  • Unmanaged DLL in C# Web Service

    - by Telis
Hi Guys, please help µe as I am new into accessing an unmanaged DLL from C#.. I have a large unmanaged DLL in C++ and I am trying to access the DLL's classes and functions from a C# Web Service. I have seen many examples how to use DLLImport, but for some reason I am stuck with my very first wrapper method spending many hours with no luck.. What should I do to return an object in my 'Marshaled' [DllImport..] function? I would like to do something like that: [DllImport("unmanaged.dll")] public static extern MyClass MyFunction(); Here is the definition of my C++ class and the function that I want to access: class __declspec(dllexport) TPDate { public: TPDate(); TPDate(const TPDate& rhs); ... //today's date. static TPDate AsOfDate(void); ... } In my Web service I have declared the following StructLayout: [StructLayout(LayoutKind.Sequential)] public class TPDate { public TPDate(TPDate d) { _tpDate = d; } public TPDate _tpDate; } and here's where I think that I'm not doing something right: class WrapperTPDate { [DllImport("TPTools.dll", ExactSpelling=false, EntryPoint = "?AsOfDate@TPDate@@SA?AV1@XZ", CallingConvention = CallingConvention.StdCall)] [return: MarshalAs(UnmanagedType.Struct)] **public static extern TPDate AsOfDate();**// HERE THERE IS PROBLEM }; I am calling the wrapper as follows from my WebMethod: [WebMethod] public void ConstructModel() { TPDate date1 = WrapperTPDate.AsOfDate();// Here I get exception TPDate date = new TPDate(date1); } The exception i am getting is: System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: Server was unable to process request. ---> System.Runtime.InteropServices.MarshalDirectiveException: Cannot marshal 'return value': Invalid managed/unmanaged type combination (this type must be paired with LPStruct or Interface). If I change it to LPSTRUCT, I am getting another exception: System.Web.Services.Protocols.SoapException: Server was unable to process request. ---> System.AccessViolationException: Attempted to read or write protected memory. This is often an indication that other memory is corrupt Could you please tell me where I'm doing wrong here Thanks

  • Compiling a DLL which includes Ogre3D gives an assertion error when used

    - by samaursa
Hi, I have a framework that I am building and is being compiled into a static library to be used by other projects. The library works perfectly without issues. The problem is that the link time is very long for the projects that use the library so I thought I will make a DLL project of the same framework. I started with baby steps and created an MFC DLL project through visual studio. The project has the following header: /// -------------------------------------------- #ifndef OGRECORE_H #define OGRECORE_H #ifdef OGREFW_EXPORT #define OGREFW_DLL __declspec(dllexport) #else #define OGREFW_DLL __declspec(dllimport) #endif class OgreRoot; namespace OgreFW { class OGREFW_DLL OgreCore// : public OIS::KeyListener, public OIS::MouseListener { public: OgreCore(); ~OgreCore(); }; }; #endif // OGRECORE_H and this is the source #include "stdafx.h" #include "OgreCore.h" //#include "Ogre.h" //#include "OgreRoot.h" //#include "OgreRenderWindow.h" //#include "OgreLog.h" //#include "OgreLogManager.h" //#include "OgreOverlay.h" //#include "OgreViewport.h" //#include "OgreRenderWindow.h" //#include "OgreFrameListener.h" //#include "OgreWindowEventUtilities.h" //#include "OgreSceneNode.h" //#include "OgreEntity.h" //#include "OgreManualObject.h" //#include "OgreMeshManager.h" //#include "OgreConfigFile.h" //#include "OgreOverlayContainer.h" //#include "OgreOverlayManager.h" namespace OgreFW { OGREFW_DLL OgreCore::OgreCore() { } // ------------------------ OGREFW_DLL OgreCore::~OgreCore() { } } As you can see I have commented out Ogre includes. When a project uses the compiled DLL and constructs this (OgreCore) class, it works perfectly fine. As soon as uncomment one of the Ogre includes and compile the DLL again, the project that uses the DLL now gives an assertion error. The full details can be found here in the Ogre forum post. I posted the question there first but since its not really an Ogre specific question I thought I will try here as well. The link to the Ogre post is: http://www.ogre3d.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=58403 Thank you in advance

