• Need help setting up a truststore's chain of authority (in Tomcat)

  Lead in ... I'm not an expert, by far, in application security via SSL, but am trying to establish a test environment that includes all possible scenarios we may encounter in production. For this I have a tree of Certificate Authorities (CAs) that are the issuers of an assortment of test client certificates, and node/server certificates (complex test environment representing the various published web services and other applications we integrate with). The structure of these CAs are as follows: Root CA, which has signed/issued Sub CA1, Sub CA2, and Sub CA3. These subs have then signed/issued all certificates of those various nodes and clients in the environment. Now for the question .... In my application's truststore I would like to trust everything signed by Sub CA1, and Sub CA2, but not Sub CA3 (untrusted). Does this mean my truststore should (1) ONLY include Sub CA1 and Sub CA2, or (2) should it include Root CA, Sub CA1, and Sub CA2? I don't know what is the proper way to represent this trust chain in a truststore. In the future I would also like to add a Sub CA4 (also signed/issued by the Root CA), but add that to a Certificate Revocation List (CRL) for testing purposes.   Good Evening. • MVC design pattern in complex iPad app: is one fat controller acceptable?

  I am building a complex iPad application; think of it as a scrapbook. For the purpose of this question, let's consider a page with two images over it. My main view displays my doc data rendered as a single UIImage; this because I need to do some global manipulation over them. This is my DisplayView. When editing I need to instantiate an EditorView with my two images as subviews; this way I can interact with a single image, (rotate it, scale it, move it). When editing is triggered, I hide my DisplayView and show my EditorView. In a iPhone app, I'd associate each main view (that is, a view filling the screen) to a view controller. The problem is here there is just one view controller; I've considered passing the EditorView via a modal view controller, but it's not an option (there a complex layout with a mask covering everything and palettes over it; rebuilding it in the EditorView would create duplicate code). Presently the EditorView incorporates some logic (loads data from the model, invokes some subviews for fine editing, saves data back to the model); EditorView subviews also incorporate some logic (I manipulate images and pass them back to the main EditorView). I feel this logic belongs more to a controller. On the other hand, I am not sure making my only view controller so fat a good idea. What is the best, cocoa-ish implementation of such a class structure? Feel free to ask for clarifications. Cheers.

• Background loading javascript into iframe with using jQuery/Ajax?

  I'm working on an offline only help system which requires loading a large amount of search-related data into an iframe before the search functionality can be used. Due to the folder structure of the project, I am unable to use Ajax-related background load methods, since the files I need are loaded a few directories "up and over." I have written some code which delays the loading of the help data until the rest of the webpage is loaded. The help data consists of a bunch of javascript files which have information about the terms, ect that exist in the help books which are installed on the system. The webpage works fine, until I start to load this help data into a hidden iframe. While the javascript files are loading, I can not use any of the webpage. Links that require a small files be downloaded for hover over effects don't show up, javascript (switching tabs on the page) has no effect. I'm wondering if this is just a limitation of the way javascript works, or if there's something else going on here. How can this be done in jQuery?

  For J2me It strikes me as odd that you need an extra "api key" and so on. But actually, what I really want is NOT create an extra facebook application that needs to be registered on Facebook. I don't want to create any extra configuration effords necessary for the user of my application to undergo. All my user should need is his well-known login data for facebook. Everything else should be completely transparent to him. So, I thought maybe would u can do the login process, creating a request to the REST server via http. I know this would provide me with an XML. I hope that the this API will somehow automatically transform that XML into an intuitive object model that represents the facebook user data of the respective user. So, I would expect something like userData = new FacebookData(new FacebookConnection("user_name", "password")). Done. If you get, what I mean. No api key. No secret key. Just the well-known login data. Practically, the equivalent to thunderbird webmail, which allows you to access your MSN hotmail account via Thunderbird. Thunderbird webmail will automatically converts the htmls obtained from a hotmail browser login into the data structure usually passed on to a mail client. Hope you get what I mean. I was expecting the equilalent for the your API.

