• How to authorize my app with Facebook

  I know I have seen apps that log me in using Facebook but never present me with an authorization screen. I can not, for the life of me, figure out how to do this with Windows Phone 7. The best I have been able to get is using the Facebook for C# SDK to get the authorization screen in a WebView. This looks hideous and the page does not even appear to be mobile ready. I have searched high and low for an answer and have found nothing. Wondering if anyone can point me in the right direction to getting this to work? Thanks in advance

• How to get REALLY fast python over a simple loop

  I'm working on a spoj problem, INTEST. The goal is to specify the number of test cases (n) and a divisor (k), then feed your program n numbers. The program will accept each number on a newline of stdin and after receiving the nth number, will tell you how many were divisible by k. The only challenge in this problem is getting your code to be FAST because it k can be anything up to 10^7 and the test cases can be as high as 10^9. I'm trying to write it in python and having trouble speeding it up.   I am creating a cube with the following tables: Customer CustomerID, Name Customer Rep CustomerID, RepID Rep RepID, Name The important thing here is that there is a many to many relationship between Reps and Customers. I want to be able to ask the question "How much sales for customers working with rep 'A'?" In the data source view i set up the relationships between both customerid columns and both repid columns. I set up the rep attribute in the dimension builder and when I try to build the cube I get this error: Errors in the high-level relationship engine. the 'Rep' table that is required for a join cannot be reached based on the relationships in the data source view.

  I'm looking to create a filter that can give me two things: number of request pr minute, and average responsetime pr minute. I already got the individual readings, I'm just not sure how to add them up.   I finished installing Ubuntu 10 for netbooks, and XAMPP. The XAMPP website tutorial made it very easy to install, then left me high and dry. Everything works, but I have no idea where to put my handwritten php files. After a few hours of googling, and trying to understand the file explorer, I realized I have no idea where anything is in ubuntu. For an answer, please don't just tell me "go to "X" directory. I won't know how to navigate there. I also did a file search for htdocs with no luck.

• How can I use multithreading in a Windows Forms application to update a progress bar?

  There are two objects. The Windows Form with a button and a progress bar, and another object that handles an algorithm. In the algorithm object there is an event, and a property. The event is ProgressChanged, and the property is Progress (which is an int). In the calling window, the button starts off a set of steps in the algorithm object. As each step (or substeps) occurs, the ProgressChanged event fires, and in the window there is an event handler that essentially increments the progress bar relative to the Progress property. The problem I am running into is that because the algorithm has a possibility (and high liklihood) of running a relatively long time, I need to move it into it's own background thread and push the event back up to the window. My issue is that I'm not completely sure what I'm doing when it comes to multi-threading. I've looked at Control.Invoke and I'm a little lost. Can someone point me in the right direction?

• Keeping track of threads when creating them recursively

  I'm currently working on some code for my Programming Languages course. I can't post the code but I'm permitted to talk about some high level concepts that I'm struggling with and receive input on them. Basically the code is a recursive DFS on a undirected graph that I'm supposed to convert to a concurrent program. My professor already specified that I should create my threads in the recursive DFS method and then join them in another method. Basically, I'm having trouble thinking of how I should keep track of the threads I'm creating so I can join all of them in the other method. I'm thinking an array of Threads but I'm unsure how to add each new thread to the array or even if that's the right direction.

  Are there any frameworks/libraries that provide servlets/filters etc that handle reencoding on the fly of images. interpret the accept headers and output the file, reencoding into the new format if necessary by checking the actual format of the original image file. provide a low and high quality version of an image. re encode an image into new dimensions. width and height parameters might query string parameters. I could create versions of the file in all the formats, at upload time but the seems overkill. I would rather lazily create the rencoded file and stick it in a cache if it gets served again etc.

• TCP 30 small packets per second polutes connection with server

  I'm testing connection with flash client and cloud server(boost::asio for software) over TCP connection. My connection with server already is really poor - 120 ms ping in average. I found when i start to send packets with 2 bytes size (without tcp header) with speed 30 packets/s ping grow to 170-200 average. I think that it's really bad and my bad connection and bad cloud provider is reason for this high ping without any load. What do you think? (I tested my software and can compute about 50k packets/s so software is not a problem).

