• Remote RAID Control ESXi Dell PowerEdge 2950 OpenManage

  I was wondering how one can add a drive into an existing RAID array while ESXi is still running. I have read that you are able to use Dell OpenManage to do this. I have installed OMSA 7.0 on the VMWare ESXi host (5.0 and fully updated) and I've installed OpenManage Essentials on a Windows Server 2008 R2 guest. The issue that I'm having is that OpenManage is unable to see my RAID controller. I have seen videos and photos as parts of guides on how to do this online, so I would assume that the functionality exists and I just have it set up wrong.

• IMAP/POP won't send allow emails to outside- New Dell PowerEdge 7310 running SBS 2011

  I have a brand new out of the box Dell PowerEdge T310 running SBS 2011. Our employees at our remote offices can't send emails to recipients outside of our own domain. The workstations at the same location as the server aren't having any problem. I would at this time like to say "Thanks a lot" to the super-minds at Microsoft for protecting our email server from rogue computers attempting to send fake emails. (Silly me I thought proper login and password conventions would handle that.) I know this is something dealing with relaying but thus far nothing from any posts I've read have changed anything. Honestly, if someone is crafty enough to guess one of our login/password combos, let them send emails through our server I don't care!

• dell E6500 laptop will not hibernate/standby

  I am using a Dell E6500 laptop with windows XP on it, it was originally tagged/installed with Windows Vista. My issue is, when I close the lid, it will not either Hibernate or Standby. If I close the lid with either of these options, I then have to startup from scratch, and anything I had open is not open. I just want to close the lid, have it keep what I have running, not use power util I open the lid again and start it up (with the stuff still open I had open of course). Suggestions?

• DELL switch 6248 port and mac mapping using SNMP

  I have a Dell 6248 switch. I connect some of my servers to it and want to know which server nic connected to which switch port. I try using snmpwalk to get this information, but I just can get mac/ip mapping of my server nic from switch, I still can't get which switch port it connect. I try a tool named Managed Switch Port Mapping tool, it can show which switch port is connected to which nic/ip. I use WireShare to get all snmp packets but still can't find what's the snmp oid to get this information. Anyone knows how to get this?

• powerpoint make computer shut down on dell optiplex 760

  At my office we upgraded group of computers to windows 7 + office 2010, few of us have problem that when we work on powerpoint - once in a while the computer suddenly shut down (with out any message). Some of us - has no such problems. We checked and fount that the people who experience problems - use Dell Optiplex 760 PC, and everyone that have no problems use other models. We also found out that the processors of the 760's are not the same - some are Intel E7400 and one is Intel E8400, so I suspect that maybe the mother board is the problem Does any one no this problem? Does any one have an idea about it? Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Yael

• Dell XPS 420: Turning computer on, video ports showing static

  I have a Dell XPS 420 which i recently upgraded with a EVGA GTX 550TI and a 80GB SSD Drive. I converted this machine into a home theater PC. Which I've always had on. The computer wasn't responding, and so i restarted it and when it started, video ports showing static. I was getting static on my TV thru both DVI ports and the mini HDMI port. I assumed my video card had gone bad, but i completely replaced it and still the same behavior is occurring. I do not know how to diagnosis this issue. Any thoughts?

• Dell D620 Windows 7 Blank screen

  When I installed Windows 7 on my Dell D620 it was all fine until a couple of days later most times when I either shut down or suspend (by closing the lid). When I unsuspend or startup the computer, there is often a completely blank screen (can't see post screen or anything), and restarting doesn't help. I've found that I can eventually bring it back up again by suspending and unsuspending a few times, but obviously this is not ideal. Has anyone else experienced this? I think it is a driver issue, that somehow the driver is putting the video card into a certain mode that it forgets how to get it back out of. Any ideas on a better solution than my switching off and on business? Edit: Turns out that the video card had burned out! IT managed to get me a new mainboard sorted for me.

