• Rails 3 render :partials

  Hi guys. I am migrating my 1.8.7 rails app to rails 3. But I have a problem with a partial: I have the following partial: in my cms controller : @clients = Client.all group = render_to_string :layout = 'layouts/window', :partial = 'clients/index' in my "clients/index" partial: <%= render :partial = 'clients/item', :collection = @clients % This worked great with rails 1.7.8 but with rails 3 only the partial in the index get's rendered!. So, to clarify this, the group variable in the controller doesn't get the html from the layout. Also the weird thing is that the window layout is _window.erb (if I do window.html.erb or just window.erb rails can't find it which is strange). Does anybody know if this behavior is normal for rails 3? thanxs!

• d3 tree - parents having same children

  I've been transitioning my code from JIT to D3, and working with the tree layout. I've replicated http://mbostock.github.com/d3/talk/20111018/tree.html with my tree data, but I wanted to do a little more. In my case I will need to create child nodes that merge back to form a parent at a lower level, which I realize is more of a directed graph structure, but would like the tree to accomodate (i.e. notice that common id's between child nodes should merge). So basically a tree that divides like normal on the way from parents to children, but then also has the ability to bring those children nodes together to be parents (sort of an incestual relationship or something :)). Asks something similar - How to layout a non-tree hierarchy with D3 It sounds like I might be able to use hierarchical edge bundling in conjunction with the tree hierarchy layout, but I haven't seen that done. I might be a little off with that though.

• PyQt signal between QObjects

  I'm trying to make a view and controller in PyQt where the view is emitting a custom signal when a button is clicked, and the controller has one of its methods connected to the emitted signal. It does not work, however. The respond method is not called when I click the button. • JSON is not nested in rails view

  I have a several models in a heirarchy, 1:many at each level. Each class is associated only with the class above it and the one below it, ie: L1 course, L2 unit, L3 unit layout, L4 layout fields, L5 table fields (not in code, but a sibling of layout fields) I am trying to build a JSON response of the entire hierarchy. def show @course = Course.find(params[:id]) respond_to do |format| format.html # show.html.erb format.json do @course = Course.find(params[:id]) @units = @course.units.all @unit_layouts = UnitLayout.where(:unit_id => @units) @layout_fields = LayoutField.where(:unit_layout_id => @unit_layouts) response = {:course => @course, :units => @units, :unit_layouts => @unit_layouts, :layout_fields => @layout_fields} respond_to do |format| format.json {render :json => response } end end end end The code is bring back the correct values, but the units, unit_layouts and layout_fields are all nested at the same level under course. I would like them to be nested inside their parent.

• Multiple svn projects into one git repository?

  Hi, I have started to use git-svn for some of my work to be able to do local commits. This works great for projects that use standard svn layout. Recently I started working on a Java project that is split into multiple connected modules (20-25), and each module have its own root folder in the same svn repo with its own trunk/branches/tags. svnrepo/ module-1 trunk branches tags module-N trunk branches tags I have cloned each and every module with git svn clone -s /path/to/svnrepo/module[1-N]. The "problem" is that when I want to do git svn rebase on all modules i have to do it N times. I have tried to do git svn clone /path/to/svnrepo/ do avoid doing the rebase operation N times, but that leaves me with a directory layout that is the same as in the svn repo. Is there a way that I can track all the trunks of all modules in one git repo? So that I get a directory layout like this within my git repository: module-1 module-2 module-N

• ExtJS panel does not render properly unless I open Firebug - WTF?

  I have the following ExtJS Panel embedded in another Panel, which then resides in a TabPanel and the TabPanel is in a FormPanel. With that being said, these start/end date fields are initially displayed in very small cells -- the cells are so small that I see horizontal scroll bars. Now here's the weird part: if I open Firebug, everything pops into place. Does anyone know what's going on? • Android TranslateAnimation resets after animation

  I'm creating something like a SlideDrawer but with most customization, basically the thing is working but the animation is flickering at the end. To further explain, I got an TranslateAnimation then after this animation it returns back to the original position, if i set setFillAfter then the buttons inside the layout stops working. If i listen to onAnimationEnd and set other's layout to View.GONE the layout fickers. Judging from it is that on animation end, the view goes back to original position before the View.GONE is called. Any advice would be awesome. Thanks

  So what I want to do is, in my main layout, have a menu for logged in users, and a different for anon users. THe layout will be used on every page, so I'm not sure how to do this, as I've seen, the Auth Component can only be used in the controller, this would be nice if I had to do this in only one view, but for every view, how can I do this?   I just finished the "15 min Blog Post tutorial" included in the documentation for cakephp. I was asked for another tutorial to change the layout for first tutorial. However, I am fairly new to MVC programming/Cakephp and I have no real clue how to do so. Well, I know I need "default.ctp" placed in app/views/layouts/ and I presume I need to include to include my data? . . . I am really at a loss of what to do. I set up my default.ctp as I mentioned above, but when I go to localhost:9999/posts the layout is still the same. I guess I need to include a stylesheet (and if so, where?) I guess if someone can point me in the right direction to a beginner's guide to layout styling or how to use it I would greatly appreciate any help.

