I've got ~100 PCs, some servers and see three ways to assign IPs: Static IPs for every PC/server Static IP reservation by MAC-address in DHCP Dynamic IPs via DHCP.     Hello, I'm trying to sync my music collection between my mac and my linux workstation but fails to mirror from my server share to linux. rsync -avz --progress Music/ /volumes/myserver/music works fine but the reverse on my linux ws doesnt. rsync -avz --progress /path/to/samba/share/music/ ~/Music does nothing..   • Quick method to determine SSD drive health?

    I have an Intel X-25M drive that was marked "failed" twice in a ZFS storage array, as noted here. However, after removing the drive, it seems to to mount, read and write in other computers (Mac, PC, USB enclosure, etc.) Is there a good way to determine the drive's present health? I feel that the previous failure in the ZFS solution was the convergence of bugs, bad error reporting and hardware. It seems like this drive may have some life in it, though.

  • graphical svn client for creating branches, merging branches etc?

    hi i wonder if there are some GUI softwares to administrate a svn repo? or do you actually have to log into the ubuntu server with ssh and use all the svn commands to copy the trunk to a branch, merge the data back and forth, copy to a tag, delete and so on... im using netbeans in mac. i think it's only handling the communication between a local project and the repo. not the flows between trunc, branch and tag (creating, deleting, viewing differences etc)

  • Payment for update OS X in business environment

    I have to update some Mac work stations in a business environment from Snow Leopard (10.6) to Lion (10.7). I found that the way is to purchase it from App Store (for 24 EUR). Now the problem is that all my users of the workstations used their own Apple ID to sign in in App Store and thus they have their private credit card information bounded to the account and I can not require them to pay the price of the update. How can I pay for the update with a company credit card?

  • How to jump back to the first character in *nix command line?

    When writing a long command in the *nix command line and having to go back to the first character, in order to add something at the beginning (for instance a nohup, when you realize the process will be a long one, or a sudo, when you realize you need root permissions) it can take a long time for the cursor to make its way back to the first character... Is there a short cut that allows you to jump straight there? I'm using a mac, so Home is not an option

    I'm trying to grep through a bunch of files in nested subdirectories to look for regular expression matches; my regex requires negative lookbehind. Perl has negative lookbehind, but as far as I can tell GNU grep doesn't support negative lookbehinds. What's the easiest way to get an equivalent to GNU grep that supports negative lookbehinds? (I guess I could write my own mini-grep in Perl, but that doesn't seem like it should be necessary. My copy of the Perl Cookbook includes source for tcgrep; is that what I should use? If so, where's the latest version? Don't tell me I have to type this entire program!)

  • MIPS (or SPIM): Loading floating point numbers...

    Hey hey, I am working on a little mini compiler while trying to learn some MIPS here. Here's my issue: MIPS has an instruction li (load immediate) which would work like this li $5,100 which would load 100 into register 5. However, I need to load floats into registers right now and am struggling with figuring out a way to do it...since li $5,2.5 does not work. Anyone have any advice? I am working in C, I was thinking I could somehow get the integer representation of the float I am working with (i.e. so the floats binary representation == the ints binary representation) then load the "integer" into the register and treat it like a float from then on. Maybe its too late but Im stuck right now.

  • Creating a user-defined code generation system in PHP

    My newest project that I'm looking to build with CodeIgniter would require some sort of system that would allow a user to drag and drop pre-defined functions/methods into mini-classes/objects and then run/test them in the browser. So it'd something similar to Scratch. I've designed a relational database that I think could work for this (storing the function names and have these classes "subscribe" to those functions) - but I'm wondering whether or not to go ahead with it. Is there a better way to do this or is there a system out there that would accomplish this for me? EDIT: It would have to be extremely simple for an end user, but hopefully be flexible enough to easily add more complex functionality in the future.

    I'm currently testing a new version of an app of mine on OSX 10.5 An user reported some weird crashes during use of the application, sadly not reproducible by me. At first sight it seems to happen randomly, once he had the crash while opening an NSOpenPanel and once during focusing an NSTextField and once during NSView switch in a parent view.     Hello everyone, I want to build a web app in JPA2/CDI (without EJBs) and i get how to code the different beans (i worked for some time on seam/jpa apps), but i'm stuck because i can't find a complete working set of configuration files (ie : persistence.xmln web.xml and stuff), and there is always a little glitch or something i miss. My goal is to develop a simple CRUD (1 or 2 pages) but unit tested, for future use, as a code base.   • Java: Read POST data from a socket on an HTTP server

    I have a website (python/django) that needs to use a load of Java resources that may or may not be on the same server. Therefore I am writing a mini webserver in Java that will receive a request and then when processing is finished, POST some data back to a url on the site. I have got the java code receiving connections on sockets and responding with some simple HTML. My problem is that I will POST data to the Java server and that code needs to act on the data. How do I go about reading the data that is posted in the HTML request, if it is even possible. If not, is there any other way you would do this. If you think I am going about this in completely the wrong way then please tell me and I will consider another method, but after conversing with some Java developers, this seemed like the best way for what I was doing.   • Documenting user scenarios and measuring/testing

    Please forgive me as I don't quite remember the exact terms for what I am talking about... hence my question. Recently I worked on a large Agile team where I encountered a method of defining user scenarios (much like user stories). These scenarios were a few very basic short sentences with keywords and a structure that could be understood by humans (especially project managers) and could also be coded against using some Java Framework (for verifying tests). The exact structure of this mini language used keywords like "when" and "and" or "if" which was how the framework parsed and verified the result. The purpose of this framework was to interface between management and the acceptance testing framework. So essentially management could write the tests themselves using English. The scenario went something like this: "When a user visits URL and User clicks on X Something happens (that can be measured)" Can anyone help me remember exactly what I am talking about? Many thanks

    Hi, I'm trying to use the sortable widget for my site. I have a mini scheduling app that I'd like to display a list of appointments for the week sorted by days. For this example we'll use only two days ( 2 lists ). If I wanted to drag an appointment (list item) from day 2 over to day 1, is there a way I can callback the id of list 1 after I dragged an item to it? I can find the id of the parent list upon page load but I can't seem to be able to pull the new id after sort.   • What "already invented" algorithm did you invent?

    In my question Insert Update stored proc on SQL Server I explained an efficient way of doing an insert/update - perhaps THE most efficient. It's nothing amazing but it's a small algorithm that I came up with in a mini-Eureka moment. Although I had "invented" it by myself and secretly hoped that I was the first to do so I knew that it had probably been around for years but after posting on a couple of lists and not getting confirmation I had never found anything definitive written up about it. So my questions: What software algorithm did you come up with that you thought that you'd invented? Or better yet, did you invent one?
