  • How to catch printf from a dll?

    I've got a C++ console application that uses a third-party dll (jvm.dll, indirectly) that uses printf to print various error messages (Java stacktrace). I need to catch these stacktraces to a string in order to process them further, or at least to see them printed on the console. The thing is that I see the stacktrace only when debugging my application in VisualStudio (VS 2010). When I run my application in the "normal way", i.e. from the command line, nothing is printed on the console. So VS is able to somehow interfere the java output and display it. I need to be able to do the same thing. I've already tried freopen(), but without success. Also, I've found this question on the same problem, but without a clear answer.

  • Why is the modal dialog in MFC actually internally modeless?

    This question arose in my miind after reading this article: http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/3911/The-singular-non-modality-of-MFC-modal-dialogs. He mentions that the modal dialog in MFC is not strictly modal, but implemented as a modeless dialog(internally) with bells and whistles to make it behave as a modal one. Specifically, he says: The MFC command routing mechanism uses a combination of message maps and virtual functions to achieve what it does and a true modal dialog will totally wreck this mechanism because then the modal message loop is controlled outside the scope of the MFC command routing machinery Could anyone elucidate this statement? An example of what would have gone wrong if they had tried to implement a truly modal dialog would greatly clear things up.

  • Registry corrupted for testing?

    Hi. Forgive my ignorance. I'm a lowly LAMP stack developer and this is my first post for "c++". We had an Internet Explorer add-on commissioned but then lost support. Allegedly each version has to be have been tested "on a fresh computer since old add-ons could have cause registry errors." I'm not familiar with IE add-on development (or c++ dev). Is this common? Can't one simply reverse registry errors? How to continue testing iterations on one machine? Thanks!

    The code generation is working but I get the following errors when I try to build the project: Error 4 Source file '...Project Path...\Structs.cs' could not be opened ('Unspecified error ') PPSGenerator Error 5 Source file '...Project Path...\Context.cs' could not be opened ('Unspecified error ') PPSGenerator Error 6 Source file '...Project Path...\ActiveRecord.cs' could not be opened ('Unspecified error ') PPSGenerator Error 7 Source file '...Project Path...\StoredProcedures.cs' could not be opened ('Unspecified error ') PPSGenerator I'm using VS2010 on a Windows 7 64 bit machine. Project is targeting Framework 3.5... any ideas? Also noticed the following warnings, but not sure that these are as important: Warning 1 The C# 2.0 and C# 3.5 compilers are no longer supported.   • Hide Non-Displayed ASP Elements in Design View

    Is there a way to prevent non-displayed elements from appearing in the ASPX Design View editor? By "non-displayed elements", I mean the background elements (Managers, DataSources, Validators, etc) that show up as grey boxes containing the type and id. If I have several of those at the top of the page, I can't see much of the preview of my page.

  • vb.net array for slideshow button

    Hey all, i am in the middle of trying to figure out how to go about doing this... I have a form that i call like so: call frmSlideShow.showWhat(1,4,8,9,11,22) Each of the numbers represents a different image slide (slide1.png, slide4.png, etc..). The problem i am having is trying to create a "previous" and "next" button to flip through them all. Trying to figure out what number the user is on and going from there and seeing what numbers are still left from the list above that was sent, etc. If anyone has an idea how i would go about doing that then that would be awesome! :) David

    Does anyone know if there is a way to "transform" specific sections of values instead of replacing the whole value or an attribute? For example, I've got several appSettings entries that specify the Urls for different webservices. These entries are slightly different in the dev environment than the production environment. I've looked through the available web.config Transforms but nothings seems to be geared towars what I am trying to accomplish.   • Exclude files only in "release" in VS2008 config

    Hi Guys, I was wondering how to "Exclude" individual files in the "release" web.csproj config of my solution. I've seen other answers and they all feature "include" - but this is not what I am wanting to achieve. I only want to exclude around 10-15 files from a "release" package ? I don't want to manually edit the web.csproj file - so is there any way I can do this via web.config or ? How would I go about doing this ?

I am using VS2010. I have created the dataset, for the data i need from this xml. Is there any way to map this XML directly on dataset? Any other idea? I also have to save some other more complex XML files to database. I have tried xsd.exe to create xsd schema for this XML.

  • missing ';' before namespace when using boost 1.4.2

    Working on moving some C++ code from Linux over to Windows. The code uses boost 1.4.2, however it keeps failing out on building the boost modules. Basically, every boost hpp file that happens to contain "namespace boost" errors with: error C2143: syntax error : missing ';' before 'namespace' Any idea what could be causing this?

