  • Cache updates when migrating DNS from one provider to another

    This may be a Windows DNS specific question or a general DNS best practice question - I'm not sure! We migrated our 3rd party DNS provision from provider A to provider B. I noticed that our internal recursive windows DNS servers still had NS records cached for our domains pointing to provider A's servers, even though I changed the nameservers with our registrar several days ago, and even though selecting the properties of the cached records showed a TTL of 1 day. After 24 hours when the NS records in this cache have expired, will the DNS server go back to the TLD server for an update on the authority, or will it go by preference to dns1.providera.com since that is what it has cached? In this case I arranged to leave Provider A's servers up for a week to allow changes to propagate, so dns1.providera.com is still active and would still provide NS and SOA records that said that dns1.providera.com. was in charge of this domain. Given this fact, would the Windows DNS server ever go back to the TLD and pick up the authority changes, or would it just assume all was well and renew timestamps on its cached NS records? I wonder what would be the best approach to ensuring that caches pick this up. Should I:- (1) Leave Provider A's servers in place and active and wait for caches to catch up ... basically what we're doing now which seems to have issues - perhaps specifically for Windows servers, or perhaps more widely. (2) Leave Provider A's servers in place but change the NS and/or SOA information they provide to tell caches that new servers are in charge. (3) Remove Provider A's servers after 2*TTL to force remaining caches to update. The issue with (2) is that on Provider A's system I can't seem to change the NS or SOA information to anything other than their servers. The issue with (3) is that I'm not sure how a DNS server would behave in this case. When it couldn't reach the cached name servers, would it flush its cache and try a full recursive lookup, or would it just return an error, forcing the user to clear the cache manually?   • Trying to create a git repo that does an automatic checkout everytime someone updates origin

    Basically, I have a server with a git repo 'origin'. I'm trying to have another repo auto-pull from origin every time someone pushes code to it. I've been using the hooks in origin, specifically post-receive. So far, my post receive looks something like this: #!/bin/sh GIT_DIR=/home/<user>/<test_repo> git pull origin master But when I push to origin from another computer, I get the error: remote: fatal: Not a git repository: '/home/<user>/<test_repo>' However, test_repo most definitely is a git repo. I can cd into it and run 'git pull origin master' and it works fine. Is there an easier way to do what I'm trying to do? If not, what am I doing wrong with this approach? Thanks in advance. Edit, to clarify: The repo is a website in progress, and I'd like to have a version of it available at all times that is fully up to date.

  • Virus cleanup + dying drive = XP Automatic Updates crashing in esent.dll

    Background I'm doing system recovery on an old WinXP SP1 system brought to me on suspicion of virus infection. After taking preliminary backups, I used MalwareBytes to detect and clean the infection. I might've even gotten it all. In the process, I've discovered (a) the system drive is showing signs of impending failure, and (b) the owner has been using the system's old crusty IE-6 instead of the up-to-date Firefox I've provided for him. So naturally, thinking I had a relatively stable system, I tried to hit the Windows Update site to install IE-8, in case further training doesn't stick. The update site told me it needed to update the installer, and I started that process. Soon after, wuauclt.exe started crashing, reporting addresses in module esent.dll. There's a Microsoft KB (910437) on a problem with that DLL, so I downloaded the hotfix and installed. The crashing did not stop. I attempted to install SP3 from the offline installer, but that didn't fix the issue either. The system is reporting a few hard drive / IDE controller errors, but they don't correlate to the crashes, so they aren't the direct cause. I've also attempted to rollback to the time between the infection removal and the first crashes, but that doesn't help. Question The hotfix I tried to install dealt with problem in transaction logs of the Extensible Storage Engine (ESE) database. I suspect this issue is similar, but that the database itself (whatever the ESE database is) is corrupted. Is there a way to clean or clear this database so that system operation returns to normal? Can someone enlighten me as to what the ESE database actually is, and where it resides? Can I just locate some files and delete them to bring this under control?

I combined all dvd disk 's file, but I found the .gpg file I need and I can't create it. it looks like source's signature file. so when I set my /etc/apt/sources.list file as follow: deb http://192.168.1.102/apt/debian squeeze main contrib it noticed me the gpg files verilied faild. so I want to know , how to create gpg file, and do I need some other work except put DVD's file to the apache's htdocs path?

