  I am building a part of a simulator. We are building off of a legacy simulator, but going in different direction, incorporating live bits along side of the simulated bits. The piece I am working on has to, effectively route commands from the central controller to the various bits. In the legacy code, there is a const array populated with an enumerated type. A command comes in, it is looked up in the table, then shipped off to a switch statement keyed by the enumerated type. The type enumeration has a choice VALID_BUT_NOT_SIMULATED, which is effectively a no-op from the point of the sim. I need to turn those no-ops into commands to actual other things [new simulated bits| live bits]. The new stuff and the live stuff have different interfaces than the old stuff [which makes me laugh about the shill job that it took to make it all happen, but that is a topic for a different discussion]. I like the array because it is a very apt description of the live thing this chunk is simulating [latching circuits by row and column]. I thought that I would try to replace the enumerated types in the array with pointers to functions and call them directly. This would be in lieu of the lookup+switch.

  I've written a few jquery plugins for my client. I want to write a function which would initialize each plugin which have been loaded. But I want to have a leaner way. Can all loaded plugins register a initialize function in an array or something like that which I in document.ready can iterate through and invoke? like: //in plugin1.js myCustomPlugins['plugin1'] = function() { $('a.ajax').plugin1(); }; // and in the initializer script: myCustomPlugins.each(function() { this(); }; Guess it all boiled down to three questions: How do I use a jquery "global" array?   Hey guys, I would like to have group based restrictions that would allow users to access only specified parts of the web. I am new to the whole ACL stuff and I didn't quite get it from the manual :/ therefore I would like to ask some questions. But before any questions, my routes look like this: Router::connect('/', array('controller' => 'users', 'action' => 'login')); Router::connect('/admin/:controller/:action/*', array('prefix' => 'admin', 'admin' => true)); Router::connect('/registered/:controller/:action/*', array('prefix' => 'registered', 'registered' => true)); 1.) How do I restrict users from any other group than Administrator to access ONLY the /registered/ part of the web 2.) How do I prevent anyone from using the default addresses like www.example.com/users/add on a global scale (I want only www.example.com/admin/users/add or www.example.com/registered/users/add type of addresses)? This kind of addresses is not event set in the routes.php but they still work. Any answers apprecated

This highly rated answer won't work because DateTime-diff() is php 5.3+. • Synfony2 validation changes invalid integer to 0

  I've added validation to a form and found that in some cases it is losing the invalid data I am feeding it and saving 0s instead. The output at the bottom shows that if I post the latitude as 'zzzzzz' (clearly not a number nor between -90 and 90) the form is declared as valid and saved with the value 0 How can that happen given that I have declared the input must be a number?   Scenario: I am tracking several performance counters and have a CounterDescription[] correlate to DataSnapshot[]... where CounterDescription[n] describes the data loaded within DataSnapshot[n]. I want to expose an easy to use API within C# that will allow for the easy and efficient expansion of the arrays. For example CounterDescription[0] = Humidity; DataSnapshot[0] = .9; CounterDescription[1] = Temp; DataSnapshot[1] = 63; My upload object is defined like this: Note how my intent is to correlate many Datasnapshots with a dattime reference, and using the offset of the data to refer to its meaning. • Generate unique ID from multiple values with fault tolerance

  Given some values, I'd like to make a (pretty darn) unique result. $unique1 = generate(array('ab034', '981kja7261', '381jkfa0', 'vzcvqdx2993883i3ifja8', '0plnmjfys')); //now $unique1 == "sqef3452y"; I also need something that's pretty close to return the same result. In this case, 20% of the values is missing. $unique2 = generate(array('ab034', '981kja7261', '381jkfa0', 'vzcvqdx2993883i3ifja8')); //also $unique2 == "sqef3452y"; I'm not sure where to begin with such an algorithm but I have some assumptions. I assume that the more values given, the more accurate the resulting ID – in other words, using 20 values is better than 5. I also assume that a confidence factor can be calculated and adjusted. What would be nice to have is a weight factor where one can say 'value 1 is more important than value 3'. This would require a multidimensional array for input instead of one dimension. I just mashed on the keyboard for these values, but in practice they may be short or long alpha numeric values.

