• Is there a different between boost iostream mapped file and boost interprocess mapped file?

  hey guys, want to create a mapped binary file into memory, however I not sure how to create the file to mapped into the system. I read documentation several times and realize there is 2 mapped file, one in iostream and the other in interprocess. Do you guys have any idea on how to create a mapped file into shared memory. I trying to allow multi thread program to read an array of large double written in a binary file format. Also what is the different between the mapped file in iostream and interprocess?

  I have a Windows 2008 R2 server running on a VM machine. My .NET service is running on this server periodically querying WMI, for example: SELECT ProcessId FROM Win32_Service WHERE ... After a day or two WMIprvse takes up to 500M memory and WMI queries start getting out of memory exceptions. I have been investigating the feasibility of developing an iPhone application that could print to a Bluetooth-enabled printer. I've gone through the most of the postings in this thread and was confused by the mail exchanges. As per my analysis: Gamekit - can be used for bluetooth connectivity between iPhones and IPods ONLY Bonjour - can be used for wi-fi connectivity between iPhones/IPods and bonjour-enabled printer We can use an external accessory to connect to a third party Bluetooth-enabled printer provided the 3rd-party printer complies with the necessary regulations from Apple (registering for either “Made for iPod”/ “Works with iPhone”, and also customizing their printer with specific hardware/software, etc.) Could someone please share their experiences?

  I'm having a lot of difficulty getting strophe's 'attach()' function working. I am working on a social network where users will be surfing pages and at the same time keep their chat connection on.   I am having some issues with accessing files using JWS (Java Web Start). The program adds a new label and image. The program runs fine on my local computer but gives me pages of errors when I run the program on my remote server using JWS. Here's a sample of the error: Exception in thread "AWT-EventQueue-0" java.security.AccessControlException: access denied (java.io.FilePermission add2.png read) at java.security.AccessControlContext.checkPermission(Unknown Source) at java.security.AccessController.checkPermission(Unknown Source) at java.lang.SecurityManager.checkPermission(Unknown Source) This occurs even after making sure the images have read access. Ideas?

• Problem with WPF perfomance.

  I have form which has many tabs. Every tab has many controls textboxes, comboboxes, datagrids and e .t.c. I bind form to one data source in such way this.DataContext=MyClassInstance But with this way my form opening very slow. about one minute. When I comment above code, form opens very quickly. All My controls I bound to the class properties in XAML. Please tell me the way to bind every tab when it's activated, or bind controls in background thread or any other idea which can help me to speed up my form. Thanks in advance.

• C++ Winsock non-blocking/async UDP socket

  Hi all! I'm developping a little data processor in c++ over UDP sockets, and have a thread (just one, and apart the sockets) that process the info received from them. My problem happens when i need to receive info from multiple clients in the socket at the same time. How could i do something like: Socket foo; /* init socket vars and attribs */ while (serving){ thread_processing(foo_info); } for multiple clients (many concurrent access) in c++? I'm using winsocks atm on win32, but just get standard blocking udp sockets working. No gui, it's a console app. I'll appreciate so much an example or pointer to one ;). Thanks in advance.

When we try to integrate with apache Axis 1.3, where we tried WSDL2JAVA with the WSDL.   Hello all, I have managed to get info about the currently logged in user on my webpart by using this short code; WindowsPrincipal p = Thread.CurrentPrincipal as WindowsPrincipal; string strLoggedInUser = p.Identity.Name; What I would need now, is to get info of Employeer-ID atribute from the active directory, wich I have added by following this quide over here; http://www.tech-archive.net/Archive/Windows/microsoft.public.windows.server.active_directory/2005-08/msg01766.html I have found serval of quides about how to use active directory on the webpart, but they all were very complex for me to understand. And I only wish to get info about this single attribute "Employeers-ID". Can anyone help me with this? Thanks in advance!

• Calling IPrincipal.IsInRole on Windows 7

  We use NTLM auth in our application to determine whether a user can perform certain operations. We use the IPrincipal of their current Windows login (in WinForms applications), calling IsInRole to check for specific group memberships. To check that a user is a local administrator on the machine, we use: AppDomain.CurrentDomain.SetPrincipalPolicy(PrincipalPolicy.WindowsPrincipal); ... bool allowed = Thread.CurrentPrincipal.IsInRole(@"Builtin\Administrators") This works if the current user is the Administrator user, or is another user that is a member of the Builtin\Administrators group. In our testing on Windows 7, we have found that this no longer works as expected. The Administrator user still works fine, but any other user that is a member of the Builtin\Administrators group returns false for the IsInRole call. What could be causing this difference? I have a gut feeling that a default setting has changed somewhere (possible in gpedit), but cannot find anything that looks like the culprit.