  • Same album repeatedly updates when syncing iTunes with iPhone

    I have many many albums and tracks purchased via the iTunes store both through iTunes directly and via the iPhone. They all synchronise properly and are on iTunes eventually (i.e. if purcashed originally on the iPhone). There's one album, though, purchased via the iTunes app in June this year. Virtually every time I sync the iPhone it says "updating files" and this album gets updated. The rest of the sync goes just fine, new tracks added, listened to podcasts are removed, playlists are updated (notwithstanding that smart playlists' orderings are now utterly broken) fine - but this album is always getting updated. In finder I've looked at the permissions and nothing seems unusual. FWIW, I'm on Mac OS X 10.5.8, iPhone 3.1.2, iTunes 9.02. Anyone with any ideas? It's not a fundamental problem, but it does means that each sync takes an extra 30-60 seconds, which is annoying!

Basically, I would like to run a batch script, which installs all important updates in the background accepting any dialog boxes which need user interaction. EDIT 1: I know I can enable the "Automatically download and install" option to do this, but I have about 100 computers to do, so it would be nice if it can be done via a batch file. That way, I can use the software we already have to run a batch file on all computers with a single click.

  • Is there a way to automatically keep Chrome/Ask Tool Bar from installing?

    So of lately, I've had to warn my users to watch out for unwanted programs that are coming in with Adobe Flash and Java updates. Adobe seems to be pushing Google's Chrome and Java with the Ask.com Toolbar. I admit that it could be much worse because both instance simply require an uncheck during some point of the update process, but on a large scale, prevention is better than confrontation. Any suggestions?

    I work for a company that uses Windows 7 for end user computing. The Windows 7 computers are updated via a WSUS installation, and access to Microsoft Update is blocked. We have a problem with a number of websites, who's certificates appears to be invalid, though they are perfectly ok. The problem is, that Windows 7 apparently does an on-demand update of root certificates through Windows Update, rather than rolling out a monthly update, as with Windows XP. Now that Windows Update is blocked, how should root certificates be updated? It appears that WSUS is not handling this feature. Thanks in advance.

  • Silverlight 4, Out of browser, Printing, Automatic updates

    I have a very critial business application presently running using Winforms. The application is a very core UI shell. It accepts input data, calls a webservice on my server to do the computation, displays the results on the winforms app and finally send a print stream to the printer. Presently the application is deployed using Click-once. Moving forward, I am trying to contemplate wheather I should move the application into a Silverlight application. Couple of reasons I am thinking silverlight. Gives clients the feel that it is a cloud based solution. Can be accessed from any PC. While the clickonce app is able to do this as well, they have to install an app, and when updates are available they have to click "Yes" to update. The application presently has a drop down list of customers, this list has expanded to over 3000 records. Scrolling through the list is very painful. With Silverlight I am thinking of the auto complete ability. Out of the browser - this will be handy for those users who use the app daily. I haven't used Silverlight previous hence looking for some expert advice on a few things: Printing - does silverlight allow sending raw print data to the printer. The application prints to a Zebra Thermal label printer. I have to send raw bytes to the printer with the commands. Can this be done with SL, or will it always prompt the "Print" dialog? Out of browser - when SL apps are installed as out of browser, how to updates come through, does the app update automatically or is the user prompted to opt for update?

  • WPF Combobox Updates list but not the selected item

    I have a combo box on a WPF form. On this form the user selects a record from the combo box which populates the rest of the fields on the form so the user can update that record. When they click save I am re-retrieving the combo box source which updates the combo box list. The problem is the selected item keeps the original label even though the data behind it is different. When you expand the combo box the selected item shows the right label. I am using a command binding mechanism. THe SalesRepSelItem property called NotifyPropertyChanges("SalesRepSelItem") which raises a PropertyChanged event. All told the binding of new items seems to work and the list updates, but the label on the selected item doesnt. Any ideas? Thanks all.

