  • VMworkstation Windows 7 vm from physical partition?

    Hi All, i have a machine with 2 disks. my secondary drive has two partitions, one of which is a windows 7 64 boot partition. I have VM workstation and i would like to make a VM from the physical partition (described above). Ideally this would boot from the live disk, but if i can make a vmdk from the two partitions on the secondary drive that would be fine. 1 issue is the drive is 140gig raptor of which the two partitions i want are 40g and 30g partitions. the rest of the space is unallocated. So if i make a vmdk i really need it to be fixed at say 80 gig. I have converter but i don't understand how i can make the vmdk using this... specs Drive 1: this drive is a 120 SSD, running the host OS (Windows 7 64bit) - i've got 95 gigs free on this Drive 2: 140 gig raptor, partition 1 40g is also a windows 7 64bit install, partition 2 is 35 gig with program files folder on it.. sorta of needed to get the vm to work. There is 65gig unallocated on this disk. Drive 1 will host drive 2 as a VM.. my hope.

  • Windows 7 : access denied to ONE server from ONE computer

    We have a domain served by some Windows 2003 servers. We have several Windows 7 Pro clients. ONE client computer can't acces ONE member Windows 2003 server. The other computers can acces every servers. And the same computer can access other servers. With explorer, the message says the account is no activated. With the command line, the message says the account is locked. With commande line : net use X: \\server\share --> several seconds delay, then error (says the account is locked) net use X: \\server\share /USER:current_username --> okay net use X: \\server\share /USER:domain_name\current_username --> okay From the same computer, the user can access other servers. From another computer, the same user can access any server, including the one denied from the original computer. Aleady done : unjoin then join the cilent from the domain. check the logs on the server : nothing about the failed attempts (?!) Is their any user mapping I'm not aware of ?

  • Windows 7 constantly accessing hard drive [duplicate]

    Possible Duplicate: Tool which finds which process is causing the heavy hard drive activity? Did you notice that on Windows 7 (I use 64-bit) the hard drive LED is constantly blinking, which means that the OS is constantly wearing the hard drive by accessing it? It's something related to the system process, and it even occurs in safe mode, so I don't think it's a third party software problem. Has anyone experienced this problem as well, and is it a Windows problem, or caused by something else? Edit: My indexing service is reduced to indexing only the Start Menu. Even if it was set for the whole computer, it would eventually stop; that's not it. My friends also suffer from the same problem. Please answer my first question: have any of you have seen a Windows 7 machine whose hard drive LED is at rest? I'm also trying to track down the offending process using procmon and Resource Monitor, and it actually seems like a system process. It could also be svchost.exe, and I'm not sure which file they are accessing since I see a lot of activity which I can't make sense of. It's loading system DLLs, accessing registry keys, and other nonsense.

  • Can't add client machine to windows server 2008 domain controller

    A bit of background before I dive into the gritty details: I have a single server running Windows 2003 Server where I host my ASP.net website and SQL Server + Reports. I've been creating ordinary windows user accounts to authenticate my users, and I enabled integrated windows authentication with impersonation. I've set up a bunch of user groups which correspond to certain roles (admin, power user, normal user, etc) and I test membership to enable or disable certain features. Overall, I'm pretty happy with the solution, it was quick to setup and I don't have to worry about messing around storing passwords and whatnot. Well, what I'm trying to do now is set up a new environment with 3 servers (Web, SQL, Reports) and I'd like these three servers to share common user accounts. I understand that I could add these three machines to a domain, which means installing Active Directory on one of the machines. I am barking up the wrong tree here? Would you suggest an alternative configuration? Assuming that I stick with AD, I have a couple of questions regarding DNS. To be honest, I'd rather not fiddle around with the DNS settings because my ISP already has their own DNS server which works just fine. It would appear however that DNS and AD are intertwined. Firstly, if I am to create a new domain in called mycompany.net, do I actually need to be the registered owner of that domain name and ensure the DNS entry points to the IP address of the machine hosting AD? Secondly, for the two other machines that I am trying to add to the domain, do I need to fiddle with their DNS settings? I've tried setting the preferred DNS Server IP address to that of my newly installed AD, but no luck. At this point, I can't add the two other machines to the domain. Here are some diagnostics that I have run based on a few suggestions I read on forums (sorry they're in French, although I could translate if needed). I ran nltest, which seems to indicate that the client can discover the domain controller. When I run dcdiag, the call to DsGetDcName fails with error 1722, not really sure what that means.     When I run a game on my windows 7 laptop, Rundll32 completely uses up one of my cores and the game wont start. By searching the web I have been able to fix it by 1 - Disabling game info collection/updation from the games explorer. It solved the problem for some games but not all 2 - Killing the game exe once rundll32 gets stuck and restarting the game This has solved the problem for now, but is there a proper and permanent solution to this?

It happens so quick I don't know which folder was moved and this means I just screwed up an application installation. Is there a way to undo this operation? Or someway to disable moving of folders by default? Using Windows 7.

  • Windows 8 black screen with mouse pointer after login

    I restarted my system today and after logging in, i could see see nothing but a black screen with mouse pointer. I can start task manager via alt+ctrl+del, Task manager and msconfig show fine but when i try to run 'explorer' nothing happens. In safe mode everything seems fine. I do not have any system restore points and repair options from the DVD show "this option is not available for the selected OS" I've also updated my graphic drivers. Didn't help

    Windows (all versions) folders have their standard names such as Users, Documents, Local Settings etc that are unfortunately translated in other language versions, and thus instead of the names that are in the path to the folder they appear in the file explorer under quite different names. For example, instead Pictures I get "Moje obrazy" (translation into Polish language), and yet in the path it is still "pictures". This is very confusing and I would like to turn this automatic translation off, but can't find how.

Similar options with middle-click would also be nice, such as scrolling the taskbar (maybe cycling directly through the Alt-Tab window). 7 Task Tweaker is close to this, actually, but it doesn't do what I would like.
