  • What software will run the new Windows 8 in virtualization under OS X?

    I've read a lot about the new Windows OS, but would like to run it first hand. I've got several Macs with Mountain Lion (10.8) and presume I can use this evaluation license to test the OS for my consulting company. What else do I need to run Windows 8 in virtualization (as I'd rather not mess with BootCamp for several reasons)? Any other gotchas from someone who has gone down this path would be appreciated as well.

  • Is there a Linux distro specific for running as a host OS for Virtualization?

    Hi, as I understand running VMware or other virtualizations requires a "host os". Normally this is one of your main os-es, that you really use. What I would like is a mini-linux and virtualization software pre-wrapped into a specialized bootalble, installable mini-os. So the linux would not have a webserver, nor X, just the minimum to run as a host OS and of course optimized for that, like some partitioning tools and such.

    Is it possible to install a main server and install some sort of virtualization technology, pay one price for software such as Photoshop and let everyone user it? Please explain to me why or why not If yes, please tell me what technologies are capable of doing that, and one would save costs by doing that. How will the performance be?   • Web-design / UI advice

    I'm working on a website on a Fmylife style. Now the homepage is the page showing the list of the latest posts. But I think there is a problem with that: The most "interesting" page is the one showing the top posts of the last days, but that page has very few visits compared to the main page. I suppose that's only because the main page is the "default" one. So, I've been thinking of making a home page that shows no posts (only one at the top of the page) but 4 big buttons showing the visitors what are the options to browse the content. But I'm also afraid that most users will not click any option and leave the site having seen no posts. So I don't know what to do. Obviously I have no idea of what will be good from a usability/efficiency point of view. Maybe a mix of the two options will be the best, but I don't know how to mix them. Any advice or idea will be greatly appreciated.     Hello All, When a J2ME application runs on Samsung Bada phone (GT-S5320, in my case),a virtual keypad is shown on the screen by default and always! This virtual keypad consists of the following keys - LEFT,RIGHT,UP,DOWN,FIRE and SOFT1, SOFT2. Is there anyway I can control when this keypad is displayed and when it isn't.   • Jquery UI Slider - Input a Value and Slider Move to Location

    I was wondering if anyone has found a solution or example to actually populating the input box of a slider and having it slide to the appropriate position onBlur() .. Currently, as we all know, it just updates this value with the position you are at. So in some regards, I am trying to reverse the functionality of this amazing slider. One link I found: http://www.webdeveloper.com/forum/archive/index.php/t-177578.html is a bit outdated, but looks like they made an attempt. However, the links to the results do not exist. I am hoping that there may be a solution out there. I know Filament has re-engineered the slider to handle select (drop down) values, and it works flawlessly.. So the goal would be to do the same, but with an input text box. Any help would be incredible! Thanks in Advance!! Robert

    Hi, I'm trying to use the sortable widget for my site. I have a mini scheduling app that I'd like to display a list of appointments for the week sorted by days. For this example we'll use only two days ( 2 lists ). If I wanted to drag an appointment (list item) from day 2 over to day 1, is there a way I can callback the id of list 1 after I dragged an item to it? I can find the id of the parent list upon page load but I can't seem to be able to pull the new id after sort.   • jQuery-ui problem with modal dialog from ajax

    Hi I have following setup index.html with <div id="container"</div using anchor method I load different html content into this container. My content contains div for modal dialog "dialog-form" and I initialise it with the custom function from the javascript included in index.html on successful ajax load using callback $.get("callback.php",query, function(data){ $("#container").html(data); initPos(); // here we run javascript to initialise modal dialog }); Everything is ok until user click other menu (we load different content) and after that again clicks menu with this modal dialog, so page loads again, we call script again (everything is ok yet), dialog opens, information from the dialog is submitted to server and on sucessful sumbit I want to close the dialog with ('#dialog-form').dialog('close');it worked first time, but no longer works because we initialised this dialog twice and using Firebug I can see two different instances of modal dialog with the same name. So, what is the right way to do the thing? Is there any way to close multiple dialogs with the same name or maybe we can kill all closed modal dialogs when user clicks different menu?

However, most of my users are locked into using IE6 and the performance of the jQuery DatePicker is a little sluggish in this browser.   • grouping draggable objects with jquery-ui draggable

    Hello, I want to use jquery draggable/droppable to let the user select a group of objects (each one has a checkbox in the corner) and then drag all the selected objects as a group... I can't figure out for the life of me how to do it haha. Here is what I'm thinking will lead to a usable solution, on each draggable object, use the start() event and somehow grab all the other selected objects and add them to the selection I was also considering just making the dragged object look like a group of objects (they're images, so a pile of photos maybe) for performance reasons. I think using the draggable functionality might fall over if you drag several dozen objects at once, does that sound like a better idea?

However I am trying to create an autocomplete that sends the current value to a PHP script and then returns the necessary values. Starting to get quite frustrated. The input box just turns "white" and no options are shown. The code does work if I specify an array of values.

  • Range issue with ui-slider