• dell u2410 3dMark Benchmark distortion problems

  Ive been doing burn in testing for a new system I have put together and I am running into some video distortion problems with running the 3DMark benchmark tools (Both 06 and Vantage). The graphics will be fine, then sometimes during a test switch the screen will light up with thin horizontal ranibow lines (Something that looks very "glitchy") If i turn the monitor off and back on it clears up. All the tests "pass" and my system gets good marks but it concerns me if I might have problems with games (The screen returns to normal if I dont resest monitor and just let tests pass). I want to return a problem component now before its too late if it is something with the new hardware. Also, I am monitoring temp with thermal laser gun and the card itself is not going above 65c. Any ideas? System: Asrock x58 Xtreme - Last BIOS (1.80) EVGA Geforce GTX 285 w/ latest nvidia drivers (Connect via DVI1) Dell U2410(Set to 59hz refresh 1900x1202 -although I believe benchmarks run 1200x1024) Windows 7 Ultimate 64 12Gb DDR3 1600 RAM

• External USB Fingerprint Reader for Pre-boot Authentication for Dell Laptop

  My company just purchased several Dell Latitude E6500 laptops with docking stations and external monitors. These laptops have a fingerprint scanner located next to the keyboard. DOCKED users who prefer to use the included fingerprint scanner for pre-boot authentication are forced to open their laptop in order to access the scanner. This is an inconvenience when the laptop is docked. We are looking for an external, usb fingerprint scanner, that will work with the current preboot authentication setup. I assume that this scanner would have to access the existing credentials for authentication....wherever they are stored. So we would require something that would work PRE-BOOT, use the existing credentials, and not interfere with usage when the machine was not docked, such as when the laptop is being used at home. Does anyone have experience with this scenario? Thanks.

Crucial.com scan reports: "Each memory slot can hold DDR2 PC2-5300 with a maximum of 2GB per slot. Maximum Memory Capacity:  12288MB Currently Installed Memory:  2GB Available Memory Slots:  2 Total Memory Slots:  6 Dual Channel Support:   No CPU Manufacturer:  GenuineIntel CPU Family:  Intel(R) Xeon(TM) CPU 2.80GHz Model 4, Stepping 1 CPU Speed:  2793 MHz Installed in pairs of modules." We will be completely replacing the old 512 MB modules. Will there be any performance difference between installing 4 modules @ 1GB vs. 2 modules @ 2GB?

• Oracle RAC interconnect in a Dell M1000e Blade Enclosure

  We are looking at a Dell M1000e enclosure and appropriate Blades with 4 NICs each. We are planning on running Linux/Oracle 11g RAC on two blades, storage will be handled on an iSCSI SAN for which two NICs (via passthrough) will be connected leaving us with two NICs (via blade centre switches). We would like to have an interconnect (obviously) , an external IP and an internal IP. Would best practice be to: bond the remaining two interfaces and VLAN as appropriate to provide three virtual interfaces? run the interconnect on one interface and VLAN the external/internal interfaces? purchase a blade with more NICs as the above is a terrible idea? Another option? Please feel free to point out the blindingly obvious or to relevant documentation on support.oracle. I am specifically interested in supported configurations and best practices.   Dell Dimension 2350 with a Pentium IV processor and integrated video and network chips running Fedora12 does a "Sleeping Beauty" and I, apparently, am not am not a "handsome prince"! The system puts video and network to sleep and it will not wakeup. I have heard of this problem on laptops, but this is a tower. Any ideas or help is appreciated. I tried to ping the network card from another system and ping fails. The logs indicate that the system continues to be active. Pressing keyboard short-cut keys makes the disk light blink but neither the video or network card comes alive. Failing all else, are there any Linux commands that I could schedule in cron to pulse video and network adapters hourly that will keep them awake? Or, should I wait on Fedora13? Before this machine, I built a Dimension 2400 with Pentium IV and it had the same problem. Fedora9 on the same hardware is fine.

