry website still considers the v5.0.0 SDK / Component Packs to be "beta 2"! If anybody knows when an official non-beta Component Pack is going to be released that might solve my problem... In case it helps, the problems I've hit so far are: -Contrary to the implication on the BlackBerry website, the Eclipse "Software Update..." option for the v5.0.0 Component Pack claims it only works on the v1.0.0 Eclipse BlackBerry plugin, not the new v1.1 one. -I then tried to install the v5.0.0 Component Pack through the "Software Updates..." menu in Eclipse using the v1.0.0 Eclipse BlackBery plugin. Once I'd done the 200MB download the install failed with a "Invalid zip file format" error. -I might just have been unlucky with a corrupted download but I did try it twice, once through "Software Updates..." and once by selecting "Archive" to install the downloaded Component Pack (which unlike v4.5.0 and v4.7.0 was a JAR, not a ZIP).

  • Filtering in a HierarchicalDataTemplate via MarkupExtension?

    - by Dan Bryant
I'm trying to create a MarkupExtension to allow filtering of items in an ItemsSource of a HierarchicalDataTemplate. In particular, I'd like to be able to supply a method name that will be executed on the DataContext in order to perform the filtering. The usage syntax I'm after looks like this: <HierarchicalDataTemplate DataType="{x:Type src:DeviceBindingViewModel}" ItemsSource="{Utilities:FilterCollection {Binding Definition.Entries}, MethodName=FilterEntries}"> <StackPanel Orientation="Horizontal"> <Image Source="{StaticResource BindingImage}" Width="24" Height="24" Margin="3"/> <TextBlock Text="{Binding DisplayName}" FontSize="12" VerticalAlignment="Center"/> </StackPanel> </HierarchicalDataTemplate> My code for the custom MarkupExtension looks like this: public sealed class FilterCollectionExtension : MarkupExtension { private readonly MultiBinding _binding; private Predicate<Object> _filterMethod; public string MethodName { get; set; } public FilterCollectionExtension(Binding binding) { _binding = new MultiBinding(); _binding.Bindings.Add(binding); //We package a reference to the DataContext with the binding so that the Converter has access to it var selfBinding = new Binding {RelativeSource = RelativeSource.Self}; _binding.Bindings.Add(selfBinding); _binding.Converter = new InternalConverter(this); } public FilterCollectionExtension(Binding binding, string methodName) : this(binding) { MethodName = methodName; } public override object ProvideValue(IServiceProvider serviceProvider) { return _binding; } private bool FilterInternal(Object dataContext, Object value) { //Filtering is only applicable if a DataContext is defined if (dataContext != null) { if (_filterMethod == null) { var type = dataContext.GetType(); var method = type.GetMethod(MethodName, new[] { typeof(Object) }); if (method == null || method.ReturnType != typeof(bool)) throw new InvalidOperationException("Could not locate a filter predicate named " + MethodName + " on the DataContext"); _filterMethod = (Predicate<Object>)Delegate.CreateDelegate(typeof(Predicate<Object>), dataContext, method); } else { if (_filterMethod.Target != dataContext) { _filterMethod = (Predicate<Object>) Delegate.CreateDelegate(typeof (Predicate<Object>), dataContext, _filterMethod.Method); } } if (_filterMethod != null) return _filterMethod(value); } //If no filtering resolved, just allow all elements return true; } private class InternalConverter : IMultiValueConverter { private readonly FilterCollectionExtension _owner; public InternalConverter(FilterCollectionExtension owner) { _owner = owner; } public object Convert(object[] values, Type targetType, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) { var enumerable = values[0]; var targetElement = (FrameworkElement)values[1]; var view = CollectionViewSource.GetDefaultView(enumerable); view.Filter = item => _owner.FilterInternal(targetElement.DataContext, item); return view; } public object[] ConvertBack(object value, Type[] targetTypes, object parameter, System.Globalization.CultureInfo culture) { throw new NotSupportedException("Cannot convert back"); } } } I can see that the extension is instantiated and I can see it return the MultiBinding that is used by the Template. I also see the call to the InternalConverter.Convert method, which sees the expected parameters (I see the collection provided by the nested {Binding}) and is successfully able to retrieve the ICollectionView for the incoming collection. The only problem is that FilterInternal never gets called. The template is ultimately being used by a TreeView, if that's relevant. I haven't been able to figure out why the FilterInternal method is not being called and I was hoping somebody might be able to offer some insight.

  • Notification when popup is closed using Silverlight's HtmlPage.PopupWindow()

    - by Dan Auclair
I am popping up an HTML page from a Silverlight application using the HtmlPage.PopupWindow() method. I am trying to handle the event of when the popup window is closed from within Silverlight. This is how I am attempting to do this: var window = HtmlPage.PopupWindow(new Uri("http://mypopup..."), "popup", options); EventHandler<HtmlEventArgs> windowClosed = (sender, e) => { // would like to refresh the page when popup is closed... HtmlPage.Document.Submit(); }; window.AttachEvent("onUnload", windowClosed); However the event handler never seems to get called. Is this something that is possible or am I missing something? The Silverlight app and the HTML popup page are on the same domain, however they are actually on different ports. I was thinking that maybe the pages being on different ports would be considered a cross-site restriction and cause the JavaScript to fail.

