• Getting a null reference exception exporting a slightly complex rdlc report to excel

  Have an issue in exporting a slightly complex report to excel from an rdlc. Exporting a simple tabular report works fine, but getting a null reference exception with a more complex one. As is usually the case, it works on the server in the development environment, but not in the test environment. The server in the development environment has iis, sql and sql reporting services on it and test only has iis (I didn't set them up). I'm guessing there is something that gets installed with SSRS that is not installed with just the report viewer. The report has several parameters going into it and a few generic lists going in for datasources. Some tables for display as well as a list. Working with the 2005 version. • Perl Scripts Seem to be Caching?

  I'm running a perl script via mod_perl with Apache. I am trying to parse parameters in a restful fashion (aka GET www.domain.com/rest.pl/Object/ID). If I specify the ID like this: GET www.domain.com/rest.pl/Object/1234 I will get object 1234 back as a result as expected. However, if I specify an incorrect hacked url like this GET www.domain.com/rest.pl/Object/123 I will also get back object 1234. I am pretty sure that the issue in this question is happening so I packaged up my method and invoked it from my core script out of the package. Even after that I am still seeing the threads returning seemingly cached data. One of the recommendations in the aforementioned article is to replace my with our. My impression from reading up on our vs my was that our is global and my is local. My assumption is the the local variable gets reinitialized each time. That said, like in my code example below I am resetting the variables each time with new values. • How do I use C# and ADO.NET to query an Oracle table with a spatial column of type SDO_GEOMETRY?

  My development machine is running Windows 7 Enterprise, 64-bit version. I am using Visual Studio 2010 Release Candidate. I am connecting to an Oracle 11g Enterprise server version 11.1.0.7.0. I had a difficult time locating Oracle client software that is made for 64-bit Windows systems and eventually landed here to download what I assume is the proper client connectivity software. I added a reference to "Oracle.DataAccess" which is version 2.111.6.0 (Runtime Version is v2.0.50727). I am targeting .NET CLR version 4.0 since all properties of my VS Solution are defaults and this is 2010 RC. I was then able to write a console application in C# that established connectivity, executed a SELECT statement, and properly returned data when the table in question does NOT contain a spatial column. My problem is that this no longer works when the table I query has a column of type SDO_GEOMETRY in it. Below is the simple console application I am trying to run that reproduces the problem. I don't know if there is some configuration on my machine or the Oracle machine that needs to be done, or if the Oracle client software I have installed is wrong, or old and needs to be updated. • jQuery DataTables server side processing and ASP.Net

  I'm trying to use the server side functionality of the jQuery Datatables plugin with ASP.Net. The ajax request is returning valid JSON, but nothing is showing up in the table. I originally had problems with the data I was sending in the ajax request. I was getting a "Invalid JSON primative" error. I discovered that the data needs to be in a string instead of JSON serialized, as described in this post: http://encosia.com/2008/06/05/3-mistakes-to-avoid-when-using-jquery-with-aspnet-ajax/. I wasn't quite sure how to fix that, so I tried adding this in the ajax request: "data": "{'sEcho': '" + aoData.sEcho + "'}" If the aboves eventually works I'll add the other parameters later. Right now I'm just trying to get something to show up in my table. The returning JSON looks ok and validates, but the sEcho in the post is undefined, and I think thats why no data is being loaded into the table. So, what am I doing wrong? Am I even on the right track or am I being stupid? Does anyone ran into this before or have any suggestions? • Trouble determining proper decoding of a REST response from an ArcGIS REST service using IHttpModule

  First a little background on what I am trying to achieve. I have an application that is utilizing REST services served by ArcGIS Server and IIS7. The REST services return data in one of several different formats. I am requesting a JSON response. I want to be able to modify the response (remove or add parameters) before the response is sent to the client. However, I am having difficulty converting the stream to a string that I can modify. To that end, I have implemented the following code in order to try to inspect the stream. • Accessing Oracle DB through SQL Server using OPENROWSET

