  I'd like to know what is the best procedure for doing a Tri-boot? I don't want to re-size windows partition I want to re-install it from scratch. I heard that it's better to install windows first, but will windows allow me to create the right partition structure? And what i the best structure? should I create a primary for windows and extended for everything else? • partitioning in ubuntu with gparted cant resize

  I opened gparted and as i can see i have 3 partitions(or i think so) first one sda1 (236 mb) its ext2 type file and its booting point, second one is sda2(rest of the hdd 1.36 tb) extended ntfs type file and i have third one that is within the sda2 called sda5 it takes the same space as sda 2 and its file type is crypt luks, so when i try to resize the sda2 i cant resize it not for even 1 mb, i dont know if that crypt luks file is causing the problem, so i dont know what to do, by the way i can format the crypt luks(sda5) file that in inside sda 2 but i dont know if i should.Can anyone help me please? here are the pictures when i open gparted when i try to resize sda 2 i think i did use encryption i mean while it is booting i type password and its says sda5/scrypt set up succefully or something like that and then it goes to my login screen where i type username and pass that is it

• Actor library / framework for C++

  In the C++ project I am working for we would like to use something like Scala actors and remote actors (see e.g. this tutorial). Being able to use remote actors (actors living in different processes, possibly on different machines and communicating via TCP/IP) has higher priority for us because we have an application consisting of several processes deployed on different machines. Being able to use several actors living in the same process (possibly different threads) is also interesting, but has lower priority for the moment. On wikipedia I have found some links to actor libraries for C++ and I have started to look at Theron. Before I dive too deep into the details and build an extended example with Theron, I wanted to ask if anybody has experience with any of these libraries and which one they would recommend.

  My colleague, Albert White, has published a useful article detailing how to set up local IPS repositories for use within an enterprise: How to Create Multiple Internal Repositories for Oracle Solaris 11 This is useful as most servers will not be directly connected to the Internet and most customers will want to control which Oracle Solaris SRUs (Support Repository Updates) are "qualified" for deployment within their organization.  Setting up and managing Internal IPS (Image Packaging System) Repositories is the way to do this. The concept can naturally be extended and adapted.  For example, Albert talks about a "Development" Repo containing the latest Oracle Solaris 11 deliverables.  When qualifying a software level for deployment across the enterprise, a copy of a specific level could be taken, e.g. "GoldenImage2012Q3" or "SRU8.5", and once it passes testing, be used to deploy across the enterprise.   I have a text file with a strange character encoding that I'd like to convert to standard UTF-8. I have managed to get part of the way: $ file myfile.txt myfile.txt: Non-ISO extended-ASCII text, with LF, NEL line endings $ iconv -f ascii -t utf-8 myfile.txt > myfile.txt.utf8 $ file myfile.txt.utf8 myfile.txt.utf8: UTF-8 Unicode text, with LF, NEL line endings ## edit myfile.txt.utf8 using nano, to fix failed character conversions (mostly åäö) $ file myfile.txt.utf8 myfile.txt.utf8: UTF-8 Unicode text, with LF, NEL line endings However, I can't figure out how to convert the line endings. • PLEASE HELP RECOVER MY MINT14 BOOT/GRUB [closed]

  Hi I have following from [bootinfoscript][1] v0.61 [1Apr-2012]: I tried to do several time to do a boot-repair from YannUbuntu. However, I get error rebooting into my Linux Mint 14 Cinnamon. I have partitioned /boot, /, /home partitions. Could I still use /home partition if I recover files on to external USB and then reformatting the whole hard drive, repartition and use /home from USB drive which I have saved before? Also, I tried to install Qubes 2beta and then deleted the partition where it was stored. Also, also {my bad} I tried to copy the BOOT.CFG from sda6 to sda1 and sda2. • How do I fix these compiler errors in Apple Crunch?

  I've been looking around and I finally got the full source code for a game called Apple-Crunch from Google Code. But when I put it into my project, the source code included so many errors in the class files such as: cannot be resolved into a type the constructor is undefined the method method() is undefined for the type Sprite class.java I downloaded the source directly from the command-line and noticed errors popping up on my project. Since I couldn't figure out how to import the actual folder into my workspace (it wouldn't show up on existing projects) I decided to copy and overwrite the folders into the project. The errors were still there so I looked at the class files and noticed that the classes with errors extended from RokonActivity. I then proceeded to add to the libs folder the Rokon library in hopes to fix the errors. Sadly it didn't work and now I don't what to do to fix the errors. How do I fix the errors without having to manually change the code? The source code should be fully functional so why are there errors?

  I want to go into Level design or Environment design and wondering if degrees are at all worth it for this area, as long as you have a good portfolio. I'm currently on a "Computing and Games Development" course and I feel like dropping out because I am not enjoying it. It's mostly computer based, which I'm not doing that great at, and little games Dev. But I don't know what do to... I do already have some high level education with a "Level 3 extended diploma". • Dual Boot Ubuntu and Windows 7: BOOTMGR is missing when I tried to boot in Windows

  So, I don't know what exactly how I managed to delete the MBR record on windows partition. But let me explain what I did next, I ran the ubuntu boot repair tool and now Windows is not even listed in my grub loader. So I went and booted with windows cd and choose repair. Then I ran ubuntu boot repair again via live cd. Here is the log http://paste.ubuntu.com/1426181/. Still no luck. Looks like osprobe can't detect windows on my /dev/sda2 partition. Any clues ? • Family History Website

  I want to develop a website that has family history information. Something like Ancestry.com but much simpler. I want to display photos, family tree, have logins and allow members to upload family photos,documents,stories and comments and have tags for the docs and photos and maybe a message board and blog. Also, this is not for the general public but just my extended family. I'd like each person to have their own page with a bio, pics and information. Is there anything that already does something like this? I don't want to waste time writing this if it already exists. thank you I'm familiar with asp.net and php.

