  • Httpd + Expect Script Fail (no more ptys) if httpd is not run through cli

    I have a CentOS virtual server through Vmware. The server runs an httpd daemon which serves an php page with a form. The users complete the form, and by clicking submit the php page calls an expect scripts. If i run the httpd throught the default init.d script i get a "no more ptys" error, but if i run httpd through root terminal the script runs without problems. How can i make the httpd run the expect scripts without having to run the httpd daemon by hand.

    Self-hosted box, RHEL 6 PHP 5.3.3 PDO installed freetds installed pdo_dblib - so far no luck installing My goal is to use PDO with sybase. Attempting to install pdo_dblib from the appropriate version php source code. I have tried a variety of methods and searched quite a bit for help on this topic, but have yet to be successful. Method 2 Install freetds following the instructions exactly, i add the prefix $ ./configure --prefix=/usr/local/freetds $ make $ su root Password: $ make install This is successful Install pdo_dblib inside the /ext/pdo_dblib folder: $ phpize $ ./configure --with-sybase=/usr/local/freetds This produces the following error at the bottom of the output ... checking for PDO_DBLIB support via FreeTDS... yes, shared configure: error: Cannot find FreeTDS in known installation directories Method 3 freetds ./configure variation (including or not include the --prefix...) did not change the result of this so I'll skip it. Install pdo_dblib pecl extension following the method specified here. pecl download pdo_dblib tar -xzvf PDO_DBLIB-1.0.tgz Removed the line, <dep type=”ext” rel=”ge” version=”1.0?>pdo</dep> Saved the package.xml file, and moved it in to the PDO_DBLIB directory. mv package.xml ./PDO_DBLIB-1.0 Navigated to the PDO_DBLIB directory, then installed the package from the directory. cd ./PDO_DBLIB-1.0 pecl install package.xml But, this command gives me the following error output, same as Method 2. checking for PDO_DBLIB support via FreeTDS... yes, shared configure: error: Cannot find FreeTDS in known installation directories ERROR: `/home/sybase/Install_items/pecl_pdo_dblib/PDO_DBLIB-1.0/configure' failed

  • Partitioning recommendations for a Proxmox VM Server (OpenVZ)

    We are new to virtualization and we are planning to turn our online server into a virualized one, mainly for maintenance, backup and recovery improvements. Initially we would only have one real virtual system with load plus 1-3 copys for testing and recovering and maybe a small centralized syslog virtual machine. We would like, if possible the host machine to include an iptables plus rsync to back up to other machines and some other global security systems. Due to this and the offerings of our hosting supplier we are mainly considering Proxmox for its simplicity (we like the idea of its web admin panel) and as I also understand that the container approach of OpenVMZ systems may fit well resource wise with our setup. The base system comes with debian so we can personalise it to our requirements. Proxmox installations default installs an LVM partition for the VMs. Our doubts are with the fact of what would be the best partition structure for this considering that: we would like to have a mirror of the root partition we could boot from if required (our provider supports booting the system from another partition via control panel) we ideally would like to have a partition that could be shared among the VM systems. We still don't know if this is possible directly with OpenVMZ containers, otherwise we are considering doing this by sharing it via NFS on the host machine. we want to use the backup system available on the proxmox host administrator to programme VMs backups and then rsync it to another machine. With this based on a Linux Raid of aprox (750Gb) we are considering something like: ext3_1/ - (20Gb) ext3_2/bak_root - (20Gb) mostly unmounted, root partition sync LVM_1 /var/lib/vz - (390Gb) partition for virtual images LVM_2 /shared_data - (30Gb) LVM_3 /backups - (300Gb) where all backups would be allocated Our initial tests with Proxmox seem to have issues with snapshots backups like this, perhaps caused by the fact that they can not be done to another LVM partition (error: command 'lvcreate --size 1024M --snapshot --name vzsnap-ns204084.XXX.net-0 /dev/pve/LV' failed with exit code 5) in which case we might have to use a standart ext3 partition (but unsure if we can do this with the 4 primary partition limitations). Does this makes more or less sense? Would it be mad to for example write VMs /var/logs to a NFS mounted partition (on the host system)? Are their any other easier ways to mount host system partitions (or folders) to the VMs?