  • Error in requiring Sinatra gem

  • .Net opening and clossing database connections

    - by Dan
I currently designed the data access portion of our framework so that every time a business object needed to interact with the database it would have to open a connection, invoke the data access layer (to execute the query), and then close the connection. Then if it needed to run in a transaction it would open the connection, begin the transaction, invoke the data access layer (to execute the query) and then commit the transaction, close the transaction, and finally close the connection. I did it this way with the mindset of open late and close early...but what if I needed to call other BO's to submit data in a single transaction? Is there a better way to handle opening and closing connections as well as working with transactions? I'm a rookie at architecting applications so I hope I'm not doing this wrong...any help is appreciated.

  • Putting JComboBox into JTable

    - by Dan
    Hi, I want to put individual JComboBoxes into each cells of a JTable. ie. The JComboBox content is not identical for each cell. I basically would like to be able to just call the following code to add a row of JComboBox into the JTable. Anyone has any idea? Thanks JComboBox cb1 = new JComboBox(...); JComboBox cb2 = new JComboBox(...); model.addRow(new Object[] {"Row name", cb1, cb2} ); JComboBox cb3 = new JComboBox(...); JComboBox cb4 = new JComboBox(...); model.addRow(new Object[] {"Row name 2", cb3, cb4} ); This is the resultant view if I do the above. http://www.freeimagehosting.net/uploads/a6292e08ee.png The closest example code I can find is as follows. But it is for where JComboBox content is identical for the individual column. Not the solution I need. TableColumn col = table.getColumnModel().getColumn(vColIndex); col.setCellEditor(new MyComboBoxEditor(values)); where public class MyComboBoxEditor extends DefaultCellEditor { public MyComboBoxEditor(String[] items) { super(new JComboBox(items)); } }

  • JQuery BlockUI - How to unblock UI after file download?

    - by Dan
Using ASP.Net, JQuery and BlockUI, I'm trying to unblock the UI after a download file dialog is shown. I block the UI when export button is clicked: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function(){ $('#<%= BtnExport.ClientID%>').click(function(){ $.blockUI(); }); }); </script> After this, I generate the file server side using: private void SendFileToUser(byte[] file, string contentType, string filename) { Response.Clear(); Response.ContentType = contentType; Response.AppendHeader("Content-Disposition", "attachment; filename="+filename); Response.OutputStream.Write(file,0,file.Length); Response.OutputStream.Flush(); Response.End(); } After this code has executed, I would like to unblock the UI. I have considered different options: Poll using Ajax calls to see if the file has been generated. Store the file in Session and redirect to same page and generate download then. But both options seem ackward, and I think there must be a clever JavaScript way to get a handle on or wait for a file dialog. Any suggestions?

  • Fastest way to remove non-numeric characters from a VARCHAR in SQL Server

    - by Dan Herbert
I'm writing an import utility that is using phone numbers as a unique key within the import. I need to check that the phone number does not already exist in my DB. The problem is that phone numbers in the DB could have things like dashes and parenthesis and possibly other things. I wrote a function to remove these things, the problem is that it is slow and with thousands of records in my DB and thousands of records to import at once, this process can be unacceptably slow. I've already made the phone number column an index. I tried using the script from this post: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/52315/t-sql-trim-nbsp-and-other-non-alphanumeric-characters But that didn't speed it up any. Is there a faster way to remove non-numeric characters? Something that can perform well when 10,000 to 100,000 records have to be compared. Whatever is done needs to perform fast. Update Given what people responded with, I think I'm going to have to clean the fields before I run the import utility. To answer the question of what I'm writing the import utility in, it is a C# app. I'm comparing BIGINT to BIGINT now, with no need to alter DB data and I'm still taking a performance hit with a very small set of data (about 2000 records). Could comparing BIGINT to BIGINT be slowing things down? I've optimized the code side of my app as much as I can (removed regexes, removed unneccessary DB calls). Although I can't isolate SQL as the source of the problem anymore, I still feel like it is.

  • Can I use UIRefreshControl with UICollectionViewScrollDirectionHorizontal?

    - by Dan Abramov
You can add UIRefreshControl to UICollectionView (or any UIScrollView for that matter) by adding it to collection's subviews: UIRefreshControl *refreshControl = [[UIRefreshControl alloc] init]; [refreshControl addTarget:self action:@selector(handleRefresh:) forControlEvents:UIControlEventValueChanged]; [self.collectionView addSubview:refreshControl]; This doesn't work when collection view layout has UICollectionViewScrollDirectionHorizontal. I tried overriding layoutSubviews to put refresh control to the left, but it wouldn't track scrolling progress this way. Can I trick it into working with horizontal layouts?

  • Microsoft flexgrid Control : Run-time error '438' Object doesnt support this property or method

    - by Dan
I am maintaining a legacy Microsoft Access application that is using the Microsoft Flexgrid 6.0. It recently started causing the following error: Run-time error '438' Object doesn't support this property or method People say that this error can be caused by the KB960715 security update being applied, which sets killbits on various ActiveX control methods which were deemed a security risk. But this or no other security update has been applied recently. Others say that installing Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 Service Pack 6 Cumulative Update will update the flex grid. This requires VB6 to be installed as a prerequisite so I installed that on my PC and then the update, and retrieved the updated MsFlxGrd.ocx file(Version: 6.1.98.12) and copied to the application machine, but the error still prevails. Someone here says you can disable the killbit in the registry. But there are afew hundred nodes in the location they suggest, none of which has the same guid as the one they point out. Any ideas?

  • Can I query DOM Document with xpath expression from multiple threads safely?

    - by Dan
I plan to use dom4j DOM Document as a static cache in an application where multiples threads can query the document.