  • FormatException with IsolatedStorageSettings

    - by Jurgen Camilleri
I have a problem when serializing a Dictionary<string,Person> to IsolatedStorageSettings. I'm doing the following: public Dictionary<string, Person> Names = new Dictionary<string, Person>(); if (!IsolatedStorageSettings.ApplicationSettings.Contains("Names")) { //Add to dictionary Names.Add("key", new Person(false, new System.Device.Location.GeoCoordinate(0, 0), new List<GeoCoordinate>() { new GeoCoordinate(35.8974, 14.5099), new GeoCoordinate(35.8974, 14.5099), new GeoCoordinate(35.8973, 14.5100), new GeoCoordinate(35.8973, 14.5099) })); //Serialize dictionary to IsolatedStorage IsolatedStorageSettings.ApplicationSettings.Add("Names", Names); IsolatedStorageSettings.ApplicationSettings.Save(); } Here is my Person class: [DataContract] public class Person { [DataMember] public bool Unlocked { get; set; } [DataMember] public GeoCoordinate Location { get; set; } [DataMember] public List<GeoCoordinate> Bounds { get; set; } public Person(bool unlocked, GeoCoordinate location, List<GeoCoordinate> bounds) { this.Unlocked = unlocked; this.Location = location; this.Bounds = bounds; } } The code works the first time, however on the second run I get a System.FormatException at the if condition. Any help would be highly appreciated thanks. P.S.: I tried an IsolatedStorageSettings.ApplicationSettings.Clear() but the call to Clear also gives a FormatException. I have found something new...the exception occurs twenty-five times, or at least that's how many times it shows up in the Output window. However after that, the data is deserialized perfectly. Should I be worried about the exceptions if they do not stop the execution of the program? • SQL Compact error: Unable to load DLL 'sqlceme35.dll'. The specified module could not be found

    - by Ciaran Bruen
Hi - I'm developing a Winforms application using Visual Studio 2008 C# that uses a SQL compact 3.5 database on the client. The client will most likely be 32 bit XP or Vista machines. I'm using a standard Windows Installer project that creates an msi file and setup.exe to install the app on a client machine. I'm new to SQL compact so I haven't had to distribute a client database like this before now. When I run the setup.exe (on new Windows XP 32 bit with SP2 and IE 7) it installs fine but when I run the app I get the error below: Unable to load DLL 'sqlceme35.dll'. The specified module could not be found I spent a few hours searching this error already but all I can find are issues relating to installing on 64 bit Windows, none relating to normal 32 bit that I'm using. The install app copies the all the dependant files that it found into the specified install directory, including the System.Data.SqlServerCe.dll file (assembly version 3.5.1.0). The database file is in a directory called 'data' off the application directory, and the connection string for it is <add name="Tickets.ieOutlet.Properties.Settings.TicketsLocalConnectionString" connectionString="Data Source=|DataDirectory|\data\TicketsLocal.sdf" providerName="Microsoft.SqlServerCe.Client.3.5" /> Some questions I have: should the app be able to find the dll if it's in the same directory i.e. local to the app, or do I need to install it in the GAC? (If so cam I use the Windows Installer to install a dll in the GAC?) is there anything else I need to distribute with the app in order to use a Sql Compact database? there are other dlls also such as MS interop for exporting data to Excel on the client. Do these need to be installed in the GAC or will locating them in the application directory suffice? TIA, Ciaran.

  • MagicLibrary.dll 32bit convert for 64bit

    - by Nullstr1ng
Hi Guys, I recently received an email about a guy who like to make my software compatible with 64Bit Windows 7 OS. I have 1 single problem though .. I have followed a steps regarding on compiling VS Solution/Project for 64bit. But when I start to to compile the solution for 64bit, this "Crownwood.Magic.Forms" (MagicLibrary.dll) doesn't work anymore. This is the compilation error message "Error 6 The type or namespace name 'Crownwood' could not be found (are you missing a using directive or an assembly reference?)" Please don't tell me I did not referenced the MagicLibrary.dll It's a bit of confusing because the MagicLibrary.dll is already in my reference list. I also remove and add it back. There was this CorFlags.exe but am not sure how to convert it to 64bit. "CorFlags MagicLibrary.dll /32BIT- /Force" did not work.. :( Please help. Thanks in advance - Jayson

  • How can I make a fixed hex editor?

