I wrote an article on my personal blog a few weeks ago about my preparation for my first Microsoft exam, 70-432. ( link ) Since then I’ve been reading and demo’ing all the relevant features of SQL Server in the hope that if I get questions on them I’ll be prepared. I’ve learnt a few things in the last couple of weeks, some good, some bad which I’ll now share. The first thing I found is that learning about how SQL Server works is fun and interesting, far better than spending an evening...(read more)

I think this is a very straighforward question, lets say i have a building in 2D, a rectangle shape. Now i want to decompose that area in a lot of convex shapes, as seen in a voronoi diagram, or closely like it, just so I can add those shapes to the physics engine, and have a realistic destruction.
Bonus: Possible suggestions on how to make the effect more dynamic and interesting.
Please keep in mind we re talking about realtime calculations..
With Report Builder and SSMS, there isn't much you can't do in the way of the common reports and visualisations. One of the more interesting visualisations uses maps, and that, combined with layers, makes for an impressive way of representing data.

<b>Handle With Linux:</b> "Home automation may seem like something most interesting for lazy people or people with very big houses, but it can actually save lots of time and money."
Another company that does chargeback has just been pointed out to me:
CloudCruiser
There is interesting quote on this company's web site:
"Accurate and transparent chargeback is a key requirement in this age of cloud computing. By 2015, we forecast more than 50% of the Global 2000 will charge back most IT costs using service-based pricing, up from less than 10% today. New integrated tools will be needed to implement IT service-based chargeback."

There are a lot of questions about what programming books should be on the programmer's bookshelf. How about non-programming related books that can help you become a better programmer or developer? It would also be interesting to know why they would help.
My first choice would be Sun Tzu's "Art of War" (however cliché), because it made it obvious that the success of any project depends on the strength of its weakest link (and warfare is a big project).
During presentations about doing database backups and restores, there seem to be two two types of questions that are commonly asked, Those that come from the floor during the presentation, and those that are asked in private afterwards. These are sometimes more interesting, and challenging to answer well.

Along the lines of patching...
While it is not 100% in our LOB, it might still be interesting for some of our readers:
The Oracle critical patch update Advisory for October 2012
You will find a very detailed List with links to patches and matrices on that overview page for products ranging from Database via E-Business Suite to MySQL.
Of course you can find patches for Identity Management, SOA and Weblogic also via the "Master Note on Fusion Middleware Proactive Patching - Patch Set Updates (PSUs) and Bundle Patches (BPs) [ID 1494151.1]"

I'm keen to use some of the new features in Google Universal Analytics.
I have an old site though that I don't want to lose the historical data for. The comparisons with historical data are interesting for example.
However Google doesn't appear to allow you to change a property from the classic code to the new code.
Am I missing something?
I'm surprised this isn't a bigger issue for many other users.
I have a very large SVN repository (working copy of several gb) that has just reached its 20,000th checkin. As a bit of an interesting statistic for our team (and to partly celebrate our 20,000th checkin) I'd like to make a graph showing which folders in the repository have had the most checkins.
Is there any way to do this? We mostly use integrated SVN clients in our IDE and Tortoise SVN, but I'm willing to get other tools for this one-off thing.
In case you haven't noticed, Google recently unveiled a new design for its search results pages that gives users access to some new, interesting search options. The new design may not be immediately noticeable, but when you do a search from Google's home page, you can now see a new, left-hand column on each results page.

Interesting little situation occurred today, the person I was working with was trying to add a login to a server and was getting the following error. “The server principal '<domain>\User' already exists” They were using a command like this and couldn’t figure out why they were getting the error above because when they looked at the logins setup on the system the login definitely didn’t exist. CREATE LOGIN [<domain>\<user>] FROM WINDOWS WITH DEFAULT_DATABASE = [master] The...(read more)

As part of research I am doing into functional concurrent programming, I am looking to develop a prototype business application (or otherwise), that requires and supports parallelism.
So I will first develop this application in java 7, followed by scala and then clojure while demonstrating the concurrent support in each language.
However, I am a little short on suitable ideas and therefore i'm hoping I can get some good, interesting ideas on this thread.
Thanks!