  I am trying to strip everything between a key phrase and ending tag but for some reason it is not working. I always get blank data. I've tried many different ways but no luck. Basically I have a script that connect to IMAP and store emails into MySQL as service tickets. It works great but I am trying to strip off everything except for user reply because currently if a user reply to an email it re-inserts the entire email into MySQL. I added a key phrase at the top of all outgoing emails . Structure is as below: --Reply below this line to respond-- ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Email body message... When replying to the message, it becomes: New Message reply...... --Reply below this line to respond-- old message body. I would only like to insert the new reply message only. This is what I've got so far: $message = strip_tags($message, "<br><div><p><u><hr></section>"); $message=preg_replace("</p>", "br /", $message); $message=preg_replace('#--REPLY above this line to respond--(.*?)</section>)#s', ' ', $message); $message=clean("<br/><hr><u>Received On $rep_date / $from_email</u><br><br/>$message"); It inserts the Received On date and From but $message is blank. • How can I integrate advanced computations into a database field?

  My biological research involves the measurement of a cellular structure as it changes length throughout the course of observation (capturing images every minute for several hours). As my data sets have become larger I am trying to store them in an Access database, from which I would like to perform various queries about their changes in size. I know that the SELECT statement can incorporate some mathematical permutations, but I have been unable to incorporate many of my necessary calculations (probably due to my lack of knowledge). For example, one calculation involves determining the rate of change during specifically defined periods of growth. This calculation is entirely dependent on the raw data saved in the table, therefore I didn't this it would be appropriate to just calculate it in excel prior to entry into the field. So my question is, what would be the most appropriate method of performing this calculation. Should I attempt to string together a huge SELECT calculation in my QUERY, or is there a way to use another language (I know perl?) which can be called to populate the new query field? I'm not looking for someone to write the code, just where is it appropriate to incorporate each step. Also, I am currently using Office Access but would be interested in any mySQL answers as I may be moving to this platform at a later date. Thanks all!

• Vectors or Java arrays for Tetris?

  I'm trying to create a Tetris-like game with Clojure and I'm having some trouble deciding the data structure for the playing field. I want to define the playing field as a mutable grid. The individual blocks are also grids, but don't need to be mutable. My first attempt was to define a grid as a vector of vectors. For example an S-block looks like this: :s-block { :grids [ [ [ 0 1 1 ] [ 1 1 0 ] ] [ [ 1 0 ] [ 1 1 ] [ 0 1 ] ] ] } But that turns out to be rather tricky for simple things like iterating and painting (see the code below). For making the grid mutable my initial idea was to make each row a reference. But then I couldn't really figure out how to change the value of a specific cell in a row. One option would have been to create each individual cell a ref instead of each row. But that feels like an unclean approach. I'm considering using Java arrays now. Clojure's aget and aset functions will probably turn out to be much simpler. However before digging myself in a deeper mess I want to ask ideas/insights. How would you recommend implementing a mutable 2d grid? Feel free to share alternative approaches as well. Source code current state: Tetris.clj (rev452)

• XSLT apply attribute depending on position

  I am using XSLT for a website based on the 960 grid css framework. I have columns of divs that span across the page if it is the first div in a row it should have a class first applied, if it is the middle one then no class and if it is the 3rd in the row it should have the class last applied. I am really scratching my head as the best way to go about this any help is appreciated. • Must JsUnit Cases Reside Under the Same Directory as JsUnit?

  I have installed JsUnit and a test case as follows: /home/chernevik/Programming/JavaScript/jsunit /home/chernevik/Programming/JavaScript/jsunit/testRunner.html /home/chernevik/Programming/JavaScript/jsunit/myTests/lineTestAbs.html /home/chernevik/Programming/JavaScript/lineTestAbs.html When I open the test runner in a browser as a file, and test lineTestAbs.html from the jsunit/myTests directory, it passes. When I test the same file from the JavaScript directory, the test runner times out, asking if the file exists or is a test page. Questions: Am I doing something wrong here, or is this the expected behavior? Is it possible to put test cases in a different directory structure, and if so what is the proper path reference to to JsUnitCore.js? • OOP + MVC advice on Member Controller

