  What is the max time do you think is acceptable for a web script (PHP for example) to execute before it starts to become an annoyance for the user (on average)? I always thought that if the user has to wait more than 1 second for the page to load (this of course after images and css have been cached..this rule really only applies for subsequent requests) they would start to get annoyed.

I can see that error message when executing manually, but I am failing to capture it through PHP.   Problem: In my current project, we use copy.asmx web services in SharePoint2010 to upload a document to a document library. In one of the document library, when uploading a document with a choice field, it blows up and the error message is Collection was modified; enumeration operation may not execute. Analysis: After some research , we found out the problem is that we have 2 content types that both have a field called Document Type , although the internal name are different but the display name are exactly the same and this cause the problem. I am still not too sure why, it could possibly a SharePoint bug. Solution: After rename one of the field display name to a different name, it works like a charm.   It can be anoying that jQuery event handlers always execute in the order they were bound. For example: $('span').click(doStuff1()); $('span').click(doStuff2()); clicking on the span will cause doStuff1() to fire, followed by doStuff2(). At the time I bind doStuff2(), I would like the option to bind it before doStuff1(), but there doesn't appear to be any easy way to do this. I suppose most people would say, just write the code like this: $('span').click(function (){ doStuff2(); doStuff1(); }); But this is just a simple example - in practise it is not always convienient to do that. There are situations when you want to bind an event, and the object you are binding to already has events. And in this case you may simply want the new event to fire before any other existing events. So what is the best way to achieve this in jQuery?

It involves a lot of file I/O, processing, etc. and it will execute a lot faster using the program I made in C instead of PHP. Do any hosts allow you to upload your own EXE files and run them on the server using PHP's exec, shell_exec, etc. functions? Do you need a dedicated server to do this?