  Hi, I have a legacy 32-bit application written in Borland's C++ Builder. I need to show specific pages from within a HtmlHelp file programmatically. Until now I've been doing this via HtmlHelp.ocx, but this does not work on x64 versions of Windows Vista / Windows7 as described in this thread. I can't compile the application as 64-bit executable. Therefore the only workaround I have found so far is to create a 32-bit component implementing a COM object which loads and calls into the 32-bit DLL, and exposes the 32-bit DLL interface as a COM interface. That sounds far too complicated just to display a chml file with a specific topic. There must be something else. But what is it?

• Configuring gcc compiler switches in Qt / QtCreator / QMake

  I recently tried to use Qt Creator 1.3.2 / Qt 4.6.2 / gcc 4.4.0 (32-bit version) on Windows 7 (64-bit) to compile an application using some of the experimental C++0x extensions and encountered the following (fatal) error: This file requires compiler and library support for the upcoming ISO C++ standard, C++0x. This support is currently experimental, and must be enabled with the -std=c++0x or -std=gnu++0x compiler options. In my search for a solution, I came across this thread, and added the following to the .pro file: CXXFLAGS += -std=c++0x but that didn't seem to make a difference. So, I expect there's some tag I need to add to the .pro (project) file, but I've never messed with the gcc compiler switches in Qt / QMake / QtCreator before, and am uncertain about the proper invokation / incantation. So, my question is how do you set gcc compiler switches when using QtCreator / QMake / Qt?

• UIView drawRect; class variables out of scope

  Short & sweet version of my last question in light of new information. I have a UIVIew with an init and a drawrect method (and another thread and a bunch of other stuff, but I'll keep it short & sweet). All of the class variables that I alloc and init in the -(id)init method are out of scope/nil/0x0 in the drawRect method, and I am unable to access them. For example; In the interface: NSObject* fred; In the implementation: -(id)init { if(self == [super init]) { fred = [[NSObject alloc] init]; } return self; } -(void)drawRect:(CGRect)rect { NSLog(@"Fred is retained %i times",[fred retainCount]); //FAIL NSLog(@"But his variable is actually just pointing at uninitialised 0x0, so you're not reading this in the debugger because the application has crashed before it got here." } Should add that init IS being called before drawRect also. Anyone have any ideas?

• Asynchronous operations performance

  One of the features of asynchronous programming in .NET is saving threads during long running operation execution. The FileStream class can be setup to allow asynchronous operations, that allows running (e.g.) a copy operation without virtually using any threads. To my surprise, I found that running asynchronous stream copy performs not only slower, but also uses more processing power than synchronous stream copy equivalent. Is there any benchmark tests were done to compare a synchronous vs asynchronous operation execution (file, network, etc.)? Does it really make sense to perform an asynchronous operation instead of spanning separate thread and perform synchronous operation in server environment if the asynchronous operation is times slower than the synchronous one?

  I have a WCF service that needs to know the Principal of the calling user. My question is, how can I avoid having to wrap all proxy method calls in the using (var scope...{ [create header and add to OperationContext]? Could I create a custom ChannelFactory that will handle adding the myPrincipal header to the operation context? Something like that would save a whole load of copy/paste which I'd rather not do but I'm not sure how to achieve it:) Thanks

• Can I use swank-clojure with the clojure 1.2 master branch?

  I'm happily using swank-clojure, installed via elpa. But I'd like to do some work with deftype, defprotocol, etc., which aren't aren't available in clojure 1.1.   I have created a non-form c# program that uses the NotifyIcon class. The text "(Click to Activate)" shows up when I hover the mouse. So I am getting some events handled.   Context I am storing a java.util.List inside ehcache. Key(String) --> List<UserDetail> The ordered List contains a Top 10 ranking of my most active users. Problem Concurrent 3rd party clients might be requesting for this list. I have a requirement to be as current as possible with regards to the ranking. Thus if the ranking is changed due the activities of users, the ordered List in the cache must not be left stale for very long. Once I've recalculated a new List, I want to replace the one in cache immediately. Consider a busy scenario whereby multiple concurrent clients are requesting for the ranking; how can I replace the cache item in an fashion such that: Clients can continue to pull a possibly stale snapshot. They should never get a null value. There will only be 1 server thread that writes to the cache.

• Logging strategy vs. performance

  Hi, I'm developing a web application that has to support lots of simultaneous requests, and I'd like to keep it fast enough. I have now to implement a logging strategy, I'm gonna use log4net, but ... what and how should I log? I mean: How logging impacts in performance? is it possible/recomendable logging using async calls? Is better use a text file or a database? Is it possible to do it conditional? for example, default log to the database, and if it fails, the switch to a text file. What about multithreading? should I care about synchronization when I use log4net? or it's thread safe out of the box? In the requirements appear that the application should cache a couple of things per request, and I'm afraid of the performance impact of that. Cheers.