    I have followed installing openLDAP from http://www.openldap.org/doc/admin24/quickstart.html and follow the tasks up to # 9. when I run [ su root -c /usr/local/libexec/slapd ] it asks for password and after I type the password no indication of if server has been started or not. When I run [ ldapsearch -x -b '' -s base '(objectclass=*)' namingContexts ] I get this error [ ldap_sasl_bind(SIMPLE): Can't contact LDAP server (-1) ] I can't figure it out what is the problem. Can anyone help? Thanks

  • Why does Mac OS X Software Update not work when machine uses Active Directory?

    My company's IT department is mostly a Windows run operation and in order to become more secure, they are altering the way that the Macintosh computers login to our internal network so that they use Active Directory like their Windows counterparts. I have been given Administrative permission on my Mac and I am able to do most of what I used to be able to do in terms of authentication of software installations. However, there is a problem: the "Software Update" feature doesn't work. What happens is that when I try to get the Mac to perform its Software Updates from the Apple menu, the normal window appears listing what has to be updated; I am able to select what to update and click the "Update" button, but then nothing happens. It doesn't ask for authentication like it used to, the computer doesn't perform any download or installation (it does sometimes ask me to agree to license agreements for iTunes). I can download the updates individually and install them without any issues, but the auto-update fails. I'd rather use the Software Update menu item like I used to: it is much more convenient. Any suggestions on how I can fix this? EDIT Nov 19th, 2009, 10:09 EST: I have posted this question to the Apple Mac OS X Snow Leopard support forum. EDIT Nov 19th, 2009, 12:39 EST:Yes, the Terminal command "sudo softwareupdate --install --all" does work flawlessly. I want to avoid that as my co-workers are generally not comfortable on the Mac. I also tried Chealion's suggestion to delete "~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist" and "/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist", Software Update still fails. However, I did get diagnostic messages in the Console (below). I've deleted the MS Office Package Receipts and examined the suhelperd (Software Update Helper Daemon?); it appears that suhelperd is crashing and that explains why it doesn't work. I've submitted a bug report to Apple (radar://7408619).   • How to add video / monitor resolution in Ubuntu 10.4

    I picked up an ASUS EEE 1101HA with Windows 7 and installed UBUNTU 10.4 Netbook Remix (dual boot). Ubuntu runs fine, but it doesn't recognize that the notebook LCD is 1388x768 and thus only offers 1024x768 and 800x600 as monitor resolution. So .. how can I tell it about that higher resolution? (Have root pwd & vi, una-bash-ed to use both.. )

When I check the log file, the profile creation process is always stop halfway (does not show any error, just stuck there).   • Prevent Explorer From Expanding Network Folders when in Folders View

    When you are browsing a network share and there are over 1000 folders in the root (like at work), is there a way to prevent Explorer from expanding all the Folders when you have the "Folders" view enabled? Explorer will open the folder your double clicked on, and show that in the right navigation pane, and it's great, but wait about five seconds and the rest of the folder list pops into view, I'd rather that not happen. There is only one folder I'm interested in (or have access to), and it's annoying waiting for Explorer to load the rest of the files.