• Need help troubleshooting highly variable ping times

  I'm at work using Citrix (think Remote Desktop) to connect to client sites. With my job I have to write a fair bit of code while I'm connected remotely via Citrix, so the latency of my internet connection is important. If I'm getting ping times above 250ms, then it becomes almost impossible to scroll, click or type with accuracy. Recently my Comcast business internet has been exhibiting highly variable ping times. If I ping google.com, I'll get pings that range from 9ms all the way up to 1300ms. The problem seems to be at its worst during the hours of 1PM to 4:30PM. Outside of those hours and the variance in pings settles down, mostly between 9ms and 50ms. The signal to noise ratio and upstream power are both fine on my modem--the values are here: http://pastebin.com/D4hWGPXf I ran a trace route from my computer to google.com (the results of which are here: http://pastebin.com/GcdjYvMh) and did another test ping to the IP of the first hop outside of our local network (73.98.44.1)--the variance in ping times existed in exactly the same manner as if I were pinging Google. Connecting directly to the cable modem by CAT5 makes no difference. Here is a screenshot demonstrating the variance of the ping times: http://postimage.org/image/haocdeauv/full/ -- as you can see it can get pretty bad. Three Comcast techs have been out (two of them were here when the problem wasn't happening) and they as well as the regional tier 2 Comcast support were unable to diagnose the problem. I now have a ticket open with tier 3 support, but have yet to hear back from them. Does anyone know what could cause these sorts of problems or have any idea from the traceroute above where it could be originating? The regional tier 2 guy tried to tell me that what I'm seeing is normal--are highly variable ping times like that ever acceptable? Anything I should ask Comcast to do or look at to get this problem fixed? Any tips/advice much appreciated! Edit: This is Comcast cable internet at a small start-up, we've ruled out congestion in our private LAN as a cause (i.e., no one's watching YouTube when the pings become variable). Update: Tier 3 Comcast support advised swapping out the modem, a tech came here today and did that--same problem persists.

• recommend a server side technology for gwt (beginner)

I am developing a gwt project and am looking for an appropriate server side technology. it should support be open source and support user login (and not using openID...) with password recovery etc it seems that the de-facto standard would be spring + hibernate. however, I am unfamiliar with neither of them and understand that the learning curve (especially for spring) is very high. gwt was quite easy to learn using GOOG's excellent online tutorials but the spring equivalent seem to impose lots of configuration files and deeper understanding of its internals. so I am looking for a simpler server side technology to deploy my gwt app. I am definitely prepared to learn a new framework if necessary but not something that would take me 2 months just to understand the fundamentals... any ideas...?

• Rotating images with PHP reduces quality especially over about 10-20 actions

  I am using this code below to rotate my jpeg images, the problem is that after around 10-20 times of rotating the image the image is dramatically lower quality, especially blue skies and such, my question is how can I keep these images the same high quality image? There must be a way. I mean, i keep the original image on the server for each image uploaded, and I don't do anything to that, so if need be it, I guess I could always come up with some way of using that over whenever possible.. • How should i draw text and shapes in wpf and C#?

  I want to do basic WPF graphics, i.e. rectangles, lines, circles and text. When should I use Drawing and when should I use a DrawingVisual? I have some code that uses Drawing and I render those to a DrawingImage and display that in an image control. Is this the right way? I could not see how to add text to a drawing. I had trouble positioning it too. Should I be rendering to a Canvas? I have some code that uses DrawingVisual and writes to a DrawingContext. That is like WinForms. Is this the recommended way? Do you have any high level advice on which APIs to use for basic graphics and labels? Will they options work on Silver Light and Desktop?