  I'm trying to access a large Oracle database through SQL Server using OPENROWSET in client-side Javascript, and not having much luck. Here are the particulars: A SQL Server view that accesses the Oracle database using OPENROWSET works perfectly, so I know I have valid connection string parameters. However, the new requirement is for extremely dynamic Oracle queries that depend on client-side selections, and I haven't been able to get dynamic (or even parameterized) Oracle queries to work from SQL Server views or stored procedures. Client-side access to the SQL Server database works perfectly with dynamic and parameterized queries. I cannot count on clients having any Oracle client software. Therefore, access to the Oracle database has to be through the SQL Server database, using views, stored procedures, or dynamic queries using OPENROWSET. Because the SQL Server database is on a shared server, I'm not allowed to use globally-linked databases. My idea was to define a function that would take my own version of a parameterized Oracle query, make the parameter substitutions, wrap the query in an OPENROWSET, and execute it in SQL Server, returning the resulting recordset. You must access this provider through a linked server. which makes no sense to me. The Microsoft explanation for this error relates to a registry setting (DisallowAdhocAccess). This is set correctly on my PC, but surely this relates to the DB server and not the client PC, and I would expect that the setting there is correct since the view mentioned above works. One alternative that I've tried is to eliminate the enclosing EXEC in the Open statement: rs.Open(e,db); but this generates the same error. I also tried putting the OPENROWSET in a stored procedure. This works perfectly when executed from within SQL Server Management Studio, but fails with the same error message when the stored procedure is called from Javascript. Is what I'm trying to do possible? If so, can you recommend how to fix my code? Or is a completely different approach necessary? Any hints or related information will be welcome. Thanks in advance.

  Hi, I have serious problem with iframe application. I need to use many external JS libraries and other dynamic stuuf so FMBL application can't be done. When I call require_login() I get applicaition installing dialog when app is not already installed, which is ok. But then after authorization application enters an endless redirect loop with parameters like auth_token, installed and so. Yesterday I managed to fix this, but today it's broken again... What the heck is happening with FB? It's driving me crazy to find a sollution, none of ones found on net doesn't seem to be working. I also see the call to the InternalConverter.Convert method, which sees the expected parameters (I see the collection provided by the nested {Binding}) and is successfully able to retrieve the ICollectionView for the incoming collection. The only problem is that FilterInternal never gets called. The template is ultimately being used by a TreeView, if that's relevant. I haven't been able to figure out why the FilterInternal method is not being called and I was hoping somebody might be able to offer some insight.

• Multiple "pages" in GWT with human friendly URLs

  Hi. I'm playing with a GWT/GAE project which will have three different "pages", although it is not really pages in a GWT sense. The top views (one for each page) will have completely different layouts, but some of the widgets will be shared. One of the pages is the main page which is loaded by the default url (http://www.site.com), but the other two needs additional URL information to differentiate the page type. They also need a name parameter, (like http://www.site.com/project/project-name. There are at least two solutions to this that I'm aware of. Use GWT history mechanism and let page type and parameters (such as project name) be part of the history token. Use servlets with url-mapping patterns (like /project/*) The first choice might seem obvious at first, but it has several drawbacks. First, a user should be able to easily remember and type URL directly to a project. It is hard to produce a human friendly URL with history tokens. Second, I'm using gwt-presenter and this approach would mean that we need to support subplaces in one token, which I'd rather avoid. Third, a user will typically stay at one page, so it makes more sense that the page information is part of the "static" URL. Using servlets solves all these problems, but also creates other ones. So my first questions is, what is the best solution here? If I would go for the servlet solution, new questions pop up. It might make sense to split the GWT app into three separate modules, each with an entry point. Each servlet that is mapped to a certain page would then simply forward the request to the GWT module that handles that page. Since a user typically stays at one page, the browser only needs to load the js for that page. Based on what I've read, this solution is not really recommended. I could also stick with one module, but then GWT needs to find out which page it should display. It could either query the server or parse the URL itself. If I stick with one GWT module, I need to keep the page information stored on server side. Naturally I thought about sessions, but I'm not sure if its a good idea to mix page information with user data. A session usually lives between user login and logout, but in this case it would need different behavior. Would it be bad practise to handle this via sessions? The one GWT module + servlet solution also leads to another problem. If a user goes from a project page to the main page, how will GWT know that this has happened? The app will not be reloaded, so it will be treated as a simple state change. It seems rather ineffecient to have to check page info for every state change. Anyone care to guide me out of the foggy darkness that surrounds me? :-)

