  • Performance of Cluster Shared Volume file copy from SAN

    I am hoping someone can help me out with a strange issue. We are running a Microsoft Failover Cluster with Server 2008 R2 and an Equallogic PS4000 SAN. Our main configuration has 2 Dell Poweredge T710 Servers in the cluster. We have CSV and Quorm setup. The servers each have 10 Broadcom 1Gb NICs. Right now 4 of the NICS are on the iSCSI network for accessing the SAN. They use MPIO and the Dell HIT pack. We have 5 VMs running on each node and everything runs smooth. No noticeable performance issues or anything. From the SAN I can see the 4 iSCSI connections from each server to each volume (CSV and Quorm). Again, it seems to perform great. The problem I am running into is with backups. I have tried a few backup programs like backupchain and Veeam. The problem is both of them are very very slow to backup the VMs. For instance I have a 500GB (fixed disc) VHD that’s running on the cluster. It takes over 18 hours to backup that VHD and that’s with compression and depuping turned off which is supposed to be the fasted. We also have a separate server that is just for backups. It has a lot of directed attached storage. As part of the troubleshooting I decided to bring that server into the cluster as a node. It now has access to the CSV and can read from C:\clusterstorage\volume1 which is where our VHDs live. This backup server only has 2 NICs. 1 NIC is going to the iSCSI network and the other is just on the main network. It has Intel NICS in it without any sort of MPIO or teaming. So with the 3rd server now in the cluster I started doing some benchmarking. I have a test VHD that’s about 7GBs that’s stored in the CSV. I have tested file copying that VHD from all 3 servers to directed attached storage in the respective server. The 2 Dell servers that are the main nodes in the cluster (they house the VMs) are reading that file at about 20Mbs/Sec. Which at that rate is way to slow for the backups. The other server which only has 1 NIC to the SAN is reading at around 100Mbs/Sec. I spent a few hours on the phone with Dell today about this . We went through all kind of tests and he was pretty dumb founded. He really has no idea why that server with only 1 NIC is reading about 5 times as fast as the servers with 4 NICS and MPIO. We looked at the network utilization of the NICs while the file copy was going on. The servers with the 4 NICs had a small increase of activity during the file copy but they only went up to around 8-10% on all 4 NICs. The other server with the 1 NIC jumped up to over 80% during the file copy. I plan on doing some more testing after hours and calling Dell back tomorrow but I really am confused (and so is Dell’s support rep) why I cannot get faster file copy access to the CSV on those servers. Anyone have any input on this? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The next time a system image is created, only new and changed data is written to the .vhd file, and old data on the same block is moved out of the VHD and into the shadow copy storage area. Volume Shadow Copy Service is used to compute the changed data between backups, as well as to handle the process of moving the old data out to the shadow copy area on the target. This approach makes the backup fast (since only changed blocks are backed up) and efficient (since data is stored in a compact manner). When restoring the image, blocks will be restored to their original locations on the source disk. If you want to restore from an older backup, the engine reads from the shadow copy area and restores the appropriate blocks. For the last days, a daily system backup of drive C: to drive E: has been scheduled and run by Windows 7 Backup and Restore. Drive C: currently holds 233 GB of data, which fits comfortably on drive E:, a 1 TB drive, with 727 GB of free space remaining. How do I access the previous version of a VHD? I right clicked on files and folders in E:\WindowsImageBackup, and I looked for Previous Versions but always: There are no previous versions available

Now I want to invert the list so that the first node is the last and the last the first. The inverted list has to be a deep copy. I started developing the invert function but I am not sure. Any Ideas? Update: Maybe there is a recursive way since the linear linked list is a recursive data structure. I would take the first element, iterate through the list until I get to a node that has no child and append the first element, I would repeat this for the second, third....

  • Can't copy file with green filename, access denied

    Using Windows Explorer under XP I see some of my files have green filenames. When I try and copy one of these files I get an error reporting Access denied. The My pictures folder also appears with green text and I have a large number of photos from family holidays I don't want to loose. I need to backup these files as I'm changing laptop soon. We use SafeBoot to encryt our hard drives but I don't think this is the problem as it allows me to copy other files to removable media with no problems. Has anybody come across this before and how can I resolve this?

    I am trying to use dozer to map between classes.     For some time I've been interested in binding the Windows Key (Super_L) on my keyboard to Copy and Paste for no other reason but convenience and consistency between my desktop and my MacBook. I thought that I was close after reading about xmodmap and executing the following: $ # re-map Super_L to Mode_switch, the 3rd col in keymap table `xmodmap -pke` $ xmodmap -e "keycode 133 = Mode_switch" $ # map Mode_switch+c to copy $ xmodmap -e "keycode 54 = c C XF86_Copy C" $ # map Mode_switch+v to paste $ xmodmap -e "keycode 55 = v V XF86_Paste V" Unfortunately, XF86Copy and XF86Paste don't seem to work, at all. They are listed in /usr/include/X11/XF86keysym.h and xev shows that the key sequence is being interpreted by X as XF86Paste and XF86Copy, do these symbols actually work? Do they have to have application level support?

  • Configuring RealVNC to accept copy/paste on a remote server

    Hi So, I'm using RealVNC Viewer locally (Mac OSX 10.6) and connecting to a VNC Server on a remote machine (Debian - I'm no Unix expert). I want to be able to copy and paste at the command line, but Ctrl+V, Shift+V and Command+V all do nothing on the remote command line. First question: should I be trying a different combination of keys? Secondly, if it's not that I'm using the wrong combination of keys, how can I configure VNC Server to accept copy and paste? I have 'Share clipboard with VNC Server' checked locally, so I figure it must be a problem on the remote machine. I only have command-line access on the remote machine (though I am root) so I need to configure the option somehow via the command line.