  Hi, I've been searching around the web for an answer to this one, but was unable to find an answer, on the other side I think it's something quite common thus there is a possibility I'm missing some keywords here. Anyhow, the problem is as follows: When is control given to a callback function in ObjC (iPhone)? Does it happen after control is given to a high up in the hierarchy class responsible for the runloop? Can it occur in the middle of another function call being executed? As an example, let's take the NSURLConnection, we don't know or can't predict when it's going to call didReceiveResponse or the other callback methods, can it be the case that didReceiveResponse get's called when I'm in the middle of another function? (highly doubt that but was unable to find information on callbacks wating for the end of the run loop) Cheers, Kaspa

I found that Entity Framework is slow; it has about 2 seconds delay to finish the SaveChanges() method. I was thinking I have the following options: 1. • android drawable changes sizes on screen when reading image from file

  Hi I have an image on a private file. I read the file, create the drawable, and assign it to an ImageView. The ImageView has WRAP_CONTENT so the size is automatic. On 320x480 screens, the image looks good But on screens with more resolution and high density 480x800 or 480x854 (N1, droid) , when the image is for example 150x150, I see the image as 100x100. Of course it has something to do with the density but not sure how should I resolve this. • What weird encoding is movistar Venezuela sms on blackberry using?

  Send an sms using the normal GSM TextMessage API on the BlackBerry, get back garbage. It's not unicode, phone is set to 7-bit send. Byte size is only off by one. Is there some default crypto thing, or some weird encoding they use? This code works most everywhere else in the world; this definitely seems like a movistar problem. The string that comes back is random 7-bit ascii except for a few high order bytes. Needless to say the source input text is totally 7 bit chars, which should work in sms, ISO-8859 and look the same in UTF charsets. Anybody seen this or got sms working in code on movistar VZ blackberries?

How do I transform those into a opaque pixel p? Does the alpha channel go in the high byte or the low byte? I googled up the documentation but it only states that: Each pixel is stored on 4 bytes. Each channel (RGB and alpha for translucency) is stored with 8 bits of precision (256 possible values.) This configuration is very flexible and offers the best quality. I'll use mostly PHP, MySQL, JavaScript and Ajax. But I have never made a project like this before. I have only made like CMS-systems and so on. Do you guys have any tips on how I should structure this project? I'm also not so used to Object-oriented programming, but I guess I should consider this.   I read about the Microsoft specific suffix "i64" for integer constants. I want to do an UNsigned shift to a ULONGLONG. ULONGLONG bigNum64 = 0x800000000000000i64 >> myval; In normal C, I would use the suffix "U", e.g. the similar 32 bit operation would be ULONG bigNum32 = 0x80000000U >> myval; I do NOT want the 2's complement sign extension to propogate through the high bits. I want an UNSIGNED shift on a 64 bit const number. I think my first statement is going to do a SIGNED shift right. I tried 0x800000000000000i64U and 0x800000000000000u64 but got compiler errors.

• VC++ - Asynchronous Thread

  I am working on VC++ project, in that my application process a file from input path and generates 3 output "*.DAT" files in the destination path. I will FTP these DAT file to the destination server. After FTP, I need to delete only two output .DAT files the folder. I am able to delete those files, because there one Asynchronous thread running behind the process. Since the thread is running, while deleting it says, "Cannot delete, the file is used by another person". I need to stop that thread and delete the files. Multiple files can also be taken from the input path to process. Please help me in resolving this issue. Its very high priority issue for me. Please help me ASAP.

• What's the best way to return something like a collection of `std::auto_ptr`s in C++03?

  std::auto_ptr is not allowed to be stored in an STL container, such as std::vector. However, occasionally there are cases where I need to return a collection of polymorphic objects, and therefore I can't return a vector of objects (due to the slicing problem). I can use std::tr1::shared_ptr and stick those in the vector, but then I have to pay a high price of maintaining separate reference counts, and object that owns the actual memory (the container) no longer logically "owns" the objects because they can be copied out of it without regard to ownership. C++0x offers a perfect solution to this problem in the form of std::vector<std::unique_ptr<t>>, but I don't have access to C++0x. Some other notes: I don't have access to C++0x, but I do have TR1 available. I would like to avoid use of Boost (though it is available if there is no other option) I am aware of boost::ptr_container containers (i.e. boost::ptr_vector), but I would like to avoid this because it breaks the debugger (innards are stored in void *s which means it's difficult to view the object actually stored inside the container in the debugger)
