  I'm looking for the best AutoCAD 2010 alternative for Ubuntu. Wine's support for the 2010 version isn't polished so I'm looking for Linux based similar programs. I know that this can be subjective so I'd like to know what's the best Ubuntu alternative which has the most similar, and significant features as that of AutoCAD 2010? I'm not familiar with the program because I'm researching this for my sister who is studying Aeronautical Engineering. Any help is appreciated. I'm using 12.04 64-bit on my ThinkPad R61i with 3.8GB memory and 160GB hard drive.

• Devoxx Coming Up!

   Devoxx, the biggest Java conference in Europe, is  only a couple of days away. From November 12th to  16th, over 3,400 developers from all over Europe  are descending on Antwerp, Belgium for a week  focused on Java.  At the Oracle booth, Java experts will be available  to answer your  questions and demo the new  features of the Java Platform, including Java  Embedded,  JavaFX, JavaSE and Java EE.  Beer bash at the booth Tuesday from 17:30-19:30 and Wednesday/Thursday from 18:00 to 20:00. • Real World ADF - another new ADF book hits the stands

  I'm pleased to report that yet another Oracle ADF book hits the bookstores this month.  One of my fellow Product Managers, Jobinesh, has written Oracle ADF Real World Developer's Guide.   I'm currently awaiting a copy for review and can't wait to get into this book.  Jobinesh is an incredibly smart and switched-on technical ADF guru and I'm convinced I'm going to learn a whole lot of tips and techniques from this book. Once I get my hands on a copy I'll be writing up a full review. As someone who has written an Oracle ADF book already, I know the effort that goes into something like that, so well done Jobinesh.

  Quick shoutout for the Fusion Applications (Cloud Applications to you) Developer Relations blog post about translating Fusion apps customizations using composers and other tools and utilities provided by Oracle. Great to see Fusion help customizations included in the post, as well as software, and it also includes a nice heads up on what's coming to enable customers to make changes to text themselves in Release 8 of Oracle's Cloud Applications. I am proud to say that I logged the enhancements for what's coming in Release 8  to come to life and also wrote a spec for its requirements based on the customer research done internationally through the Oracle Usability Advisory Board). Remember,  copywriting is design and translated versions means reflecting local UX requirements too! Nice post guys!

• Best practice, or generally best way to set up web-hosting server, permissions, etc. [closed]

  Hi, I'm about to set up a server upon which a friend and I will be hosting web sites, and I'll be using Debian. I've set up a LAMP solution many times just to using for local testing purposes, but never for actual production use. I was wondering what are the best practices are in terms of setting the server up, in reference specifically to accessing the web root directory. A couple of the options I have seen: Set up a single user account on the server for us both to use and use a virtual host to point to the somewhere in the home directory, e.g. /home/webdev/www. Set each of us up a user account, and grant permissions in some way to /var/www (What would be the best way? Set up a new group?) I want to get this right when I first set this up as there won't be any going back for a while once our first site is up and running. Appreciate any guidance in advance.

Just to muddy the water further I have routines for remotely calling the DBAMessages table through a remote server to send out email from a central server!! • SPARC T5-4 Engineering Simulation Solution

  A recent Oracle internal performance evaluation for computer-based product design demonstrated that Oracle's SPARC T5-4 server running MSC's SimManager simulation software with Oracle Database 12c consolidates the work of multiple x86 servers while delivering better overall performance.   Engineering simulation solutions have taken the center stage in helping companies design and develop innovative products while reducing physical prototyping costs, and exploring a larger design space, resulting in more design possibilities. For this solution, a single SPARC T5-4 server running Oracle Solaris 11 was deployed to consolidate the MSC SimManager server, the Oracle Database 12c server, and the web application server onto a single platform. • Is it appropriate to try to control the order of finalization?

  I'm writing a class which is roughly analogous to a CancellationToken, except it has a third state for "never going to be cancelled". At the moment I'm trying to decide what to do if the 'source' of the token is garbage collected without ever being set. It seems that, intuitively, the source should transition the associated token to the 'never cancelled' state when it is about to be collected. However, this could trigger callbacks who were only kept alive by their linkage from the token. That means what those callbacks reference might now in the process of finalization. Calling them would be bad. In order to "fix" this, I wrote this class: public sealed class GCRoot { private static readonly GCRoot MainRoot = new GCRoot(); private GCRoot _next; private GCRoot _prev; private object _value; private GCRoot() { this._next = this._prev = this; } private GCRoot(GCRoot prev, object value) { this._value = value; this._prev = prev; this._next = prev._next; _prev._next = this; _next._prev = this; } public static GCRoot Root(object value) { return new GCRoot(MainRoot, value); } public void Unroot() { lock (MainRoot) { _next._prev = _prev; _prev._next = _next; this._next = this._prev = this; } } } intending to use it like this: Source() { ... _root = GCRoot.Root(callbacks); } void TransitionToNeverCancelled() { _root.Unlink(); ... } ~Source() { TransitionToNeverCancelled(); } but now I'm troubled. This seems to open the possibility for memory leaks, without actually fixing all cases of sources in limbo. Like, if a source is closed over in one of its own callbacks, then it is rooted by the callback root and so can never be collected. Presumably I should just let my sources be collected without a peep. Or maybe not? Is it ever appropriate to try to control the order of finalization, or is it a giant warning sign?