    - by Kevin
So. Let's say I were to make a hex editor to edit... oh... let's say a .DLL file. How can I edit a .DLL file's hex by using C# or C++? And for the "fixed part", I want to make it so that I can browse from the program for a specific .DLL, have some pre-coded buttons on the programmed file, and when the button is pressed, it will automatically execute the requested action, meaning the button has been pre-coded to know what to look for in the .DLL and what to change it to. Can anyone help me get started on this?

  • System halts for a fraction of second after every 2-3 seconds

    - by iSam
I'm using Windows 7 on my HP ProBook 4250s. The problem I face is that my system halts for a fraction of second after every 2-3 seconds. These jerks are not letting me concentrate or work properly. This happens even when I'm just typing in notepad while no other application is running. I tried to install every driver from HP's website and there's no item in device manager marked with yellow icon. • Stack calling convention between .NET & C on WinCE 6.0

    - by bernard
Hi there. I'm porting a DLL written in C from WinCE 5.0 to WinCE 6.0 on an ARM target. This DLL is called by a .NET software. On WinCE5.0, everything runs fine. On WinCE6, I have the following problem: on InitInstance() of my DLL, I can call anything without problem (for example MessageBox()) or uses recursivity. Passed that point, the DLL is called by .NET code. And then it fails: even the arguments passed by .NET code seem weird. I can call MessageBox() once, but I can't call a function that calls MessageBox() and then that calls itself: recursivity is broken. It seems that the .NET code uses the stack in a different way than my C code. I'm very unfamillar with the Windows world and the company that gives me the .NET application does not understand yet why there is such a failure. Any pointer/hint/advice welcome! Thanks!

  • Updating a DLL in a Production ASP.NET Web Site bin folder

    - by Josh Stodola
I want to update a class library (a single DLL file) in a production web application. This web app is pre-compiled (published). I read an answer on StackOverflow (sorry, can't seem to find it anymore because the Search function does not work very well), that led me to believe that I could just paste the new DLL in the bin folder and it would be picked up without problems (this would cause the WP to recycle, which is fine with me because we do not use InProc session state). However, when I tried this, my site blows up and gives a FileLoadException saying that the assembly manifest definition does not match the assembly reference. What in the world is this?! Updating the DLL in Visual Studio and re-deploying the entire site works just fine, but it is a huge pain in the rear. What is the point of having a separate DLL if you have to re-deploy the entire site to implement any changes? Here's the question: How can I update a DLL on a production web site without breaking the app and without re-deploying all of the files?

  • C# DllImport with c++ const char* not working correctly

    - by Shammah
I have the following function in a C++ DLL extern "C" __declspec(dllexport) bool Exist(const char* name) { //if (g_Queues.find(name) != g_Queues.end()) // return true; //else // return false; return false; } Inside my C# class I have the following: [DllImport("Whisper.dll", EntryPoint="Exist", CallingConvention=CallingConvention.Cdecl)] public static extern bool Exist(string name); Yet, whenever I call my function it ALWAYS returns true, even when I commented out my little function and made it return false. I have the feeling there is something wrong with my calling convention or any other issue with P/Invoking my DLL, probably corresponding with the string and const char*, but for now I am completely clueless. What am I doing wrong? Why does it return true instead of false? EDIT: I have figured out this has nothing to do with the const char* or string, because the problem persists with an empty function. I've tried changing the calling convention between Cdecl and StdCall and neither work correctly. I've also managed to debug my DLL and it's being called correctly and does indeed return false, but once back into C# it somehow is true. Changing the CharSet also had no effect. I've made sure I've supplied my C# program with the latest and correct version of my DLL each time, so that shouldn't be an issue aswell. Again, I am completely clueless on why the result is true when I'm in fact returning false. EDIT2: SOReader provided me with a suggestion which fixes another important issue, see my comment. Sadly, it does not fix the return issue.