  I have two panels: main_panel child_panel The main_panel layout is set using: main_panel.setLayout(flowlayout) I then added child_panel to main_panel: main_panel.add(child_panel) The child_panel gets added to main_panel but its position is at the cross-section of horizontal midpoint and top vertical section of screen. I want child_panel to be at the top left corner, something I could have done by using child_panel.setlocation(a,b) method, if I have set the layout of main_panel as null. I have used FlowLayout here because I want components in the JPanel to keep adjusting with the size of JFrame. So can I add child_panel to main_panel at the exact location I want, even if I set the Layout of main_panel as not null?

  Hello! Could anyone help me make normal layout in GWT. I need a main panel which: fills all the browser space (100% height); if being collapsed too much shows scroll bars (autoscroll). When I use old layout (RootPanel, VerticalPanel) I have scroll, but can't get 100% height. When I use new layout (RootLayoutPanel, DockLayoutPanel) I get 100% height, but I don't get any scroll. And also I have some troubles in IE. Is there any sample showing how to achieve both goals? Thanks in advance!

• Loosely coupled .NET Cache Provider using Dependency Injection

  I have recently been reading the excellent book “Dependency Injection in .NET”, written by Mark Seemann. I do not generally buy software development related books, as I never seem to have the time to read them, but I have found the time to read Mark’s book, and it was time well spent I think. Reading the ideas around Dependency Injection made me realise that the Cache Provider code I wrote about earlier (see http://geekswithblogs.net/Rhames/archive/2011/01/10/using-the-asp.net-cache-to-cache-data-in-a-model.aspx) could be refactored to use Dependency Injection, which should produce cleaner code. The goals are to: Separate the cache provider implementation (using the ASP.NET data cache) from the consumers (loose coupling). This will also mean that the dependency on System.Web for the cache provider does not ripple down into the layers where it is being consumed (such as the domain layer). Provide a decorator pattern to allow a consumer of the cache provider to be implemented separately from the base consumer (i.e. if we have a base repository, we can decorate this with a caching version). Although I used the term repository, in reality the cache consumer could be just about anything. Use constructor injection to provide the Dependency Injection, with a suitable DI container (I use Castle Windsor). The key thing is that the domain or data access layers do not need system.web references adding to them. It also means that my controllers do not have any knowledge of the caching taking place, as the DI container will simply inject the decorator instead of the root implementation of the repository. The first step is to implement a BlogRepository decorator, with the caching logic in it. Note that this can reside in the domain layer, as it does not require any knowledge of the data access methods. This will make the cache provider functionality available to the repository. I inject the parent IBlogRepository implementation (which has the actual data access code), via the constructor. This will allow the methods implemented in the parent to be called if nothing is found in the cache. I override each of the methods implemented in the repository, including those implemented in the generic BaseRepository. Each override of these methods follows the same pattern. It makes a call to the CacheProvider.Fetch method, and passes in the parentBlogRepository implementation of the method as the retrieval method, to be used if nothing is present in the cache. Configuring the Caching Repository in the DI Container The final piece of the jigsaw is to tell Castle Windsor to use the BlogRepositoryWithCaching implementation of IBlogRepository, but to inject the actual Data Access implementation into this decorator.   I have a WD MBWE II (White Strip Light) 2TB - (WD20000H2NC-00) Was working fine until a few days ago. I guess there was a power failure and after that I am unable to access the 'Public' or the 'Download' folder anymore. I have been searching for answers everywhere but came up empty handed. Web GUI still works, SSH works. I hooked up both the drives on my PC and UFS Explorer sees the drive. But so far I am unable to retrieve any of my data. I do not remember what RAID setting I used when I first got the drive. I can see from GUI that it is set as "Stripe". The drive contains 10 years of family pictures which I really do not want to loose. Sadly and stupidly, I didn't even keep a backup of this drive. Can somebody please help or point me in the right direction. Thank you in advance for your help. Disk Utility on Ubuntu reports 1405 bad sectors on one drive. How can I retrieve my data? Please help. • HP Recovery options: System Recovery not showing

  I am using HP Pavilion dv4 notebook. Previously, there were following options in Recovery Manager(using f11 during boot): +System Recovery +Factory Restore +Minimized Image Recovery The System Recovery option allows me to restore only Operating system drive e.g. C:\ drive, keeping all other user (me) created hard drives intact. I made a set of recovery disk. Since then I don't see the System Recovery option in HP Recovery Manager. But all other options are still there. But when I use recovery disks that i created earlier, that option e.g. System Recovery is shown. But It's really boring and time consuming to use disks for recovery. So, what's the problem with internal HP Recovery Manager? Why isn't it showing that option?

