• Do you use Python mostly for its functional or object-oriented features?

  I see what seems like a majority of Python developers on StackOverflow endorsing the use of concise functional tools like lambdas, maps, filters, etc., while others say their code is clearer and more maintainable by not using them. What is your preference? Also, if you are a die-hard functional programmer or hardcore into OO, what other specific programming practices do you use that you think are best for your style?   hi, i have a date in this format : dd.mm.yyyy when i instantiate a javascript date with it, it gives me a NaN in c# i can specify a dateformat, to say: here you have my string, it's in this format, please make a Datetime of it. is this possible in javascript too, and if not, is there an easy way? i would prefer not to use a substring for day, substring for month etc. because my method must also be capable of german, italian, english etc dates.

  I'm trying to produce some Ruby code that will take a string and return a new one, with a number x number of characters removed from its end - these can be actual letters, numbers, spaces etc. Ex: given the following string a_string = "a1wer4zx" I need a simple way to get the same string, minus - say - the 3 last digits. In the case above, that would be "a1wer". The way I'm doing it right now seems very convoluted: an_array = a_string.split(//,(a_string.length-2)) an_array.pop new_string = an_array.join Any ideas?

  Basic question, sorry. Basically, I have a script that creates a MySQL entry each time someone visits the page. A logging script. However, I want to make it autoprune after, say, 100 visits. For example in pseudo code: if amount of rows > 100 { delete rows 1+ until amount of rows == 100 } So in a nutshell, each time a new row is added after 100, it needs to automatically remove the row with the smallest id (My primary key).
