  • How to set a complex custom crontab in google-app-engine (java)?

    I am building an app for which I need to set up cron jobs. What I want to do is to set the specific minutes in a hour where specific crons should run. For instance: Task1 at 1st minute of the hour Task2 on every second minute of the hour Task3 every 2 minute only in the second half of the hour Building this in the standard Unix cron format is reasonably straightforward, but could not figure out how to do it in the Google-App-Engine. The documentation does not list any non-trivial examples. Any suggestions on how to do it? Examples would be excellent.

  • How to I change the text location on my google map for map clusters in Fluster2?

    Hi, I'm using google maps to create a bunch of POI on a map. I'm using the Fluster2 library to cluster the POI together when there are too many in a certain location. This all works fine and I'm very happy but I would like to move where the fluster2 text is written so it matches my custom icon. ie: it has a marker with 5 written over it so that you know there are 5 poi under that cluster. Does anyone know how to change this or set the text to a specific location? Thanks The Net Duck

    I am passing lat and lng variables and display google sreet view in a div. The problem is that when the StreetView is unavilable then nothing is displayed. I would like to check if there is a streetview for a given lat and lng and display a message. Here is my code: var myPano = new GStreetviewPanorama(document.getElementById("street2"), panoOpts); var location = new GLatLng(lat,lng) myPano.setLocationAndPOV(location); Maybe I should use something like: Event.addListener(myPano, "error", errorMessage()); Any ideas?

  • How often does memcache on Google AppEngine lose data?

    Memcache in general and on AppEngine in specific is unreliable in the sense that my data may be deleted from the cache for whatever reason at any point in time. However, in some cases there might be cases where a small risk may be worth the added performance using memcache could give, such as updating some data in memcache that gets saved periodically to some other, more reliable storage. Are there any numbers from Google that could give me an indication of the actual probability that a memcache entry would be lost from the cache before its expiration time, given that I keep within my quotas? Are there any reasons other than hardware failure and administrative operations such as machines at the data centers being upgraded/moved/replaced that would cause entries to be removed from memcache prematurely?

  • Google App Engine application instance recycling and response times...

    Hi, I posted this on GAE for Java group, but I hope to get some answers here quicker :) I decided to do some long-run performance tests on my application. I created some small client hitting app every 5-30 minutes and I run 3-5 of threads with such client. I noticed huge differenced in response times and started to investigate issue. I found reason very quick. I am experiencing same issues as described in following topics: Uneven response time between connection to server to first byte sent Application instances seem to be too aggressively recycled Getting 'Request was aborted after waiting too long to attempt to service your request.' after application idle I am using Springframework, it tkes around 18-20s to start app instance, which is causing response times to take from 1s (when requests hits running app - very rare) to 22s when fresh application is created. Is there any solution for this? I was thinking about creating most basic servlet performing critical tasks (serving API call) and leave UI as is. But then I would loose all benefits of Springframework. Is there any solution for this? After solving (hacking) numerous constrains of App Engine which I hit while developing my app that is the one I think will make me move out of App Engine... that's simply to much to all the time think how to win with GAE problems than how to solve my application problems...   • How to parse large xml files on google app engine?

    Hey, I have fairly large xml file 1mb in size that i host on s3. I need to parse that xml file into my app engine datastore entirely. I have written a simple DOM parser that works fine locally but online it reaches the 30sec error and stops. I tried lowering the xml parsing by downloading the xml file into a BLOB at first before the parser then parse the xml file from blob. problem is that blobs are limited to 1mb. so it fails. I have multiple inserts to the datastore which cause it to fail on 30 sec. i saw somewhere that they recommend using the Mapper class and save some exception where the process stopped but as i am a python n00b i cant figure out how to implement it on a DOM parser or an SAX one (please provide an example?) on how to use it. i'm pretty much doing a bad thing right now and i parse the xml using php outside the app engine and push the data via HTTP post to the app engine using a proprietary API which works fine but is stupid and makes me maintain two codes. can you please help me out?

