  • Strategy in storing ad-hoc numbers/constants?

    I have a need to store a number of ad-hoc figures and constants for calculation. These numbers change periodically but they are different type of values. One might be a balance, a money amount, another might be an interest rate, and yet another might be a ratio of some kind. These numbers are then used in a calculation that involve other more structured figures. I'm not certain what the best way to store these in a relational DB is - that's the choice of storage for the app. One way, I've done before, is to create a very generic table that stores the values as text. I might store the data type along with it but the consumer knows what type it is so, in situations I didn't even need to store the data type. This kind of works fine but I am not very fond of the solution. Should I break down each of the numbers into specific categories and create tables that way? For example, create Rates table, and Balances table, etc.?

  • emacs -- keybind questions

    I have successfully used Ctrl+Shift+Up ' Ctrl+Shift+down ' Ctrl+Shift+left' Ctrl+Shift+Right to different commands. But when I tried to use Ctrl+s to the command save-buffer and Ctrl+Shift+s, which is equivalent to Ctrl+S, to another command, it has some problem. save-buffer works fine, but when I type Ctrl+Shift+s, it excute the command save-buffer. I used Ctrl+q to find the control sequences of Ctrl+s and Ctrl+Shift+S, I get the same result, which is ^S. I expect that I will get ^s for Ctrl+s, but it doesn't. Anyone knows the reason? Another queston is: I use Ctrl+c for the command killing-ring-save. In this case, all commands (which are of large number) begin with Ctrl+c don't work now. Is there a way to replace the prefix Ctrl+c by another customized prefix? I may pose my question in the wrong direction. I use ctrl+c as killing-ring-save. It works fine in emacs (no mode). But if I open a .c file (C-mode), then when I type Ctrl+c, it waits me to type another key. I think in this case, ctrl+c is regarded as a prefix. In this case, I need the following modifications: Using a custom defined prefix, say Ctrl+a, as Ctrl+c ; Remove the prefix Ctrl+c ; Using Ctrl+c as killing-ring-save. I add the following to my ~/.emacs : (defun my-c-initialization-hook () (define-key c-mode-base-map (kbd "C-a") mode-specific-map) (define-key c-mode-base-map (kbd "C-c") 'kill-ring-save)) (add-hook 'c-initialization-hook 'my-c-initialization-hook) But this doesn't work. Ctrl+c is still regarded as a prefix, so I can't use it as kill-ring-save. Furthermore, if I type Ctrl+a Ctrl+c, it said it's not defined.     Hello, I need to parse a text file that has a lot of levels and characters. I've been trying different ways to parse it but I haven't been able to get anything to work.   • Javascript to PHP, mysql uploading, one button pressing solution

    my program is generating buttons from a mysql database.When one of the button is pressed, it would uplod the current time and the gps coordinate. Sadly, it only works if the same button is pressed twice, but its not an option, because the button has to dissappear.   • Cannot export a fusionchart with 'Embedding Charts Using <OBJECT>/<EMBED> Tags'

    I am trying to export a fusion chart created using 'Embedding Charts Using / Tags'. Export works just perfect with the right click (on the chart) and chose a pdf to export. But I am not able to make this work via javascript.   • Facebook Stream.Get -- How to access data in array?

    On stream.get, I try to echo $feeds["posts"][$i]["attachment"]["href"]; It return the URL, but, in the same array scope where "type" is located (which returns string: video, etc), trying $feeds["posts"][$i]["attachment"]["type"] returns nothing at all! Here's an array through PHP's var_dump: http://pastie.org/930475 So, from testing I suppose this is protected by Facebook? Does that makes sense at all? Here it's full: http://pastie.org/930490, but not all attachment/media/types has values. It's also strange, because I can't access through [attachment][media][href] or [attachment][media][type], and if I try [attachment][media][0][type] or href, it gives me a string offset error.     Suppose I have a query that returns result like this: Project Year Type Amt PJ00001 2012 1 1000 PJ00001 2012 2 1000 PJ00001 2011 1 1000 PJ00002 2012 1 1000 What I want: Every Project will have 2 rows of Types for each Year. If the row is not there, add it to the result with Amt = 0. For example: - PJ00001 have 2 rows of type 1,2 in 2012 -- OK. But in 2011, it only have 1 row of Type 1 -- We add one row:PJ00001 2011 2 0 - PJ00002 have only 1 row of type 1 -- add:PJ00002 2012 2 0 Is there a way to easily do it. The only way I know now is to create a view like: PJ_VIEW.     I'm using the Textpattern CMS to build a discussion site-- I have a firm grasp of XHTML and CSS, as well as Textpattern's template language, but PHP and Javascript are a bit beyond my cunning. On the input form to begin a new topic, users need to select a category from a list of over 5,000 options. Using the HTML select-type input element is very unwieldy, but it works. I would like to use some kind of Javascript magic to display a text-type input element that will read user input and display matches or autocomplete from the available categories, passing the required option's value into the appropriate database field. I've seen several autocomplete plugins for jquery, but the instructions presuppose that you understand how Javascript works. As I mentioned above, it's easy for me to generate the category list as a select-type input element, and I can hide that element using CSS. Is it possible to control select-list input using an autocomplete mechanism in a text-type input element? How would I do that?