But the response time for TestCase1 is about 3 times better than TestCase2. Can someone see what i am missing here ? many thanks

  • Multiple infowindows - tearing my hair out

    Ok, I'll admit I'm nowhere near the best programmer on the planet - and I'm used to the answer staring me right in the face but not making sense of it. Problem I need to display multiple markers on a map, each with their own infowindow. I have created the individual markers without a problem, but don't know how to create the infowindows for each. Steps so far I am generating a map using the V3 API within an ASP-based website, with markers being created from a set of DB records. The markers are created by looping through a rs and defining a marker() with the relevant variables: var myLatlng = new google.maps.LatLng(lat,long); var marker = new google.maps.Marker({ map: map, position: myLatlng, title: 'locationname', icon: 'http://google-maps-icons.googlecode.com/files/park.png' }); This is creating all the relevant markers in their correct locations. What I need to do now, and am not sure of how to achieve is give each of them their own unique infowindow which I can use to display information and links relevant to that marker.   • How to organize asp.net mvc project (using entity framework) and a corresponding database project?

    I recently switched to vs2010 and am experimenting with asp.net MVC2. I am building a simple website and use the entity framework to design the data model. From the .edmx file, I generate the database tables. After a few iterations, I decided that it would be nice to have version control of the database schema as well, and therefore I added a database project into which I imported the script that is generated from the datamodel. As a result, I have to generate the sql every time that I change the model and redo the import. The database project automatically updates the database. Although the manual steps to generate the sql and the import are annoying, this works pretty well, until I wanted to add the standard tables for user accounts/authorization etc. I can use the framework tools to add the necessary tables, views etc. to the database, but as I do not want to have them in the .edmx model I end up with a third manual step. Is anybody facing similar issues?

  • How do I merge multiple PDB files ?

    We are currently using a single command line tool to build our product on both Windows and Linux. Si far its works nicely, allowing us to build out of source and with finer dependencies than what any of our previous build system allowed. This buys us great incremental and parallel build capabilities. To describe shortly the build process, we get the usual: .cpp -- cl.exe --> .obj and .pdb multiple .obj and .pdb -- cl.exe --> single .dll .lib .pdb multiple .obj and .pdb -- cl.exe --> single .exe .pdb The msvc C/C++ compiler supports it adequately. Recently the need to build a few static libraries emerged. From what we gathered, the process to build a static library is: multiple .cpp -- cl.exe --> multiple .obj and a single .pdb multiple .obj -- lib.exe --> a single .lib The single .pdb means that cl.exe should only be executed once for all the .cpp sources. This single execution means that we can't parallelize the build for this static library. This is really unfortunate. We investigated a bit further and according to the documentation (and the available command line options): cl.exe does not know how to build static libraries lib.exe does not know how to build .pdb files Does anybody know a way to merge multiple PDB files ? Are we doomed to have slow builds for static libraries ? How do tools like Incredibuild work around this issue ?

  • CLR SQL Assembly: Get the Bytestream?!

    I have a SQL CLR dll I want to deploy, but have found you can embed the byte stream/varbinary_literal/ varbinary_expression/assembly bits into a text file to get around the messy hassle of packaging a DLL and making sure it's accessible for the CREATE ASSEMBLY command. But what I have yet to find is how to get that byte stream/varbinary_literal/ varbinary_expression/assembly bits value. I haven't found any consistent terminology, and what I keep finding in using Load(). Help?

  • How do I track the method the user is looking at in VS 2010 IDE as an Addin

    I have been wandering around the object model for VS 2010 and haven't been able to work out the best method for watching what the user is looking at in the main edit window. I know that each Class/method/property is broken down into its own . What I would ideally like is to hook to an event which says "The user has moved the cursor onto Project.Class.Method" and ideally "and is looking at line 4". Any suggestions?

This is somewhat annoying. Is there any way to disable this?

  • NuGet Update Error?

    Using the NuGet package manager dialog at the solution level in the normal course of updating a package reference once the process is complete there is a green tick on the item and the update button disappears. However, with certain of my packages the update process completes, as far as I can tell successfully, but no green tick and the update button remains. Press it again and the next dialog shows that no projects require an update for that package. Am I missing something here or is this a bug?

    I have a database on line with Godaddy (who uses SQL Server 2005). They provide basic management tools, but tell you that for more advanced tools you can connect directly using SSMS. I followed their instructions to ensure my online database will accept remote connections, and can apparently log in using SSMS with success (after giving my hostname and access data).
