Basically I want to display all related posting of a certain posting. I want the query to select all the postings in the table that has the title name in the title and detail. But I don't want the posting to display in the related postings. $query="Select * From posting Where title,detail, like %$title% except $title"; how do I write the except part?

  • How do I load the Oracle schema into memory instead of the hard drive?

    I have a certain web application that makes upwards of ~100 updates to an Oracle database in succession. This can take anywhere from 3-5 minutes, which sometimes causes the webpage to time out. A re-design of the application is scheduled soon but someone told me that there is a way to configure a "loader file" which loads the schema into memory and runs the transactions there instead of on the hard drive, supposedly improving speed by several orders of magnitude. I have tried to research this "loader file" but all I can find is information about the SQL* bulk data loader. Does anyone know what he's talking about? Is this really possible and is it a feasible quick fix or should I just wait until the application is re-designed?

  • Node.js vs PHP processing speed

    I've been looking into node.js recently and wanted to see a true comparison of processing speed for PHP vs Node.js. In most of the comparisons I had seen, Node trounced Apache/PHP set ups handily. However all of the tests were small 'hello worlds' that would not accurately reflect any webpage's markup. So I decided to create a basic HTML page with 10,000 hello world paragraph elements. In these tests Node with Cluster was beaten to a pulp by PHP on Nginx utilizing PHP-FPM. So I'm curious if I am misusing Node somehow or if Node is really just this bad at processing power. Note that my results were equivalent outputting "Hello world\n" with text/plain as the HTML, but I only included the HTML as it's closer to the use case I was investigating. I certainly think Node has a real niche that it could fit well, however with these test results (which I really hope I made a mistake with - as I like the idea of Node) lead me to believe that it is a horrible choice for even a modest processing load when compared to PHP (let alone JVM or various other fast solutions). As a final note, I also tried running an Apache Bench test against node with $ ab -n 20 -c 20 http://speedtest.dev/ and consistently received a total test time of greater than 0.900 seconds.

  • Upload/Download images to FTP without bothering the user

    Hi, I know a lot of posts have been made in regards to FTP, but none have led me to what I need. I'm trying to upload a picture to a server (currently attempting FTP) but do it without notifying requiring the user to be involved. I want to be able to seamlessly upload/download the image when a certain user action occurs, but I don't want to use a third-party app like AndFTP. The idea is that a user will upload a picture, and then another user will be able to grab that picture based on which user put it up. No user will know where it's going or where it came from, nor will they navigate the FTP. Alternatively, does anyone have thoughts on a better way to do that? I thought of using the imgur api, but it can't be used commercially. It would, however, be perfect for my purposes. Is there a similar open-source alternative? Any help is greatly appreciated. Dan

  • Margin animate problem with Monitor display settings

    I have an issue with an animation on a webpage. I have this div with text inside of it that I set the margin using css and when the page is loaded I use jquery to animate the div to a certain part of the page. The problem is it works with my concrete pixel settings, but if I change the properties of the monitor display settings in screen resolution(pixels), the div does not animate to the appropriate spot and it doesn't even start off at the appropriate spot from the css. Sample code: #div{ position:absolute; top:20px; left:50px } $("#div").animate({marginLeft: "250px"},2000); Is there a way to have the settings of the animation margin end at the approriate position no matter what the screen resolution is?

  • How should I go about creating a point system for users like SO and yahoo answers?(PHP)

    I am creating a voting system for a Q&A site project in which if a user asks a question, he/she losses -5 points; answer a question +5, vote a question +1, etc. (kind of like SO and yahoo answers) --To create the basic arithmetic, I have a "users_points" table that relates the user_id and their total points. +---+---------+ | 1 | 100 | +---+---------+ | 2 | 54 | +---+---------+ --Basically if the users does certain task, it would + or - the points. How do I prevent users from say voting an answer up 100 times. ex: I want a user to be only able to vote once per question, etc.

    I am looking at some pointers on how to design a wrapper for these social networking sites. Ideally what I want to do is create a black box where I am able to create an interface for other libraries to call certain functions to interact with these social networking sites. I am planning on using oAuth for most of these sites, I already have this layer designed in PHP. The other layer that I need for these social sites is the ability to push and pull content. For example, the ability to pull feeds for users from each of these networks and then should I cache them on my end? how would I cache all twitter, facebook etc activity feed and be able to account for resync etc? The networks that I am looking at are: Twitter Youtube Facebook LinkedIN Vimeo Flickr I am looking for ideas on how to tackle this in php? Any suggestions, opensource systems that I can learn from?

