• opengl libraries for ubuntu running on Virtual Box

  I am having Ubuntu 10.04 running on VirtualBox. Guest additions are installed successfully. But Guest additions do not provide the OpenGL library. To run open GL demo what needs to be installed. Some google links suggest Mesa utils. By my understanding is Mesa utils do not use vbox drivers to achieve hardware acceleration. Ubuntu 10.04 is running on VirtualBox and not on bare metal. The host comprise of Zx400 CPU with nvidia graphics driver. But this is not relevant since I would be using the vbox drivers provided by guest additions on VirtualBox. In this scenario how do I get OpenGL libraries on Ubuntu?. (Specially I am looking for solution other than Mesa, since mesa has support only for VMware and not for VirtualBox) How to get Opengl libraries which use vbox drivers for 3D hardware accleration?? As i already mentioned, ubuntu 10.04 is running on VirtualBox and not on bare metal. the host comprise of Zx400 CPU with nvidia graphics driver. but this is not relevant since i would be using the vbox drivers provided by guest additions on VirtualBox. • Places to find free software projects who need developers/project managers?

  While I have plenty of project management "booksmarts" and a handful of PM experience, I don't seem to have enough experience to get the sort of job I want. Since "I read another PM book/blog today" doesn't really count, I was thinking I could find some free/open source software (FOSS) projects who are looking for/hiring project managers or developers and see if there was anything I could volunteer for. Does anyone know of any FOSS employment sites where I might be able to find such projects? Something similar to careers.stackoverflow.com. I know I could just go to sourceforge/freshmeat and look around, but I was hoping to find some site that fills this need (and if any such sites exist, my google-fu is apparently VERY weak at finding them).

• Best language or tool for automating tedious manual tasks [closed]

  We all have tasks that come up from time to time that we think we'd be better off scripting or automating than doing manually. Obviously some tools or languages are better for this than others - no-one (in their right mind) is doing a one off job of cross referencing a bunch of text lists their PM has just given them in assembler for instance. What one tool or language would you recommend for the sort of general quick and dirty jobs you get asked to do where time (rather than elegance) is of the essence? Background: I'm a former programmer, now development manager PM, looking to learn a new language for fun. If I'm going to learn something for fun I'd like it to be useful and this sort of use case is the most likely to come up.

  I am trying to get HDMI output using a Gainward Nvidia 210 512 MB on Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx. I have upgraded alsa-driver, alsa-lib and alsa-utils to 1.0.24 by building from source, thanks to this blog post. • Distorted choppy audio in Precise

  After installing Precise on my PC, some problems with soud occure. While using Lucid there were no problems. The sound is choppy and distorted in low tones range. • No audio in Google Chrome

  I started with Ubuntu 12.04 Minimal. Then installed only 3 utils sudo apt-get install xorg xinit google-chrome-stable alsa-base alsa-utils alsa-oss I have added google-chrome to .xinitrc file. Used sudo alsamixer to unmute everything using M. Also I am able to hear sound when I run this independently in a terminal sudo aplay /usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav However Google Chrome is not giving any sound output be it on youtube or the same file (/usr/share/sounds/alsa/Front_Center.wav) opened by browsing in chrome. UPDATE : the moment i install some Desktop (display) Manager like gnome or lxde and launch chrome then, the audio is perfect success. However if i kill the xsession and the desktop manager (lxde) AND then start with loading only the chrome (without DM) then again i loose the sound. This makes me wonder that there is something which is not allowing the sound to be loaded into chrome directly, but once the session like lxde loads, then it works flawless. I am thinking that i should rather ask, how to authorize google-chrome to use sound software? Miscellaneous : I am surprised to know that I cannot start google-chrome by sudo command (it asks to be a normal user) && that i cannot start alsamixer as a normal user (i must use sudo alsamixer ) May someone please help what i need to do so that google chrome speaks????

• In a team practicing Domain Driven Design, should the whole team participate in Stakeholder meetings?

  In my experience, a Software Development Team that comprises: 1 Project Manager 1 Tech Lead 1 - 2 Senior Dev 2 - 3 Junior Dev (Fresh grad) Only the Tech Lead & PM (and/or Senor Dev/s) will participate in a meeting with Clients, Domain Experts, Client's technical resource. I can think of the ff potential pitfalls: Important info gets lost Human error (TL/PM might forgot to disseminate info due to pressure or plain human error) Non-verbal info (maybe a presentation using a diagram presented by Domain Expert) Maintaining Ubiquitous language is harder to build since not all team members get to hear the non-dev persons Potential of creative minds are not fully realized (Personally, I am more motivated to think/explore when I am involved with these important meetings) Advantages of this approach: Only one point of contact Less time spent on meetings? Honestly, I am biased & against this approach. I would like to hear your opinions. Is this how you do it in your team? Thanks in advance!

• Ubuntu freezes while working

  Ubuntu on my laptop has frozen multiple times in last 6-7 months. Its not frequent but I can not relate the freezing to anything which I was doing. Today it froze again when I was taking notes in class - approximately at 12:00 PM. During the freeze both mouse and keyboard stopped working. I tried Alt-Ctrl-F1, Alt-Ctrl-F2 etc without any success. After that I waited few minutes & then I restarted the laptop. I checked /var/log/syslog and /var/log/kern.log and it seems that it did not log anything (I was not able to understand most of it). Please let me know if you can find something unusual at around 12:00 PM. Is there any other log which might be useful? Here are the /var/log/syslog and /var/log/kern.log files.

• How can I register a domain that requires country residency?

  I tried to register a .pm domain from ovh.co.uk, but they e-mailed me saying they want valid proof that I am a resident of the United Kingdom. I currently live in the United States though. I am aware that I have to be a resident. That's not the question I'm asking. I want to know if it's possible, whether through some website that will get residency or some 'hacking' method, to register the domain I am interested in without having to physically be a resident of the country. I will try and find out if ovh.co.uk will charge me an extra fee, but until then I am curious to know if there is any way I could do this. Also, is there any other website I could purchase .pm domains from?