  • Updates to fullcalendar events (through updateEvent) not maintaining across ajax month changes

    Hey there. I have the calendar configured to allow me to edit and add (drag/drop) calendar events. I use .fullCalendar('updateEvent', theEvent) to edit an event, and it immediately updates on the page. Excellent. If I move to another month and then move back (get via ajax), that change is undone. By contrast, if I add a new event by drag/drop using: .fullCalendar('renderEvent', newEventObject, true); it appears on the calendar, and if I move to another month, and move back, it maintains. If I edit this newly added event object, and move to another month and back, the updates are retained! So the "stickiness" of edits seem to work on newly added events, but not events that were pulled via ajax (since it just pulls a fresh version via ajax when the month changes). My calendar config is: $('#calendar').fullCalendar({ theme: true, header: { left: "prev,next today", center: 'title', right: "today prev,next" }, selectable: true, selectHelper: true, select: calendarSelect, droppable: true, drop: calendarDrop, events:getCalendarData, eventClick:calendarEventClicked }); I tried setting editable: true, as well, but no dice. I noticed that if I view "event.source" on one of the ajax pulled events, it shows me a function, and if i read the source attribute on one of the "added" events, it reads [object]. So I tried setting the event.source of the event being added, to that same event object: curCalendarEvent.source = curCalendarEvent But no dice. It sets, but when I move back month forward again, it returns to the function as a source. I tried adding lazyFetching: false to my calendar config, but that didn't help. I even tried a .fullCalendar('renderEvent', curCalendarEvent, true); on the existing "edited" event to see if I could get "stick" to work, and it didn't help. The only thing I can think of doing is deleting the event flat out and recreating it. Any help would be appreciated. -Brian

  • Launch ClickOnce via URL but not checking for updates

    I have a ClickOnce app that is frequently launched from another application via a URL. The URL includes some command-line arguments that load data, etc. Since the frequency of launching the app is so high, I want to cut out the check for version updates. So I implemented my own checking through the ApplicationDeployment class to avoid it. It works fine if you launch from the Start Menu once the app is installed. However, we also want to preserve the launch via URL behavior because it is advantageous in so many ways. But when launching via URL, the update check is always performed -- it seems IE isn't smart enough to look for the app in the local download area to see if it is already installed or not... Does anyone know of a way to get the "don't check for updates automatically" behavior while still using the URL launch mechanism? Actually, it looks like the issue is a Catch-22 in the ClickOnce model. If you launch with a URL, IE will always touch base with the host and check the version, updating if necessary, regardless of whether or not the app is flagged as "Don't check version". However, if you launch from the Start Menu, ClickOnce disables command-line arguments. Has anyone found any way around this, or know of a MS plan to fix it?

  • Get notified when objective-c dom updates are ready initiated from webview

    I am programmatically updating the DOM on a WebKit webview via DOMElement objects - for complex UI, there is usually a javascript component to any element that I add. This begs the need to be notified when the updates complete -- is there any such event? I know regular divs dont fire an onload or onready event, correct? The other assumption I had, which may be totally wrong, is that DOMElement updates aren't synchronous, so I can't do something like this and be confident it will meet with the label actually in the DOM: DOMElement *displayNameLabel = [document createElement:@"div"]; [displayNameLabel setAttribute:@"class" value:@"user-display-name"]; [displayNameLabel setTextContent:currentAvatar.avatarData.displayName]; [[document getElementById:@"user-card-content"] appendChild:displayNameLabel]; id win = [webView windowScriptObject]; [win evaluateWebScript:@"javascriptInstantiateLabel()"]; Is this true?     I like to find a way to handle multiple updates to a sql db (with one singe db roundtrip). I read about table-valued parameters in SQL Server 2008 http://www.codeproject.com/KB/database/TableValueParameters.aspx which seems really useful. But it seems I need to create both a stored procedure and a table type to use it. Is that true? Perhaps due to security?   • XCode 4.4 bundle version updates not picked up until subsequent build

    I'm probably missing something simple here. I am trying to auto increment my build number in XCode 4.4 only when archiving my application (in preparation for a TestFlight deployment). I have a working shell script that runs on the target and successfully updates the info.plist file for each build. My build configuration for archiving is name 'Ad-Hoc'. The problem is that the .ipa file that comes out of the archive process is still showing the previous build number. I have tried the following solutions with no success: Clean before build Clean build folder before build Move Run Script phase to directly after the Target Dependencies step in Build Phases Adding the script as a Run Script action in my scheme as a pre-action No matter what I do, when I look at the build log, I see that the info.plist file is being processed as one of the very first steps. It is always prior to my script running and updating the build number, which is, I assume, why the build number is never current in the .ipa file. Is there a way to force the Run Script phase to run before the info.plist file is processed?
