• SQL Server 2008 R2 and copy-only default value in SQL Server Management Studio

  We are using Tivoli Storage Manager for taking backups of the database but sometimes our consultants need to take separate backup copies of the database using Management Studio. If they forget to mark the "copy-only" flag in Management Studio they will mess up the Tivoli's backups (we are running our databases in FULL-recovery mode). Is there a way to set the default value of the Copy-Only flag to true in the Management Studio's "Back Up Database"-window?

• First Day of Data Integration Track at Oracle OpenWorld 2012

  OpenWorld started full speed for us today with a great set of sessions in the Data Integration track. After the exciting keynote session on Oracle Database 12c in the morning; Brad Adelberg, VP of Development for Data Integration products, presented Oracle’s data integration product strategy. His session highlighted the new requirements for data integration to achieve pervasive and continuous access to trusted data. The new requirements and product focus areas presented in this session are: Provide access to any data at any source On premise or on cloud Enable zero downtime operations and maximum performance Leverage real-time data for accurate business insights And ensure high quality data is used across the enterprise During the session Brad walked over how Oracle’s data integration products, Oracle Data Integrator, Oracle GoldenGate, Oracle Enterprise Data Quality, and Oracle Data Service Integrator, deliver on these requirements and how recent product releases build on this strategy. Soon after Brad’s session we heard from a panel of Oracle GoldenGate customers, St. Jude Medical, Equifax, and Bank of America, how they achieved zero downtime operations using Oracle GoldenGate. The panel presented different use cases of GoldenGate, from Active-Active replication to offloading reporting. Especially St. Jude Medical’s implementation, which involves the alert management system for patients that use their pacemakers, reminded me in some cases downtime of mission-critical systems can be a matter of life or death. It is very comforting to hear that GoldenGate delivers highly-reliable continuous availability for life-saving medical systems. In the afternoon, Nick Wagner from the Product Management team and I followed the customer panel with the review of Oracle GoldenGate 11gR2’s New Features.  Many questions we received from audience were about GoldenGate’s new Integrated Capture for Oracle Database and the enhanced Conflict Management features, as well as how GoldenGate compares to Oracle Streams. In addition to giving details on GoldenGate’s unique capability to capture changed data with a direct integration to the Oracle DBMS engine, we reminded the audience that enhancements to Oracle GoldenGate will continue, while Streams will be primarily maintained. Last but not least, Tim Garrod and Ryan Fonnett from Raymond James presented a unified real-time data integration solution using Oracle Data Integrator and GoldenGate for their operational data store (ODS). The ODS supports application services across the enterprise and providing timely data is a critical requirement. In this solution, Oracle GoldenGate does the log-based change data capture for Oracle Data Integrator’s near real-time data integration between heterogeneous systems. As Raymond James’ ODS supports mission-critical services for their advisors, the project team had to set up this integration environment to be highly available. During the session, Ryan and Tim explained how they use ODI to enable automated process execution and “always-on” integration processes. Their presentation included 2 demonstrations that focused on CDC patterns deployed with ODI and the automated multi-instance execution and monitoring. We are very grateful to Tim and Ryan for their very-well prepared presentation at OpenWorld this year. Day 2 (Tuesday) will be also a busy day in our track. And, fortunately we are not alone in this sentiment. Since the press announcement October 17th, which incorporates our customers' and experts' testimonials, we have seen positive comments in leading technology publications and social media as well. Here are some examples: In CIO and PCWorld you can find Joab Jackson’s article, Oracle Data Integrator 12c ready for real-time analysis, where wrote about the tight integration between Oracle Data Integrator and Oracle GoldenGate . • Standalone WLST for both WebLogic 8.1 and 9.2?