• recover data in linux removed with rm

  Today i deleted my home directory (in wrong action) with: sudo rm -rf * And when i use extundelete i get this message: root@ubuntu:~# sudo extundelete --restore-directory /home/hamed/ /dev/sda2WARNING: Extended attributes are not restored. Loading filesystem metadata ... 746 groups loaded. Loading journal descriptors ... 29931 descriptors loaded. Searching for recoverable inodes in directory /home/hamed/ ... 498 recoverable inodes found. Looking through the directory structure for deleted files ... 498 recoverable inodes still lost. No files were undeleted. why it can't recover? Anyone can help me to return my Desktop, Documents and etc? I have ubuntu 14.04.

• GRUB- error: no such partition grub rescue and Error: No default or UI configuration directive found boot > on pendrive

  I have dell inspiron, previously I installed Ubuntu 11.10 on my Windows 7 and made it dual boot. But since I want to upgrade my Ubuntu version and change the partition spacing, I deleted 11.10 partition directly and extended my hardrive space (Windows + Ubuntu) at that moment everything was fine. Then I prepared a 12.04 32bit USB and installed it . It was installed but isn't showing dual boot option like 11.10 and my machine directly boot into Windows 7. So instantly i again deleted my 12.04 partition . Now I login into Windows 7 but whenever I put USB ( with 12.04 ) to boot from it, I am facing error of "no such partition grub rescue" even though I try to put lower version(11.04) it showing another error "Error: No default or UI configuration directive found boot " I have reinstall Windows 7 and reformat all partition, still I am facing same error :(

• SFML title bar with weird characters when using UTF-8

  (Previously asked at http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4922478/sfml-title-bar-with-weird-characters-when-using-utf-8) I've just started using SFML and one of the first problems I've come across is some weird characters on the the titlebar whenever I try to use accents or any other extended char. For instance, I've got: sf::RenderWindow Ventana(sf::VideoMode(800, 600, 32), "Año nuevóóó"); And the titlebar renders like AÂ+o nuevoA³A³A³ This ONLY HAPPENS if my source code file is enconded in UTF-8. If I change the file encoding to ISO-8859-1, it shows properly. Obviously all of my files use UTF-8, as its the system-wide encoding. I'm using GCC under Ubuntu GNU/Linux. I've tried using the different utilities in sf::Unicode to adapt the text, but none of them seems to work.

For example, game.of.thrones.s09.e06.mpg and game.of.thrones.s09.e06.srt Turn on my Smart-TV, connect to my DLNA Media Server (installed on my PC) Play game.of.thrones.s09.e06.mpg file and see the subtitles overlapped. • Grub messed up on dual boot machine - can't boot live usb

  I have a laptop on which I had Win 7 and Ubuntu 12.04 installed. The hdd has two partitions (one primary and one extended). Grub wasn't loaing initially so I ran the boot disk repair tool which seemed to sort it out. However, I mistakenly removed python (long story) from the Ubuntu OS and this obviously messed up Ubuntu a lot. So I decided to reintsall both Win7 and Ubuntu 12.04 in an attempt to get things back fresh. Win 7 went fine, but now when I try and use the Live USB to install Ubuntu I get: error: no such device: grub rescue I guess grub is still there despite the Win 7 reinstall and it can't find the partition for Ubuntu (which I deleted prior to the fresh install). I have tried fixmbr in windows console and the boot-repair-disk utility, but no joy. I cannot boot the live usb so no access to linux. A real mess. Any suggestions from the community?

I want to reformat and repartition the machine but as I'm far from being a linux guru, I'm afraid to erase something important that could have been preinstalled by Dell. On the disk, there are 3 partitions: /dev/sda1 - Ext4 Linux bootable 248GB - witch is the system+user partition I guess, /dev/sda2 - Extended (?) of 8GB - What is this partion about? /dev/sda5 - Linux Swap of 8GB - whitch is for RAM and need to be reconduct (why only 1xRAM and not 2?) Do I have to care about /dev/sda2 ? According to you can I reformat to create a partition for /home whitout losing anything important (except user data of course) ? Thank you for your help

  Till now I was windows user. From now on I want to use only Linux. I have 500Gb HDD. How do I partition it properly? I read that there is no right or wrong way, but still, I am confused. I did something and I have primary partition mounted on / (160Gb) which I believe is a OS and 350Gb extended partition of which I have 4Gb of swap and 346Gb mounted on /home. I got used to C:\ and D:\ partitioning, but I don't see file system in that way. I am lost. Where is what? How can I make C:\ partition for OS and D:\ for apps, movies, music, photos. Or what I want is Windows way and I have to get used to Linux way?

  USB is detecting but not showing the drives or mount details. Nothing there inside my /media folder and /mnt folder. I already enabled automatic mount and give privilege to user also. • Design leaderboard ratings for quiz games

  Back in March 2011 i started the following post: How to design a leaderboard? Now my quiz game have been out for approximately a year and sold pretty decently. I am working on to update the game design and is again looking into the leaderboard design to make it better as i am not happy with it. Currently i rate players on number of correct answers, which is not good as it does not consider things like number of games, difficulty levels etc. I also have "extended" stats behind the UITableView (Leaderboard). A player can play based on three levels of difficulty: hard, medium or easy Difficulty levels can be mixed between players in a game Each game can be one to six players, so there can be single games or duels Between 2 and 30 questions per game As i am considering integrating Game Center Leaderboard i need to design a better rating system so i would like to ask for some ideas how to do the rating based on the above. I am thinking about how much a point would be worth and what it includes.