• Problem with reading and writing to binary file in C++

  I need to make a file that contains "name" which is a string -array of char- and "data" which is array of bytes -array of char in C++- but the first problem I faced is how to separate the "name" from the "data"? newline character could work in this case (assuming that I don't have "\n" in the name) but I could have special characters in the "data" part so there's no way to know when it ends so I'm putting an int value in the file before the data which has the size of the "data"! I tried to do this with code as follow: if((fp = fopen("file.bin","wb")) == NULL) { return false; } char buffer[] = "first data\n"; fwrite( buffer ,1,sizeof(buffer),fp ); int number[1]; number[0]=10; fwrite( number ,1,1, fp ); char data[] = "1234567890"; fwrite( data , 1, number[0], fp ); fclose(fp); but I didn't know if the "int" part was right, so I tried many other codes including this one: char buffer[] = "first data\n"; fwrite( buffer ,1,sizeof(buffer),fp ); int size=10; fwrite( &size ,sizeof size,1, fp ); char data[] = "1234567890"; fwrite( data , 1, number[0], fp ); I see 4 "NULL" characters in the file when I open it instead of seeing an integer. Is that normal? The other problem I'm facing is reading that again from the file! The code I tried to read didn't work at all :( I tried it with "fread" but I'm not sure if I should use "fseek" with it or it just read the other character after it. Forgive me but I'm a beginner :(

• C function prototype: void f(). Is it recommended?

  Hi, I'm learning C and I saw in a book that a function prototype has the form void f() and in the function declaration or in the calling function, the f function takes arguments. Thus In the function declaration we have something like void f(long double y[], long double A) and in the calling function is f(y, A). The function is doing operations on the array y i.e. when the function is called, some elements in the array y are changing. A is just a constant numerical value that doesn't change. I have two questions: If defining the function prototype at the top in the program as void f() a good practice? Or is it better to put it as void f(long double y[], long double A) as in the function declaration? The called function f is changing elements in the array y. Is void the right return type? The program is working fine as such with the void as described. Or should I change all my "voids" to "long double". I'm working with long double as I need as much precision as possible though on my machine both double and long double gives me 15 precision digits. Thanks a lot

• How to catch this low level MySQL (?) error in PHP/Magento

  When I'm executing the following statement in Magento with a really large $sku, the execution terminates without any errors thrown what so ever. There are no errors in either Magento's, Apache's or PHP's error logs. Mage::getModel('catalog/product')-loadByAttribute('sku', $sku); Question: How do I catch the error? I've tried to set custom error handlers, and for testing purposes I've also managed to trigger error situations where each of the error handler functions are invoked. But when running the previously mentioned Magento code with a large $sku, none of the error handling functions are executed. error_reporting( -1 ); set_error_handler( array( 'Error', 'captureNormal' ) ); set_exception_handler( array( 'Error', 'captureException' ) ); register_shutdown_function( array( 'Error', 'captureShutdown' ) ); For completeness, this is the $sku I'm passing to loadByAttribute(). This is so that I can present a proper error message to the user. The example above with the malformed sku is contrived and I have no desire to make my Magento app work with those erroneous skus.

• Centering Divisions Around Zero

  I'm trying to create something that sort of resembles a histogram. I'm trying to create buckets from an array. Suppose I have a random array doubles between -10 and 10; this is very simplified. I then want to specify a center point, in this case 0 and the number of buckets. If I want 4 buckets the division would be -10 to -5, -5 to 0, 0 to 5 and 5 to 10. Not that complicated right. Now if I change the min and max to -12 and -9 and as for 4 divisions its more complicated. I either want a division at -3 and 3; it is centered around 0 ; or one at -6 to 0 and 0 to 6. Its not that hard to find the division size = Math.Ceiling((Abs(Max) + Abs(Min)) / Divisions) Then you would basically have an if statement to determine whether you want it centered on 0 or on an edge. You then iterate out from either 0 or DivisionSize/2 depending on the situation. You may not ALWAYS end up with the specified number of divisions but it will be close. Then you iterate through the array and increment the bin count. Does this seem like a good way to go about this? This method would surely work but it does not seem to be the most elegant. I'm curious as to whether the creation of the bins and the counting from the list could be done in a clever class with linq in a more elegant way? Something like creating the bins and then having each bin be a property {get;} that returns list.Count(x=> x >= Lower && x < Upper).