  • Can't copy files with 'additional permissions' to ext4 drive -- files that have @ after permissions,

    I am copying files from Snow Leopard to a mounted ext4 share via Samba, that's on a Fedora machine. Some files cannot be copied, and give this error: The operation can’t be completed because you don’t have permission to access some of the items. I've noticed that the files that can't be copied have an @ at the end of their permissions whien I do 'ls -l' in the command line. For example, I can copy the second file but not the first: -rwxrwxrwx@ 1 miles staff 1448 May 14 22:55 test.txt -rw-r--r-- 1 miles staff 136 Apr 5 17:06 image.psd.zip From what I've found, the @ means the file has 'additional properties'. Does anyone know how I can resolve this issue so I can copy the files to the fileshare?? Thanks!

    I have a Windows 7 Pro host, and Ubuntu 12.04 LTS guest. I cannot get the shared clipboard working. I have installed Guest Additions 4.1.20 on VirtualBox 4.1.20, have restarted, followed instructions found at http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch04.html#idp18411760, and have enabled bidirectional clipboard sharing within VirtualBox options. However, I still cannot copy and paste between the host and guest. Copy/paste works great within the host, and within the guest, but not between the two. I'm out of ideas.

  • Programmatically compose images into one grid in Deep Zoom

    Folks, the problem: there are individual 1MB images that represent a grid of images that should be placed side-by-side with no overlap and then conveted/exported to deepzoom. Image are named by row and column like image_col_row.jpg. The challenge: the total number of images in thousands, which makes it prohibitive for manual composition and exporting in DZC. I tried to first stitch images programmaticall into one huge image, then to use DZC - no luck cause the exporting chocked with the size. if you tried programmaticall compose and export deepzoom, please point me into the right direction.     I have an object with a readonly property that I am trying to implement NSCopying for. It has a mutableArray called "subConditions" (which holds "SubCondition" objects). I have made it readonly because I want callers to be able to change the data in the array, but not the array itself. This worked really well until it was time to write the -copyWithZone: method. After fumbling around a bit, I managed to get something that seems to work. I am not sure if it is the best practice though. Here is a simplified version of my -copyWithZone: method: -(id)copyWithZone:(NSZone*)zone { Condition *copy = [[[self class]allocWithZone:zone]init]; NSArray *copiedArray = [[NSArray alloc]initWithArray:self.subConditions copyItems:YES]; [copy.subConditions setArray:copiedArray]; [copiedArray release]; return copy; } Is this the correct/best way to copy a readonly mutableArray?

    I wrote a script in python that was supposed to copy a bunch of files to system32 and then install them through cmd. I can do it manually but I'm trying to make it automatic. This is what I wrote: Import shutil Import os L = ['file1.type', 'file2.type'.... ] dst = "C:\Windows\system32" For f in L: shutil.copy(f, dst) os.system("cmd command yada yada...") And it doesn't work. I tried doing it step by step with idle and it worked fine. All the files are in the same directory as the script. What am I missing here?

So, original sprite is half displayed on the right side (for example), and half on the left side, because it has not fully crossed yet. Obviously (or is it), I need 2 sprites to achieve this. One on the right side (original), and one on the left side (a copy). The problem is - I don't know how to create exact copy of the original sprite, because tied actions have scaling and blending transformations (sprite is a bit distorted). I would like to have something like: CCSprite *copy = [[jack copy] autorelease]; so that I can add a copy to display it on the correct side (and kill it after transition is over). It should have all the actions tied to it... Any ideas?

One picture and page title as a link. I was looking for many days now and I still couldn't find anything which does the same thing.     I want to copy values from one object to another object. Something similiar to pass by value but with assignment. Eg. PushPin newValPushPin = oldPushPin; //I want to break the reference here. I was told to write a copy constructor for this. But this class has alot of properties, it will probably take an hour to write a copy constructor by hand. Is there a better way to assign an object to another object by value? If not, is there a copy constructor generator?

  • Overriding deep functions in javascript

    I'm quite new to javascript but have undertaken a task to get better aquainted with it. However, I am running into some problems with jQuery. The following javascript is the code that is in a third party jQuery plugin and I would love to be able to override the funFunction() function here to do my own implementation. Is this possible, if so, how can I do it? I've been doing a fair amount of searching and have tried a number of methods for overriding the function using things like: jQuery.blah.funFunction = funtion() { alert("like this"); }; Main code: (function($) { $.extend( { blah: new function() { this.construct = = function(settings) { //Construct... stuff }; function funFunction() { //Function I want to override } } }); })(jQuery); For those further interested I am trying to override tablesorter so that the only way a user can sort a column is in ascending order only. Edit: There is a wordpress installation that uses WP-Table-Reloaded which in turn uses this plugin. I don't want to change the core code for this plugin because if there was ever an update I would then have to make sure that my predecessor knew exactly what I had done. I've been programming for a long time and feel like I should easily be able to pick up javascript whilst also looking at jQuery. I know exactly what I need to do for this, just not how I can override this function.

    Hello, I setup my master and slave using FreeBSD. I'm currently running the Bind 9.X version, so far everything is working successfully. Just one small problem. I can't get the master copy of my DNS to transfer it to the slave server. I included transfer-allow {192.168.1.111;}; // this is the slave server's IP I ran the rndc reload command to check but I don't see the copy in the /etc/named/master/? Any help would be appreciated and if you would like the layout of my DNS, I can provide that too.