  • Add Social Elements to Your Gmail Contacts with Rapportive

    Would you like to discover more about your contacts?  Xobni is a great tool for this in Outlook, and thanks to a small plugin for Gmail, you can get similar functionality right from your favorite webmail app. Setup Rapportive on Your Gmail Browse to the Rapportive site (link below), and click install to add it to your browser.  Rapportive currently only supports Firefox and Google Chrome.  In this test, we installed it on Google Chrome.  Notice that Chrome warns Rapportive may access your private data from Gmail, though Rapportive says that they only use this data securely on your computer or their servers. Next time you log into Gmail, open a message to see the new Rapportive sidebar.  Click Log in to get started. Choose if you want to let Rapportive to access your data. Finally, choose whether to stay logged into Rapportive or to log out when you log out of Gmail.   Using Rapportive Now, when you open an email, you should see more information about your contact on the right side of the message where you usually see Google AdSense ads. You may see an avatar, short bio, and links to their social networks.  You can add notes about a contact also, which lets you use Rapportive as a CRM. You may see more information on some contacts.  Here we see a contact that shows recent Tweets and links to several social networks. Take Rapportive Further You can add more features to Rapportive with Raplets, which are small extensions that add more information or CRM functionality.  To add these, click the Rapportive button on the top of Gmail, and select Add Raplets to Rapportive. Find a Raplet you want, and click Add This. A popup will open to give you more information about the Raplet; click the Add button at the bottom if you still want it. And, if you’re wish to close Rapportive without logging out of Gmail, click the Rapportive link in Gmail and select Log out. Conclusion Whether you want to find out more about your contacts or keep track of notes about them, Rapportive is a great way to do this from Gmail.  With tools like this, Gmail gets a bit more powerful and feels more like a desktop application.   • Objective-C wrapper API design methodology

    I know there's no one answer to this question, but I'd like to get people's thoughts on how they would approach the situation. I'm writing an Objective-C wrapper to a C library. My goals are: 1) The wrapper use Objective-C objects. For example, if the C API defines a parameter such as char *name, the Objective-C API should use name:(NSString *). 2) The client using the Objective-C wrapper should not have to have knowledge of the inner-workings of the C library. Speed is not really any issue. That's all easy with simple parameters. It's certainly no problem to take in an NSString and convert it to a C string to pass it to the C library. My indecision comes in when complex structures are involved. Let's say you have: struct flow { long direction; long speed; long disruption; long start; long stop; } flow_t; And then your C API call is: void setFlows(flow_t inFlows[4]); So, some of the choices are: 1) expose the flow_t structure to the client and have the Objective-C API take an array of those structures 2) build an NSArray of four NSDictionaries containing the properties and pass that as a parameter 3) create an NSArray of four "Flow" objects containing the structure's properties and pass that as a parameter My analysis of the approaches: Approach 1: Easiest. However, it doesn't meet the design goals Approach 2: For some reason, this seems to me to be the most "Objective-C" way of doing it. However, each element of the NSDictionary would have to be wrapped in an NSNumber. Now it seems like we're doing an awful lot just to pass the equivalent of a struct. Approach 3: Seems the cleanest to me from an object-oriented standpoint and the extra encapsulation could come in handy later. However, like #2, it now seems like we're doing an awful lot (creating an array, creating and initializing objects) just to pass a struct. So, the question is, how would you approach this situation? Are there other choices I'm not considering? Are there additional advantages or disadvantages to the approaches I've presented that I'm not considering?

    The Cognos TM1 API provides two server connect/authenticate methods: TM1SystemServerConnect (when IntegratedSecurityMode = 1 or 2) TM1SystemServerConnectIntegratedLogin (when IntegratedSecurityMode = 2 or 3) There is however a 4th security mode for use with CAM/Cognos Access Manager (IntegratedSecurityMode = 4). As of 9.5, it appears there is still no way to authenticate via the API if you have CAM enabled on the TM1 server. Does anyone know different, or have a workaround?