• How to select "child" entities in subview?

  I am trying to manage a drill-down list of data. I've got an entity, Contact, that has a to-many relationship with another entity, Rule. In my root view controller, I use a fetched results controller to manage and display the list of Contacts. When a Contact is tapped, I push a new view controller onto the stack with a list of the Contact's Rules. I have not been able to figure out how to use a second fetched results controller to display the Rules, so I'm using the following: // create a set of the contact's rules rules = [NSMutableSet set]; rules = [self.contact mutableSetValueForKey:@"rule"]; // create an array of rules from the set arrayOfRules = [NSMutableArray arrayWithCapacity:[rules count]]; for (id oneObject in rules) [arrayOfRules addObject:oneObject]; // sort the array of rules NSSortDescriptor *descriptor = [[NSSortDescriptor alloc] initWithKey:@"phoneLabel" ascending:YES]; [arrayOfRules sortUsingDescriptors:[NSArray arrayWithObject:descriptor]]; [descriptor release]; I create a set of Rules, then use that to create an array of Rules for sorting. I then use these two collections to populate the grouped table view. All of this appears to be working correctly. Here's my problem: There are several different actions a user can take in this view, and most of them require that I know which Rule was tapped. But I can't figure out how to get that. For instance, say a user wants to delete a Rule. It seems to me the proper approach is something like... [rules removeObject:ruleObjectToBeRemoved] ...but I can't figure out how to specifiy ruleObjectToBeRemoved. I hope all of this makes sense. As usual, thanks in advance for any advice you can offer.

• Zend Framework - How do make a hierarchy without it being a module?

  Here is my specific issue. I want to make an api level which then under that you can select which method you will use. For example: test.com/api/rest test.com/api/xmlprc Currently I have api mapping to a module directory. I then setup a route to make it a rest route. test.com/api is a rest route, but I would rather have it be test.com/api/rest. This would allow me later to add others. In Bootstrap.php: $front = Zend_Controller_Front::getInstance(); $router = $front->getRouter(); $route = new Zend_Controller_Router_Route( 'api/:module/:controller/:id/*', array('module' =>'default') ); $router-addRoute('api', $route); $restRoute = new Zend_Rest_Route($front, array(), array( 'rest' )); $router-addRoute('rest', $restRoute); return $router; In application.ini: resources.frontController.moduleDirectory = APPLICATION_PATH "/modules" I know it will involve routes, but sometimes I find the Zend Framework documentation to be a little hard to follow. When I go to test.com/rest/controller/ it works how it should, but if I go to test.com/api/rest/ it tells me that my module is api and controller is rest.

• Problem with PHP localeconv() - Maybe UTF-8

  I'm having an issue with the localeconv() in PHP. I'm using a Windows PC. I set my locale to France using setLocale(LC_ALL, 'fra_fra') function. Then I call the localeconv() function to a variable. When I output that variable, below is what I get. Array ( [decimal_point] = , [thousands_sep] = ? [int_curr_symbol] = EUR [currency_symbol] = ? [mon_decimal_point] = , [mon_thousands_sep] = ? [positive_sign] = [negative_sign] = - [int_frac_digits] = 2 [frac_digits] = 2 [p_cs_precedes] = 0 [p_sep_by_space] = 1 [n_cs_precedes] = 0 [n_sep_by_space] = 1 [p_sign_posn] = 1 [n_sign_posn] = 1 [grouping] = Array ( [0] = 3 ) [mon_grouping] = Array ( [0] = 3 ) ) I'm not sure if it is a UTF-8 display issue. I've done the following: Set my default_charset in PHP.ini to UTF-8 The Content-type on my page is UTF-8 I've also called same in a header i.e. header('Content-type: text/html; charset=utf-8') I'm using firefox and changed the charset there too, still no luck I also updated my http.conf file with AddDefaultCharset, but still no cigar I'm completely stumped and not sure what next to do. Can anyone help out? Thanks.