Anyway, if it works fine from Eclipse with the original parameters, I guess that the values are correct, but the problem is creating the jar. I don't know very much about the possible results or changes when creating a jar. Could the JavaMail libraries someway go wrong when the jar is created? Do you have any ideas?   For some reason for a low-number of users (say 1 in a few hundred) the application seem to crash when run in 64bit mode on a Snow Leopard 10.6.3 I've attached the code, but please remind IT IS NOT A CODE issue. Any suggestions other then running the application in 32 bit only? Please do not dilute the feedback by asking for or blaming the code, the code is 100% solid, guaranteed! No memory leaks, the crashes clearly are triggered in 32 bit mode only just after start inside the AppKit itself like deep inside NSThread sleep's callstack.

• Stored proc running 30% slower through Java versus running directly on database

  Hi All, I'm using Java 1.6, JTDS 1.2.2 (also just tried 1.2.4 to no avail) and SQL Server 2005 to create a CallableStatement to run a stored procedure (with no parameters). I am seeing the Java wrapper running the same stored procedure 30% slower than using SQL Server Management Studio. I've run the MS SQL profiler and there is little difference in I/O between the two processes, so I don't think it's related to query plan caching. The stored proc takes no arguments and returns no data. It uses a server-side cursor to calculate the values that are needed to populate a table. I can't see how the calling a stored proc from Java should add a 30% overhead, surely it's just a pipe to the database that SQL is sent down and then the database executes it....Could the database be giving the Java app a different query plan?? I've posted to both the MSDN forums, and the sourceforge JTDS forums (topic: "stored proc slower in JTDS than direct in DB") I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to why this might be happening? Executing procedure..."); stmt.executeQuery(); sLogger.info("Procedure complete."); I have run sql profiler, and found the following: Java app : CPU: 466,514 Reads: 142,478,387 Writes: 284,078 Duration: 983,796 SSMS : CPU: 466,973 Reads: 142,440,401 Writes: 280,244 Duration: 769,851 (Both with DBCC DROPCLEANBUFFERS run prior to profiling, and both produce the correct number of rows) So my conclusion is that they both execute the same reads and writes, it's just that the way they are doing it is different, what do you guys think? It turns out that the query plans are significantly different for the different clients (the Java client is updating an index during an insert that isn't in the faster SQL client, also, the way it is executing joins is different (nested loops Vs. gather streams, nested loops Vs index scans, argh!)). Quite why this is, I don't know yet (I'll re-post when I do get to the bottom of it) Epilogue I couldn't get this to work properly. I tried homogenising the connection properties (arithabort, ansi_nulls etc) between the Java and Mgmt studio clients. It ended up the two different clients had very similar query/execution plans (but still with different actual plan_ids). I posted a summary of what I found to the MSDN SQL Server forums as I found differing performance not just between a JDBC client and management studio, but also between Microsoft's own command line client, SQLCMD, I also checked some more radical things like network traffic too, or wrapping the stored proc inside another stored proc, just for grins. I have a feeling the problem lies somewhere in the way the cursor was being executed, and it was somehow giving rise to the Java process being suspended, but why a different client should give rise to this different locking/waiting behaviour when nothing else is running and the same execution plan is in operation is a little beyond my skills (I'm no DBA!). As a result, I have decided that 4 days is enough of anyone's time to waste on something like this, so I will grudgingly code around it (if I'm honest, the stored procedure needed re-coding to be more incremental instead of re-calculating all data each week anyway), and chalk this one down to experience. I'll leave the question open, big thanks to everyone who put their hat in the ring, it was all useful, and if anyone comes up with anything further, I'd love to hear some more options...and if anyone finds this post as a result of seeing this behaviour in their own environments, then hopefully there's some pointers here that you can try yourself, and hope fully see further than we did. • HttpWebRequest: How to find a postal code at Canada Post through a WebRequest with x-www-form-enclos