  • C# Dll config file

    - by MegaByte
Hi Im trying to add a app.config file to my dll, but all attempts have failed. According to MusicGenesis in 'Putting configuration information in a DLL' this should not be a problem. So obviously im doing something wrong... The following code should return my connectionstring from my dll : return ConfigurationManager.AppSettings["ConnectionString"]; However, when I copy the app.config file to my console application, it works fine. Any ideas?

  • Why does calling CreateDXGIFactory prevent my program from exiting?

    - by smoth190
    I'm using CreateDXGIFactory to get the graphics adapters and display modes. When I call it, it works fine and I get all the data. However, when I exit my program, the main Win32 thread exits, but something stays open because it keeps debugging. Does CreateDXGIFactory create an extra thread and I'm not closing it? I don't understand. The only thing I would suspect is that in the documentation it says it doesn't work if it's called from DllMain. It is in a DLL, but it's not called from DllMain. And it doesn't fail, either. I'm using DirectX 11. Here is the function that initializes DirectX. I haven't gotten past retrieving the refresh rate because of this problem. I commented everything out to pinpoint the problem. bool CGraphicsManager::InitDirectX(HWND hWnd, int width, int height) { HRESULT result; IDXGIFactory* factory; IDXGIOutput* output; IDXGIAdapter* adapter; DXGI_MODE_DESC* displayModes; DXGI_ADAPTER_DESC adapterDesc; unsigned int modeCount = 0; unsigned int refreshNum = 0; unsigned int refreshDen = 0; //First, we need to get the monitors refresh rater result = CreateDXGIFactory(__uuidof(IDXGIFactory), (void**)&factory); //if(FAILED(result)) //{ //MemoryUtil::MessageBoxError(TEXT("InitDirectX"), 0, 0, TEXT("Failed to create DXGI factory\nError:\n%s"), DXGetErrorDescription(result)); //return false; //} /*//Create a graphics card adapter result = factory->EnumAdapters(0, &adapter); if(FAILED(result)) { MemoryUtil::MessageBoxError(TEXT("InitDirectX"), 0, 0, TEXT("Failed to get graphics adapters\nError:\n%s"), DXGetErrorDescription(result)); return false; } //Get the output result = adapter->EnumOutputs(0, &output); if(FAILED(result)) { MemoryUtil::MessageBoxError(TEXT("InitDirectX"), 0, 0, TEXT("Failed to get adapter output\nError:\n%s"), DXGetErrorDescription(result)); return false; } //Get the modes result = output->GetDisplayModeList(DXGI_FORMAT_R8G8B8A8_UNORM, DXGI_ENUM_MODES_INTERLACED, &modeCount, 0); if(FAILED(result)) { MemoryUtil::MessageBoxError(TEXT("InitDirectX"), 0, 0, TEXT("Failed to get mode count\nError:\n%s"), DXGetErrorDescription(result)); return false; } displayModes = new DXGI_MODE_DESC[modeCount]; result = output->GetDisplayModeList(DXGI_FORMAT_R8G8B8A8_UNORM, DXGI_ENUM_MODES_INTERLACED, &modeCount, displayModes); if(FAILED(result)) { MemoryUtil::MessageBoxError(TEXT("InitDirectX"), 0, 0, TEXT("Failed to get display modes\nError:\n%s"), DXGetErrorDescription(result)); return false; } //Now we need to find one for our screen size for(unsigned int i = 0; i < modeCount; i++) { if(displayModes[i].Width == (unsigned int)width) { if(displayModes[i].Height == (unsigned int)height) { refreshNum = displayModes[i].RefreshRate.Numerator; refreshDen = displayModes[i].RefreshRate.Denominator; break; } } } //Store the video card data result = adapter->GetDesc(&adapterDesc); if(FAILED(result)) { MemoryUtil::MessageBoxError(TEXT("InitDirectX"), 0, 0, TEXT("Failed to get adapter description\nError:\n%s"), DXGetErrorDescription(result)); return false; } m_videoCard = new CVideoCard(); MemoryUtil::CreateGameObject(m_videoCard); m_videoCard->VideoCardMemory = (unsigned int)(adapterDesc.DedicatedVideoMemory); wcstombs_s(0, m_videoCard->VideoCardDescription, 128, adapterDesc.Description, 128);*/ //ReleaseCOM(output); //ReleaseCOM(adapter); ReleaseCOM(factory); //DeletePointerArray(displayModes); return true; } Also, I don't know if this means anything, but this is some of the output log when the function is commented out: //...   • xperf can't load my DLL's symbols