  • wxPython: Sending a signal to several widgets

    I am not even sure how to ask this question. I want something that is like the wxPython event system, but a bit different. I'll try to explain. When there is a certain change in my program (a "tree change", never mind what that is,) I want to send a signal to all the widgets in my program, notifying them that a "tree change" has occurred, and they should change their display in response. How do I do this? It sounds a little bit like wxPython events, but not really, since events don't spread to all widgets, as far as I know. What would be a good way to do this?

    I haven't yet implemented this, I'm still in the thinking stage, but I have to go through a file and replace a certain string with another string. For example, <img src="/images/logo.gif" ... should become <img src="/proxy/www.example.com/images/logo.gif" ... Any advice on how I can approach this? Perhaps there exist some "string replace" C functions that would do this for me that I don't know about...? Right now, if I had to write this function myself, I would give it as parameters the file, string to replace, replacement string. Then I would manually go through the file and look for an occurrence of the string and recreate it. This, however, seems very inefficient. Are there better ways to do this? Thanks, Hristo

    Using javascript, how can we auto insert the current DATE and TIME into a form input field. I'm building a "Problems" form to keep track of user submitted complaints about a certain service. I'm collecting as much info as possible. I want to save the staff here from having to manually enter the date and time each time they open the form.   • Polymorphism in SQL database tables?

    I currently have multiple tables in my database which consist of the same 'basic fields' like: name character varying(100), description text, url character varying(255) But I have multiple specializations of that basic table, which is for example that tv_series has the fields season, episode, airing, while the movies table has release_date, budget etc. Now at first this is not a problem, but I want to create a second table, called linkgroups with a Foreign Key to these specialized tables. That means I would somehow have to normalize it within itself. One way of solving this I have heard of is to normalize it with a key-value-pair-table, but I do not like that idea since it is kind of a 'database-within-a-database' scheme, I do not have a way to require certain keys/fields nor require a special type, and it would be a huge pain to fetch and order the data later. So I am looking for a way now to 'share' a Primary Key between multiple tables or even better: a way to normalize it by having a general table and multiple specialized tables.

  • How Can I Check an Object to See its Type and Return A Casted Object

I have tried every which way I can think of to do this and I always get several compiler errors telling me it expects a certain object but gets another.   • Setting the background colour/highlight colour for a given string range using Core Text

    I have some text laid out using Core Text in my iPhone app. I'm using NSAttributedString to set certain styles within the text for given ranges. I can't seem to find an attribute for setting a background / highlight colour, though it would seem it is possible.   • Measuring Web Page Performance on Client vs. Server

    I am working with a web page (ASP.net 3.5) that is very complicated and in certain circumstances has major performance issues. It uses Ajax (through the Telerik AjaxManager) for most of its functionality. I would like to be able to measure in some way the amounts of time for the following, for each request: On client submitting request to server Client-to-Server On server initializing request On server processing request Server-to-Client Client rendering, JavaScript processing I have monitored the database traffic and cannot find any obvious culprit. On the other hand, I have a suspicion that some of the Ajax interactions are causing performance issues. However, until I have a way to track the times involved, make a baseline measurement, and measure performance as I tweak, it will be hard to work on the issue. So what is the best way to measure all of these? Is there one tool that can do it? Combination of FireBug and logging inserted into different places in the page life-cycle?

    Hey guys, I have a WordPress site for a client. He owns a video store, and I made a site for him to update the list of movies, usually just the "new this week" movies. The Pod has a field where you insert the release date. 2010-04-20 Then there is a Pod page/template combo that calls the movies with a certain release date like this: $date = pods_url_variable('last'); He then just creates a blank WP page with the slug 2010-04-20 So when you open that page, the Pod page/template reads that slug and renders a list of the appropriate movies. My problem: I need these to be searchable. Is this possible. I'm also open to suggestions on other ways to go about making this site work. I need it to be as simple as that. Uploads some movies and creates a new page. Then the rest is done automatically. Please and thank you guys

  • Data sync solution?

    For some security issues I'm in an envorinment where third party apps can't access my DB. For this reason I should have some service/tool/script (dunno what yet... i'm open to the best option, still reading to see what I'm gonna do...) which enables me to generate on a regular basis(daily, weekly, monthly) some csv file with all new/modified records for a certain application. I should be able to automate this process and also export at any time a new file. So it should keep track for each application which records he still needs. Each application will need some data in some other format (csv/xls/sql), also some fields will be needed for some application and some aren't... It should be fairly flexible... What is the best option for me? Creating some custom tables for each application? Based on that extracting modified data?

  • iPhone OS: implementing your own achievements, how do I do it?