• Can an installation of SSRS be used for other reports if the SCOM Reporting Role is installed?

  I'm currently in the process of planing a SCOM 2007 R2 deployment and would like to deploy the OperationsManagerDW and Reporting Server to a shared SQL 2008 cluster which is used for reporting across multiple solutions. However in the in the deployment guide for SCOM 2007 R2 it says: Due to changes that the Operations Manager 2007 Reporting component makes to SQL Server Reporting Services security, no other applications that make use of SQL Server Reporting Services can be installed on this server. Which concerns me that it may interfere with existing or future (non SCOM) reports in some way even if deployed as a separate SSRS instance. Later in the same guide it states: Installing Operations Manager 2007 Reporting Services integrates the security of the instance of SQL Reporting Services with the Operations Manager role-based security. Do not install any other Reporting Services applications in this same instance of SQL Server. Does this mean that I can install a new SSRS instance and use this on the shared cluster for SCOM reporting or that I'd also need to create a whole new SQL Server instance as well as SSRS instance or I'd need a whole separate server for SCOM OperationsManagerDW and Reporitng Server?

• Remove Downed Exchange Server from First Administrative Group

  I had a server die. It is gone forever. It is still listed in the servers folder of the first administrative group in the Exchange System Manager. When I click "all tasks Remove Server" I get the following error: The Server "SERVERNAME" cannot be removed because: -One or more users currently use a mailbox on this server. These users must be moved to a mailbox store on a different server or be mail disabled before uninstalling this server. Facility: Exchange System Manager ID no: c103f492 Exchange System Manager Any help would be MUCH appreciated. I cannot access the mailbox stores anymore and I do not care about the lost mailboxes. We deleted the inactive and old users as well. So I am stumped on this one. I just need to remove the old machine. THANKS!

  I have 2 machines where one of them contains the Hudson CI and other JBoss 7 AS. In Hudson, I have installed "Deploy Plugin", created new job and filled required JBoss manager user connection fields. When I run the job, the project successfully built however the deployment process to remote JBoss AS is not being triggered. No errors or messages about the deployment in log. What should I do? EDIT The deployment is triggered (at least expected) as "Post-build Action" with parameters: [x] Deploy war/ear to a container WAR/EAR files : **/*.war Container : JBoss 7.x Manager user name : test Manager password : * * * * JBoss URL : http://192.168.1.2 JBoss JMX Management port : 9990 It is not a separate job.

• How to run Windows 7 Explorer shell with Administrator Privileges by default

  The Windows 7 shell (Explorer) can be made to run with Administrator privileges by this manual process: Kill Explorer shell by holding down Shift+Ctrl, right-clicking the Shut down button in the Start Menu, and selecting Exit Explorer Start Task Manager with Ctrl+Shift+Esc Elevate Task Manager privileges by going to Processes tab and selecting Show processes from all users Then start up a new instance of the shell by File | Run in Task Manager, typing in explorer, and selecting the Create this task with administrative privileges. After following the above process, the Windows shell will be running with administrative privileges, and any programs it launches will also have administrative privileges. This makes performing tasks that require the privilege far easier, particularly for command-line applications, which usually fail silently or with an Access denied. message rather than giving an opportunity to use UAC to elevate the process's privileges. What I'm interested in, though, is creating an account which uses a privileged shell by default, rather than having to follow this laborious process every time. How can it be done?

• Using windowmaker with quartz-wm in proxy mode on Snow Leopard

  I can modify my .xinitrc file to exec /opt/local/bin/wmaker, and get WindowMaker 0.90.2 as my window manager in X11.app. I'd like to use quartz-wm not as a window manager, but to provide the pasteboard integration with Aqua using the --only-proxy flag (see the man page). If I add the following line to .xinitrc: exec /usr/bin/quartz-wm --only-proxy & then WindowMaker never starts, complaining that there's already a window manager running. Is it possible to get the two to play nicely together, or is proxy feature part of the Xquartz server now? It seems that the Xquartz manpage has a number of pasteboard-to-clipboard synchronisation settings, but it's not clear whether quartz-wm needs to be running for those to work.