  Hi, I'm writing a simple script to facilitate changing JDBC connection URLs in several WL environments, among these both v8.1 and v9.2. I want to create a standalone script, outside of any WL installation, just including wlst.jar/jython.jar/weblogic.jar, that will work both on WL 8.1 and 9.2 (obviously by referencing different MBeans). Now, this works OK for WL 8.1. I copy weblogic.jar from the server, and have managed to get ahold of both wlst.jar and jython.jar (wasn't easy, Oracle doesn't host them anymore). Also I need to make sure to locally run under the same JRE as the server (WL8.1 runs on Java 1.4.2). But if I try to connect to WL 9.2 from this setup, I get a NullPointerException when trying to access any MBean (probably because I'm running on JRE 1.4.2 and WL 9.2 uses 1.5.0). Also, I am unable to create a standalone environment for WL 9.2. If I copy weblogic.jar from 9.2 and run WLST like so: java -cp "wlst.jar:jython.jar:weblogic-92.jar" weblogic.WLST I get a java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: weblogic/management/configuration/RepositoryMBean error. I can't find this class in weblogic92/server/lib, but it IS inside weblogic.jar from WL 8.1. So I'm really losing my patience here... Is there any way to create a standalone WLST client that can connect to any version of WebLogic (8.1 & 9.2 in the meantime)? I really wouldn't want to have to ssh into the WL environment to run my WLST script... Any ideas/suggestions are welcome. Thanks, Ivan

• Standard Oracle Fusion Middleware Installation fails on SOA ManagedServer start due to classpath pro

  Hi, Trying to install Oracle Fusion Middleware 11gR2 on windows (same thing happens on Linux). I have followed the guidelines provided in the http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12839_01/install.1111/e14318/toc.htm Installing the weblogic (11g) Oracle 11g databse installation Running the RCU utility to create schema Installed and copied relevant files for Java Bridge Configure the Fusion Middleware But i found that the SOA server is not getting up in the enterprise manager its showing as down. • Wildcard SSL certificate support in Weblogic

  Weblogic by default doesnt validate ssl certificates with wildcard entries. i.e. with cn = *.example.com . The impact of this is any ssl handshake which involves these kind of certificates are by default rejected. A clean resolution for this is to use custom hostname verifier and point the same to use the class weblogic.security.utils.SSLWLSWildcardHostnameVerifier To make this change, Launch WLS console Click on Environment -> Servers on your left Select Admin Server Then go to SSL tab Lock & Edit Scroll down and expand advanced section Here change Hostname verification entry to Custom Hostname Verifier Below in Custom Hostname verifier enter "weblogic.security.utils.SSLWLSWildcardHostnameVerifier" Restart weblogic

  I have read many posts for installing Oracle Database 10g XE Server in Ubuntu, such as this But I get an error: E: Unable to locate package oracle-xe when execute the command sudo apt-get install oracle-xe At the previous step (sudo apt-get update), it also notices that E: Some index files failed to download. They have been ignored, or old ones used instead. Did any one meet and solve this problem? I have searched for this problem but got no proper answer.

  In my previous blog I described the steps to get OpenStack on Solaris up and running. Now we'll explore how WebLogic and OpenStack can work together to deliver truly elastic Middleware Platform as a Service. Middleware / Platform as a Service goals First, let's define what PaaS should be : PaaS offerings facilitate the deployment of applications without the complexity of managing the underlying hardware and software and provisioning hosting capabilities. To break it down: - PaaS provides a complete platform for hosting solutions (Java EE, SOA, BPM, ...) - Infrastructure provisioning (virtual machine, OS, platform) and managing is hidden from the PaaS user [administrator or developer] - Additionally, PaaS could / should define target SLAs, and the platform should ensure the SLAs are meet automatically. PaaS use case To make it more tangible, we have an IT Administrator who has the requirement to deploy a Java EE enterprise application. The application is used by external users who need to submit reports by the end of each month. As a result, the number of concurrent users will fluctuate, with expected huge spikes around the end of each month. The SLA agreed by the management is that no more than 100 requests should be waiting to be processes at any given time. In addition, the IT admin has no more than 3 days to have the platform and the application operational. The Challenges Some of the challenges the IT Administrator is facing are: - how are we going to ensure the processing power? - how are we going to provision the (virtual) machines, Java EE platform and deploy the application? - how are we going to monitor the SLA? - how are we going to react to SLA, and increase capacity?  The Ideal Solution Ideally, the whole process should be automated, "set it and forget" and require no human interaction: - The vendor packages the solution as deployable image(s) - The images are deployed to the IaaS - From there, automated processes take care of SLA  Solution Architecture with WebLogic 12c, Dynamic Clusters, OpenStack & Solaris OracleSolaris provides OS and virtualisation through Solaris Zones OpenStack is a part of Solaris 11.2 and provides Cloud Management (console and API) WebLogic 12c with Dynamic Clusters provides the Platform Trafic Manager provides load balancing On top of out that, we are going to implement a small control script - Cloud Manager - which is going to monitor SLA through WebLogic Diagnostic Framework. In case there are more than 100 pending requests, the script will: - provision a new virtual machine based on image which is configured for the WebLogic domain - add the machine to WebLogic domain - Increase the number of servers in dynamic cluster - Start the newly provisioned server  Stay tuned for part II The hole solution with working demo will be presented in one of our Partner WebCasts in June, exact date TBA. • Configuring Weblogic Server 10.3.6 from 32-bit mode to 64-bit mode

