  • How to dynamically reference a "partial template" in MS Word?

    I want to make use of an "external reference" in Word. (for anyone that knows AutoCAD, I want XREF abilities in Word) Essentially I have a custom "header" that I want included in a whole pile of documents... that all reference a single file... such that if my address, logo, tagline, phone, fax or email changes, I update the one file, and all of the other 101 files that use it automatically update when I next open/use them. I'm using Office 2007 if that makes any difference.

  • Why can't anyone else access my website in IIS on Windows 7?

    I've got an ASP.NET application that I have in IIS on my Windows 7 Ultimate machine. I've tested it from that machine and it works fine. This machine is in my home network, a simple peer-to-peer network. The strange thing is that no one else in my network can access that website. Why is that? There are other Windows 7 machines here, and they're all in the some homegroup. When I attempt to access the website on my machine from one of the other machines, it fails and that's it. So, what's wrong?

  • Is it possible to restrict fileserver access to domain users using computers that are members of the domain?

    It seems domain isolation can be used to accomplish, but I'd like a solution that doesn't require IPsec, or more accurately, doesn't require IPsec on the fileserver. IPsec if done in software has a large CPU overhead and our NAS boxes don't support any kind of offload. The goal is to avoid authenticated users using non-managed machines to access network resources. Network Access Protection (NAP) and the various enforcement points looked promsiing but I couldn't find a bulletproof way to use them [which doesn't require IPsec on the fileserver]. I was thinking when a domain user accesses the NAS box it will first need a Kerberos ticket from AD, so if AD could somehow verify the computer that was requesting the ticket was in the domain I'd have a solution.

  • No Internet access while being connected to VPN using Cisco VPN Client 5.

    Hi, I have an access to corporate VPN using Cisco VPN Client 5.0.00:0340, but when I'm connected to it, I don't have an Internet access. I'm using Windows XP SP3. As it was suggested here http://forums.speedguide.net/showthread.php?t=209167 , I tried to enable "Allow local LAN Access" but it doesn't work. I also tried a second solution - deleting entry using "route" command, but it didn't help. I used "route delete 192.168.100.222". It's a third day of my attempts to solve this issue and I don't have an idea what else to do. I'm not very experienced in VPN stuff, but I know something about networking. Basing on my knowledge, I think that it's theoretically possible to achieve Internet access using my local network and only corporate stuff to be routed using VPN connection. I think that theoretically this should look like this: every IP being inside by corporation - VPN interface IP every other IP - my ethernet interface I've tried many possibilities of how to change those routes, but neither of them work. I'd really appreciate any help.   • MS Licensing - 3 windows machines, 30 users, how many CALs required?

    I'm in the middle of upgrading, and purchasing licensing for 3 of our Servers. One will be a Windows Server 2008 machine, running SQL Server 2008. The other two machines will be domain controllers, both running Windows 2003. Our organisation has 30 Users. I understand (through our reseller) that a Windows 2008 licence gives "downgrade" rights to use 2003. Realistically, for the above setup of 3 machines, will I just need one set of 30 CALs for 2008?

  • Can remote LogMeIn Hamachi users access our local LAN?

    Unknown to me, one of the kids has installed LogMeIn Hamachi on his PC so that he can access and play on his pal's Minecraft server, and vice versa. One of the things I did was disable the Client for Microsoft Networks and File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks on the Hamachi NIC in Windows 7's Network Connections. However, my lack of fu when it comes to these types of services is leaving me feeling a little uncomfortable about him using this. Is there anything I should be worried about here? For example, can his friends access our local LAN (which has a number of NAS boxes with unsecured shares) and get up to no good?

    Hi, I am running Ubuntu 10.10 via VMWare under Windows 7. I have followed the procedure to install the USB stick. It is now connected to the host. However, I don't know how to access the content of the stick. My Google research indicates that this may be a mounting issue. I read somewhere that I should check /proc/bus/usb, but the usb directory does not exist in /proc/bus. Unfortunately, I am not a Linux expert at this. The ultimate issue I am trying to solve is the one describe here. I am trying to use vi to create ~/.vmware/config, but it is virtually impossible to use vi, since I don't have access to the arrow keys (chicken & egg problem). I have created the config file on my usb stick and want to copy it where it should be. Thanks!

  • VirtualPC/XPMode... trying to let a VM access pages served using IIS on the host machine

    My host PC is running IIS7.5 under Windows7. I have a VM running XP to let me use IE6, but I've no idea what network settings on the VM/host are needed so the VM can access pages on the host. I thought if the host was 192.168.1.1, then from the VM I'd simply do http://192.168.1.1/... if I do this on the host it works but the VM can't see it. I'm assuming there are some shortcuts here rather than manually having to set up loads of permissions, e.g a shortcut way of letting the VM access the host maybe?

The cloud provider has advice on their website that I ought to use their AJAX console to get a key out-of-band with which to compare to the one shown by Filezilla. The AJAX console is launched from a link on the cloud provider's website which requires a login. Exactly how is this AJAX console considered to be out-of-band when it obviously is not a form of physical access to the server?

  • How to control remote access to Sonicwall VPN beyond passwords?

    I have a SonicWall TZ-210. I want an extremely easy way to limit external remote access to the VPN beyond just username and password, but I do not wish to buy/deploy a OTP appliance because that is overkill for my situation. I also do not want to use IPSec because my remote users are roaming. I want the user to be in physical possession of something, whether that is a pre-configured client with an encrypted key or a certificate .cer/.pfx of some sort. SonicWall used to offer "Certificate Services" for authentication, but apparently discontinued that a long time ago. So, what is everyone using in its place? Beyond the "Fortune 500" expensive solution, how do I limit access to the VPN to only those users who have possession of a certificate file or some other file or something beyond passwords? Thanks.

