• Android app after update: crashes on Motorola Cliq with weird stacktrace

  So after updating my app on the market I am getting reports from motorola cliq-users that my app crashes on start. The stacktrace is below, and is not very helpful since it does not go trough my app! Unfortunately I have no access to a motorola cliq-phone by myself, and I have changed too many things in this update to know what is causing the trouble. • How do I simulate the usage of a sequence of web pages?

  I have a simple sequence of web pages written in ASP.Net 3.5 SP1. Page1 - A Logon Form.... txtUsername, txtPassword and cmdLogon Page2 - A Menu (created using DevExpress ASP.Net controls) Page3 - The page redirected to by the server in the event that the user picks the right menu option in Page2 I would like to create a threaded program to simulate many users trying to use this sequence of pages. I have managed to create a host Winforms app which Launches a new thread for each "User" I have further managed to work out the basics of WebRequest enough to perform a request which retrieves the Logon page itself. I have a hunch this requires me to add the right sort of "PostData" to the request. before submitting. However I'm also concerned that "ViewState" may be an issue. Am I correct regarding the PostData? How do I add the postData to the request? Do I need to be concerned about Viewstate? Update: While I appreciate that Selenium or similar products are useful for acceptance testing , I find that they are rather clumsy for what amounts to load testing. I would prefer not to load 100 instances of Firefox or IE in order to simulate 100 users hitting my site. This was the reason I was hoping to take the ASPNet HttpWebRequest route.

• TransactionScope Prematurely Completed

  I have a block of code that runs within a TransactionScope and within this block of code I make several calls to the DB. Selects, Updates, Creates, and Deletes, the whole gamut. When I execute my delete I execute it using an extension method of the SqlCommand that will automatically resubmit the query if it deadlocks as this query could potentially hit a deadlock. I believe the problem occurs when a deadlock is hit and the function tries to resubmit the query. This is the error I receive: The transaction associated with the current connection has completed but has not been disposed. The transaction must be disposed before the connection can be used to execute SQL statements. • How to poll a file in /sys

  Hi, I am stuck reading a file in /sys/ which contains the light intensity in Lux of the ambient light sensor on my Nokia N900 phone. See thread on talk.maemo.org here I tried to use pyinotify to poll the file but this looks some kind of wrong to me since the file is alway "process_IN_OPEN", "process_IN_ACCESS" and "process_IN_CLOSE_NOWRITE" I basically want to get the changes ASAP and if something changed trigger an event, execute a class... • Performance degrades for more than 2 threads on Xeon X5355

  Hi All, I am writing an application using boost threads and using boost barriers to synchronize the threads. I have two machines to test the application. Machine 1 is a core2 duo (T8300) cpu machine (windows XP professional - 4GB RAM) where I am getting following performance figures : Number of threads :1 , TPS :21 Number of threads :2 , TPS :35 (66 % improvement) further increase in number of threads decreases the TPS but that is understandable as the machine has only two cores. Machine 2 is a 2 quad core ( Xeon X5355) cpu machine (windows 2003 server with 4GB RAM) and has 8 effective cores. Number of threads :1 , TPS :21 Number of threads :2 , TPS :27 (28 % improvement) Number of threads :4 , TPS :25 Number of threads :8 , TPS :24 As you can see, performance is degrading after 2 threads (though it has 8 cores). If the program has some bottle neck , then for 2 thread also it should have degraded. Any idea? , Explanations ? , Does the OS has some role in performance ? - It seems like the Core2duo (2.4GHz) scales better than Xeon X5355 (2.66GHz) though it has better clock speed.   Trying to tail / parse some log files. Entries start with a date then can span many lines. This works, but does not ever see new entries to file.   Hello, I am writing a simple console application which will allow me to create a number of threads from a set of parameters passed through the arguments I provide. DWORD WINAPI ThreadFunc(LPVOID threadData) { } I am packing them into a struct and passing them as a parameter into the CreateThread method and trying to unpack them by casting them to the same type as my struct from the LPVOID. I'm not sure how to cast it to the struct after getting it through so I can use it in the method itself, i've tried various combinations (Example attatched) but it won't compile.   Hello, Want To Improvide Performace Of C#.Net Applicaiton.. In My Application I am using Third Party Interop/Dll To Process .doc Files. It's a Simple Operation, Which Pass Input/Output FilePath to Interop dll ...& dll will execute text form input file. To Improve Performace I have Tried, Execute 2 therad to process 32 files.(each Thread process 16 files) Execute application code by creating 2 new AppDomains(each AppDomain Code process 16 files) Execute Code Using TPL(Task Parellel Library) But all options take around same time (32 sec) to process 32 files.Manually process tooks same 32 sec to process 32 files. Just tried one thing ..when i have created sample exe to process 16 files as input & output for refrence PAth given in TextBox. ..I open 2 exe instance to process. 1 exe has differnt 16 input files & output Created with input file path 2 exe has differnt 16 input files & output Created with input file path When i click on start button of both exe ..it use 100% cpu & Utilize both core significantly & Process Completed within 16 sec for 32 files. Can we provide this kind of explicit prallism to Improve my applicaiton Peformace? Thanks.