    Hello. I've been trying to set up the OpenLDAP installed by default on Fedora 12, very unsuccessfully. My ultimate goal is to use LDAP authentication for user login and Apache, using the OpenLDAP server running on the same machine. The server is running, but the error I always get when I try to use ldapsearch or ldapadd is: ldap_bind: Invalid credentials (49) I've been following these tutorials, but none of them helped me: http://www.howtoforge.com/openldap_fedora7 http://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/linux/RHL-9-Manual/ref-guide/s1-ldap-quickstart.html http://www.howtoforge.com/linux_ldap_authentication http://docs.fedoraproject.org/deployment-guide/f12/en-US/html/s1-ldap-pam.html http://www.openldap.org/doc/admin24/quickstart.html First, some components were already installed, and I installed these with yum: yum install openldap-servers openldap-devel Then, I created a basic slapd.conf file in /etc/openldap: database bdb suffix "dc=sniejana-sandbox,dc=com" rootdn "cn=root,dc=sniejana-sandbox,dc=com" rootpw {SSHA}cxdz55ygPu4T3ykg7dgu+L0VRvsFSeom directory /var/lib/ldap/sniejana-sandbox.com I obtained the rootpw with this command: slappasswd -s changeme I also created the /var/lib/ldap/sniejana-sandbox.com directory and made sure the entire contents of /var/lib/ldap were owned by the ldap user. I found two ldap.conf files, one in /etc and one in /etc/openldap. I don't know which is the right one. If I understood correctly, this file is to configure the client. I put this in both: HOST localhost BASE dc=sniejana-sandbox,dc=com I then ran the server with: service slapd start It said OK. Most of the tutorials above say to use the command ldapsearch -D "cn=Manager,dc=my-domain,dc=com" -W to ensure that everything's working. When I execute this command, a password prompt appears, and after entering the password, I get the error. ldapsearch -D "cn=root,dc=sniejana-sandbox,dc=com" -W Enter LDAP password: ldap_bind: Invalid credentials (49) The same thing happens when trying to use ldapadd. I tried with an encrypted and unencrypted password in slapd.conf, it doesn't change anything. Adding a -x for simple authentication doesn't change anything either. netstat -ap confirms the server is listening: tcp 0 0 *:ldap *:* LISTEN 4148/slapd tcp 0 0 *:ldap *:* LISTEN 4148/slapd ps -ef|grep slapd confirms the process is running: ldap 4148 1 0 15:22 ? 00:00:00 /usr/sbin/slapd -h ldap:/// -u ldap Running slaptest procudes config file testing succeeded. I read somewhere that the command ldapsearch -x -b '' -s base '(objectclass=*)' namingContext can confirm the server is running.   • Chroot within chroot

    I'm using Centos 5.2 and when I try to make a chroot jail using the script, I get: Copying libraries for /usr/bin/scp. (0x00007fff17bfe000) cp: cannot stat `(0x00007fff17bfe000)': No such file or directory ... I am currently using on a rackspace cloud server so i suspect that these dependencies are outside of my own root. Does anyone have a better idea for jailing the sftp server on a cloud server using Centos 5.2?

When I try to drag a file into gnome-terminal, I don't get the path of this file, instead the image of this file just came back to the original place. Anyone knows why this happened?

  • reset file permissions?

    In my /var/www folder i have permission 2750 with the owner being root (unless i change it by hand) and the group being www-data. I mv a folder into /var/www and i'd like to reset the permissions so everything is 2750 and for the group to be www-data, is it possible to do it in one command? or do i need to do multiple cmds? (its two commands, 3 if i want the same owner but it be nice to do it with one for this folder)

  • IE8 Download's Writing to C:\?

    Every time I download something using IE8 (running on Win 7) I get asked where to save the file, I choose my downloads folder, then the download continues and when complete I get the following message: "C:\ is not accessible. Access Denied." And I so I can't access any files I download. So why on earth would IE8 be trying to write to the root, and where can I change this? I've checked the cache folder location and it's correct. Dana

    I need to extract the ASPNET\Requests Queued performance counter from some IIS servers via WMI. The WMI class for this sort of thing appears to be contained in Win32_PerfFormattedData_ASPNET_ASPNET. I've queried all available classes in root\cimv2 on my Win 2003/IIS6 servers, and it's not listed. It is, however, available on an unrelated Win2008/IIS7 box (which is interesting but doesn't really help me much) What gives? Why is this WMI class not available on my Windows 2003 servers?
