• jPlayer problem in Firefox - also throws error from jQuery?! Not related to OGG support.

  I've been working on a small SVG website, http://docroot.ca/ - the SVG part has been working out pretty well. In the current site, jPlayer is called and given an mp3. jPlayer functions properly in Safari, Chrome, and Opera, but not Firefox which throws the following two errors: Error: not well-formed Source File: Line: 1, Column: 191 Source Code: <div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><embed name="jqjp_flash_0" id="jqjp_flash_0" src="js/Jplayer.swf" width="0" height="0" bgcolor="#ffffff" quality="high" FlashVars="id=jPlayerBox&fid=jqjp_flash_0&vol=80" allowScriptAccess="always" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" /></ and: Error: uncaught exception: [Exception... • jQuery using .animate() fails to do ANYTHING in IE8

  So, it's official: I hate Internet Explorer. Yes, all bloody versions of it. :-D So, I didn't think I was doing anything complicated here, but apparently I am. I have a bunch of list items in an unordered list styled for a navigation menu, and in Firefox, Chrome, Safari, and Opera, things work fine. What is supposed to happen is when you hover a navigational item, it should animate some growth and animate a background color change. Nothing happens in Internet Explorer 7/8. I think it's just tied to the animate function, since if I swap .animate with .css, it works. http://project-cypher.net/wtf/ Ideas?

• Django + WebKit = Broken pipe

  I'm running the Django 1.2 development server and I get these Broken Pipe error messages whenever I load a page from it with Chrome or Safari. My co-worker is getting the error as well when he loads a page from his dev server. We don't have these errors when using Opera or Firefox. • jquery ui modal dialog problems in IE

  I use jquery ui dialog widget. Everything works fine in FF, Opera etc., except IE. The problem is that when dialog is opened in Internet Explorer, some space (not covered with that "modal gray layer") is added at the bottom of the document, and page is scrolled to the bottom. So I don't even see the dialog, I have to scroll up, to see it fully. Anyone had that problems? Any solutions? EDIT: now I see, that this "bottom space" is also added in FireFox, but it doesn't scroll to it like in IE.

When you move your mouse over there small text shows up that says: Napredna pretraga Now, for some reason those letters change color to like yellow for very short period of time in ff 3.5 and to some strange color in safari 4.0.2 for win. In ie8, opera and chrome it works just the way it should, white letters stay white during the animation. • Site hosted with Blogger has some display problems in IE

  Hello guys..My site url is : Da Factopedia It opens up perfectly in all browsers Firefox, Opera, Safari, Chrome. Even in IE 8 the Home page is perfectly displayed . • internet explorer 7 iframe unloads when going back

  Hi this is my first post here, so please be kind ;-) i'm implementing a browser history manager, just like rsh or yui browser history manager. The idea was not to constantly poll the url hash of a hidden iframe, but to capture the onscroll event of an iframe, when it scrolls to an anchor name on an urlhashchange. So on every click i add an new anchor to iframe and set the iframe's hash to the anchors name. When pressing the back or forward button the frame scrolls to the previous or next anchor and the onscroll event is fired. That works great on firefox 3.0+, IE6 and Opera but on IE7 when hiting the back button the frame unloads and loses all its anchors. • Palm webOS CSS Targeting Hack?

  Although it is not good practice, I am looking for a CSS hack to target Palm webOS. The problem is that Safari 3+ is awesome, and I can do some things like gradient background animations on text, but only in Safari. Right now I use @media screen and (-webkit-min-device-pixel-ratio:0) {} and it works like a charm, no Opera, Firefox, or whatever, because if I set the background to the image as I do in Safari they will all be ruined. But Palm's browser is based on webkit, and it uses the rules inside, and Palm's browser doesn't support text backgrounds so all I get is the image moving, no text. I would prefer a CSS hack, but if need be a Javascript one will do.

• Why does bold monoface shift vertically on Windows?

  In Firefox 3.6, IE7 and Opera 10 on Windows, this HTML has an odd behavior: <html><head></head> <style> span { font-family: monospace; background-color: green; } span.b { font-weight: bold; } </style> <body> <span>Text</span><span class="b">Text</span><span>Text</span> </body> </html> The bold span in the middle is shifted down by one pixel. That doesn't happen for other fonts. Why is that? How can I fix it?

