  • How to stop Time Machine on Mac to use removeable disk?

    One of my friend recently bought a Mac and somehow when she connect her removeable disk to the computer, Time Machine took control of this device use it as backup device automatically. So she could not use the disc for other purpose any more. When we connect it to windows, it could not be recognize any more. How can we get it back under control?

  • Client A can ping server S, but client B cannot

When I try to ping the server from client computer A I get the following: PING 74.208.192.xxx ==> Ping fails PING 74.208.192.xxx:80 ==> Ping succeeds! From client computer B, BOTH the pings fail. PING 74.208.192.xxx ==> Ping fails PING 74.208.192.xxx:80 ==> Ping fails with a message "Ping request could not find host 74.208.192.xxx:80" Both clients A and B are on the same subnet. The server is outside (a virtual server hosted by an ISP) I have an ASP.NET application in a virtual directory on the server. In IE or firefox, if I enter http://74.208.192.xxx/subdir/subdir/../Default.aspx, it works from both the clients! The server has default firewall settings but web server enabled (Port 80 is open). From client A (note the different 'reply to' address when the ping succeeds. My main problem is I have a web service (asmx) file and the web service client program is not able to access it from client B, but able to access it from client A. I am trying to find out why and thought this ping issue may shed some light. I can ping yahoo.com both the computers.

  • Drivers not installing and drives not being recognized

    Dell optiplex 755 running win7-32 Two problems, not sure if they're related 1: Two drivers are missing when viewing device manager, PCI serial port and PCI Simple Communications Controller, I've searched dell's site, and the internet as a whole and have been wholly unable to find the drivers. 2: I'm unable to connect any external hard drives, but any flash drives plugged in will be recognized and accessible by the computer without issue. Any help would be appreciated.

  • why am I seeing "ghost" folder contents on Vista?

    Today, after I clicked "folder X" in my external hard drive, instead of seeing the contents of "folder X", I see the contents of my flash drive...which is not connected to my computer. My flash drive's files show for a couple of seconds before I am brought to "folder X" which was the folder I wanted to go to as mentioned in the beginning of this post. Any idea why this happened? I'm using Vista 32-bit business edition.

I am using the following command on Mac, sudo scp ~/.ssh/mykey.rsa [email protected], there is no output from Mac command line. I am not sure whether the scp is success or not.     hi, i have homegroup on my pc and laptop, both running windows 7 , i can share the folders & files easily, but the problem is i cant stop sharing the folder. even i went to computer manage and stop sharing from there, but inside the homegroup the "stopped" share files are still showing. but now i cant open them because its showing the network resource is unavailable. but still the folders are showing how to hide them?

  • Ubuntu 9.1 - Audio coming from both speakers and headphones

    I have an HP Compaq nc8230 that has an annoying little problem with it's audio devices in Ubuntu 9.1. When I have the headphones plugged in, the audio continues to play simultaneously through the speakers no matter what. I'm not sure what kind of sound card this computer has, but in WIndows XP, Vista, 7 and OSx86 I didn't have this problem. I've tried using 3 different headphones and it didn't change anything. Please help.

    I wanted to reinstall Office 2003 Pro. I retrieved the key with NirSoft ProduKey, confirmed with Jelly Bean Windows Key Finder and the key is the same. I've tried 3 different Office 2003 PRO CD's and it still won't install because it's saying key is bad, i even tried with different key from other computer and it also won't install. Anyone can suggest some workaround?

When I first was using it 3 years ago, it would let you search a database of thousands of ready-made templates, which I think Microsoft hosted at their own website. Several months ago, these templates were no longer available. I'm looking for some kind of replacement for common computer architecture and digital circuits, as well as user interface mock-ups.     I have some command-line commands to execute on a Windows machine. The programs I need to run are only available on Windows. Is there a way to easily to do something like I would do with SSH? Example of what I mean: ssh [email protected] "remote command to execute" ...or do I have to Remote Desktop just to do this? (I'd like to run the commands programmatically from another computer rather than running them by hand.)

  • WOL not working with two NIC's

    We have recently moved from a windows 2003 server to an 08 R2. Running the program from the command line says that the magic packet has successfully been sent but it never actually reached the destination computer. We have two NIC's on the server. If I disable the NIC that isn't (currently) in use, WOL will work fine, but in the future we will need to use both NIC's. Also, we use MAC Addresses for WOL.

    If I run an executable file downloaded from the Internet, Windows displays a warning that this file can potentially harm my computer. This happens even for files downloaded by Firefox (not just IE.) On networked drive, this seems to slow down program launch time a lot. From Wikipedia, I learned that the feature is called "Attachment Execution Service". How can I completely disable it? If this cannot be done, how can I instruct Firefox not to set the "downloaded" flag on the file?

    I only have command line access to a server and I'm not allowed to disable the antivirus (which blocks netcat). What I would like to do is have a program that listens on port A and when a remote computer connects to it redirect all input/output of that socket to another server on a different port. Basically a small proxy. Is there anything that will let me do this from command line? If not I could try coding something simple that does this with C++

The users are end-users, on the low end of computer literate, non developers. We have around 5 support people and 50 or so end users.
