  • ASP.NET MVC 2: HtmlHelpers, foreach?

    This one is new to me... I'm bringing in a Model that represents a list of items. Some items should be rendered as a number of checkboxes and radios. Others will be rendered in a list. Now I know how to foreach the items and spit them out manually... but I'd like to be able to check them against the Model that I have, making sure that at least one optios is selected/chosen. And obviously display the associated validation errors. This is how I am displaying the checkbox items manually: <ul> <% foreach (Corporate.Entities.DesignLayout.Tag tag in Model.DesignOptions.Items) { %> <li><input type="checkbox" /><%: tag.TagName %></li> <% } %> </ul> Two questions arise: 1) How do I check that list of checkboxes against my model? 2) How would I render the tag items with an HtmlHelper SelectList? Example: <%: Html.ListBoxFor(m=>m.DesignOptions, [don't know what I should put here]) %>

  • ASP MVC ViewData from one view to another (Html.Encode())

    Hello all, I have a page with a bunch of labels and checkboxes on it. On this page, the labels need to be easily customizable after the project is deployed. So I made all of the labels in this style: Html.Encode(ViewData["lblText"]) And I added a button on the page called "Edit Button Labels" that will only be seen by admins. When that button is clicked, I would like to load another view that simply contains a table of two columns. One column needs to contain the current labels and the other should have text boxes for the user to enter new labels. Then, once any changes have been made, I need to permanently change the "lblText" for each label on the original page. I have tried passing viewdata and tempdata to the "Edit Button Labels" view using both return view() and return RedirectToAction() with no success. Am I missing something minor or is there a better way to do this?

    I have 10+ SQL Server databases, from where I would use one table from each database to display information using the application that I am creating. For instance, DB1, DB2....DB10. NewDB (Account, Country, Costcenter....etc.). I have started with creating a new database which would contain all the information from all those 10+ databases. However, I am confused in many cases. First of all what process should I follow? Shall I create a table (in new database) with the same structure as the actual data source and insert data from actual data source to new database? Should I be doing this on the DBMS? If so, is it some scripting? (hint expected since very new to this) I am creating a report generation application which has 10+ data sources. I need some hint which way should I proceed? Thanks for advice/help in advance.

  • How do I automatically delete an Excel file after creating it on a server and returning it to the us

    Hello, I am creating an Excel file on a web server, using OleDb to connect the the physical (well as physical as it can be) file and appending records. I am then returning a FilePathResult to the user via MVC, and would like to delete the physical file afterwards due to data protection concerns over the appended records. I have tried using a File.Delete in a Finally clause but I get a File Not Found error which must mean the file has gone when MVC is trying to send the file to the user. I thought about creating the File as a MemoryStream but I think OleDb needs a physical file to connect to so this isn't an option. Any suggestions on how to delete the file after returning it in one operation? Thanks

  • Handling row selection from a simple grid using jquery and asp.net mvc

    Using a simple table and jquery, how would you manually handle selection using jquery? So far, I've managed to add a gridrowselected class on the tr when the click event is called so that I'll know which row is currently selected. But I don't know how to pass the selected data back to the controller (or at least an index I placed on the row).     I'm trying to write my own custom AuthorizationAttribute that uses DI. I'm using the MUNQ IoC provider for it's speed and have decided to use constructor injection on all my classes as opposed to post instatiation property binding (because I prefer it). I'm trying to write a custom IFilterProvider that will use my IoC container to return requests for filters (so that I can map concrete classes using the container). I've come up with the following. public class FilterProvider : IFilterProvider { private readonly IocContainer _container; public FilterProvider(IocContainer container) { _container = container; } public IEnumerable<Filter> GetFilters(ControllerContext controllerContext, ActionDescriptor actionDescriptor) { var x = Enumerable.Union<Object>(_container.ResolveAll<IActionFilter>(), _container.ResolveAll<IAuthorizationFilter>()); foreach (Filter actionFilter in x) yield return new Filter(actionFilter, FilterScope.First, null); } } The above code will fail during the foreach because my objects that implement IAuthorizationFilter are based on FilterAttribute and not Filter My question is, what is the difference between Filter and FilterAttribute? I would have thought that there would have been a common link between them, unless I'm missing something. Another deeper question is, how come there is no IFilterAttributeProvider that would support IEnumerable GetFilters(...) Is there some other way that I should be using to resolve IAuthorizationFilter via my IoC container? Thank you very much for your help. Z

    He, I have this page where i have checkboxes next to every item in a table, and want to allow the user to select some of them and press my delete button.   • In Visual Studio 2010, how do you invoke the "View In Browser" feature on an MVC app?

    In Visual Studio 2010, you can right-click an aspx page in a web forms app, or on the web forms app itself in the solution explorer, and you get "View in Browser" in your context menu. In ASP.NET MVC projects, this item doesn't seem to be available in the context menu. The only way I know to run the app is to set the MVC app as a startup project and hit CTRL+F5. But, if there are two MVC apps in the solution, this doesn't really work. How do you accomplish this for mvc apps?

The route entries: routes.MapRoute( null, "SearchResults", new { controller = "Search", action = "SearchResults", page = 1 } // Defaults ); routes.MapRoute( "Search", "SearchResults/Page{page}", new { controller = "Search", action = "SearchResults" }, new { page = @"\d+" } ); My goal is to have paging links for the search results. The problem is that when I click any page in the paging links, it gives me the search results of an empty serach term. How can I pass the search term parameter which is a string in addition to the page number parameter ? What should I put in the routing ?

  • Issue with storing items in session in MVC

    I have a customer page on which user can enter multiple locations for customer. I am using telerik ajax grid to display locations, and when a new location is added, I am adding it to session and returning back to the grid. Finally, when user submits, customer and all locations using customerid as reference key gets inserted. I am clearing the session, when user enters create/edit page and on successful commit or any exception occurs. Problem is when user adds the locations for one user and then opens another tab, to create another user then all locations get cleared for previous user. Coz of session, this issue is occuring. Something of viewstate would be page specific. But for ajax grid actions, viewdata/viewbag is not working. Any thoughts on how to implement this. Thanks in advance.

    I was wondering what the excepted standard is for handling errors in the Model. Currently I have 'setError' and 'getError' methods that's in use by all my Models. This means I'm only concerned with whether a call to a method in my Model is true or false. If it's false then I would use $this-model-getError() in my Controller. Additionally I'm contemplating setting up a separate file that contains all my errors. One file per model, also wanted to have thoughts on this.