    I've ran into this cryptic statement for SQL Server: Files Per Database 32,767. What does that mean exactly? Is there a maximum number of tables for a given version of SQL Server. We try to support SQL Server post 2005 32-bit and 64-bit. So if anyone has a handy dandy table they use to figure out how many tables they can have per DB for Microsoft SQL Servers I'd heartily appreciate seeing it.

  • MS Word 2007 Mail Merge fails on ZIP codes with leading Zeros (eg. 01234)

    I have an Excel Spreadsheet with a ZIP code column. For some dumb reason the original spreadsheet I got had all the zip codes stored as numbers, so a ZIP code like 01234 was stored as 1234. Easy to fix with "Format Column" as "Special = ZIP Code". All values like 1234, show up as 01234. Great! When I import it into Word via Mail Merge (to print address labels), the ZIP codes on all the addresses starting with a leading zero (like 01234) revert to their old form (1234). How do I fix this?

  • Why can I not access any file or directory created by PHP from FTP-client?

    Hello there, If I create a directory with mkdir(), or create a file with fopen(), file_put_contents() or SimpleXMLElement::asXML(), I am unable to access the file with my FTP-client or c-Panel File Manager. If I try to delete or edit them, I get errors. Dreamweaver suggests it is a permission problem or a network or filesystem fault (but I've set the permissions with chmod() to 0777, and when I check the cPanel, it confirms chmod 777. I also tried to use fileowner() and the function returns int(99), the same owner as those files that I could access with my FTP-client. It seems files and directories created with PHP can only be modified or be deleted with PHP. I thought this must be a server setup related issue, so I write it here.   • Why are my DNS Lookups so long (300+ms) when accessing my web site?

    I'm running a Fedora 11 server with Apache 2. I'm trying to optimize so things are as fast as possible from the server side, and I'm noticing (via Firebug for Firefox) that upon loading the homepage of one of the sites on the web server that for every file it loads (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, GIF, PNG, JPG, etc.), it does a DNS lookup. All of the files it is looking up are local to the server, so I'm surprised to see it even do a DNS lookup. Also, each of these lookups is in the 150-450ms range, which is way too high for my liking. I've tried adjusting /etc/resolve.conf to use Google's Public DNS servers. I restarted the network service and tapped the page again, but the numbers didn't go down. I've reverted back to the default DNS servers since I didn't see any gain. Any ideas on what is causing it to: a) do the dns lookup in the first place, and b) take so long when doing the actual lookup? Thanks in advance.

    Till now, I've been the sole and proud owner of an iMac. I've always logged in as an administrator and I've also installed a bunch of software following the standard procedure of dragging and dropping it into the Applications folder. This is about to change, as sharing it with a friend makes a lot of sense now that I only have time to use the computer in the mornings, and she can only use it at nights. I thought this was going to be really easy: Just create a user account for her and that's all, I thought. Unfortunately, this is not the case. When she logins into the computer using her username and password, she has access to the same applications I've installed. Even the same applications that I setup to automatically start when I login start for her when she does. How can I setup a user that has only access to the applications that she has installed, but none of the ones installed by other users? Many thanks

    I want to make an SSH connection to another server with forwarding, but without having to log on to the remote server, nor interfere with the screen I am working on. I also need to access the connection to terminate it when I finish with it. eg. say I want to do a mysql backup on a remote server so I use the command ssh user@remote -L 1234:localhost:3306 but after issuing the password I want to run the mysql command in the session, but be able to access the SSH connection when I finish with mysql and terminate it. Is there some way this can be done?

  • Why can't I 'justify' text that I have copied from PDF into MS Word?

    I find it really annoying that when I copy text that looks good in Adobe Reader into Word, the sentences which are left-aligned by default won't change accordingly when I press 'Justify'. The only way I could get the result I need is to press back-spaces and Delete key to align the right border. Why is this? Here's an example from the Word document. The text is right- and center-aligning perfectly but Justify does not seem to work.

  • ms excel 2010 in windows xp - when open workbook the data is formatted differently than when i saved it

    I haven't been able to find an answer to this. I have multiple files that I use regularly in excel that now have cell formats of "date". Every single cell in the entire workbook (all sheets) is now formatted as "date". The problem is that I lost my formatting for percents, numbers years, etc and now everything is converted to date (xx/xx/xxxx). I am able to open previously saved versions of a file (prior to me having the problem) and the cells are formatted as I intend them to be (percents, numbers, general, as well as dates). Since this has happened on a couple different files recently, I am wondering how this is happening and how do I prevent it from happening in the future. I cannot cure the problem just by highlighting the entire sheet and converting back to general because I lose all my percents and number formatting.   • How can I enable true anonymous/everyone access to a Window share?

    I recently discovered that turning off "password protected sharing" in Windows 7 requires having the guest account enabled, named as such, and with a blank password. While Windows seems to automatically attempt to use guest when connecting, Ubuntu does not, requiring anyone trying to access my share to know to use guest and a blank password. I really don't want to have the guest account enabled, either. So is there a way to allow true anonymous access to a Windows share that doesn't require credentials? Or a way to allow any credentials at all?

  • In windows 7, how do I disable "Ease of Access" pop ups on the logon screen as I am typing my password?

    So the question is pretty much in the title. Things to note: 'Use On-Screen Keyboard' is un-checked I have disabled Ease of Access by replacing utilman.exe But my problem now is that when I'm typing my password, It'll stop all together on the 'u' or the 'p' character and I have to click on the ease of access button then move focus back to the password to continue. Yes, one obvious solution is to not use a password that has 'u' or 'p' in it (which I've done), but that's obviously not a completely satisfying answer. Thanks! I feel a tumbleweed badge...