• IE8 no honoring display:none

  I have the following markup on a page and unfortunately I do not have direct access to it. . This page is opened in an iframe. There is other code on the page but it is not relevant so I have not posted it. The only access to target the code in via css. I want to not display the close button so I added this to the css file img[alt='Close'] {display:none !important;} this is the markup <td align="center"><a href='javascript:window.close()'><img src='v/vspfiles/templates/100/images/buttons/btn_close.gif' alt='Close' border=0></a></td> It works as expected in all browsers that i have tested (firefox, Opera, Safari) but in IE8 it seems to ignore this css and shows the button. Not sure if it doesn't like the selector or perhaps I have a syntax error. Not sure where to go from here.

• IE7,8 Alpha PNG fade

  Does anyone know what is causing this issue? http://i.imgur.com/z1pzh.png The div in question has a solid 1x1 alpha opaque png repeating in its background-image property, and it's supposed to be all one bg color, not that fading effect. It doesn't appear in FF, Opera or Chrome. If you need more details, I can provide some CSS, but I assure you the CSS is in order. If someone doesn't just out-and-out know why this is happening, they more than likely won't find an answer looking in the code.

• Unable to view GWT 2.0.1 application in IE8.

  Hi, I'm creating an application using GWT 2.0.1; it complies 6 computations and runs well in all browsers except IE8, it shows a blank page( but can be viewed in IE8 compatibility mode) . When I add the line in my gwt.xml <set-property name="user.agent" value="ie8" / > it compiles just 1 permutation and the application displays fine in IE8. However if I add the line lt;set-property name="user.agent" value="ie8,gecko,gecko1_8,safari,opera" /gt; it compiles all permutations, but the application still cannot be viewed in IE8 but runs properly in all other browsers. Is there any other method to ensure my application will run in all browsers ?

• Browser popup blocker blocking jasper reports generated from flex

  Hi all, I have a flex application that uses navigateToURL() to call a servlet. The servlet in turn generates a JasperReport and then uses exportReport() to show the report in a new browser tab. Now, my problem is this. I want to generate multiple reports at once, each opening in its own tab. It all works fine except that in Firefox the built in browser pop-up blocker sees every new tab that is opened after the first report tab as a pop-up. It blocks this and is giving me endless headaches. I also tried this in IE8, Safari, Chrome and Opera with no problems. Any help as to how I can get past the Firefox pop-up blocker would be much appreciated. Pieter

• PHP upload file using PUT instead of POST

  I read something about this on PHP docs, but it's not celar to me: Do the most widely used browsers (IE, FF, Chrome, Safari, Opera, ...) support this PUT method to uplaod files? What HTML should I write to make the browser call the server via PUT request. I mean do I need to write a FORM with an INPUT file field and just replace the attribute method="POST" with the method="PUT"? On the PHP docs (link above) they say a PUT request is much simplier than a POST request when uploading file, along with this advantage, what other advantages/disadvanatges do the PUT has comapred to teh POST? • Jquery SimpleModal flickers in Firefox

  I'm using SimpleModal plugin for Jquery and I have a weird problem with Firefox ( other browsers work fine: Chrome, Safari, Opera, IE). What happens is when I click on the button that launches the modal dialog, before showing the modal (and the fadeIn of the overlay), there is a quick "flicker", less than half a second. (It's longer on my slower PC). Weird thing is, it didn't happen in Firefox 3.5.2, but when I upgraded to 3.6.3, I got the flicker. Any ideas? • What to use to create bar, line and pie charts with javascript compatible with all major browsers?

  I used to work with flot but it doesn't support pie charts so I'm forced to change. I just saw JS Charts, but their documentation is very obscure regarding cross browser compatibility (I need it to be IE6+ compliant :). Also this will be for commercial use, so I'd rather have something that I can use free of charge jQuery Google chart looks really nice and is well integrated with rails (the framework I'm using) but I'm not sure how good it is. So what do you guys use? • simplemodal contact form does not close after sending mail in ie8

  hi, i am using the simplemodal contact form for my website. it works perfectly on safari, firefox and opera on mac os, and firefox and chrome on windows. the only issue i have is with ie8. when i click the "send" button the mail is actually sent but i get an error message (alert window with "unknown" in it) and then everything seems to be in some infinite loop with the "loading.gif" turning and turning. it never gets to the step where i ahve the message "your mail has been sucessfully sent" although like i said the mail is sent. any idea where the problem is coming from ? thanks for your help. frank

  Here is my problem - I have a lot of users using different browsers accessing many internal web sites using https. I can create my own Certificate Authority, than create a certificate for each server and after that have all the users import it. Obviously, it cannot work in reality - there are too many users and too many sites, and some sites will be added in the future. I'm looking for a way to automate this. Is there a way to create a certificate so that all major browsers (IE, FF, Opera, Chrome and Safari) would trust it for all servers ? If so, what is the best way to install it automatically in all major browsers ?