  This post pertains to the configuration of Weblogic Server from 32-bit mode to 64-bit mode on Solaris OS. Just in case, you have WLS 10.3.6 running in 32-bit mode and the JDK being used is installed for 64-bit mode [On Solaris OS, JDK 64-bit installation comprises of installing 32-bit JDK followed by a patch for 64-bit JDK].  Verification of the mode being used One can verify the mode of Weblogic Server in the following ways Either check the commonEnv.sh script located at $MIDDLEWARE_HOME/wlserver_10.3/common/bin where $MIDDLEWARE_HOME refers to the install directory of Middleware. Look for the patterns - SUN_ARCH_DATA_MODEL and JAVA_USE_64BIT in the file. For 32-bit mode, the parameters would appear as shown belowSUN_ARCH_DATA_MODEL="32"JAVA_USE_64BIT=false Check the server console logs; which JDK is being used during start-up By checking which JDK is used by the running process of Weblogic Server Configuration Steps Take a backup of the commonEnv.sh script located at $MIDDLEWARE_HOME/wlserver_10.3/common/bin where $MIDDLEWARE_HOME refers to the install directory of Middleware Modify the commonEnv.sh script for the following parameters: The values should be 64 and true respectively for 64-bit modeSUN_ARCH_DATA_MODEL="64"JAVA_USE_64BIT=true  Restart the weblogic server. One can confirm that the JDK being used is 64-bit by looking at the Weblogic console logs during server start up or by looking at the running process.

• Configuring log4j on weblogic server for web applications.

  To configure Weblogic server : 1.- Read the following link : How to Use Log4j with WebLogic Logging Services http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E12840_01/wls/docs103/logging/config_logs.html#wp1014610 Here the step by step : 2.- Go to WL_HOME/server/lib and copy wllog4j.jar to the server CLASSPATH, to do this copy the file into DOMAIN_NAME/lib 3.- Download log4j jar (in my case I had not the file) from http://logging.apache.org/log4j/1.2/download.html , in this case the last available version is log4j-1.2.17.jar, and copy the file into DOMAIN_NAME/lib (As step 2). 4.- In this case I activate log4j using WLST (Weblogic Scripting Tool), as bellow : 4.1 .- As you're using windows, execute a terminal window and go to DOMAIN_NAME/bin and run the file setDomainEnv.cmd (this file will set the environment to run java). 4.2 .- Execute the following comands : C:\>java weblogic.WLST wls:/offline> connect('username','password') wls:/mydomain/serverConfig> edit() wls:/mydomain/edit> startEdit() wls:/mydomain/edit !> cd("Servers/$YOUR_SERVER_NAME/Log/$YOUR_SERVER_NAME" wls:/mydomain/edit/Servers/myserver/Log/myserver !> cmo.setLog4jLoggingEnabled(true) wls:/mydomain/edit/Servers/myserver/Log/myserver !> save() wls:/mydomain/edit/Servers/myserver/Log/myserver !> activate() you can use ls() to list the objects under the WLS directory this will activate log4j to use it with WLS.