  Hi, i need some help with inserting multiple rows from different arrays into my database. I am making the database for a seating plan, for each seating block there is 5 rows (A-E) with each row having 15 seats. my DB rows are seat_id, seat_block, seat_row, seat_number, therefore i need to add 15 seat_numbers for each seat_row and 5 seat_rows for each seat_block. I mocked it up with some foreach loops but need some help turning it into an (hopefully single) SQL statement. $blocks = array("A","B","C","D"); $seat_rows = array("A","B","C","D","E"); $seat_nums = array("1","2","3","4","5","6","7","8","9","10","11","12","13","14","15"); foreach($blocks as $block){ echo "<br><br>"; echo "Block: " . $block . • Symfony 1.4 Form Value change after getValues()

  Hi, I've got some problem with symfony form value (i guess it's the clean value, but not so clear yet). Here's the problem : I got a sfFormDateJQueryUI widget setup like this in my form : $this->setWidgets(array( 'needDate' => new sfWidgetFormDateJQueryUI(), )); $this->setValidators(array( 'needDate' => new sfValidatorDate(array( 'required' => true, 'date_format' => '/^[0-9]{2}\/[0-9]{2}\/[0-9]{4}$/', 'date_output' => 'd/m/Y' )), )); Then when i submit, say 26/06/2010, it turns out right in the HTTP Header (viewed via Firebug) and $request (i just print it). But after i get the value via $formVal = $form->getValues(); the date value in $formVal["needDate"] become today's date (03/06/2010). I really don't understand, and after checking in the API documentation it says that the getValues will return the 'cleaned' value. Is that because of it ? I don't understand what's 'clean'. • I asked a question about arrays before, but this one won't compile

  I asked about this array a little while ago, and I can't see what the problem is. Too tired. What have I done wrong? Basically, I am taking a string array and trying to check to see if it contains numbers or an x (ISBN number validation). I want to take the number from a given input (bookNum), check the input, and feed any valid input into a new array (book). At the line 'bookNum.charAt[j]==book[i]' I get the 'not a statement error'. What gives? If i was 0, 0 * 4 equals 0. I assume this is correct thinking? Anyway the main question is, trying to generate the dates isn't working. When i created a fixture list for 4 users home and away, I got 12 fixtures. 10 of these had the same date on them, and the other 2 didnt have a date. Can anyone help me with this? Thanks

Is there any way to overcome this problem?

  I'm loading several external JSON files and want to check if they have been successfully cached before the the next screen is displayed. My strategy is to check the name of the array to see if it an object. My code works perfectly when I check only a single array and hard code the array name into my function. • Storing same type but still getting an ArrayStoreException

  I have strange problem. I have three classes. Book ( abstract ), and two subclasses ( Fiction, Nonfiction). I have created array of Book references. That array can hold both subclasse's objects. I'have following code for Fiction class. public class Fiction extends Book{ public Fiction(String title) { super(title); setPrice(); } public void setPrice() { super.price = 24.99; } } And the "same" code for Nonfiction class public class Nonfiction extends Book{ public Nonfiction(String title) { super(title); setPrice(); } public void setPrice() { super.price = 37.99; } } And this is Main program. import javax.swing.JOptionPane; public class Main { public static void main(String[] args) { Book[] book = new Fiction[6]; for(int i = 0; i<book.length; i++) { if(i<4) { String title = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter fiction book, no "+i); book[i] = new Fiction(title); } else { String title = JOptionPane.showInputDialog("Enter non fiction book, no "+i); book[i] = new Nonfiction(title); } } for(int x = 0; x<book.length; x++) { System.out.println("Book named "+book[x].getTitle()+" costs "+book[x].getPrice()); } } } For any reason i'm getting ArrayStoreException on this line.. book[i] = new Nonfiction(title); But same code works for Fiction class. I checked java documentation and it says that this exception is thrown when i'm trying to store different objects in array ( like String and Int ), but in this case they are all the same objects. Both classes are children of superclass, that means, they are of the same type. I'm confsued. A little help here please?