    I'm working on a game where really the only game part is (at least right now) that the user can unlock achievements as she does various things throughout the game. I have a database that can keep track of certain user actions and record how many times a user does something but I'm having trouble figuring out the best way to architect the app so that I have to do the least amount of work. Kind of suck with the timing because gamecenter is not ready and it seems like openfeint is changing gears, but maybe I'm wrong.   • Timeline graph - how to handle "time gaps"?

    I've been working with Google chart API and annotated timeline. Drawing graphs is fine. I have no problem. However, I need to draw a timeline graph for share prices. And as you may know, share prices are meaningful only between certain times (e.g. from 10AM to 4PM, when the market opens and closes). How do I change the Google timeline graph so that on X-Axis, the range is from 10AM-4PM? Right now, it just draws a long constant line between 4PM till 10AM next day before prices start to move again. Man, I hope that makes sens. (Google finance chart seems to do it).   • The benefits and hassles of moving entirely to a WPF Project

    Hi, I have a project that i started as a WinForms application as that was the format i was confortable with at the time. I have since started dabbling in WPF an introduced some WPF UserControls (mainly grids) into my project and absolutely love them. The question i have is, is there any real advantage to me changing the UI Project of my solution into a purely WPF project, and get rid of any WinForms? I am fully aware that each format suits a certain environment, and you wouldnt be able to give a definitive answer without knowing more of the details, but i would like to know peoples opinions, and if anyone has done a silimar thing of converting an existing WinForms App into a WPF frontend, and any observations they made in doing so.   • What's the best way to check that environment variables are set in Unix shellscript

    I've got a few Unix shell scripts where I need to check that certain environment variables are set before I start doing stuff, so I do this sort of thing: if [ -z "$STATE" ]; then echo "Need to set STATE" exit 1 fi if [ -z "$DEST" ]; then echo "Need to set DEST" exit 1 fi which is a lot of typing. Is there a more elegant idiom for checking that a set of environment variables is set? EDIT: I should mention that these variables have no meaningful default value - the script should error out if any are unset.

  • Easy Flood Fill

    Some advice, please. I'm just starting out in C#. I've managed to get some shapes created on a Windows form, and now I'd like to fill them with color. In the old C++ I studied years ago, there was a floodfill function that was really easy. It has been an unpleasant realization to find there's not a similar method available in regular old C#. Does anyone have advice for me, or some code, so I can implement filling without understanding GDI+, DirectX, or rest of the avalanche of acronyms that I've run into by researching this on the web? I need to fill irregular shapes, bounded by a certain color. Gradient and transparency control would be nice, but I'd settle for plain old solid fill right now, just to get a modicom of control over this. Any help, code or advice would be really appreciated.

  • What's a good tutorial for creating a gem with RSpec?

    I've been searching around for ways to create a gem with RSpec, but haven't found descriptive tutorials. I started out with Ryan Bates' Making a gem, but I'm looking for a tutorial that discusses creating an acts_as style gem with RSpec. By acts_as, I mean to say that the gem adds certain methods to an existing class in Rails. Why is this important? Because I've found gem templates like New Gem, got a spec to run but when I try to test an Active Record object it starts choking. I've tried requiring active_record in spec_helper.rb but I must be doing something wrong because it doesn't solve the problem. When it comes to plugins, I found this Rails Guide. If there's a gem version for that around that'd be awesome. Thanks guys! P.S. I love screencasts.

Im looking for a query, where I get all the books of a certain user including the bookmarks. If no bookmarks are there, there should be a null included... my sql statement looks like: SELECT * FROM `books` LEFT OUTER JOIN `bookmarks ` ON bookmarks.book_id = books.id AND bookmarks.user_id = ? In rails I only know the :include statement, but how can I add the second bookmarks.user_id = ? statement in the ON section of this query? if I put it in the :conditions part, no null results would get returned!   • UnauthorizedAccessException cannot resolve Directory.GetFiles failure

    Hi all, Directory.GetFiles method fails on the first encounter with a folder it has no access rights to. The method throws an UnauthorizedAccessException (which can be caught) but by the time this is done, the method has already failed/terminated. The code I am using is listed below: try { // looks in stated directory and returns the path of all files found getFiles = Directory.GetFiles(@directoryToSearch, filetype, SearchOption.AllDirectories); } catch (UnauthorizedAccessException) { } As far as I am aware, there is no way to check beforehand whether a certain folder has access rights defined. In my example, I'm searching on a disk across a network and when I come across a root access only folder, my program fails. I have searched for a few days now for any sort of resolve, but this problem doesn't seem to be very prevalent on here or Google. I look forward to any suggestions you may have, Regards