  Hi, I am trying to follow good practices as much as possible while I'm learning using OOP in an MVC structure, so i'm turning to you guys for a bit of advice on something which is bothering me a little here. I am writing a site where I will have a number of different forms for members to fill in (mainly data about themselves), so i've decided to set up a Member controller where all of the forms relating to the member are represented as individual methods. This includes login/logout methods, as well as editing profile data etc. In addition to these methods, i also have a method to generate the member's control panel widget, which is a constant on every page on the site while the member is logged in. The only thing is, all of the other methods in this controller all have the same dependencies and form templates, so it would be great to generate all this in the constructor, but as the control_panel method does not have the same dependencies etc, I cannot use the constructor for this purpose, and instead I have to redeclare the dependencies and same template snippets in each method. This obviously isn't ideal and doesn't follow DRY principle, but I'm wondering what I should do with the control_panel method, as it is related to the member and that's why I put it in that controller in the first place. Am I just over-complicating things here and does it make sense to just move the control_panel method into a simple helper class? • Why Is Java Missing Access Specifiers?

  Does anyone understand why Java is missing: An access specifier which allows access by the class and all subclasses, but NOT by other classes in the same package? (Protected-minus) An access specifier which allows access by the class, all classes in the same package, AND all classes in any sub-package? (Default-plus) An access specifier which adds classes in sub-packages to the entities currently allowed access by protected? (Protected-plus) I wish I had more choices than protected and default. In particular, I'm interested in the Protected-plus option. Say I want to use a Builder/Factory patterned class to produce an object with many links to other objects. The constructors on the objects are all default, because I want to force you to use the factory class to produce instances, in order to make sure the linking is done correctly. I want to group the factories in a sub-package to keep them all together and distinct from the objects they are instantiating---this just seems like a cleaner package structure to me. No can do, currently. I have to put the builders in the same package as the objects they are constructing, in order to gain the access to defaults. But separating project.area.objects from project.area.objects.builders would be so nice. So why is Java lacking these options? And, is there anyway to fake it?

• Error "initializer element is not constant" when trying to initialize variable with const

  I get an error on line 6 (initialize my_foo to foo_init) of the following program and I'm not sure I understand why. typedef struct foo_t { int a, b, c; } foo_t; const foo_t foo_init = { 1, 2, 3 }; foo_t my_foo = foo_init; int main() { return 0; } Keep in mind this is a simplified version of a larger, multi-file project I'm working on. The goal was to have a single constant in the object file, that multiple files could use to initialize a state structure. Since it's an embedded target with limited resources and the struct isn't that small, I don't want multiple copies of the source. I'd prefer not to use: #define foo_init { 1, 2, 3 } I'm also trying to write portable code, so I need a solution that's valid C89 or C99. Does this have to do with the ORGs in an object file? That initialized variables go into one ORG and are initialized by copying the contents of a second ORG? Maybe I'll just need to change my tactic, and have an initializing function do all of the copies at startup. Unless there are other ideas out there?

  The default WordPress categories widget does not allow excluding named categories. I've created a plugin which creates adds a Customized category widget to the "Available Widgets" listing which gives me some control over the items I want to exclude. I'd also like to give the user the options to specify the title of the categories listing (just as they can do in the default categories widget). btw, I'm using id 1 which is the default "uncategorized" category and assigning items to that category that I don't want to appear in the listing. • Using enum values to represent binary operators (or functions)

  I'm looking for an elegant way to use values in a Java enum to represent operations or functions. My guess is, since this is Java, there just isn't going to be a nice way to do it, but here goes anyway. My enum looks something like this: public enum Operator { LT, LTEQ, EQEQ, GT, GTEQ, NEQ; ... } where LT means < (less than), LTEQ means <= (less than or equal to), etc - you get the idea. Now I want to actually use these enum values to apply an operator. I know I could do this just using a whole bunch of if-statements, but that's the ugly, OO way, e.g.: int a = ..., b = ...; Operator foo = ...; // one of the enum values if (foo == Operator.LT) { return a < b; } else if (foo == Operator.LTEQ) { return a <= b; } else if ... // etc What I'd like to be able to do is cut out this structure and use some sort of first-class function or even polymorphism, but I'm not really sure how. Something like: int a = ..., b = ...; Operator foo = ...; return foo.apply(a, b); or even int a = ..., b = ...; Operator foo = ...; return a foo.convertToOperator() b; But as far as I've seen, I don't think it's possible to return an operator or function (at least, not without using some 3rd-party library). Any suggestions?