    - by dauphic
I'm trying to use xperf to profile my DLL, but it refuses to use my DLL's PDB file. Running xperf on the .etl with -symbols, I get: DBGHELP: mydll- private symbols & lines C:\mydll\debugu\mydll.pdb - unmatched Which leads me to believe it thinks my PDB doesn't match the DLL the application is using. This is wrong; it does match. I've confirmed the path of the DLL the application is linking with using procexp, completely rebuilt the project, and so on. It still thinks it doesn't match. Any ideas on what could be wrong?

  • using C function in C#

    - by andrew
i have a dll, built with mingw one of the header files contains this: extern "C" { int get_mac_address(char * mac); //the function returns a mac address in the char * mac } I use this dll in another c++ app, built using Visual C++ (2008SP1), not managed, but plain c++ (simply include the header, and call the function) But now I have to use it in a C# application The problem is that i can't figure out how exactly (i'm new in .net programming) this is what i've tried public class Hwdinfo { [DllImport("mydll.dll")] public static extern void get_mac_address(string s); } When i call the function, nothing happens (the mydll.dll file is located in the bin folder of the c# app, and it gives me no errors or warnings whatsoever)

  • passing unicode string from C# exe to C++ DLL

    - by Martin
Using this function in my C# exe, I try to pass a Unicode string to my C++ DLL: [DllImport("Test.dll", CharSet = CharSet.Unicode, CallingConvention = CallingConvention.StdCall)] public static extern int xSetTestString(StringBuilder xmlSettings); This is the function on the C++ DLL side: __declspec(dllexport) int xSetTestString(char* pSettingsXML); Before calling the function in C#, I do a MessageBox.Show(string) and it displays all characters properly. On the C++ side, I do: OutputDebugStringW((wchar_t*)pString);, but that shows that the non-ASCII characters were replaced by '?'.

  • PHP won't parse MySQL statements

    - by Hussain
I just installed Apache 2.2.15/PHP 5.3.2/MySQL 5.1.44 on Windows Vista. Apache is working fine, PHP is functional, and MySQL works on the CLI. However, when I try to access MySQL via PHP, I get an error (Fatal error: Call to undefined function mysql_connect()). extension=php_mysql.dll and extension=php_mbstring.dll are uncommented in the php.ini file, and PHP is in the system path. There is no libmysql.dll in either the top level PHP directory or the ext directory. There's a libmySQL.dll file in the MySQL bin directory (which is also in the system path); I tried renaming it, but that doesn't do anything Also, in case anyone wants to know, I originally installed PHP using the MSI installer, but it was missing some DLLs, so I installed from the zip file. I think I've exhausted all my options. Any help on this problem would be very appreciated. Thanks in advance.

  • How to call functions inside a C dll which take pointers as arguments from C#

    - by AndrejaKo
Hi people, this is my first post here! I'm trying to make a windows forms program using C# which will use a precompiled C library. It will access a smart card and provide output from it. For the library, I have a .dll, .lib and .h and no source. In the .h file there are several structs defined. Most interesting functions of the .dll expect pointers to allocated structs as arguments. I've been calling functions inside the .dll like this: For example function EID_API int WINAPI EidStartup(int nApiVersion); would be called like this [DllImport("CelikApi.dll")]//the name of the .dll public static extern int EidStartup(int nApiVersion); Now my problem is that I can't find equivalent of C's pointers which point to dynamically allocated structures in memory in C#, so I don't know what to pass as argument to functions which take C pointers. I don't have much experience in C#, but to me its use looked as the easiest way of making the program I need. I tried with C++, but Visual Studio 2010 doesn't have IntelliSense for C++/CLR. If you can point me to something better, feel free to do so.
