• ASP.NET with VS 2008 How to Run Root "/" with Local Web Server

  I want to use the built-in web server for VS 2008 and have it run my web-site project as the top level root "/". Instructions for VS 2005 can be found at: http://weblogs.asp.net/scottgu/archive/2006/12/19/tip-trick-how-to-run-a-root-site-with-the-local-web-server-using-vs-2005-sp1.aspx My problem is with step 3 of the instructions. When the the web-site project node is selected, right click never gives me an option to select a property-grid like that shown under step 3. Nor could I find another way in the menu or tool bar to get the property-grid. I don't know if the UI difference I'm seeing has to do with me using VS 2008 and the instructions are for VS 2005 or what? How do I get the web-site property-grid for VS 2008, or is there an alternative way to get the root setup I want?

• I have VS2010 Ultimate. Shouldn't TFS Server be included?

  Dumb question I'm sure, but when I log onto my MSDN subscription account, I don't see Team Foundation Server in the list of available for download software application. I thought it was supposed to come with VS2010 Ultimate, which I could download. Is it a separate download? Could it be that my MSDN account level gives me access to VS2010 but that I am still not entitled to TFS? I'd like to install it instead of using VSS.

  I'm adding a ToolTip to a ListViewItem. However, the ToolTip only shows up when the user hovers over the first cell in the row to which the ToolTip has been applied. MyListViewItem.ToolTipText = "Important Message" The only other code I have related to ToolTips is this: MyListView.ShowItemToolTips = True Any idea how I can make the ToolTip show up on a specific cell in a row, or even the entire row? • How can I debug this web service http handler?

  Hello everyone, I am building a Httphandler following these instructions here It manipulates HTTP POST and HTTP GET. I have a client with two buttons two POST and GET. After i've tested and happy everythings working I move it from localhost to IIS. Now when I do this I get an exception in the POST handler code. How on earth can I debug this code line by line? I managed to do this awhile ago, I thought it was by attaching to process but I can't work it out. I can emulate GET just by typing address in browser, post im not sure about. I've tried telnetting and sending it from there but haven't had any luck.

• How to easily pass a very long string to a worker process under Windows?

  My native C++ Win32 program spawns a worker process and needs to pass a huge configuration string to it. Currently it just passes the string as a command line to CreateProcess(). The problem is the string is getting longer and now it doesn't fit into the 32K characters limitation imposed by Windows. Of course I could do something like complicating the worker process start - I use the RPC server in it anyway and I could introduce an RPC request for passing the configuration string, but this will require a lot of changes and make the solution not so reliable. Saving the data into a file for passing is also not very elegant - the file could be left on the filesystem and become garbage. What other simple ways are there for passing long strings to a worker process started by my program on Windows?

• how do I zoom to normal text size in vs2008?

  I can not find any help on this issue in vs2008 help, Google, or SO. Scenario: I'm looking at a source file in vs2008 SP1; Windows 2003 Server SP2 Standard Edition, 1280x1024. The irrelevant name of this file is index.aspx. What is relevant is that the file has only 65 lines of code. The print is unreadably small--less than 4 point. It uses less than a third of the vs2008 text window vertically and less that a quarter of the vs2008 text window horizontally. It's not just index.aspx; e.g. another file with 142 lines only fills about 3/4 of the vs2008 text window vertically and less that a quarter of the vs2008 text window horizontally. Possible cause: Probably, but not certainly, I found the equivalent of zoom in/zoom out such as one finds in products like Microsoft Word. However, I've explored many vs2008 toolbars and other customization options and unfortunately I can not find out how to get myself out of this mess. Window, Reset Window Layout has no effect on the text size; my tiny text size did not change. QUESTION: how do I zoom vs2008 text size in and out and back to normal size? Thank you. • Do I have to remove VS 2010 beta1 in order to get a web app to work on asp.net 2.0?