• Filter design for audio signal.

  What I am trying to do is simple. I have a few .wav files. I want to remove noise and filter out specific frequencies. I don't have matlab and I intend to write my own code for all the filters. Right now, I have a way to read the .wav file and dump out the structure into a text file. My questions are the following: Can I directly apply the digital filters on this sampled data?{ ie, can I directly do a convolution between my input samples and h(n) for the filter function that i choose?). How do I choose the number of coefficients for the Window function? I have octave, so if someone can point me to anything that gives me some idea on how to process the .wav file using octave, that would be great too. I want to be able to filter out the frequency and then listen to the sound again. Is this possible with octave? I'm just a beginner with these kinds of things, so please bear with me if my questions are too naive. Any help will be great.

• Could git do not store history of specific folders when working with git-svn?

  In short: Is there a way to disable storing full history for specific folders in git-svn repo? We have pretty large SVN repo with big checkout. I would like to migrate it to Git for my local development, because Git speeds up update and status commands orders of magnitude. When I simply do git svn clone it creates very big repo. Big enough to be bigger then my whole HDD. The problem lies in binary directories for which history is too large. Latest binaries are required for proper local build, but history is not required at all for my development process. I will never change them myself. I would like to store only latest versions for specific folders, or may be a history, but for no more than a week. I could only found filter for git svn fetch, which excludes specific folders at all. This is not exactly what I need. It's OK with me to have Cron task which deletes history from specific folders, but I do not know how to make one. Also Cron does not solve problem of first git svn clone. P.S. SVN repository structure could not be changed by any means.

• jquery problem with toggle event only fireing on the 2nd click...

  Can anyone explain why the following jquery only fires the 2nd toggle event and how to fix it? Specifically, every time I click the nested < a element it brings up the alert "2nd click". I tested the selector to make sure it was selecting the element properly and it does, or at least it inserted a class without any problems. I want to plot them all on my map, but I want to give condos and houses different marker icons( blue marker for condos, green marker for houses ). Problem I have is - figuring out how to distinguish between types of markers when I $.each() through them.   I am not sure am I doing these correct. I have 3 models, Account, User, and Event. Account contains a group of Users. Each User have its own username and password for login, but they can access the same Account data under the same Account. Events is create by a User, which other Users in the same Account can also read or edit it. I created the following migrations and models. User migration class CreateUsers < ActiveRecord::Migration def self.up create_table :users do |t| t.integer :account_id t.string :username t.string :password t.timestamps end end def self.down drop_table :users end end Account migration class CreateAccounts < ActiveRecord::Migration def self.up create_table :accounts do |t| t.string :name t.timestamps end end def self.down drop_table :accounts end end Event migration class CreateEvents < ActiveRecord::Migration def self.up create_table :events do |t| t.integer :account_id t.integer :user_id t.string :name t.string :location t.timestamps end end def self.down drop_table :events end end Account model class Account < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :users has_many :events end User model class User < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :account end Event model class Event < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :account belongs_to :user end so.... Is this setting correct? Every time when a user create a new account, the system will ask for the user information, e.g. username and password. How can I add them into correct tables?   I have geography pages for two types of business listings. Each page goes from state, county, city, but I need to have the same geography shared between two types of business. My two business types are dentist and chiropractors. I am trying to have a permalink structure like this: enter code here xyz.com/dentist/alabama enter code here xyz.com/dentist/alabama/polk-county/ enter code here xyz.com/chiropractors/alabama/ enter code here xyz.com/chiropractors/alabama/polk-county/ I originally was going to load the geography as pages and subpages, but with that method I cannot get the permalink separated by the type chiropractor and dentist. So now I have created a custom post type one for chiropractor and one for dentist which give me the permalink xyz.com/dentist and xyz.com/chiropractor. My question is now how to handle my category geography page. I was wondering if in wordpress it is possible to create a shell page such as xyz.com/dentist/[state]/ and then through php dynamically build a page for each state? So where it shows [state] it will be replaced with the actual state such as alabama, california etc when that specific page is viewed. But the shell page is just 1 page in the database. If so could someone give me a basic explanation on how to instruct a programmer to do this? Thank you.
