  • CentOS 6.3 Virtual under OpenVZ cannot ping, host lookups, outbound connections while postfix running

    My best theory is that some kernel limit is being hit preventing outbound connections. We have tried basically everything from tcpdumps to provisioning an entirely new virtual server (we do not have this problem on any other virtuals), however the problem somehow carried over, even with new postfix build (working). Emails work, and outbound connections work, so long as postfix does not have too much going on. /proc/user_beancounters shows no limits being hit (show below). Nevertheless, pings fail even to IP addresses. TCP stack appears healthy. Load is low. No iowait. Flushed iptables already.     I have installed IIS and .NET 4.0 on Windows Server 2003. I have a web ready website that that targets .NET 4.0 and have updated the default website home directory to map to the website's directory. When I visit the website in a web browser (localhost, localhost:80), I get a 404 error (File or directory not found).   • Sound card problem, no audio device detected

    I bought a new sound card because my built in sound card did not function. When I open YouTube, Media Player or anything that can create a sound my computer will hang up and sometimes when I start my computer it will hang when the Windows XP sound will activate. Update: My computer has no audio. It says NO AUDIO DEVICE. I already installed Realtek AC97 and Realtek High Definition Audio Driver and I also pasted stream.dll to the Windows and system32 folders and I restarted my computer but it still says NO AUDIO DEVICE.     I'm doing a traceroute from my box to ....say.... stackoverflow.com. I see a couple of instances where there are multiple ip's on one line. For instance, in below, line #2 has two IPs: 10.1.6.5 and 10.1.4.5 Also on line #4, there are two timestamps after 216.182.236.96: 0.653 ms and 0.637 ms What are these?   • SQL Server Migration Assistant for Oracle problem

    I've recently installed SSMA on my computer and after connecting to both the Oracle instance (which holds the database to be converted) and the SQL Server. I've mapped the needed schemas from oracle to mssql. The problem is that when i click on the report button for the assessment report there's an error popping up: Assesment Error : Nothing to Process The output window states: Starting conversion... Analyzing metadata... Conversion finished with 0 errors, 0 warnings, and 0 informational messages. There is nothing to process. Has anyone got experience with SSMA. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. Thank you.

  • [Linux] Bind/map Character to alt+[some key]?

    OS: Ubuntu In programming and various terminal programs (Screen, Vim) the [, ], { and } tends to be used a lot. I'm using a Norwegian keyboard where these are placed such that I have to stretch my fingers a bit too long for whats comfortable. To make it easier I though I'd try to make alt+[some key] be one of these characters. Is there a way that I can bind, say alt+æ (Norwegian letter) to '{' system wide? Btw, is such thing called binding, mapping or something else? I'm getting a bit confused by the terms... :)

  • Can you shrink the sparse disk image of a Mac OS X guest OS in VMWare Fusion?

    I use VMWare Fusion on my Mac to run a virtual Windows 7 machine, and the Microsoft IE compatibility Windows XP virtual machines. In VMWare Tools on the Windows guest OSes, there’s a “Shrink” option that lets you reduce the size of the sparse disk image used by the guest OS, to save hard drive space on your host OX. I’ve recently created another virtual machine, this time running Snow Leopard Server. I was wondering if I could shrink the spare disk image used by this machine too, but I can’t find a VMWare Tools app on the Mac guest OS, even though VMWare Tools have been installed (as VMWare’s Shared Folders feature is working). Is there any way to shrink the sparse disk image used by Mac OS X guest OSes in VMWare Fusion?

  • Firefox 3.6 - Navigation Toolbar - Google search box language problem

    Using Win7 Home Prem with Firefox 3.6 I like using the google search box in the Navigation Toolbar because it's quicker to do a search but as i am English and i am in Thailand it seems to do the search within www.google.co.th by default and so nearly everything on the google search page that comes up is in the Thai language (which is lots of weird squiggles). Is there any way to default the search to google.co.uk or google.com ?? and hence be in English. I can't see anything obvious to change the default search or language??

    We have an application that cares about the order of cookie headers. It shouldn't, since this isn't mandated by the standards and indeed we're getting the headers in various different orders So we would like to rewrite the headers in Apache so that the cookie headers always appear in a specific order. Is there any way of doing this? An ideal solution would be specifically about cookie headers, but something that lets us mess with the header order more generally would do too.