  I think the title is enough :). I have VS 2010 beta1 installed, and I wish to run an asp.net mvc application on my local IIS. The problem is, the asp.net 4.0 runtime is selected by default for all the web sites, when I try to change it to asp.net 2.0, I get the following error message: I click yes, then ok, and when I get back to the ASP.NET tab of my site's properties, I see the 4.0 version is selected back again! Do I have to remove VS 2010 in order to get this to work? (hopefully not) Ps: I'm using windows XP and IIS 5.1

  Hi there, my problem occurs during compiling Irrlicht3D Engine in VS 2008. 1Error 1256: integer overflow in internal computation due to size or complexity of "irr::IReferenceCounted" I'm currently merging a very old Softwaredriver I have written with the rest of the engine which is much newer. The main Problme is that I have tried to resolve abstract inherince problems. But now I get this error and it is the only one. "irr::IReferenceCounted" is one of the base classes used by other classes which have been inherinced from. What does that mean? I know that an integer overflow can be a normal overflow, but why is this shown during compilation? Any help appreciated! -db

  Alright so my terminology when it comes to C# isn't great, so I'll attempt to explain this with a small example. If you create a class which you are using within a PropertyGrid and you have the following values: class Test { public Point example { get; set; } } This will produce a PropertyGrid which has an expandable object "example" which has fields X and Y in order to create a "Point". I'm attempting to create an object "name" which has fields "firstname" and "lastname", so I have: class Test { public Name example { get; set; } } public struct Name { public string firstname { get; set; } public string lastname { get; set; } } This however isn't working as intended. I think I need to override some method(s) in order to get this working, however since I don't really have the terminology down for PropertyGrids it is difficult for me to find a solution. Any help would be great.

• Specify ApplicationName when using ASP.NET Web Site Administration Tool

  This tool is supposed to configure users and roles etc., but when I use it on a new web site, with a new aspnetdb database, it adds a record to the aspnet_Applications table with the ApplicationName and the LoweredApplicationName fields set to /. I think it would make more sense if it actually used the application name, i.e. the web site name. Can I safely just change the application name? Is there a better way of configuring these things?

• Limitation of Attachment size when using SMTP

  Hi, I wrote a C++ program to send a mail using SMTP. But when I attach any files I notices that a single file's size always is limited to 808 bytes. As an example if I send a text file with 10 KBs, when I download the attachment it has only text worth 808 bytes. If the large file is a zip file, it gets corrupted in unzipping obviously due to CRC failure. I used a MAPI library to send larger files without a problem. Is this a network limitation of SMTP? Can someone please explain why this is happening?? Thank You!!!

• How can I get "Copy to Output Directory" to work with Unit Tests?

  When I build a unit test project before the tests are executed the test output is copied to a TestResults folder and then the tests are executed. The issue I'm having is that not all the files in the Debug/bin directory are copied to the TestResults project. How can I get a file that is copied to the Debug/bin directory to also be copied to the TestResults folder?   Hi, I am currently building a prototype for a new system screen, and i am using c# to build this. The question i have is, i currently have 14 textboxes which are filled from a condition from a couple of other controls on the screen. these 14 textboxes all add up to a total shown in another textbox. as these textboxes are editable (in case the client wishes to increase the value) (cant go into to much detail but they will) I need to have a firable ontextchange event for when the values change so the total box updates. however i have a feeling there must be a way of not having to create 14 different events, is there a way that i can have 1 event which fires if any of the 14 text boxes are fired? thanks Alan

• MVC Entity Model not showing my table

  I have a database with multiple tables, and some basic relationships. Here is an example of the problem I am having: My Database: **Org** ID Name etc **Detail1** ID D1name **Org_Detail1** Org_ID Detail1_ID **Detail2** ID D2Name **Org_Detail2** Org_ID Detial1_ID BooleanField My problem is, the Org_detail1 table is not showing up in the entity model, but the Org_Details2 table does. I thought it may have been because the Org_Detail1 table only contains two ID fields that are both primary keys, while the Org_Details2 table contains 2 primary key ID fields as well as a boolean field. If I add a dummy field to Org_detail1 and update it, it still won't show up and wont allow me to add a new entity relating to the Org_Detail1 table. The table won't even show up in the list, but it is listed under the tables. Is there any solution to get this table to appear in my model?

I am trying to make the program able to keep track of each tunnel that is open so a user may terminate those instances that are no longer needed. I am currently using System.Diagnostics.Process.Start to run PLink (currently Putty being used). I need to determine the PID of each plink program when it is launched so a user can terminate it at will. Question is how to do that and am I using the right .Net name space or is there something better? • VS2012 - Sync project properties and ClickOnce Build number

  There is a build / version number automatically increasing with Publish for ClickOnce applications. This version number is different from the assembly version in the project properties (which in turn is automatically displayed in a generated WPF about box). Is there a way to sync the ClickOnce version number and the project number in the assembly properties? Goal is to get an automatically increasing and identical version number for both places.