There is a counter which I would like to increase the value of using jQuery (so that the page does not need to refresh) when the button is clicked. I want to be able to search in the Products index.html.erb so a user selects a type from a drop down list, clicks search and all the products matching that type are returned. I can get normal search methods working where the user enters in their search in a text box but I cannot get it working when they just select from a dropdown. Can anyone help?

    I have a rest/xml service that gives me the following... <verse-unit unit-id="38009001"> <marker class="begin-verse" mid="v38009001"/> <begin-chapter num="9"/><heading>Judgment on Israel&apos;s Enemies</heading> <begin-block-indent/> <begin-paragraph class="line-group"/> <begin-line/><verse-num begin-chapter="9">1</verse-num>The burden of the word of the <span class="divine-name">Lord</span> is against the land of Hadrach<end-line class="br"/> <begin-line class="indent"/>and Damascus is its resting place.<end-line class="br"/> <begin-line/>For the <span class="divine-name">Lord</span> has an eye on mankind<end-line class="br"/> <begin-line class="indent"/>and on all the tribes of Israel,<footnote id="f1"> A slight emendation yields <i> For to the <span class="divine-name">Lord</span> belongs the capital of Syria and all the tribes of Israel </i> </footnote><end-line class="br"/> </verse-unit> I used visual studio to generate a schema from this and used XSD.EXE to generate classes that I can use to deserialize this mess into programmable stuff. I got everything to work and it is deserialized perfectly (almost). The problem I have is with the random text mixed throughout the child nodes. The generated verse-unit objects gives me a list of objects (begin-line, begin-block-indent, etc), and also another list of string objects that represent the bits of string throughout the xml. I need the random text that is NOT surrounded by an xml node to be represented by an object so I know the order that everything is in. I know this is complicated, so let me try to simplify it. <field name="test_field_0"> Some text I'm sure you don't want. <subfield>Some text.</subfield> More text you don't want. </field> I need the xsd to generate a field object with items that can have either a text object, or a subfield object. I need to no where the random text is within the child nodes.

  • How can one tell that FLAC or WAVPACK audio file is NOT originally encoded from a Lossy source?

    Hi everyone, Forgive me for my ignorance,firstly. Problem: Say I have a lossy mp3 audio file(5.17Mb ie. 87% compressed from its original souce-unknown), I then encode it to another LOSSLESS format, say FLAC or WAVPACK. The size increases(23.14Mb ie. 39% compressed from its original souce-mp3)! ID tags, etc remain the same and there's no way of checking the integrity of its origin. Question: Is there a way of checking that the so-called FLAC or WAVPACK audio file was originally encoded from a LOSSLESS source(wav,cda,ape,...etc) instead of a LOSSY source(mp3,aac,ATRAC,..etc) Thank you.     Hi I hope someone can help me..... i am trying to build a dynamic form for a questionnaire module. Building on some previous posts I am using the process similar to that in question "http://stackoverflow.com/questions/629021/how-to-generate-a-formmxform-dynamically-in-flex" i have managed to prove out the fact of extending the XML to include a calendar, combobox etc. my problem is that now need to get the data from an ArrayCollection rather than from an xml file.     In a unit test case that I am running, I get a KeyError exception on the 4th json object in the json text below.