It tells me that "test1.tx" does not exist even though the file exists and its size is 498 bytes. If I try with Ftp.ListDirectory it tells me that the file does not exist. If I try with Ftp.GetFileSize it does not provide any results and the debugger's immediate gives me the following message: A first chance exception of type 'System.Net.WebException' occurred in System.dll. Using "request.UseBinary = true" does not make any difference.   I've done quite a bit a research on this with no luck, but all the answers have a tendency to point toward the session context settings in the config file. What is odd is that I get a session connection the very first time I hit the page (and therefore, a successful result set), but then when I reload I get the following exception: org.hibernate.SessionException: Session is closed! • C# Multithreaded Domain Design

  Let's say i have a Domain Model that im trying to make compatible with multithreading. The prototype domain is a game domain that consists of Space, SpaceObject, and Location objects. A SpaceObject has the Move method and Asteroid and Ship extend this object with specific properties for the object (Ship has a name and Asteroid has a color) Let's say i want to make the Move method for each object run in a seperate thread. That would be stupid because with 10000 objects, i would have 10000 threads. What would be the best way to seperate the workload between cores/threads? I'm trying to learn the basics of concurrency, and building a small game to prototype a lot of concepts. What i've already done, is build a domain, and a threading model with a timer that launches events based on intervals. If the event occurs i want to update my entire model with the new locations of any SpaceObject. But i don't know how and when to launch new threads with workloads when the event occurs. Some people at work told me that u can't update your core domain multithreaded, because you have to synch everything. But in that case i can't run my game on a dual quadcore server, because it would only use 1 CPU for the hardest tasks. Anyone know what to do here?

• Help with java executors: wait for task termination.

  I need to submit a number of task and then wait for them until all results are available. Each of them adds a String to a Vector (that is synchronized by default). Then I need to start a new task for each result in the Vector but I need to do this only when all the previous tasks have stopped doing their job. I want to use Java Executor, in particular I tried using Executors.newFixedThreadPool(100) in order to use a fixed number of thread (I have a variable number of task that can be 10 or 500) but I'm new with executors and I don't know how to wait for task termination. This is something like a pseudocode of what my program needs to do: EecutorService e = Executors.newFixedThreadPool(100); while(true){ /*do something*/ for(...){ <start task> } <wait for all task termination> for each String in result{ <start task> } <wait for all task termination> } I can't do a e.shutdown because I'm in a while(true) and I need to reuse the executorService...   I am new to java(a real novice). I installed Java 1.7.0 in the following folder C:\Program Files\Java The environment variable which I set are CLASSPATH : C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0\jre\lib\rt.jar; Path : C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7.0\bin; JAVA_HOME : C:\Program Files\Java; I have presented here the class names which are in my system. Next I wrote a program(HelloWorld.java) import java.io.*; class HelloWorld { public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println("Hello World!"); } } When I am compiling using javac HelloWorld.java it is compiling fine.   I am facing the following problem in a CUDA kernel. There is an array "cu_fx" in global memory. Each thread has a unique identifier jj and a local loop variable ii and a local float variable temp. Following code is not working. It is not at all changing cu_fx[jj]. At the end of loop cu_fx[jj] remains 0. ii = 0; cu_fx[jj] = 0; while(ii < l) { if(cu_y[ii] > 0) cu_fx[jj] += (cu_mu[ii]*cu_Kernel[(jj-start_row)*Kernel_w + ii]); else cu_fx[jj] -= (cu_mu[ii]*cu_Kernel[(jj-start_row)*Kernel_w + ii]); ii++; } But when I rewrite it using a temporary variable temp, it works fine. ii = 0; temp = 0; while(ii < l) { if(cu_y[ii] > 0) temp += (cu_mu[ii]*cu_Kernel[(jj-start_row)*Kernel_w + ii]); else temp -= (cu_mu[ii]*cu_Kernel[(jj-start_row)*Kernel_w + ii]); ii++; } cu_fx[jj] = temp; Can somebody please help with this problem. • Objective-C NSDate memory issue (again)