  At the moment, I possess a Dell Inspiron 6400. Just removing two screws, I've made the drive removable (look here) and I can pull it off in one second. The new Inspiron and Studio laptops don't support this anymore (the drive is no more on the side but on the back of the laptop). So I’m looking for a new laptop having this kind of feature, or one that can be modded easily.   I have a dell studio 1555 laptop with a GPU inside. The details are below; Hardware details Software details I can play games in widescreen in Vista, but not in 7. I am using Windows 7 Home Premium. I have the latest Catalyst Control Center. Instead of widescreen, the games are running in a classic style, say 1024x768 ratio. When I play need for speed underground, the maximum possible resolution is 1024x768 (all other games are like this). I have no problem with HD videos and anything else. How can I fix this?   I have a Dell Latitude E6420 laptop with Ubuntu 12.04 alongside Windows 7 (dual-boot) docked in a docking station with 2 DVI outputs. It took me a week of tinkering to get the dual external monitors to work in Ubuntu, and I had to disabled the "Optimus" feature in the BIOS. But now neither external monitor is detected in Windows, and the resolution is also very low. Do you know how I can successfully dual-boot Windows 7 and Ubuntu on this machine using my 2 external DVI monitors? • How to clean this Dell Precision M6400

  I have (well, ok, my employer has and I use) a Dell Precision M6400 notebook. It's a decent piece of hardware, but I have at least one major gripe: It's a dust and...uh...crumb (I repent! I repent!) magnet! And I cannot seem to exorcise the dust/crumbs from it! There is a strip of metal above the keyboard that is punched full of tiny holes. Well, maybe it's better to describe them as 'pits'. If a sufficiently small particle finds its way into one of those pits, there is only about a 50% that I will manage to get it out. Consequently, there is now a chorus of tiny little particles silently chiding me about eating cookies a cracker whilst I browse the intarwebs. Does anyone have any suggestions about how I could remove these particles from this machine...while still preserving the function of the machine?

  I'm using Windows 7 on a Dell laptop (Latitude D380). The laptop used to be incredibly stable on Windows XP, but now I experience frequent blue screens (with a message saying "MEMORY DUMP") when I open a lot of applications concurrently. Is there a way to diagnose the issue and track it down? It could be some incompatible drivers or application. I checked the folder C:\Windows\Minidump and I found some files. THen I tried to open them and they disappeared. Any hints?

• Hard Drive upgrade advice for a Dell PowerEdge 1950

  My setup is a Dell PowerEdge 1950 with 2x 140Gb Hard drives in a RAID 1 configuration. The OS is Windows 2003 Web Edition and disk is partitioned into to two, a 12Gb C: partition and the remainder is the D: drive. Both are very close to full capacity. Ideally I want to replace those drives with 2x 1Tb drives while retaining all data. First of all is this possible without rebuilding the server? If so, will I need any 3rd party software, Symantec Ghost, Partition Master for e.g., to do this? Any general advice as to how to go about doing this?

I'm trying to use the Windows XP audio driver as Windows 7 drivers aren't available for Optiplex 745 and Windows Vista driver is displaying that it's not compatible with my hardware. When I try to install the Windows XP audio driver, it's displaying an error HDA audio bus driver is required and not found The installation fails then. • Dell XT on Windows 7 never recovers from sleep

  My Dell XT, after upgrade to windows 7 ultimate seems to never recover from a sleep i.e. opening the lid shows a flicker, and then all lights go off. When I press the power button long enough it reboots and says that Windows had a serious error, blah blah (but no BSOD). Hibernate doesnt cause any problem, and that is what I am doing as default. Any idea how to debug more and fix it. Looked around (on web) for answer, tried related solutions (hotfixes for similar but not same problems) etc, but noting fixes this.

• Dell monitors keep blank after initial start

  We have Dell T1650 PCs with 2 nVidia graphic adapters / Windows 7 and 4 attached monitors. At initial start all screens are blank, the computer does not show anything. If powered off by pressing the hardware power button and then restarting all monitors show a picture. The Windows event log shows only the errors, that the machine was shut down unexpectedly. The last entry with blank screen seems to be that user specific dlls for every application are loaded. How can I find out the real problem?

  I was looking for a 24" monitor and bought the Dell 24" inch ultra sharp monitor which has DisplayPort( new keyword for me) seems it is equivalent to HDMI. Now I would like to enhance the display capabilities for my laptop and desktop(both have VGA output as of now). Couple of questions in mind: Is there a single HD graphic card which i could use for both desktop and laptop? I understand it has to be external but if its costly then I would stick on internal graphic card for my desktop. Please recommend external if its cost effective else I would go for internal one(Budget is around $70 or Rs 4000. Is there a HD card which I could use for both HD video and 5.1 channel audio output? I generally use the computer for office work/ listening music and watching movies, not gaming.