  • Resize PV on LVM

    I have this: Device Boot Start End Blocks Id System /dev/sda1 * 1 1217 9775552 83 Linux /dev/sda2 1218 60801 478608480 83 Linux And I'd like to shrink sda2 by about 10 Gigs to give some more space to sda1. sda2 is a PV on an LVM, but there is some free space in the VG so I don't have to worry about filesystem shrinking. How can I tell my LVM to move the data off of the first 10 gigs of sda2 and then redo my partition table to give it to sda1? (I don't have enough free space to just pvremove sda2, which would be the easy solution).

    Hey Everyone, I've scoured the interwebs for a few days now off and on to find this. I am creating a powershell script for email-enabling new user's(Exchange 2007). To give you a little background when we have a new hire, their AD account is created at our off-site helpdesk, but they don't create their email account. I'm trying to automate the process of mail-enabling the user which involves putting them in the same database as an existing user, disable imap pop activesync, and lastly email the requester of the ticket. I would like to just get prompted for the New User's name, User to Replicate(mailbox, storage group, database), and the person to email after it's been created. So if someone could just help with a command to Retrieve a user's Exchange database in powershell that would be great, but if people also want to help with my hacked up script please do so as well!!!     Being very new to Windows software distribution for a small network (<50 clients) I was wondering how software packages like Adobe's Reader or Java are handled. I can deploy them as MSIs via group policies just fine. But what happens when the client software detects updates? What are common ways to handle this? Disable the software's autoupdate feature? Redeploy when the admin detects a new version? Just fishing for knowledge, thanks for any hint.

  • Diagnose remote desktop freezes in Windows 7 when no BSOD?

    Okay, I'm getting no joy from Asus or Microsoft on this, so hoping for some clues on how to narrow down the cause. I have very frequent OS freezes, always & only when running Remote Destkop Client (mstsc) in Windows 7 x64. I never have a bluescreen, and there is never a minidump. The display & input just freezes -- no keyboard, no mouse, and sound will just continue the last wavelength if any. So far, I can't find a way to trap the hang given that there's no bluescreen; advanced startup & recovery settings for system failure are "Write an event" checked, "Automatically restart" checked, and "Kernel memory dump". I've updated to the lasted BIOS, and tried a few different graphics drivers, both generic & ATI. I've also tried disabling Aero, and everything about the remote desktop experience (incrementally unchecked every box in the mstsc - options - experience tab), even disabled/unplugged external monitor to make sure it wasn't a dual-monitor issue. My specs are: Asus G73jh notebook 8GB RAM ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5800 Series graphics (recently tried driver versions 8.791.0.0, 8.801.0.0) American Megatrends G73jh.211 BIOS (7/27/2010) Windows 7 Home Premium x64 Windows Memory Diagnostic passed all of the following at least 3 times with no errors: MATS+ INVC LRAND Stride6 WMATS+ WINVC This notebook is better than most at removing heat (laudable vent design), so I'm not inclined to suspect thermal causes (especially since running 1080p video for hours has never caused a freeze, but mstsc does, reliably, within 5 minutes to an hour). This did seem to start happening after a Windows Update, but I've since reverted every patch applied since a week before the first occurrence, with no joy. (And I'd only had the PC for a couple weeks before that, so it could have been chance + less actual time spent remoting at the beginning.) I'm at my wits end, and I bought this laptop primarily as a remote terminal client (go figure, right?) Any ideas on how to identify the cause of this? Thanks!

    I've bought a wireless router which I'm installing with a Telstra BigPond cable modem for a friend. As part of the setup I've got to a screen requesting username / password / authentication server for the cable modem They have contacted Telstra who supply the username / password and say that is all they need. They dont know anything about an authentication server. I guess if I dont get anything more here I'll try what it says on whirlpool and see what happens.

  • Invoke host's workspace switcher from inside VM

    When I start a virtual machine (like VMware or VirtualBox) and set it full screen then, from the host OS (in this case Ubuntu), I can beautifully switch to it with the Workspace Switcher. So I switch to the VM like I switch to a virtual screen. But switching back -- from the VM to the host's virtual screens -- seems to be impossible because by entering the VM I loose the host's workspace switcher. Is there a nifty workspace switcher program that runs inside the VM and is able to switch workspaces of the host machine? Edit in light of Frank Thomas' answer, can we configure VirtualBox (or VMware) to not send certain key combinations to the VM, but keep them to the host? Like Super+S. In that approach I would sadly have to miss the nice workspace switcher icon in the guest OS, but that's OK if at least the keyboard trick would work.

As an example, the dev box is running nginx on port 8080, and so the url's to the root of the node app looks like: http://localhost:8080/app When I call a redirect to '/app' from node, the actual redirect goes to: http://localhost/app