  I'm developing a graphing application and am attempting to change the renderer from OpenGL to Quartz2D to make text rendering easier. A retained NSDate object that was working fine before suddenly seems to be deallocating itself, causing a crash when an NSMutableString attempts to append it's decription (now 'nil'). Build & analyse doesn't report any potential problems. Simplified, the code looks like this: NSDate* aDate -(id)init { aDate = [[NSDate date] retain] return self; } -(void)drawRect(CGRect)rect { NSMutableString* stringy = [[NSMutableString alloc] init]; //aDate is now deallocated and pointing at 0x0? [stringy appendString:[aDate description]]; //Crash } I should stress that the actual code is a lot more complicated than that, with a seperate thread also accessing the date object, however suitable locks are in place and when stepping through the code [aDate release] is not being called anywhere. Using [[NSDate alloc] init] bears the same effect. I should also add that init IS the first function to be called. Can anyone suggest something I may have overlooked, or why the NSDate object is (or appears to be) releasing itself?

• How to get height for NSAttributedString at a fixed width

  I want to do some drawing of NSAttributedStrings in fixed-width boxes, but am having trouble calculating the right height they'll take up when drawn. So far, I've tried: Calling - (NSSize) size, but the results are useless (for this purpose), as they'll give whatever width the string desires. Calling - (void)drawWithRect:(NSRect)rect options:(NSStringDrawingOptions)options with a rect shaped to the width I want and NSStringDrawingUsesLineFragmentOrigin in the options, exactly as I'm using in my drawing. The results are ... difficult to understand; certainly not what I'm looking for. (As is pointed out in a number of places, including this Cocoa-Dev thread). Creating a temporary NSTextView and doing: [[tmpView textStorage] setAttributedString:aString]; [tmpView setHorizontallyResizable:NO]; [tmpView sizeToFit]; When I query the frame of tmpView, the width is still as desired, and the height is often correct ... until I get to longer strings, when it's often half the size that's required. (There doesn't seem to be a max size being hit: one frame will be 273.0 high (about 300 too short), the other will be 478.0 (only 60-ish too short)). I'd appreciate any pointers, if anyone else has managed this.

  I am developing a Java Desktop Application. This app executes the same task public class MyTask implements Callable<MyObject> { in multiple thread simultaneously. Now, when a user clicks on a "start" button, I have created a SwingWorker myWorker and have executed it. Now, this myWorker creates multiple instances of MyTask and submits them to an ExecutorService. Each MyTask instance has a loop and generates an intermediate result at every iteration. Now, I want to collect these intermediate results from each MyTask instances as soon as they are generated. Then after collecting these intermediate results from every MyTask instance, I want to publish it through SwingWorker.publish(MyObject) so that the progress is shown on the EDT. Q1. How can I implement this? Should I make MyTask subclass of SwingWorker instead of Callable to get intermediate results also, because I think that Callable only returns final result. Q2. If the answer of Q1. is yes, then can you give me a small example to show how can I get those intermediate results and aggregate them and then publish them from main SwingWorker? Q3. If I can't use SwingWorker in this situation, then how can I implement this?

  Hi, I am using Eclipse with the Drools plugin to create rules. I want to create business rules and main aim is to try and provide the user a set of options which he can use to create rules. For eg:If an Apple can have only 3 colors: I want to provide an option like a drop down so that the user can know before hand which are the options he can use in his rules. Is it possible? I am creating a dsl but unable to still provide the above functionality for a business rule. I am having an error implementing a basic dsl also.