  I'm currently writing some tests so that I may improve my skills with the Internet interaction through Windows Forms. One of those tests is to find a postal code which should be returned by Canada Post website. My default URL setting is set to: http://www.canadapost.ca/cpotools/apps/fpc/personal/findByCity?execution=e4s1 The required form fields are: streetNumber, streetName, city, province The contentType is "application/x-www-form-enclosed" EDIT: Please consider the value "application/x-www-form-encoded" instead of point 3 value as the contentType. (Thanks EricLaw-MSFT!) The result I get is not the result expected. I get the HTML source code of the page where I could manually enter the information to find the postal code, but not the HTML source code with the found postal code. Any idea of what I'm doing wrong? Shall I consider going the XML way? Is it first of all possible to search on Canada Post anonymously? • Web service using Data Dynamics ActiveReports occasionally slows down

  My company is running into a problem with a web service that is written in C#/ASP.Net. The service receives an identity key for data in SQL Server and a path to generate and save a PDF report for this data. In most cases, this web service returns results to the calling web pages very quickly, usually within a few seconds max. However, it seems to occasionally hit a significant slowdown. The web application calling the web service will generate a timeout error when this slowdown occurs. We have checked and the PDF does get created and saved to the server, so it looks like the web service eventually finishes executing. It seems to take about 1 to 2 minutes for processing to have completed. The PDF is generated using ActiveReports from Data Dynamics. Wwhen this problem occurs, making a small change to the web service's config file (ie, adding a blank space to a connection string line) seems to restart the web service and everything is perfectly ok for a period of time afterwards. Other web applications that are running on the same web server do not seem to experience this type of behavior, only this particular web service. I have added the code for the web service below. It is basic calls to 3rd party libraries. We are not able to recreate this problem in test. I am wondering what might be causing this issue?   I am having trouble with XML deserialization. In a nutshell - I have 2 classes: SMSMessage SMSSendingResponse I call an API that takes a bunch of parameters (represented by SMSMessage class) It returns an XML response.   I want to write a module (framework specific), that would wrap and extend Facebook PHP-sdk (https://github.com/facebook/php-sdk/). My problem is - how to organize classes, in a nice way. So getting into details - Facebook PHP-sdk consists of two classes: BaseFacebook - abstract class with all the stuff sdk does Facebook - extends BaseFacebook, and implements parent abstract persistance-related methods with default session usage Now I have some functionality to add: Facebook class substitution, integrated with framework session class shorthand methods, that run api calls, I use mostly (through BaseFacebook::api()), authorization methods, so i don't have to rewrite this logic every time, configuration, sucked up from framework classes, insted of passed as params caching, integrated with framework cache module I know something has gone very wrong, because I have too much inheritance that doesn't look very normal.Wrapping everything in one "complex extension" class also seems too much. I think I should have few working togheter classes - but i get into problems like: if cache class doesn't really extend and override BaseFacebook::api() method - shorthand and authentication classes won't be able to use the caching. Maybe some kind of a pattern would be right in here? How would you organize these classes and their dependencies? It's all very tight coupled - like look how i had to specify 'Facebook_Custom::api' instead of 'parent:api', to avoid api() method loop on Facebook_Cache class extending. Overall mess and ugliness. So again, this works but I'm just asking about patterns / ways of doing this in a cleaner and smarter way.

How can I distinguish in an early procesing stage (like global.asax), if the default parameter has been set because of the default value or mentioned explicit through the URL? (I would prefer a solution where the request URL is not getting parsed). Is there a way to dynamically provide a default-value for a paramter? Something like a hook? Or where can I override the default value (good application event?).   Hello, I'm in an interesting problem.I forgot I'm using 64bit machine & OS and wrote a 32 bit assembly code. I don't know how to write 64 bit code. The problem arises because of differences in system calls & call mechanism in 64-bit OS & 32-bit OS. I don't know why but they changed the system call numbers between 32-bit linux & 64-bit linux. asm/unistd_32.h defines: #define __NR_write 4 #define __NR_exit 1 asm/unistd_64.h defines: #define __NR_write 1 #define __NR_exit 60 Anyway using Macros instead of direct numbers is paid off. In gdb its showing: Program exited with code 01. I don't know how to debug in gdb. using tutorial I tried to debug it and execute instruction by instruction checking registers at each step. its always showing me "program exited with 01".
